Community Round Up

Speculating on the Fantasy Premier League player prices is a time-honoured summer past time that resurfaced this week with a community article launching a value prediction game.

Elsewhere, our scribes also take a look at 2016/17’s Gameweek 1 successes and failures to help us prepare for the new season kick-off, while our hot topic posters are shopping for potential bargains.

Blunderous goalkeepers and penalty box nuisances at set-pieces are the focus of our Members’ tables, while we round off with further good news about out community’s performance in the Euro U21 Fantasy game.

The Community Articles

Achieving a flying start in Fantasy Football can be tough, as my community article looking back at last season’s opening day results highlights. This focuses on the 2016/17 Gameweek 1 Scout Picks to find out to what extent we can rely on fixtures, previous season’s form and the summer friendlies, to hit the ground running.

The Fantasy Premier League game launches come the week of July 10, with the prices eagerly anticipated. Ahead of that revelation, Pundit of Punts has created a player value prediction game to see who in the community can second-guess the FPL price setters.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Some of the most sought-after assets in the FPL player list will be budget assets – both in defence and midfield. Not only do they free up funds for high scoring premium players but they can also be lucrative acquisitions in their own right, as 4.5 priced Etienne Capoue of Watford demonstrated last season with four goals in his opening five fixtures.

We asked who you think will be next season’s budget-friendly midfield gems, while Stephen T joined in the bargain hunting with his discussion on three-way defender rotations.

With four goals in his previous campaign, West Brom defender Craig Dawson looks an enticing early prospect. However, with a likely price tag of 5.0 next season those who prefer an uber cheap defence may be reluctant to invest more, according to hot topic on rearguard spending.

Another popular defender likely to be priced at around the 5.0 mark is Nathan Ake, who has sealed a move from Chelsea back to Bournemouth, where he excelled last season. However, Ludo believes that it is one of his new team-mates who could benefit most from that transfer.

Pep is pondering spending even more on his defence, with likely 6.0 priced players from last season’s premium backlines on his early watchlist.

Meanwhile, Mark asked for your views on unearthing budget strikers, with those at the promoted sides, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Huddersfield Town, likely locations to start hunting.

With 25 goals conceded at home last season, Crystal Palace could offer an immediate reward for those investing in the Terriers’ budget attack when they visit Selhurst Park in Gameweek 1. We asked whether you are backing the Eagles to soar or falter next season as well as advice for their new manager Frank De Boer.

We also canvassed your views on  Everton’s prospects – another side managed by a Dutch manager, Ronald Koeman.

To help assess the possibility of early attacking and defensive returns, Bedknobs and Boomsticks has been dusting down his abacus out to discover who is most likely to find the net and keep clean sheets over the opening five Gameweeks.

Finally, Niemi was on hand to deliver his latest thoughts on the best players to consider transferring in for the next set of fixtures in Norwegian top flight game, Fantasy Eliterserien.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page. We are also still keen to hear from you about how this can be further developed.=

The Members Tables

To add further information to my community article on flying starts, I’ve made a table looking at the underlying attacking statistics of  last season’s opening day heroes.

Mynjdusta has been taking a look at calamitous goalkeepers from last season to find out who was responsible for the most clangers between the posts. In addition, he’s also examined 2016/17’s leaping salmons, who prospered at set-pieces.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Our community’s league in the Fantasy Euro Under 21 FFScout league claimed the top rank, with Krokstad pipping Ryan Seechurn at the league’s summit by just three points.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Well, last season was a good season when I looked back. It was a roller coaster ride, which tested the emotionalstrength of myself. Pretty happy to end it on a great note , last 6-7 gw were brilliant for me.

Two things I learned this season , one is always trust your player . Won't be jumping on bandwagons or getting rid of off form big players. Will stick to them a bit more. Won't take decisions merely on stats but eye test will also be important factor.

Secondly the team selection, I had a lot of points on bench, poor player selection and at times trying to go differential which backfired. Will trust my gut feeling when in a dilemma between X or Y player.

Also one note to myself, to keep in mind since the start that few bad gameweeks doesn't mean that the season's over, should keep being positive and spread it.

    A leaked memo from FFS.

    To: all@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

    Subject: W.G.T.A.

    Hi all,

As you may be aware, we have a couple of young punks trying to take on the mighty FFS. Just to clarify our policy towards who got the assist: NO MERCY. They must be taken out. Let's show them how we take out the trash down in rural Somerset.

    Cheers,

    The J-Man

P.S. There is increasing unrest on the forums about having FPL Virg on the scoutcast. Please notify me immediately if there is even a whiff of an uprising.

Jan Bednarek plays at centre back. Who makes way - Yoshida or Stephens?

Does this mean VVD is on his way?

He is also Pellegrino's first signing, don't forget. The only player at the club he has actually brought in. Everyone else is the other managers signings.

draftfantasyfootball looks attractive and I think british based but pathetic at putting new players on;limited customising options up to now;its a fairly simple platform

fantrax-US based so sometimes gets double game week mixed up;very easy to customise to change scoring and formats of teams so if you have an active manager it is a much better platform

comunio.co.uk-my favourite ,german based I think-sometimes people find it too cryptic to work with-big downfall is points based on sofabase so more opinon rather than statistics all the time.

A quick update on the BPS. It's almost broken me but Mat and I are now close to finalising the first pass - Net Tackles, in particular, has proved tougher than expected.

It isn't helped by the fact that Opta's data for each match updates after FPL is locked down so there inconsistencies in the FPL BPS and perhaps "final BPS". All stats get updated after lock down with passes, tackles and even yellow cards particularly susceptible to some movement it seems. It's been interesting.

Anyway, I'm hopeful we will have the first tables sorted for midweek. Then we can move on to the next set of tasks.

I think it's all about the Baseline BPS - removing goals, assists, clean sheets - when we can track that, compare players, compare players to last season etc - I think it just offers further insight.

There's lots of presumptions on the BPS, some founded on decent research, but I think by throwing the data into our tables and tools, we will be able to assess it more thoroughly.

Yes, we've created a Net Tackles, along with stats that calculate pass completion BPS, CBI BPS etc.

They will all be available for custom tables too and we will add a BPS section to the comparison tool.

I think I'd rather try to calculate points that scrape them. I also like our tables to translate to all games, not just FPL. The BPS values will sit outside our existing tables in their own. So dunno, I'll think about it.

He looks to be a talented player and i think you are right he could very well emerge as a bargain next season.

My worry's are that he does not have a decent striker to feed but if he ever got on set pieces he would be very hard to ignore.

Silva must have a striker in mind, although I just don't see how Deeney will fit - I'd have thought that Silva will go for mobility but maybe not. Maybe it will be all about midfield runners. I certainly think Watford will have more goals in them.

I love these little insights 🙂 i wonder could we conceivably have Pereyra/Stanislas/Phillips all at 5.5 each... Would be a great 3 way midfield rotation to begin with - hoping one or even two emerge as the early season cut price gem & leaves some spare budget to leave for GW2/3 to bring in whoever the on form big hitter/s are elsewhere.

🙂 Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if all 3 of them are priced at 5.5m , apart from maybe Phillips(6m).
We will certainly need a few of these little cut-price gems due to all of the expected price hikes.
        Money will be tight.

Just a quick thought on the whole Lacazette-not-proven myth

I think we, as PL fans, overrate how much skill is necessary to play and succeed in the PL. If Jamie Vardy can destroy the league purely due to sheer pace, it's not that challenging. If Troy Deeney is a consistent goalscorer, it's not that challenging. And most of all, if England is made up of English PL stars, why are they so average in international competition?

Most entertaining league in the world (and my favorite), without a doubt...but let's get over the idea that a striker like Lacazette isnt proven, period.

    1. Lovren an elevator
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 9 months ago

      I feel exactly the same.
Yes, Lacazette is not proven in the PL, and Yes, his international record is poor, but, if he is nailed in the no.9 position for arsenal (which with a record transfer, you'd assume he has to be), playing with all those talented assisters, and not having too many games to cause him fatigue (I can't see him being used in europa?!), then he is going to get plenty of scoring opportunities, and could end up with the odd big return against some of the poorer teams
