FPL Draft Is Released

As promised, Fantasy Premier League Draft has been released and is now available.

The new game is free to play and runs in parallel with, and as an addition to, “traditional” FPL. If you’re registered for that game, you can immediately get involved with Draft.

The links don’t end there. The Draft uses the same scoring system as FPL with only one exception – there are no captains or vice captains.

The first step is to create or join a league.

Private leagues can include up to 16 managers, although the game itself states that eight is the recommended number. That is the limit for public leagues – you can enter those with random members of the FPL Draft community.

Like the traditional FPL game, leagues can run in the classic form or in the head-to-head format.

The key selling point of Draft is that, within a league, each 15-man squad is unique. So only one team in each league can own Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku.

The draft system used is described as a “Snake Draft”, where managers take it in turns to select players until a squad is complete over 15 rounds. There is no budget or player prices.

League administrators can set a draft date and time for private leagues, while public league drafts begin 24 hours after the first team joins.

You can build a Watchlist before the draft, and this can act both as a shortlist of players you’re coveting and also a list to govern your automatic picks should you be “away from keyboard”.

Things get really interesting when we start dealing with transfers after the draft is complete. Bear with us on this.

Transfers, or “Transactions”, are made in two ways – managers can make what is called “Waiver Requests” or they can dip into the Free Agent pool.

After the draft, all the remaining players are up for grabs but, initially, only through waivers.

These operate like transfer requests from managers who propose both the player they want and the player being swapped out.

A weekly deadline is set for waivers to take place and, when that is reached, they operate a lot like the draft.

Indeed, before the season starts, managers get their first waiver requests granted in the reverse order of the draft. So if you went last in the draft in Round 1, you will be the first to get your waiver request processed.

However, once you have succeeded with a Waiver, you go to the back of the queue.

Things change when the season starts, with the waivers granted in reverse order of the league table. So if you’re bottom, your waiver will be granted first to give you the best opportunity to strengthen your team.

Players that are free agents become available once all the waiver requests are made. These consist of players remaining in the pool and players that were released by other managers in the previous Gameweek.

Managers can draw from the free agent pool 24 hours before the Gameweek deadline and it’s on a first come, first served basis.

There are no direct trades between managers.

That, I think, provides a summary of how the transfer system works. However, it is somewhat difficult to explain, and further examination of the rules may reveal other mechanics missed or misinterpreted.

Fantasy Premier League have published an FAQ on the Draft game, and the full rule set is available here.

In addition, community writer and experienced draft campaigner Pav A Nice Day has already published two essential articles. His tips for success was followed today with his own draft rankings to help shape your personal Watchlist.

We will certainly be playing FPL Draft this season. Will you? Vote in our poll on the homepage, or via your slide-in menu on mobile, and let us know.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Which team is better?
    Foster (Begovic)
Ake Cedric Mcauley (mee rangel )
    Willian Coutinho Pogba Sane(RLC)
    Kane Lukaku Gayle
    Or
    Foster (Elliot)
    Morgan Lascelles Cedric(Mee Rangel)
    Alli Ritchie Coutinho Pogba (RLC)
    Jesus Lukaku Morata
    Assuming Morata is 10.0m.

Midfield looks a bit thin. Suggest downgrading Firmino to upgrade Ritchie.

Maybe KDB to Sane and Firmino to Gayle
3.5 extra you could do Ritchie to Mane and Carroll to a 5.0

In the league I am creating as posted above, ideally will be sorting out an admin for each seperate league and discussing start date. There is a good argument for starting after the season begins.

I am not convinced with Valencia at 6.5 vs. both Linedelof at 5.5 and Milner 6.5. Valencia produced very little attacking returns last season. And unless the 352 formation is regularly played does he really justify the extra 1.0 over Lindelof or score more in FPL than Milner who is on pens and thus almost guaranteed 5-7 goals along with the bonus points that goal scoring defenders get.

Also Kompany seems to be rather expensive because Man City defensively doesn't look to be improving over last year. That is just no Pep's focus. Their new Goalkeeper has already given away a goal in his first friendly match and Walker isn't exactly going to be the best defensively. And goals from set pieces vary widely from season to season. Just no way to predict them. You can do much better at lower price points than Kompany.

This is how I'm currently shaping up at the moment...

    Formation: 3-4-3

    Foster, Myhill
    Trippier, Cédric, 4.5, 4.5, 4.0
De Bruyne, Willian, Ramsey, Zaha, 4.5
    Kane, Lukaku, Firmino

    Ticklist:
    No deadspots in attack
No players below 7.0 in attack
"Cover" in attack from the top 6 teams (Chelsea, Man City, Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd)
Price structure allows to jump on any "bandwagons" in attack by downgrading De Bruyne, Kane, Lukaku (only exceptions are Sánchez and Hazard)
Starting with Kane means it doesn't require 2 transfers to get him in later

(Bottomed and ignored on previous page)

Seems pretty good. Fairly flexible as well. I am a Liverpool fan and like Firmino but not too sure about his Fantasy prospects. If you downgraded KDB to one of the other City midfield you could upgrade Firmino to Morata or someone similar

One question after the first draft was ” Who has first chance to buy Morata” We figured it was the person who had the last pick. However we are unsure if waivers begin before the season starts. If not then Morata would go to the team who was in last place after round One

so we can have him after GW one?

Like I said in the article if there is an option to change players before the season starts then whoever picked last will be first in thwe Queue to pick him up.

If however the first set of waivers occurs after the season starts then the waiver is decided by league position. So whoever is last after gw1 will have first choice

Is there really any chance Aguero won't start or will get rotated purely due to tactical reasons? Really confused between Aguero (because I think Man City is going to score a lot and he is both at the top and on pens) and other options include Kane which I have the money in the bank for. Sounds crazy not going with Kane but.... please let me know what you think.

There's always a chance he'll be rotated with the options City have.

Not certain to be on pens either.

I don't think we'll have a clear view on City until a few weeks into the season. I guess you could say that about most teams though.

This is the issue, no real solid forward options available for under £7.5m. I can see why some are starting with a higher priced option and then planning to downgrade when the best budget striker becomes apparent.

Would obviously require freeing up funds elsewhere for that here though.

J.Rod could be a worthy candidate for the role, will be looking to get to the world cup and we know he has the potential to do well, if he was at Bournemouth for example, a lot more people would be interested, just have to hope Pulis doesn't stifle him.

A word of warning. Someone on another site ran a big cash league last season and has absconded with all the booty. Didn't affect me but it's a cautionary tale, he was quite well known on that site. Be careful.

Hi, which one is the better team?

    A. 343 Foster, Trippier, Lindelof, Cedric
Alli, KdB, Mkhitaryan, Willian Lukaku, Laca, Gayle
    (Elliot, T Carroll, Rangel, Hunemeier)
    B. 442 Foster, Trippier, Lindelof, Cedric, Walker
    Alli, Sane, Ramsey, Willian
    Lukaku, Kane

And please give reason or suggestions, thx you.

    Foster (Elliott)
    Trippier Dawson Cedric (Lascelles Dunk)
    Eriksen Ozil Tadic Redmond (Lanzini)
    Lukaku Firmino King
    0.5

With southamptons unbelievable fixtures im confident having both tadic and redmond who I believe are underpriced based off the chances they created and the shots on goal they had (particularly Redmond). I like King and Lanzini as they rotate nicely and stats are almost too hard to ignore, Thoughts on the team?

Hmm maybe lukaku who scored 25 goals last year and is playing for a better team. Or i could go with eriksen who scored 8 goals and 20 assists, or mesut ozil who was second in key passes to only fabregas per 90 minutes and now has a quality striker. But who knows i guess you can continue to think that only the cookie cutter teams with the likes of KDB and Kane will succeed (who i had last year). Think outside the box mate.

Haha a bit touchy? Don't post an RMT if you can't take a critique.

If you have the balls to captain Eriksen and Ozil when everyone else will be captaining Kane and Sanchez/Lacazette, fair play, but it is an extremely risky strategy.

The idea of benching and rotating 7.0+ valued players seems like money management, benching serious money each week.

Doubling up on Tadic and Redmond is potentially the stuff of nightmares to me.

But again it's your team so fair play and good luck. It's nice to see different teams.

Anyone remember a preseason like this?

Plenty of people genuinely trying out non 343 formations.

Large selection of premium players being considered. Last year felt as though everyone had Agüero Ibra and Hazard, rather than the plethora we see in RMTs today.

    Should be an exciting GW1.

It's balanced. I have listen to the warnings re pool CL games at start of season so Maybe not Mane now. Also got to consider he is coming back from injury.
He is 100% a season keeper for me once I get him on just not from GW1 if that makes any sense 🙂

Thoughts on this team? Have had a go at going back to the standard 3-4-3..

    Forster - Elliott
    Trippier - Dawson - Cedric - Mee - Lascelles
    Alli - Sane - Coutinho - Willian - Carroll
    Lukaku - Lacazette - J Rod

    1. JustClasie

Very nice, really like your midfield. Only issue is having both J rod and carroll if youre playing the 343 which seems to me as though youre pretty much limiting yourself to a lack of rotation between the two.

      1. GoonerByron
        • 12 Years
        6 years, 9 months ago

Yeah, have no plans to bench J Rod with their opening fixtures.. Maybe even save 0.5 by doing Forster -> Foster or Lascelles to 4.0 so I can easily transfer J Rod -> Gayle or Austin if he doesn't work out or either of those show early good form

    Foster

    Lindelof Trippier Cedric

    Sane Willian Lallana Loftus

    Kane Lukaku Lacazette

    ( Fabianski Mee 4.5 4m)

I have picked Mee to rotate with RLC ( Burnely rotate nicely with palace and have very strong Home games when Palace have tough away games) Obviously will be keeping a look out in pre season on RLC even starting... but this is where i am now... Comments pls?

Very much this. Also you got a get out plan if Willian is not nailed on Hazard return? Sane maybe be nailed but we can't say that for sure so there is some risk there. I am prepared to pay a bit more for KDB and tbh I can't say he is 100% nailed and won't be occasionally rested / rotates.

For those wanting a way into that deadly Liverpool attack with some decent opening fixtures, what are your thoughts on Firmino?

My original impression was that 8.5 looked a decent price but for just 0.5 more you could get Coutinho who had the better ppg last season and keeps the extra point for goals + clean sheets. With Coutinho expected to drop deep and Firmino to be flanked by speedsters Salah and Mane, to me this makes Coutinho somewhat less appealing and Firmino more appealing in the hopes that he can get on the end of cutbacks from counterattacks.

Many are worried about rotation which is fair given Klopp has already warned us about it. In terms of nailed-ness Firmino has no real competition for his position in the Liverpool system, whereas the midfielders have plenty. Also 2 seasons ago he played more minutes amidst the Europa rotation than the other mids.

If swapping from 3-5-2 to 3-4-3, in terms of strengthening the bench and the squad I'd much rather Firmino + TCarroll + the extra 0.5-1.0 cash than a mid + 4.5 fwd.

TLDR: Firmino is more nailed, may benefit more from the Salah signing, and gives a better squad balance than owning a 'pool mid.

Kopp has been praising Sturridge for the condition he's returned to preseason in. I can definitely see him getting more minutes this season. Firmino will still play the majority of minutes but he's far from rotation proof imo.

    2. Albrightondknight

Mane is the pool asset to have imo and well worth the extra 1 mil over Firmino I think. Not for start of season though.

    3. Eze Really?
      • 9 Years
      6 years, 9 months ago

I nice read but I fear Sturridge will benefit more fro the wings. He is a poacher and Coutinho's stock rises if he plays. I do think Coutinho is the most nailed of all Liverpool mids. I am staying away from Firmino. My opinion.

    4. Dutchboy
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 9 months ago

Firmino is not going to score a lot. Salah and Mane are the real goal scoring threats, he's a False 9 after all.
He's likely to drop deep to pull the center backs, allowing Coutinho and co. in the mid to set up Salah or Mane who like to go inside the box..
That's how I see Liverpool attacking next season.
