The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 1 – Saturday

A classic knee jerk in the making, Mohamed Salah owners were already fidgeting by half-time at Vicarage Road.

Fresh from four goals in pre-season, he had endured an inauspicious start to life back in the Premier League. A toe-poked skyward effort when through on goal, packaged up with several over miscues and errant first touches totalled a miserable first 45 minutes for Salah.

In contrast, Sadio Mane had sparkled and smartly converted Emre Can’s flick to peg back a plucky first half Watford showing.

Shifted to the left flank by Salah’s arrival, it looked as though Mane had adjusted to already demonstrate that he was back as the go-to guy among the opulence in Liverpool’s attack.

But things were to turn dramatically.

Just through sheer pace and endeavour, Salah first won a penalty via Heurelho Gomes’ clumsy telescopic arms and then sprinted to convert Roberto Firmino’s chipped effort from two yards out.

He ended on 11 points and was quickly installed as the top transfer target from those in action on the day.

He tallied five shots, all in the penalty area and eight touches in the box – more than any other midfielder in Gameweek 1 so far. Just as we expected, the statistics are Salah’s friend and will likely reinforce his case throughout the season.

Mane, who picked up a booking, was left trailing and, on today’s evidence, will clearly have his work cut out to justify his billing as the most expensive option in Jurgen Klopp’s armoury.

Owned by 23.5% to Salah’s 23.3%, that narrow gap is closing as Philippe Coutinho owners bail out, turning to the Egyptian as their replacement.

It is, of course, early days and it’s back at Anfield where Mane has previously been so potent.

Nine of his 13 goals arrived on Merseyside last season and he will have Crystal Palace in his sights for Gameweek 2.

Firmino also deserves our recognition. With Klopp relegating James Milner to his bench, the Brazilian was again on penalty duties and expertly converted following Salah’s tumble.

With the assist to follow, Firmino waltzed his way to the maximum bonus points, already benefiting from his new classification as a forward.

If Milner is to remain out of favour – presumably now discounted as a left-back – then Firmino will surely prosper.

Liverpool won eight penalties last season, with all but one converted by Milner. Firmino scored 11 goals regardless.

We have no reason to expect that Liverpool’s penalty count will regress. Indeed, with Salah adding his pace to Mane’s bursts, there’s every chance it will be maintained or even increased.

The conclusion is that Firmino’s stock is on the rise and that suddenly, Mane is in danger of slipping further down our Liverpool attack pecking order.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Am I just not remembering right or is it way, way, waaaaaaay more knee jerky on here, this year than all the previous years after one (well not even a full one) gameweek?

Fair enough I really must have lost memory syndrome. I just can't at all believe people are willing to take a hit after the first gameweek.

We can expect the players we have picked to all do great in one week. It's crazy.

Always jerky on here but this year I think it has to do with last season's price changes. Frequent price changes the first part of the season before it completely died down after Christmas. Those who didn't do transfers early were left with a horrible team value.

wait until either Newcastle win, Kane/Alli/Eriksen have a haul or Utd lose 1-0 at home today then we'll see Kneejerking!!
Seems like there were nearly 1.5m teams added last week so maybe a lot haven't spent too much time on their teams and will start panicking early.

How many premiums do you have in your team?

    Assuming everyone agrees premiums are:

    Defenders 5.5mil and above
    Mids 8.0mil and above
    Forwards 8.5mil and above

    I have 8. 3 defs, 2 mids and 3 fwds.

          Pretty bad at the moment

On 30 points, with Valencia, Luka(k)u and Kane to play

My thinking of getting 3 7m mids and 1 7m forward was that I was thinking most of the bandwagons would come 7m or under and my aim for the start of the season is to build up the TV

Then again, having none of Salah/Firmino or Mane has cost me this GW

I'm happy with the team I picked. I didn't feel using the extra funds would get me any players I wanted that I don't already own.

It would be a lot easier if this was a forum based site, then you could start threads in the relevant forum and get the information you need.
That is just impossible here and the way it is now, you can't really find the information you need without trawling through articles and hoping it's there somewhere.
Where this isn't forum based you even get people posting the same topic all over the place smh

      1. SADIO SANÉ
        • 8 Years

Articles would be even better as they would be pinned in the relevant forum and they could even be locked so no one replies to them then you would use that particular forum to find whatever information you need.
Imagine, all the RMT's in one place, everything easily accessible and has it's own place and obviously you would have a search feature too which allows you to search both articles AND comments in threads.

I need to get a "gamble turned bad" named Fabregas out. Got .5 itb. Thinking straight swap to Ramsey as no other arsenal cover. Any other suggestions.

Current mid: KDB, jwp Carrol, pogba, *fab

    Thanks

There's no decent 7.5 option. Do KDB to Silva and then Fab to Alli or Erikson or Salah or Mane.

I was really looking forward to playing the FPL draft game, but so far it's been a disappointment.

    - The drafting processes was full of bug's (15 teams in a league with a limit of 8 teams, unresponsive draft button, site locking up etc)

    - League tables are not being updated on a daily basis, like FPL

    - You can't view other players teams, their scores or the waiver/free agent transfers they have made.

    - When you switch between teams in different draft leagues, the points page doesn't switch from one team to the other with logging out of the PL sire first.

IS FPL draft living up to your expectations ?

drafting processes bugs appears to effect different people in different ways at different times, I've entered 5 draft leagues

The first one had the 15 teams in a 8 team league bug.
        The next three went well
The final one was a complete nightmare, some guy's couldn't draft at all, and the only way I could draft was by putting my preferred player at the top of my watchlist and waiting for the time to run out !

I couldn't be bothered doing it, I would give it time though- I'd think of this as the demo year and next year I'm sure it will be improved

It is absolute rubbish, had ten of us try it and it kept freezing and eventually locked up half way through the draft and was non responsive.

        When did you draft?

I think there were issues with the servers because they couldn't test the game fully with the load that it eventually got over the final two days.

Those who made drafts before Wednesday appeared to go ok but after that, it got hairy.

I'll raise these other issues BITM.

That makes sense, the draft I had most of the problems with was at 11am (BST) on Thursday.

the points thing is annoying, you need to switch the team, then refresh the page and the new teams points will come up

Replace Matip, or did Crystal Palace look very bad going forward? Rest of the defense is Bertrand, Stones, Mee and 4.0.

Crystal Palace were decent in 2nd half, especially after RLC moved in a more deeper position. Benteke should've scored if not for a brilliant Lossl save.
Having said that, am not convinced with Crystal defence. Absolute shambolic.
      Keep Matip, for now.

Mounie was very impressive, but Firmino or Vardy might be better if you can afford. (am not aware of Bats price.)

Is Willian > Mooy such a bad idea? Frees up £1.5m, better fixture next week and beyond and looks pretty decent.
