The Numbers Game – Tottenham Hotspur

Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, we move to focus on one of the key sources of Fantasy talent – Tottenham Hotspur.

We start by analysing their performance on a team level, assessing last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas improvement. Following that, we drill down into the player data, pinpointing the key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on two specific points of interest for Fantasy managers – assessing the Dele Alli versus Christian Eriksen conundrum, while weighing up the allure of Harry Kane as a “fire and forget” captaincy option.

It’s fair to say that Mauricio Pochettino’s side showed their mettle last season after a disastrous end to 2015/16 saw them pick up two points in the final four fixtures and tumble out of the title race.

Spurs improved their points haul from 70 to 86 and also scored far more goals than beforehand – a total of 86 was far superior to 69 in the previous campaign and more than any team in the top-flight.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

It's one of the few pods were the analysis is at a high enough level for serious players. Always cheating are great guys but they are always one step behind the pros. FPL surgery is a good listen but they just reiterate what you already know. You guys talk about stuff I'm not aware of. Like I said, real high level stuff.

Would you downgrade Willian (or another mid) to get rid of Quaner and/or improve the back 4?

    DDG - Elliot
    Trippier - Ake - Yoshida - Mee - (Mariappa)
    KdB - Salah - Alli - Willian - (Carroll)
    Lukaku - Jesus - (Quaner)

no with other forwards fixtures keep willian and play 2 upfront for a while. willian season with haz out for a while

        Good point with Haz.

Trying to find 1M to go with Abraham as my third striker, but i'm not ready to sacrifice my mids, so looks like it's not happenings.

        DDG could possibly become Foster.

Looking ahead, but who is everyone planning to swap Willian for in the £7m range when Hazard is back?

Or will it just be a case of wildcarding?

      Loads of options...depends who's firing.

      Straight swap to Fabregas.

      Maybe Ramsey.

Could be a WHM player...Arnie, Lanzini.

Possibly even cheap down a bit to Stanislas.

      Only time will tell.

Im not happy with the triple Southampton in my squad but struggling to see a better 3rd striker than Austin or 3rd mid at 7.0 or below than Redmond. Here's my team:

    Forster (Elliot)
    Kolasnic Trippier Alonso Daniels (4.0)
    KDB Willian Redmond (Carrol Chalobah)
    Lukaku Kane Austin

0.5 ITB, thoughts on the team and what to do about Austin/Redmond?

    1. Nat89
      • 7 Years

why not downgrade Alonso...at 7 million he will dissapoint alot of fantasy managers this year, Alonso too a 5 or 5.5 then upgrade redmond

In light of the argument against Lacazette that he will struggle to adapt, i've explored how other strikers in the past have fared once they moved to Arsenal - a team that has pushed their strikers to the limit.

    1) Robin Van Persie - Feyenoord

    2003/04 - 6 goals (Feyenoord)
    2004/05 - 10 goals (Arsenal)

As you can see RVP's goals almost doubled in his first season at Arsenal so it isn't far fetched to expect something similar from lacazette and a 40 goal season.

    2) Thierry Henry - Juventus

    1998/99 - 3 goals (Juventus)
    1999/2000 - 17 goals (Arsenal)

Who can forget the mastery and wizardy of this legend. Moving to Arsenal multipled his no. of goals by SIX. unreasonable to expect 140 goals from lacazette this season after his 28 league goals last season but this statistic is particularly telling.

    3) Yaya Sanogo - Auxerre ligue 2

    2012/13 - 10 goals
    2013/14 - 0 goals

This is the only anomaly i could find.

In conclusion, from this 3rd part of a 10 part series i will be writing, i predict 30+ goals for lacazette.

Thanks for popping up so quickly, Mark.

It hovers constantly in view and the animation keeps distracting from what you're reading.

These types of ads should be non intrusive. And they should have a frequency cap.

I work in online marketing and I'm not sure what platform is powering this (doubleclick?), but it is extremely poorly done.

I really don't want to have to go down the road of installing an ad blocker.

I love this site and it is really ruining my enjoyment of FFS.

Think price is scaring people away from Sanchez, its a lot to spend especially when Kane + Lukaku command high ownership and don't have the potential transfer issues hanging over them

I think there are just better options in his price bracket than Lacazette, I'm sure he will be a great option this season too, especially as I doubt he'll be involved in mid week games.
Sanchez aswell...just needs to show he's happy at arsenal and still the same old alexis

Kane, Alli and Trippier. Starting to hover over the transfer button though recently with pre season being as it is.

KDB is the main guy I want right now...

Does anyone see the value in keeping .5 back to offer more flexibility in making a transfer between GW1-2?

For instance, going with Salah instead of Mané and making a saving.

Would love to but that 0.5 makes such a difference at the moment!

Do you reckon either of these strikers are worth a punt?

    Rooney (eve)
    Iheanacho (Leic)

Both have horrible fixtures at the start. Would wait and see imo.

No. Wait until their fixtures ease and decide
