The Big Numbers – Gameweek 1

Time to roll out our first post-Gameweek delve into the 2017/18 members’ data and assess some of the stand-out performers over the opening round of matches.

Tottenham’s top scorer misses chances aplenty as the transfers-out pick up pace. Man City’s front two and Liverpool’s summer signing from Roma arrive for analysis, while Chelsea and Palace’s left wing-backs also make the cut thanks to forward-thinking performances.

why are people picking Mounie over Vokes? Was his performance that good?

Yes. I would like both but only 3 places for forwards make it complicated.

      Great fixtures.

Yes, he also looked good. I know it's a small sample size but he scored well in France and it looked like that may carry over.

But Vokes had a great finish in the premier league, plays for a better team and has some plum home fixtures coming up as well

I personally think it is to do with the romance of the upset that was Hudd vs CPL. Everyone (me too) expected Zaha Tekkers and the CPL defense to have a dream game.

the fixtures argument is only valid if you're playing with 3 attackers every week. based on quality of delivery (from which vokes feeds) and squad premier league experience, vokes is a much stronger pick. and if you only play him when burnley are at home, he's got fantastic fixtures as well.

i think most are picking him because they (like me) have "5th mids" in both their 5th and 4th mid positions, so they need to rotate between a 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 but can't handle 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 in a given GW. but even i've gone with experience scoring PL goals (jrod) over mounie.

Two home games coming up for Huddersfield swayed me. They'll want to start with a bang and will be well up, plus the new signings looked good.

"6 shots on goal, with five efforts inside the box, by XX was more than any forward on both counts.

3 shots on target by West Brom’s summer signing YY was more than any forward."

I don´t get this. How is this possible? Is Shots on Target and Shots on goal different things?

danilo for sure. but maybe next week when you can use the cash from downgrading him (you've got a bit too much spent in defense for my liking) to turn one of your 3 "5th mids" into someone you can actually depend on for points.

    Morning all

Can anyone help by explaining the 'protected' status on injured players? The when and why of it all. Being playing this game long enough now and I think this is something I really should know but hey!

Obviously the Zaha situation brings it to the fore for me despite having hit the confirm transfers button last night to go Mkihi for -4 🙂

    Can anyone enlighten me?

In normal conditions, a player's price would drop if he loses 10% ownership.
In case of a flagged player, it should be 30%.

That was my plan as well but I ended up pulling the trigger to Ramsey.

I was just going to get annoyed having him sit there and lose value, offering you zero points when you could bring in another attacking player on the FT.

Then save the FT next week and have two going into the international break.

because in the next week you can combine his sale with the replacement of another player in your squad that needs changing and you have more flexibility, all without a hit.

i'm assuming waxys' comment was more trolling. the .1 isn't a concern, especially when you have enough in the bank to stretch to 8.1.

what i would say is more of a concern is whether or not mkhi will start this week. herrera is quite a player and mourinho likes to be more conservative on the road. not to mention that martial performed very well when he came on, so there's also competition on the basis of attacking prowess.

assuming pogba and mkhi are going to score similar points whenever they start, i would say that pogba is a slightly safer option.

TBH I'm concerned with his minute which makes me reluctant to do the move last night. Pogba is a great shout, maybe not as explosive as Mkhi but nailed and consistent than him.

        Cheers all.

Yeah, he's one of the main reasons, everybody wants to hear an update on his fitness. It's weird because it's usually 2 days before the match, not 3.

    sort of a technical question.

matic, both last season under conte and in chelsea's premier league title season under mourinho (who is obviously now his manager again), was much more of a points-generator at home.

right now i have loftus-cheek as my 5th mid, but given that CPL is on the same home/away rotation as MUN for the foreseeable future, it's not an ideal pairing (i should have spent this much time analyzing before the season but that ship has sailed).

    my squad is:

    foster/eliot
    kolasinac/mee/cedric/dawson/lejeune
    KDB/pogba/salah/matic/RLC
    kane/lukaku/jrod

i'm thinking that brady would be the ideal partner for matic, with great home/away rotation, but he's 1.0 more than RLC. obviously there's nothing i can do this week, but do you see any way for me to come up with 1.0 out of my squad to fund the transfer? the only obvious thing i see is to downgrade KDB to silva, but that seems a bit risky, despite the GW gone by. kolasinac to a 5.0 defender is the other option, but i really think kola is good value, especially with mustafi and koscielny to return and free him for more attacking raids.

maybe just abandon the idea of having an ideal rotation for matic? at 1 goal 7 assists in his best return, maybe he's not worth accomodating?

    many thanks for thoughts.

          United won't score for fun.

West ham had like 5 injured players.

Matic is a good player.. but not one you design your FPL team on. so would suggest you look to downgrade one of your defense (lejeune) to a 4.0 and upgrade him to a more attacking option (JWP, Brady) - ideally one you wouldnt look to rotate too much - with RLC as your 5th mid on the bench.

but then again this is template speak!

    Help needed..
Have already used FT Zaha } Willian. Thought Willian was rising last night 😐

However I still have Darmian. Move to Jones? Or has he got a chance of playing against Everton?

    Thanks

I want to replace Zaha with a Huddersfield mid. Torn between Mooy and Ince. Which mid would you go for?

Did Fabregas to Ramsey, but am still stuck with Zaha.
Should I do Zaha to Mané & Firmino to Mounié and take the -8 hit?

    I need you guys!

No need to wildcard. And certainly not a -8. Hold on

      Then my team would be

      DDG (Elliot)

Aké - Stephens - Monreal (Long, Rangel)

      KDB - Mané - Ritchie - Ramsey (T. Carrol)

      Mounié - Kane - Lukaku

dont panic & take any -8 hits. What if Firmino scores & Mane doesnt. Dont even take a -4 hit unless u have no other bench players. I removed zaha & put in atsu for ft & now i have 2m itb. Next week i will put firmino for gabbi most probably. This is why u need a decent bench atleast they should be starting players.

Is Ramsey really a better option than Willian to replace Zaha?

    1. Teror
      • 9 Years
      6 years, 8 months ago

He looked really good in pre-season. Scored a goal off the bench. If he stays fit he should be a starter while Willian will be in and out of the team once Hazard is back. I'm going with Ramsey.

Seeing a lot of love for Mooy recently in search of Zaha replacements, can anyone explain why?

He is playing rather deep, he had only 4 goals and 7 assists last season in the Championship with penalties - which he may not have now.

Sure the fixtures are good and he will chip in with the odd assist, but why not JWP or Groß (who is playing as a striker)? Surely much better options.
