Scout Notes – Pre Season

Huddersfield Town new boys Steve Mounie and Tom Ince score for the Terriers to boost their CVs for the role of budget options in our Fantasy squads.

Here’s the latest pre-season notes.

Bury 1 Huddersfield Town 3

Club record signing Steve Mounie opened his account for Huddersfield Town as the Premier League new boys came from behind to win their second pre-season encounter.

The Benin international, signed from French side Montpellier, was handed a tap-in by Chris Lowe’s fine cross before goals from fellow new signing Tom Ince and last season’s top scorer Elias Kachunga sealed the deal for the Terriers.

Ince’s strike was his second consecutive goal in pre-season as the midfielder, priced at 6.0 and owned by 2.5% of Fantasy Premier League managers, enjoyed another rise in stock.

Midfielder Kachunga – scorer of 12 goals in the Championship campaign – remains on the radar after his converted spot-kick.

His 6.0 price tag in midfield could prove tempting in light of Huddersfield’s kind opening run (pal, NEW, SOT, wham, LEI, bur). However, he is unlikely to take penalty duties from Australian Aaron Mooy, who missed out on Sunday with his pre-season break extended following participation in the Confederations Cup.

Terriers coach David Wagner employed his standard 4-2-3-1 formation, but the absence of no fewer than nine first-team regulars rather diluted the relevance of the encounter.

Tommy Smith (foot), Jon Gorenc Stankovic (ACL) and Michael Hefele (Achilles) were joined on the sidelines by goalkeeper Joel Coleman (knock), Joe Lolley (groin) and Nahki Wells (ankle).

Mark Hudson, who was on a coaching course, and new signing Mathias Jorgensen, who was attending his sister’s wedding, were also unavailable.

Collin Quaner recovered from a knock to make a second-half appearance and set up Ince’s goal, while left-back Scott Malone drew the foul that led to Kachunga’s penalty conversion.

Huddersfield Town XI to 60 minutes: Lossl; Lowe, Schindler, Cranie, Scannell; Billing, D Williams; Bunn, Palmer, van La Parra; Mounie.

Huddersfield Town XI after 60 minutes: Schofield; Malone, Schindler (Edmonds-Green 75), Cranie (Kane 75), J Williams; Whitehead, Payne (Hogg 75); Ince, Kachunga, Quaner; Depoitre.
Sub Not Used: O’Brien.

A reminder that all the friendly results and key Scout Notes are being captured here, in our Pre-Season Guide.

Anyone see Mendy coming in at 6.0mil? I'm not confident having Kompany in my team tbh

Possible. Tbh, without Kompany, they'll fall apart defensively.

I'd go Kompany and then transfer out when he gets injured. If you have Walker/Mendy you'll probably keep when Kompany dies and get a stream of 2s

But if you have Walker/Mendy you'll get more points. You could simply advocate transferring Walker/Mendy out when Kompany is injured, rather than telling people how they are going to act! You sound like my dad! Haha

Will you even get more though? Kompany's goal threat and baps potential is huge

Happy with this now, any improvements?

    Foster, Fabianski
    Trippier, Lindelof, Yedlin, Simpson, 4m

    Lukaku, Lacazette, Gayle

No, not nailed. Yedlin would be in most teams if he was.

Very nice team indeed. Logic makes sense better value at the back for 6m. Double up on Saints defenders is a good idea due to their fixtures.

A or B guys? I'll sort the defence out, don't worry.

    (A)
    4.5 4.0
    5.0 5.0 4.5 4.5 (4.0)
    Mane Sane Willian (RLC TC)
    Lukaku Aguero Lacazette

    (B)
    4.5 4.0
    5.0 4.5 4.5 (4.5 4.0)
    Eriksen Mane Sane Willian (RLC)
    Lukaku Lacazette Defoe

    (A) has 1m ITB and the first four captains are sorted, but (B) is probably better for team value purposes - Defoe/Willian probably become bandwagons...

You play the sub keeper. If he doesn't play, then their first choice comes in.

If the first choice gets sent off, you dont get the negative points, plus get the reserve's points.

Some people like to rotate keepers some don't that's the difference.

If the first choice keeper gets injured they definitely have the second choice keeper in their team for back up and usually it's saves 0.5

    Another draft, RMT please!

    Foster
    Lindelof / Cedric / Francis
    Alli / Coutinho / Sane / Willian
    Kane / Lacazette / Austin

    Myhill / RLC / Mee / Hunemeier

Austin is subject to change based on his nailed-ness.
I initially had Lukaku and Pedro in, for Lacazette and Willian, but that meant Austin was instead Fletcher. Should I have made these changes?

Ah, well it's pretty similar to my 523, so i have to like it. 2 Bournemouth defenders - I've gone big on Saints there myself.

I would but I'm a .5 off going them to Bertrand or VVD, who's a better option out of Lindelof and one of the Saints..?

Might be worth going Yoshida/Stephens depending on who plays

Saints wing backs have more attacking potential than Lindy.

Last team of the day, what's your thoughts :

    Heaton l Foster
    Lindelof l Trippier l Cedric l Francis l Rosen
    KDB l Coutinho l Zaha l Knockaert l RLC
    Kane l Lacazette l Gayle

Didn't Knockaert just get injured? Or am I imagining that?. Otherwise pretty solid.

They kept clean sheets without him end of the season. If he leaves you'd expect them to get a new defender in. Cedric & Bertrand with those fixtures are great options imo.

    Choose:

    A) Firmino & Redmond/Tadic/6.5m

    B) Defoe & Ramsey

    Appreciate your thoughts!

Anyone looking at Chadli or Phillips @ 6m? Thinking of this...

    Foster (Elliot)
Lindelof • Cedric • Trippier (Yedlin Rangel)
    KDB • Coutinho • Ramsey • Chadli/Phillips (Loftus-Cheek)
    Kane • Lukaku • Gayle

They're the best you can get at 6m... but there isn't much competition in that price bracket

Yeah, with the above it's either KDB+Chadli/Phillips or Alli+Tadic/Redmond (double spurs and no city).

    Hey all!
Thoughts on my current iteration? Feel slightly concerned at having 2 4.5m mids but not really sure what to change.

    Fab---Foster
    Lindelof---Luiz---Monreal---Mee---Dunk
    Alli---Coutinho---Lanzini---RLC---Carroll
    Lukaku---Kane---Gayle

    Much appreciated.

I would downgrade Luiz, as Chelsea don't have the most favourable fixtures early on. Also I would prefer just to play Forster every week, than have 2 rotating 4.5 goal keepers

Yeah, was thinking about removing luiz. Think it's a feasible strategy this year to not have a big ticket defender? (ie. 6m+)

if you are playing 3 at the back, I think 2 5.5 defenders and Cedric is easily enough tbh

Elliot | Carroll, Fletcher, Mee (100.0m)

      B) Foster
      Trippier - Cedric - Bertrand - Ake
      Salah - Loftus-Cheek - De Bruyne
