Fantasy Premier League 2017/18 Is Now Open

After teasing us with a list of player prices and the revelation of a new Free Hit chip over the last few days, Fantasy Premier League has finally opened for registration ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Launched a week earlier than last year’s July 19 date, we now have 30 days to assemble our 15-man squads before Arsenal and Leicester City get Gameweek 1 underway on Friday August 11.

A quick look at the Player Price list shows that Harry Kane and Alexis Sanchez are the priciest players on offer at £12.5m and £12.0m.

Kane’s average of 7.5 points per match (ppm) was more than any FPL regular last term, while Sanchez – who remains a midfielder – clocked up 6.9 ppm on his way to topping the charts with 264 points.

Last year’s most expensive player, Sergio Aguero drops from £13.0m to £11.5m – the same as Romelu Lukaku – with Manchester City team-mate Gabriel Jesus offering a cheaper alternative at £10.5m.

Meanwhile, City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne is one of just three midfielders priced in double-figures. The Belgian comes in at £10.0m on the back of 21 assists in 2016/17, with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard listed at £10.5m.

As we discovered yesterday, Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is now re-classified as a forward – at £8.5m, he offers a cheaper route into the Reds’ attack than midfield trio Sadio Mane (£9.5m), Philippe Coutinho and Mo Salah (both £9.0m).

At the back, Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso is the most expensive defender in the game – the wing-back comes in at £7.0m after averaging 5.7 ppm in his first season at the Bridge.

As always, we’ll roll out a series of Player Price List articles over the next few days, breaking them down by classification and cost.

In the meantime, enjoy delving in and getting those opening squads built.

Only 1 real captaincy option, downgrade either Ritchie or Carroll and get Jesus/Lacazette up front imo, Lukaku could hurt you with his ownership so maybe you'd want to downgrade both to get him

Can someone explain to me why this fantasy league is so popular?

    1. Horrible scoring system - doesn't take into account SOTS, passes intercepted, tackles won, etc.

    2. Horrible pricing structure - player prices fluctuate based on ownership....not based on how the player actually performs in a game.

    3. Limited transfer policy - one transfer a week. Come on.

Anyone else recommend a better fantasy game out there? Played yahoo's from 2006 until they died in 2015. They had the ultimate format.

My first crack at it is this:

    Begovic, Foster
    Luiz, Cedric, Shaw, Ake, Clark
    Coutinho, Mane, Alli, Can, McArthur
    Lukaku, Lacazette, Rodriguez

Feel free to give me other suggestions. Probably in week 6 will use my wild card to bring in Hazard for one of Coutinho, Mane or Alli (depending on form, underlying stats etc.). Thinking if Van Dijk goes to Liverpool I may swap out one of Ake or Cedric for him obviously would have to rearrange a little. Gayle is an interesting option as well.

6, Downgrade either Jesus or Lacazette to Defoe/Benteke and upgrade one of them or any other changes that come to mind. Fair amount of wiggle room with an extra 2.5m itb

Go with Hunemeier for 4.0 as he played all the second half of the season for Brighton last year after his injury so I'm assuming he'll also be a starter this year. I'd also agree with the guy above. I'd say downgrade Jesus (just due to unknown circumstances between him and Aguero) to Benteke if you want someone a bit more premium or even Rodriguez, Gayle, Deeney, Austin are all good for a bit cheaper and would give you 4-4.5m to strengthen elsewhere

      IMO

We can't rely on Walcott to play. I had him a lot last season and he was very up and down.

Liverpool can't play all their front line with Salah so Coutinho may be benched.

      Defoe won't score 10 goals.

Coutinho is Liverpools best player he's obviously not going to be benched. He's going to play as a CM like he did at the end of the season and recently for Brazil. He was unbelievable in the last couple of games last season in CM. It'll be Mane, Firmino and Salah as front three and then Coutinho in CM with two of Can, Henderson, Lallana, Gini or Keita if we sign him.

I think monreal over Kolasinac as he is cheaper and more likely to start

Kane hasn't scored a Premier league goal in August so maybe downgrade him and get alli or Erikson in your midfield this might be best for short term but long term keep Kane

Thinking more about it. One of Knockhaert and Ince is always at home in each gameweek. So in theory you could go the season with those two, alternating each week.

The question I have is will Ince come straight in and get 80+ minutes each week? This last thing we want is to select someone who comes on as the 87th minute sub.

Why is Rangel so popular? Is it purely because his name is fun and he scored a few goals in 2013?

Look at the Swansea back line more the second half of last season under Clement. Olsson, Mawson, Fernandez, Naughton.

Will he pip Naughton to the right back spot?

Okay then. Trying to ignore your subs.

I'd be concerned about playing Hunemeir every week and would only pick him if he was a better choice than my other defenders in the bench. If they're not playing then you have to pick Hunemier, how many clean sheets and points do you think he'll get this season? The same goes for Foster. You have to play him at City/United/Chelsea away if your sub keeper only plays if Flappyhandski gets dropped, injured or banned.

Turns out I can't ignore your terrible bench.

Thoughts on my first draft, please...

    DDG / Foster
    Trippier / McAuley / Lindelof / Ake / Clark
    Alli / Sane / Couthino / Knockaert / Ritchie
    Lukaku / Gayle / King

I tend to take big transfer point hits (-16 points in not uncommon) in the pursuit of a higher priced team that will be unattainable to those in my league, but I want to have a team this time that I have enough faith in to leave it alone and see what points it can accumulate.

well, I could go with Ihenacho (subject to his transfer to Leicester going through) if I wanted to avoid King having to compete with Defoe, but I still think of King as more of a midfielder but him and Defoe could prove to be a good partnership with assists and goals. If I do this then upgrade Lindelof to Luiz for Chelsea coverage, here's less reliance on Man Utd for clean sheets I'll avoid the possibility of rotation in Man Utd's defence.

I think it's a balanced side with player options that may prove difficult some weeks, but I'd prefer options to bench fodder.

    First draft - please RMT

    Hennessey - (Butland)
    Daniels - Dawson - Lascelles - (Mawson - Fuchs)
Sane - Coutinho - Alli - Davies (Albrighton)
    Iheanacho - Lacazette - Jesus

Subs are based on their first week fixtures and Iheanacho is a speculative shout for as/when he moves to Leicester

Pick Ihean if and when he moves, his price won't change until week one.

You'll feel silly having him if he's only playing in the City cup games or the away Champions League games vs the pot 4 team.

I agree. United have too many defenders and midfielders that aren't Pogba to justify a spot right now.

You know the week you pick Mhiki or Bailly is the week when Mourinho changes his mind on the best team.

true, they have bailly, smalling, jones, rojo (albeit injured), and blind that can all play CB. Plus they have CL games, so rotation wouldn't be a surprise.

I am not sure with Ozil at 9,5. I think there are better and cheaper options in midfield e.x Sane, Coutinho, Mkhitaryan, Pedro. His last season was poor, maybe he will get better with Lacazette up front.

question marks over Sane,Mkhi starting position and already got utd and city cover..got firmino as lpool cover. I'm skeptical over chelsea's attacking threat tbh with their two most influential players in hazard and Costa seemingly ruled out.

Coutinho isn't injury prone at all. He had the big impact injury last season but that was it. Wouldn't expect for him to miss many other than if he gets another impact injury. I'd expect him to play as a CM this season though with Liverpool signing Salah and him finishing the season so superbly in CM. He'll also always be first choice to move back to the front 3 if one of Mane or Salah get injured so that's another bonus. I think he's worth the 9.0.

        - Alli
        - Mane
        - Salah

        - Ozil

Personally I'd probably just about go Mane for now. But it's very tough between the three Liverpool guys. I'd leave Alli as you have Kane and I'm not sure how Tottenham will fare at Wembley tbh. Same with Ozil due to Lacazette. I'd keep an eye on all 3 Liverpool guys as Salah for 9.0 could easily bag 15 goals again like he did for Roma last season if not more. Mane will likely play on the left now though which means he'll cut in on his right a lot more than last season so he could easily get even more goals than last season. Wouldn't be surprised to see him hit 20 to be honest, but all 3 are worth monitoring as is Firmino.

Hi, guys. Hope everyone's doing well? I'd love some thoughts on my first initial draft, if you can spare a minute or two. Opted for a 3-4-3 this year.

My thinking is if Liverpool sign Van Dijk I'll swap Cedric for him with the extra 0.5. If Shaw doesn't play then Ake in for him. Around week 6 I'll use my WC and try and bring Hazard into the team, with Willian will likely being out my team by then. I'll be monitoring Gayle, Austin, Deeney and Rodriguez to see who's the best to drop Benteke down to. However this is very likely to change depending on transfers over the next few weeks, just nice to have a base down. Hoping Keita goes to Liverpool and comes in as a 7 or 7.5 as he'd be straight in my team.

Feedback is more than welcome. Would appreciate a team rating and some advice

I like it. Front line is powerful. My only concerns (and every first week team will have them) is 1) 2X Liverpool with Mane just back from injury, and shape with Saleh in the team i.e. will Coutinho play more of an outfield role and end up making "the pass before the assist" and 2) No City cover.

I realise Coutinho will likely play deeper this season (surprise surprise I'm a Liverpool fan) but when he did that at the end of last season for the final 2 matches he got 2 man of the matches 3 goals and 1 assist and looked even more deadly than when he was at LW. So willing to risk it for the first few weeks and Salah is the same price so that's an easy swap if Salah starts as he means to go on. City I just don't know who to pick tbh? I feel like there's just no nailed on starters. Pep has such a crazy amount of strength in depth I don't who to pick. Feel like City may feature more in my team after I use my WC once we've seen who Pep prefers.

As a Chelsea fan and an FPL player I am scared witless of in form Mane. He is in a league with Sanchez/Kane/Lukaku in terms of 20-30pt week potential when he is flowing. I won't be without him if he looks like he's all the way back from injury. Coutinho surveying from deep and threading passes to Mane given the extra width that Salah should provide..could be a very good year for both Mane and 'Pool.

    RMT Please

    Foster
    Kompany Bertrand Lindelof
    Ramsey Pedro Coutinho Alli
    Lukaku Jesus Deeney

    Bench RLC and 2X4

Plan is to WC after 3 weeks unless. Considering downgrading Ramsey to a 5.5 for Benteke and obviously want to see Lacazette in preseason. Worried about lack of Kane but hoping Newcastle are motivated for home opener and Wembley slow him down at the start.

Unbeatable front line and excellent defense. I like Pedro a lot to start the season. Only concerns B. Silva and Knockaert just due to the fact that they don't have an EPL track record but you had to save money someplace to afford that front line and you'll know a lot more after preseason.
