Line-up Lessons – Gameweek 2 – Part Two

Both Pep Guardiola and Ronald Koeman rotate, while the Everton boss later switches formations to accommodate new signing Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Debutants shine for Stoke City, Spurs’ tactical flexibility counts for nought as they lose to Chelsea and Rafa Benitez has striker issues at Newcastle United.

Elsewhere, James Ward -Prowse is benched for Southampton, and Swansea City go on the defensive with star names either injured or sold.

Here’s the second part of our in-depth look into the Gameweek 2 teamsheets. Part One is available here.

Everton

Starting XI: Pickford; Keane, Williams (Klaassen 61), Jagielka; Holgate, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Baines, Davies (Sigurdsson 61); Calvert-Lewin, Rooney (Besic 90). Subs not used: Mirallas, Martina, Stekelenburg, Lookman.

  • What we saw: Toffees boss Ronald Koeman kept faith in the 3-5-2 formation for last night’s trip to the Etihad, although it was Dominic Calvert-Lewin who partnered Wayne Rooney in the absence of the injured Sandro Ramirez. The 20-year-old played mainly in front of Rooney, with Everton’s shape shifting to more of a 3-4-2-1 with Tom Davies and Rooney supporting the lone striker. Davies’ start came at the expense of Davy Klaasen, while Mason Holgate operated at right wing-back. The introduction of Klaasen and Gylfi Sigurdsson saw Everton switch to a 4-3-3, with the Iceland international on the left of the front three. Muhamed Besic was brought on for Rooney at the death as the Toffees looked to cling on for a point following the sending off of Morgan Schneiderlin.
  • What we learned: With a trip to Chelsea up next on Sunday, Koeman may well continue with the 3-5-2. But if he looks to hand Sigurdsson a first league start, that could change to a 3-4-2-1, with the former Swansea man stationed perhaps with Rooney behind Calvert-Lewin. Koeman will be without the suspended Schneiderlin, so Davies or Klassen may play slightly deeper in midfield alongside Idrissa Gueye. Ashley Williams was substituted again – perhaps with fitness issues – and looks to have fallen slightly behind Phil Jagielka in the pecking order.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Right wing-back/full-back, attacking midfield, forwards

Manchester City

Starting XI: Ederson; Kompany, Stones (Danilo 65), Otamendi; Fernandinho, Walker,  Sane (B Silva 69); De Bruyne, D Silva; Aguero, Gabriel Jesus (Sterling 46). Subs not used: Bravo, Mangala, Toure, Foden.

  • What we saw: Pep Guardiola stuck with the 3-3-2-2 formation, although he opted for the more attacking Leroy Sane at left wing-back ahead of Danilo. Following Kyle Walker’s sending off, Danilo eventually came one to play at right wing-back, while after initially playing in midfield, Raheem Sterling then moved to the left after Sane was replaced, with fellow substitute Bernardo Silva moving into midfield. Sergio Aguero was the lone striker once Gabriel Jesus was sacrificed at half-time, while Kevin De Bruyne retreated to a deep-lying playmaker role for the second period.
  • What we learned: With Walker suspended for Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth, Guardiola may consider a formation change. In the 3-3-2-2, it’s probable that Danilo would play at right wing-back, meaning Sane could have to continue at left wing-back where he struggled to impress last night. Benjamin Mendy (thigh) remains doubtful for a debut. Fernandinho may also be an option at wing-back, with Yaya Toure taking over his midfield role. Sterling’s goal pushed his claims for a start at the Vitality Stadium, with one of Aguero or Jesus possibly at risk.

Current Status: Slightly Unsettled
Risk Areas: Wing-backs, central midfield, forwards

Newcastle United

Starting XI: Elliot; Manquillo, Lascelles, Mbemba, Clark; Merino, Hayden (Diame 75); Ritchie, Perez (Murphy 80), Atsu; Gayle (Joselu 52). Subs not used: Darlow, Saivet, Aarons, Mitrovic.

  • What we saw: Rafa Benitez was forced to shuffle his pack for the trip to Huddersfield Town due to injuries and the suspension of Jonjo Shelvey, with Jamaal Lascelles, Chancel Mbemba and Mikel Merino earning starts. It was Mbemba who was deployed out of position at left-back in the same 4-2-3-1 formation used in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Dwight Gayle again struggled to make an impression and was hooked off just seven minutes into the second half, replaced by new signing Joselu.
  • What we learned: Having failed to score in their opening two matches, Benitez will likely change some personnel in attack for Saturday’s home match-up with West Ham United. Joselu could replace Gayle as the lone striker, with Jacob Murphy an option in the attacking midfield spots. Paul Dummett and Florian Lejeune look set to remain out, so Benitez will be desperate for DeAndre Yedlin (hamstring) to return. Javier Manquillo would be capable of moving over to the left if the American is available.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Full-backs, flanks, attacking midfield, lone striker

Southampton

Starting XI: Forster; Cedric Soares, Yoshida, Stephens, Bertrand; Davis (Long 80), Romeu, Lemina (Ward-Prowse 65); Tadic, Redmond; Gabbiadini (Austin 80). Subs not used: McCarthy, Boufal, Bednarek, McQueen.

  • What we saw: Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino kept faith in the 4-2-3-1 formation against West Ham United, with the one change seeing Mario Lemina handed his first Premier League start in place of James Ward-Prowse. He joined Oriol Romeu at the base of midfield and Steven Davis moved into the central attacking midfield position. With the score level at 2-2 against the 10-man Hammers, Pellegrino switched to a 4-1-3-2 system, with substitutes Shane Long and Charlie Austin combining in attack, leaving Ward-Prowse to join Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond in the attacking midfield spots.
  • What we learned: While Pellegrino threw men forward late on in order to find a winner, we can expect the Argentinian to stick with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation. The fact Manolo Gabbiadini got off the mark will likely see him continue to keep Austin out of the side, while Ward-Prowse may have to settle for a place on the bench once again, providing Lemina shakes off a gashed shin.

Current Status: Settled
Risk Areas: Central midfield, lone striker

Stoke City

Starting XI: Butland; Zouma, Shawcross, Cameron; Diouf, Allen, Fletcher, Pieters (Martins Indi 89); Shaqiri (Berahino 25), Jese (Sobhi 71); Choupo-Moting. Subs not used: Grant; Johnson, Crouch, Bojan.

  • What we saw: Mark Hughes kept faith in the 3-4-2-1 formation used in the 1-0 defeat to Everton for the home clash against Arsenal, but he decided to handed first Premier League starts to Jese Rodriguez and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in place of Bojan and Saido Berahino. Choupo-Moting started as a central striker, supported by Jese and Xherdan Shaqiri. However, when the latter was forced off with a hamstring problem, Choupo-Moting joined Jese in the support roles, as Berahino lead the attack.
  • What we learned: The front three that completed Saturday’s encounter look likely to get the nod at West Brom, with Shaqiri an early doubt for Sunday’s trip. In fact, the rest of the side, providing Erik Pieters can shake off an ankle injury suffered late on, may stay unchanged. Bruno Martins-Indi will be on standby to cover his fellow countryman with Geoff Cameron perhaps retaining his starting role in central defence.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Left wing-back, central defence, attacking midfield, lone striker

Swansea City

Starting XI: Fabianski; Fernandez, Bartley (Routledge 67), Mawson; Roque (Narsingh 67); Naughton, Fer, Carroll, Olsson; Abraham (McBurnie 82), Ayew. Subs: van der Hoorn, Nordfeldt, Rangel, Fulton.

  • What we saw: Swans head coach Paul Clement switched from the midfield diamond used against Southampton to a 3-1-4-2 formation against Manchester United, with Kyle Bartley starting in central defence. Leon Britton missed out due to a back injury, so Roque Mesa was handed his Premier League debut as the deepest-lying central midfield player. With United holding a 1-0 lead, Clement switched to a more attacking 4-4-2, Luciano Narsingh and Wayne Routledge operating out wide.
  • What we learned: Clement was short of attacking options following the sale of Gylfi Sigurdsson and the injury to Fernando Llorente, so he adopted a cautious approach from the off. But with a trip to Crystal Palace up next, he’s set to switch back to the midfield diamond, with either Leroy Fer or Routledge starting at the tip. Jay Fulton may be an option in central midfield and should Hull City’s Sam Clucas conclude his move over the next day or so; he would also be in the midfield mix. In a back four, it is Bartley who should drop to the bench while, if he’s available, Britton could return at the expense of Mesa. Llorente only looks to have a small chance of being available to feature from the bench.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Central midfield, attacking midfield

Tottenham Hotspur

Starting XI: Lloris, Dier (Son Heung-min 68), Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Trippier (Janssen 90), Wanyama, Dembele, Davies (Sissoko 80), Alli, Eriksen, Kane. Subs not used: Vorm, Wimmer, Winks, Walker-Peters.

  • What we saw: After using a 4-2-3-1 formation in the 2-0 win over Newcastle, Mauricio Pochettino opted for a flexible 3-4-2-1 against Chelsea, with Eric Dier starting in the three-man defence, although he at times moved into midfield to form a 4-3-2-1. Kieran Trippier returned from injury to replace Kyle Walker-Peters, while Moussa Sissoko made way for Victor Wanyama. The Spurs boss switched to a 4-2-3-1 at 1-0 down, introducing Son Heung-min in place of Dier, while Sissoko and Vincent Janssen entered the fray late on as Pochettino threw caution to the wind in pursuit of an equaliser.
  • What we learned: The ability of Dier to play in two positions means that Pochettino will likely continue to move between 3-4-2-1, 4-3-2-1 and 4-2-3-1 formations both before and during matches. In order to break down what may prove to be a stubborn Burnley side on Sunday, Son may push for a start in a 4-2-3-1, with either Dier or Wanyama perhaps dropping to the bench. Trippier suffered a knock late on but will be expected to face his former club. Reports suggest that new signing Davinson Sanchez has “an outside chance” of obtaining his work permit in time to face the Clarets. The versatile Colombian offers an option at both centre-half and right-back for Pochettino.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Right-back/right wing-back, central defenders, central midfield, left wing

Watford

Starting XI: Gomes; Femenía, Prodl, Britos, Holebas; Doucoure, Chalobah (Watson 90); Amrabat (Kabasele 82), Cleverley, Richarlison (Capoue 80); Gray. Subs not used: Pantilimon, Deeney, Hughes, Okaka.

  • What we saw: Marco Silva was forced into making changes to the side that drew 3-3 against Liverpool for the trip to Bournemouth, with Kiko Femenia, Sebastian Prodl and Richarlison replacing the injured trio Daryl Janmaat, Younes Kaboul and Roberto Pereyra. Andre Gray was handed his first Hornets start, taking over from Stefano Okaka as the central striker in the 4-3-3 formation, with Tom Cleverley playing deeper. Silva switched to a three-man defence late on as Watford looked to hold onto their lead, introducing Christian Kabasele.
  • What we learned: Silva’s different use of Cleverley shows how he can easily switch between a 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3. The performances of Femenia, Prodl, Richarlison and Gray provides food for thought, and Silva looks to have plenty of options in attack, with Troy Deeney and Okaka unused substitutes. Changes will surely be kept to a minimum for Saturday’s home fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion. Etienne Capoue is the most likely to break into the reckoning – he is an option in central midfield after scoring as a substitute.

Current Status: Settled
Risk Areas: Central midfield, forwards

West Bromwich Albion

Starting XI: Foster; Nyom, Dawson, Hegazi, Brunt; Barry; Phillips, Livermore, Field (Rondon 85), McClean (Robson-Kanu 63); Rodriguez. Subs not used: Myhill, Chadli, Harper, Leko, Wilson.

  • What we saw: Baggies head coach Tony Pulis stuck with the 4-1-4-1 system used in the 1-0 win over Bournemouth, with Gareth Barry handed his West Brom debut in place of the injured Claudio Yacob. When Hal Robson-Kanu came on just after the hour mark, Jay Rodriguez moved out wide to accommodate the Wales international. The Baggies saw out the match in a 4-4-1 formation, with Salomon Rondon brought on as the lone striker following Robson-Kanu’s dismissal.
  • What we learned: Jonny Evans’ hamstring injury meant the West Brom defence stayed unchanged. The Northern Ireland international is also attracting interest from Manchester City, but if he is available for Sunday’s home fixture against Stoke, Pulis faces a tough decision on who to omit. One of either Nyom or Brunt is perhaps most at risk, although the latter will likely move into midfield, perhaps at the expense of Field or James McClean. Yacob looks unlikely to displace Barry even if he can recover from a hamstring problem. Robson-Kanu will miss the next two league matches due to suspension, so Rondon provides the alternative to Rodriguez in attack.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Defence, central midfield, left wing

West Ham United

Starting XI: Hart; Zabaleta, Ogbonna, Fonte, Cresswell; Noble, Rice (Obiang 76); Antonio (Sakho 68), Ayew (Fernandes 68), Arnautovic; Hernandez. Subs not used: Adrian, Byram, Masuaku.

  • What we saw: Slaven Bilic handed a start to the fit-again Michail Antonio at Southampton, while Aaron Cresswell and youngster Declan Rice also started. The West Ham boss was forced into a late change after Winston Reid suffered a calf injury during the warm-up, so Jose Fonte was drafted in. Antonio started on the right of an attacking midfield trio in the 4-2-3-1 formation. That changed to a 4-2-2-1 following Marko Arnautovic’s sending off, and a 4-3-1-1 once Edimilson Fernandes replaced Ayew, with the substitute playing on the right of a three-man midfield.
  • What we learned: With Arnautovic now suspended for the next two league matches, Bilic will hope Manuel Lanzini (knee) will be available for Saturday’s trip to Newcastle United. Cheikhou Kouyate is also closing on a return from a knee injury and could provide another midfield option, with Pedro Obiang, Fernandes and perhaps Diafra Sakho other options if Bilic considers switching to a 4-4-2. Reid will need to be assessed, but if he is ruled out, the back four may remain unchanged.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, central midfield, left wing, attacking midfield

I consider Kane's price to be irrelevant as when he's fit he's in my team and when he's not he's out.

Not too bothered by a price drop and in fact it would be a good thing.

Fully expect the points to roll in so the less people that have him the better. Plus it will go up again if he goes crazy

I brought him in last night. If he falls I don't mind because I got him in for Jesus who is also falling. I also have a good feeling about him this weekend. He is top of the 'double hat-trick imminent' table 🙂

This. Idk people talking about us having too many options this season but what i see is we have too little tbh. For example in your case, you obviously couldn't find a better replacement than Kane who returned 1 point in each of the two weeks so far. The forwards situation doesn't look great.

Would you do Stones, KDB, Jesus ➡ Trippier, Mkhi, Kane (c) for a -8?

Yes, I know I'm removing City before Bournemouth but the three I'm bringing in also have good fixtures and are probably upgrades. Plus I get to captain Kane.

It's starting to look possible to write Pep's City off completely as fantasy options.

Selection nightmares already and the UCL hasn't even started.

Their only highly owned defender is banned so will be widely sold. That leaves just KDB to worry about. He could easily get a monster haul v Bournemouth, but will that make him a better option than the others available? Likely not. Same with Aguero - 11.5 and never safe to captain.

For some differentials in a run like GW19-22, I can see the value. Otherwise...if Gabriel Jesus scores a hattrick in the woods and nobody is there to own him, does it make a sound?

Impossible to even guess how they will line up next week.

Like you said Kdb didn't impress last night but he could come up with a monster haul next weekend but there is always going to rotation and uncertainity around them.

Most of us were expecting them to be scoring goals but tbh they have less goals than Watford & Huds.

No chance for a hit. Don't think I'm even going to do it this week for free, never mind for a hit. Danilo will likely get another game due to the Walker sending off and he looked threatening when he came on. Get rid next week.

I back city to probably steamroll a poor Bournemouth team this week to punish all the sellers.

Everton played 2 holding mids and got lucky with their goal

last season means nothing, no goals scored against either westbrom or watford says alot. Especially whent they are said to beknow for their attacking football

      I think that's doing Everton a disservice.

Calvert-Lewin was dangerous all night and Holgate's error was the only thing he did wrong.

City don't look like steamrollering anyone unless Pep starts playing to the strengths of what he has: Sterling and Sané in attack driving at defences instead of pass pass pass.

Is Ake to Jones or Trippier worth a hit?

Not sure when I'm going to wildcard but if it's in the next 2-3 Gws I'm not sure if the move is worth a hit.

    Appreciate your thoughts!

Took a hit for Zaha > Mkhi instead of going the easy route of Ramsey. Broke even on the points i would have got and also got .2 value on Mkhi. That and I kept faith in Alonso - who is the best 7 mil midfielder in the game 😉

Rough - I got seven 1 pointers in my team (Ake, Stephens, Bertrand, Ritchie, Salah, Kane & Mounie)

Rough - total score of 80 after two GWs, took a (-4) on Sunday night to then be rewarded with Walker's sending off Monday evening (serves me right for making early transfers), leaving me facing a -8 or possible price drop.

      Smooth - ...Mane(c)?

The only smooth was captaining Lukaku. The roughs...where do I start...On paper I had what I thought was a good team (remarkably similar to the HOFers):

      DDG
      Danilo, Bertrand, Daniels
      KDB, Salah, Willian, Fraser
      Kane, Kak, JRod

Salah benched, Danilo benched, Kane and KDB blanking again, Bournemouth useless, Soton conceding 2 against 10 men.

      I quit.

Dispelling the myth that playing the WC in GW1 is a bad idea.

      Speroni (0), Danilo (1), Jesus (1), KDB (1) out.
      Foster (6), Jones (6), Lukaku (6), Mooy (10) in.

Making a 25pt swing. Also managed to ship out Moreno and TAA for Davies and Zanka which I'm happier with having moving forward. Willian to Xhaka was the only backward step to fund it all I guess but he will become Richarlison or Jese likely this week so no hits needed and very happy with my team now.

      Rough
Playing Ritchie and Elliott and being a Newcastle fan.
Cameos from Knockaert, Salah and Jesus.
      Triple Southampton defence

      Smooth
Eriksen and Lukaku dragged me to a 34pts. It's definitely one of the better weeks to get the inevitable poor score

Only smooth is the haul of Pogba which is the difference between 47 points and 34 points and not captaining Lukaku didn't burn me completely. Decently set up for next week now with a saved FT.

Rough: Not too much to complain considering none of the big hitters really performed. Nothing gained nothing lost kind of a week this...

It's not as simple as that. You can't just swap a midfielder for a defender.

You have to compare a midfielder plus a defender with a different midfielder plus defender, and then look at the combined effect.

For example, would you rather have Alonso plus Willian or Bailly plus Pogba?

Smooth: Iwobi > Mooy. Along with Lowe. Those two Huddersfield players accounted for 40% of my entire gw2 points.

Rough: Captained Kane (again) let down by double City attack (again) and Danilo late cameo and almost scoring was the cherry on the cake.

        Definitely ROUGH this week!

After 74 points in GW1, I was feeling confident and made no transfers but this week had the following...

        - Double Southampton defence
        - Kyle Walker
        - Daniels
        - De Bruyne
        - Salah
        - Willian
        - Jesus

Got 2 transfers but very tempted to wildcard.

Had Zaha injury to deal with but everyone under 7.5 looked like utter rubbish. I couldnt trust Danilo after playing midweek and Mendy nearing fitness so did a Mark and took a hit. Brought in Mikhi and Yoshida and basked in the 15 (-4) point glory.

Rough: 47 points total. Zaha to Ramsey wasn't really worth it. Double Saints defence, and a row of perfect 2s across my midfield. I'd have been better off playing my 4.5m mid rather than my 10.5m Man City striker both weeks so far.

Smooth: Alonso saved my game week. Captain Lukaku worked, and going with Foster has helped (thanks Pulis).

Checked into this site on Saturday morning just as someone shared the credible information - they even linked to a source - that Mane was going to be rested. I'd already jettisoned Cahill so had used my free transfer. Did Mane to Salah. Wasn't confident about Southampton scoring so did Gabbiadini to Vardy too. Imagine my joy at the team news when Mane started and Salah didn't. My 8 point hit returned 3 points whilst the transferred out players scored 15.

I was also convinced Liverpool were going to thrash Palace so benched Hennessey and his tormenting 9 points. That 1-0 scoreline with Mane the sole goalscorer and Hennessey racking up save points was pure tragedy. Was surprised van Aanholt only got booked and not struck by lightning.

Oh and this week's captain was Harry Kane.

29 points scored of which 21 got added to my modest total. Think that's my second lowest GW score ever.

Never trust rumours that appear shortly before the deadline. Some may be true, but many aren't.

The source may have sounded credible, but it wasn't official, so it had to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Mane had merely been rested from a training session following Liverpool's European match, and people started reading too much into it.

Smooth - got Eriksen in for Zaha, good for short & long term.

Rough- King(c), Jesus, Stephens, Elliot. 41 points which is a bit meh. Also a bit sad for Virgin. Ffscout is a brighter place when Virg has a good gameweek.
Smooth- Eriksen, Mane. Biggest smooth is my favorite fpl prospect Jones returning for another gameweek.

Zaha and pva out for mkhi and hegazi for a hit resulted in a 13 point profit and with mane captain and a 15 pointer from bailly left me with a solid 66 -4 for the week.

Are people getting carried away with double and even treble utd attack?
SWA are relegation fodder and WHU played very poorly at OT. Pogba & Mhki won't keep the scoring up to the rate Alli & Eriksen did last season, not even close imo. Mourinho will revert back to type and won't let the horses loose for too long. This is coming from an utd fan!

        Really rough...

28 points, with Lukaku the only one getting above 3. Kane, Kdb, Ramsey, Firmino blanked, Ritchie again did nowt. Had two cleansheets on the cards til late on with Ake and Mee but that went out the window.

Rough; Kane (c) again. Jesus fail.

MCI are just too much of a headache to worry about having cover for. Between the heavy rotation by Pep and their prices its just not worth the headache. Their points are also being shared amongst all the rotated players. Simply not worth it!

What's the opinion on taking hits to avoid missing on price rises on players you want?

            Good questions there:
            1. I can't bring myself to get rid of KDB with BOU up next but yeah I'd be content with no City whatsoever.
            2. I did Willian to Eriksen but yes would much prefer Eriksen to KDB!
            3. No Kane scares me, those two blanks were horrendously unlucky. If I owned him I would captain although Lukaku ownership an issue!
            4. I'm happy with my team so cant see myself wildcarding anytime soon, too valuable a chip, but it's team specific.

          1) Should we avoid Liverpool altogether due to the rotation risk?

          2) Can Pogba perform without Fellaini on the pitch?

          3) What advice would you give to FPL managers who have had a bad gameweek?

          4) Is a bold and aggressive strategy the key to FPL success this season? Or is patience a virtue?

          5) Is there too much knee-jerking going on?

          6) What has gone wrong at Bournemouth?

Following up on Virg's jnee-jerking question:

Are we being too influenced by results (both football scores and FPL scores) when making decision, since thise results don’t tell us much about the potential for the following gameweek.

Case in point: With Kolasinac, Lacazette and even Ramsey leaving quite a few teams this week, are we discounting Arsenal too quickly? Liverpool and Bournemouth aren’t known for parking the bus like Stoke did for 45 minutes, and Ramsey looks keen to add to his tally. Kolasinac should also move to LWB with the expected return of Koscielny, which is great for both the defence and attack. (And Sanchez may return soon?)

At this stage of the season, results can only predict the past. And at any stage of the season, there are so many other factors that make better predictors of the future than do results. Is this all too easy to forget this because we experience results more emotionally than we experience underlying stats and mitigating circumstances? As a community, should we be more consciously aware of how (un)useful scores are for FPL decision-making?

After all, United won’t score 4 every week.

FFScout discussions trend towards the most vocal in the community and availability cascades can take root until overwhelming evidence pushes against them, like having Atsu in your side GW1. Turns out that it was just hot air and his prospects are minimal on account of him being quite average and Newcastle being a rubbish side overall.

Lots of the early wildcarding is because outcome bias is a strong psychological effect and also that when seen as a short term game GW to GW it can look as if you are falling behind and people start to chase the points, using this very short term "form" as their strongest indicator of next GWs potential scores. Choosing Arsenal players is statistically sensible but you cant predict their results easily against mid table sides because every now and again they collapse and get bullied off the park. But they also get robbed by the Ref, as happened against Stoke.

The randomness of football needs to be considered when thinking about why a player is FFpoints scoring badly. Kane has been statistically unlucky not to score where as Lukaku has scored above average for his shots on goal.

Haven't their been articles on here this season addressing these statistical in our decision making?

                  Exactly! Thanks 🙂

Haven't seen any articles on the effect of stats (or anything) on our decision making, but there were a couple pre-season articles about regression, covering last season's data.

There's not much openness to discussion about either imo. That is, decision-making is complex and slightly off-topic, because it's getting into Psychology, so it's generally avoideded. But it really affects our FPL points dramatically for the reasons you an I mentioned, and more. Likewise stats are complicated, but it affects our points if we try to use them without knowing how. Myths about stats aren't just taken from our everyday lives, but actually generated and proliferated on here. I'm no expert, but I do want to impove my FPL game, and open discussion of these topics could lead to an increase in the average FFS community scores! 🙂

It could do. Statistics can be used to prove or disprove pretty much anything depending on the statistics you cite. Therefore its advisable to look at the FF game data with a blank mind devoid of pre-conceptions. I judged Huddersfield as Championship garbage and steered clear. However, stats say that they are organised and do a lot of running, and they have got wins...at least against two sides in disarray. Benteke also missed an open goal from 4 yards against them.

I had a long think about Liverpool the other day and posted regarding Mane/Salah what turned out to be completely accurate but the first comment I received was "shit post" by someone who was confident in Salah. So, I had looked at the stats and performances of Liverpool and remembered back to the Roma games I'd watched last season and thought about how Liverpool actually play and I presume so did they and we came to two different conclusions. But the data for the current Liverpool set up this season is only a few Europa and League games proving my Mane and Liverpool line-up assessment correct so far in the short term.

In contrast, I think Pogba is hype and hair-cuts and is a dodgy midfielder in a positional sense. But his FF stats override his view of him as a footballer and he is in my side because FF is geared towards goals not his positional sense wandering around as he often does. So, that's an example of how my bias against him as a footballer is overridden by the FF game points he is scoring.

Should the stats start to shift in Salah's favour, especially his goals/shots ratio, or away from Pogba as we don't know whether he is capable of scoring 20 goals from midfield yet then I should reassess their viability. Holding on to thinking that goes against the data ends in holding on to fantasy assets when they go through their lean patches while missing those that have hit form.

There is also a some scientific evidence that experts are often less accurate than a bunch of laymen. By looking at the Scout's Team you can see that experts can get it horribly wrong too. However, over the long run they are likely to be score above average.

I don't understand the RMT posts beyond their desire for a bit of extra information regarding a certain player. How is the opinion of one other, often random, person a good basis for augmenting your own choice? After all, they will be subject to the same cognitive biases that you yourself will be, but you don't know to which ones they are most susceptible to.

Pretty much agree with all you said, besides that the scoutpicks are done by experts haha

If the scoutpickers were experts in sports analytics, stats and the like, I don't see why they wouldn't be sharing those skills with us.

This site gives us great tools, but after that you're pretty much on your own, because much of the analysis is half-cocked, by the community as much as anyone else.

I'd say the scoutpickers were laymen like us, but with a a lot more experience than me at playing and thinking about FPL.

I think we're veering off-topic haha. The point is that people value stats here, but also tell you that they should be taken in context and which a pinch of salt etc. But stats can be powerful if you know how to unlock their potential, and many people are looking at the wrong things entirely when making their decisions using the members area or the FPL points tables etc. They should be taken with a pinch of salt if used correctly, but they shouldn't be taken at all they way some people are using them! Some guidance in this regard would be extremely useful for the users of FFS in my opinion.

Too Mane Men's HT also questions our desision-making skills by the way http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2017/08/22/market-forces-gameweek-2/?hc_page=1#hc_comment_16282019

In defense of early wildcard, there are two factors that might make early wildcard more feasible than any other time: the transfer window closing and the ability of projections to become sufficiently accurate. The obvious benefits of the transfer window closing are that we know which players are safe from rotation and will stay in the premier league. Additionally, the player performance projections become accurate enough at this point. This blog (http://11tegen11.net/2015/01/05/the-best-predictor-for-future-performance-is-expected-goals/) shows how xG becomes sufficiently accurate by gameweek 5 to be able to make decisions on which teams and players should perform well this season. I plan to also use FFFix projections at that point as well to make my decisions. While people use the specious argument that veterans have used the early WC to their success, there are underlying reasons that it might be the best time to use it. Later, if your team is good even after you look at the projections, you can wildcard later.

With so many people playing the WC or taking hits, how valuable is having the patience to save 2FTs for the break, is it worth missing a couple of price rises and potentially a few points to be able to sit back next week with 3GWs of data to back up 2 or 3 transfers?

Following on from Deulofail's post, is now in fact the PERFECT time to be spending points to keep up with price rises and avoid price drops whilst a) bringing in form players b) shipping out duffers and c) keeping the WC intact for later.....possibly 2nd Int Break?

TV is always hugely important later in the season and I'm going to spend points at some stage so why not now?

In GW1 I did -4 and it turned out points neutral but I avoided a 0.1 drop with Zaha and gained 0.2 with Nikki.

GW2 I'm on -8 so far but should gain price on Moot and Silva whilst possibly avoiding drops on Jesus and KDB. Also enables Kane so will have to see if it turns out points neutral at least....

I have don't his to change a couple of players and get in Hegazi and Pogba. Unfortunately I accidentally selected Martial... and then decided to get Pogba and his price rise through the Wild Card that I was aiming to save for later. But since my vision of wildcarding to great success later was based on nothing but wishful thinking (another psychological trap to look out for) I decided I may as well do it now and re-model my side a little bit and incorporate some mid-value rotation players and have a look at those who have come back from injury this week.

                  The highlight for me is

"Having the data and the analytics behind it is always useful as long as you can wrap adequate amount of context around it. I don't use data or stats to make decisions for me ... I use them to augment my decision making process. Often stats get a bad rap about being misleading, but it's only misleading if you let it. An adequate amount of skepticism is at a premium in this industry."

It's a good summary. The bit I'm getting at with the above posts is the " I use them to augment my decision making process". Many here seem to be making decisions for bad reasons, stats-orientated or otherwise, and a discussion about how to use them to augment our decision-making is key to using them for beginners, and useful for everyone (I just think that much should be obvious).

Are Lukaku's points from GW1-2 a good predictor of his points in GW 3 or 4?

Is the points difference between Lukaku and Kane so far a good predictor of the likely points difference in GW 3 and 4?

These are questions that are tackled weakly and weekly with people pointing out the flawed logic, yet the language used often clashes with how people talk in other discussions about form, when they will people to 'ride the waves' etc.

And the whole thing repeats and repeats due to the nature of the comments section. The reddit link is a good example of a platform that has stood the test of time, and I will refer to it again.

But for this community to thrive and satisfy people, I think we could do a better job of integrating this info and, at a minimum, opening up the discussion. There's no one way to do something, but there are methods for making decisions that are demonstrably better than others. And giving people that power to make good decisions by themselves should automatically put out the mythical fires that burn on every comment page of the site.

                  🙂

My fire metaphor broke down. I mean the myths in this place are ever-burning fires that can be fought by 'empowering' users to make better decisions.

FFS is probably losing the vast edge it had over other resourses in the past, and the average user is doing worse than they used to I think. As the site becomes more popular for casual users, the deep thought and discussion gets watered down too.

The stats are great, but there are stats and other sources of info everywhere (including FPL twitter). So I think the new edge could be built around genuinely improving our managerial skills.

As always, the new filters should hopefully make an impact along the lines I've been rambling about.

First try and find the games that Carroll played and see who was dropped when he came in to the team. This will give you an idea of how the formation would change with him fit.

Hernandez has been bought because none of their players have his skills set as a close range striker. So It's highly unlikely Bilic would ever sub his man goal threat, especially if he is bringing on Carroll who will provide the flick-ons that Hernandez would thrive on.

Hernandez seems like a nice happy-go-lucky type of person so will probably not confront Mark "Mr West Ham" Noble over spot kick duties. If Noble misses a few them he might get them as the striker.

In relation to this, how much more than 4.5 do you now have to spend to find a mid that is better value than a 4.5 mid?

Before GW1, I argued that RLC and Carroll were better value than 5.0 mids at least, and could potentially prove themselves to be worth 5.5 or 6.0, and that Chalobah and Cork were worth monitoring too. Now that the season has started, all 4 mids seem to be nailed with (albeit limited) attacking threat. Is it a good strategy to play one or even two of them some weeks, or perhaps rotate them for one or two spots, given the precious funds they release?

You could even rotate one, say Carroll, with Jese nicely till GW13.

BALL IN PLAY - are we missing a valuable stat here? And does anyone know where it can be found

We all have a good idea which teams produce the low-priced defensive assets and typically it's about how defensive that team is, and in some cases how attacking their defenders are (Albion)

But those 'ball in play' stats issued today by the BBC indicate a usable measure of this 'defensiveness'. Basically the stat was used to demonstrate how much footy fans are getting for their money and the range from best to worst is approx 20 mins. Twenty minutes!

Clearly a tactic of reducing 'ball in play' makes it easier to get defensive points and harder to get attacking points. This is a stat i've not seen anyone use when trying to assess potential. It's key isn't it, because it's misleading if you believe your striker plays 90 minutes when i n reality he plays 45, 18 minutes fewer than another striker player 63.. And likewise, you absolutely want your defenders having the defend as few a minutes as possible

"the two events which result in the greatest loss of time: ball outs and fouls"

So the least amount of minutes comes from bad tempered games, officials that don't let games flow, and teams that are constantly hoofing the ball about and out for throws and corners.

But since free kicks around the box and corners are sources of attempts on goal you need a team that are disciplined enough not to foul the opposition in the final third, but rather break them down in midfield. Yakob does this very well for West Brom while strikers like Costa fouled opponent defenders high up the pitch which stops the game far away from the Chelsea goal.

I saw it suggested somewhere that games should be reduced to 30 minutes per half, but that the timing should be paused every time there is a break in play (including throw-ins, goal kicks, corners, free kicks, cards, injuries and substitutions - and perhaps also when the goalkeeper keeps hold of the ball before clearing it) and not started again till the ball is kicked or thrown again after the stoppage.

I believe they do something similar in rugby league, displaying the elapsed time on a clock visible to the crowd, and sounding a hooter when time is up.

This game is a hundred years old. Why change anything like that?

It would be much simpler to get the Referees to speed up players who are labouring over 'out-of-play' events.

I watched a game where the Tamworth 'keeper time wasted before a goal kick by stretching his calf muscles out using the goal post. That was in the first 20 minutes lol. So refs need to just be stronger in enforcing a hurry-up. And also actually acknowledge the flow of the game when players are faking their injuries and walking to pick up the ball for throws etc.

Things like that are subjective though, and that's where a lot of the controversy comes from.

Sports seem to be moving towards a more objective approach, as much as possible, to match values of a more scientifically literate, equal society as its audience.

Although many people welcome the controversy, I feel it's contrived when we already have solutions to problems but purposefully ignore them, in favour of upholding an unfair system that CREATES variance, and that makes the excitement somewhat articficial. Again, however, people do say ;that's why we love the game' etc.

We can look down on Mourinho teams for sometimes time-wasting from the first minute, for example, but we can't stop that in the current system without creating controversy and being unfair to his team or another.

I'm open to other solutions, but I wouldn't shut down the 30-minute halves idea just because of tradition, even if we do allow tradition to factor slightly into the equation.

According to Triggerlips, the number of price rises in the first game-week was exactly the same as in the previous two seasons.

There is no evidence yet of prices being less volatile this season.

There are always fewer price rises in the first game-week than in later game-weeks, because all counts start from zero.

Richarlison vs Jese in the battle of the 6.0m midfielders.

Is it too early to bring one or both in and of the two who do we think is the best medium to long term option based on the limited knowledge we have so far?

Richarlison has great stats and a good price at 6m.

As with other young players that are new to the league, what do you look for to bring someone like him in?

          2) Are we holding on to KDB & Kane for 1 more week?

          1) I don’t think anyone would question KDB to Eriksen being a sound transfer given current form. But would you do it for a -4?

          2) This leads on to the more important question of when to WC.

Are you more inclined to WC now if you would be losing say .5/.6 on players in your current squad, or are you more inclined to WC when there is a fixture switch? (not too many clear ones to me, other than Everton’s bad run after first 6). The lost revenue could have an impact on your entire season, so just take the plunge already?

Or might it actually be wise to double up on Spurs defence if Rose isn’t back soon?

At 5.4-5.6 they are possibly the best value defenders in the game, whereas Eriksen, Alli and Kane have competition from other premium options in their positions.

If wildcarding next week, why not do it this week? Players I want are rising and players I'm unsure of keeping are dropping. Is it worth losing out on around £0.6 in team value just to wait one more week?

            To explain my thinking...

I have 2/3 players likely to drop by 0.1 each this week and 2/3 players I want may increase by 0.1. I'm even considering wildcarding to take a dropping player out then buy him back for 0.1 cheaper if I really do still want to own him (Kane for example).

            I'm a sucker for team value 🙂

The problem is that your theory relies on the players you want scoring points again this week.

no way, don't think Maureen trusts him enough for him to cement a starting position, Mkhi, Rashford, Mata & Lingard in competition, only 3 of the 5 (possibly only 2 if Pogba gets pushed farther forward) can start with Mkhi the only one looking anyway nailed tbh.

          1) KDB scored against Bournemouth both the times they played last season. On both occasions City won 4-0. Worth giving KDB another week?

          2) If Kane blanks against Burnley are we keeping him through the international break and taking 0.3 drop?

          3) When Sanchez and Hazard return is it best to go 3-5-2 ?

My questions is what to do with Salah and KDB? I need to do something with this 2, KDB doing nothing and Kloop rotations, to much money and not much return, so might be better upgrading Abraham or someone in defence as i have Alexander - Arnold too. Thanks

I like many am thinking of using my WC during int break. But i noticed that week later, we have a game on friday night. So i am thinking of using my WC week after int break because :

          1. Many WC will be used during int break so price changes will be slower than usual
          2. Since most price changes are happening on friday evening, using my WC in a GW where there is a game on friday night will give me oportunity to capture price raises from 2 friday nights.

          Any thoughts of this strategy?

Should there be more hot topics on FFS? As we wait for the exciting new changes to the comment section to be implemented, would it be agreeable to assign more comments the coveted Hot Topic status? As the pages fly by, it is annoying to see the same questions over and over again, and as a contributor I want to be able to answer those questions, and find answers myself. Even if the topic is simply ‘Kolasinac: In or out?’, I feel that these repeated questions constitute hot topics by definition.

Along a similar vein, would it be a good idea to encourage people to use the upvote buttons more liberally. This could be another short (and long-term) fix, since upvotes are currently used mostly to ‘like’ jokes and to add weight to one side of a debate/argument. This is fine, but for the current ‘rating’ filter to be effective, it would be great if we, as a community, could recognise any comment/reply that has been said in earnest, however short, where the commenter has clearly put a little thought into it, rather than reserving our upvotes for the big essays (which naturally get a lot of votes anyway). That way the filter will find a lot more useful contributions than it currently does to counterbalance the jokes and arguments (which can also be great of course!). I think the Scoutcast is a good platform to encourage this, even if it’s only mentioned briefly.

We're working on HC on Mat's return and, once we've done some optimisation, I'd hope that the first set of changes will be quite quick. Certainly, we'd get them on test and invite some users over to help test them out. The general strategy would be to make more of voting as you suggest as a method of users filtering comments.

Cool. I suggested making more use of upvotes due to recent upset about certain posters getting the limelight, but if the changes are coming really soon, then that's the best solution of all. Cheers for the reply Mark.

Perhaps if you mention this in the Scoutcast it could quell some rising concerns form a fair portion of community members. Just a thought

Is there any solution to FFS site’s technical issues? The last 3 days have been very slow for me. Some posts literally take 30-60 seconds to post. Other times pages load unformatted, or you can’t connect to the site. I’ve also gotten a lot of 503 errors, and it can be quite frustrating when you’re trying to be the first to make a funny reply to someone’s comment 😉

Not everyone has the problem(s), but it seems there are plenty of people experiencing the same problems, including the unformatted screen and excruciatingly slow load times.

A lot is talked about form vs fixtures. But what do you lot think actually constitutes form?

Is it scoring or assisting in games consistently?
Or is it based more on a players in game performance? Nice first, touch, sharpness, shots on target and generally good play ?

I raise this because someone said if Ritchie had scored on Sunday he would have had the same 'form' as Jese, who I want to bring in. Where as for me Jese has much better 'form' because of his performance on Saturday including his first touch, shots and general play, and a goal to top it.

Ultimately, what do we think indicates an inform player?

          Thanks

Is Blind the Man utd defender of choice? Gets a lot of BPS points plus on corners and some set pieces. (Man utd a very tall team)

Is it more important to avoid price drops this season then chase price rises?
Up) Gk 0, DEF 3, MID 7, FOR 4 total 14 players that have gone up in value, 2 players a double rise.
Down) GK 1, DEF 14, MID 32, FOR 21 total 68 players that have dropped in value, 4 players that have had a double drop.
Players prices don't seem to be raising as quick as last season.

Why are comments deleted so willy nilly?

Hi, the point of this HT is to ask questions for us on the scoutcast - we use this to compile the scoutcast notes so do go and tidy up comments to help us find the scoutcast questions during the day.

There's lots here about site issues etc as well which is great to get but not really appropriate for this HT.

I'll make that clearer next week - while it's good to have wider discussions perhaps we need to set up separate HT for those.

Nothing personal just trying to keep this HT to its original purpose. 🙂

Hey Jonty. I was trying to be helpful by linking the GS456's post to the questions at the top of the article, but My Name is Prince took exception to that.

It's disconcerting to find that you would seemingly back the guy who wants people to stop taking FPL seriously, and 'clean up' my light-hearted defence of my (quite considerable) effort to contribute to the Scoutcast today.

I just posted 1 thing about technical issues (because the only reply I've had from a mod is TM saying that it's fine for him). And I posted 1 thing about the FFS site for the same reason, which is that under the current system, there's little guarantee these things will be seen or taken into account unless posted where you will see it. At least until the changes happen. Besides, as I said, I thought it would be useful to bring up briefly in the Scoutcast. If you disagree, fair enough.

Aside from those 2 things (only 2 things!), I've asked very thoughtful questions. One of my questions was asked by someone later in the day, and it became a hot topic. They're very relevant discussion ponts for the Scoutcast. I never intended to start the discussions here, if you're refering to the replies I received and raplied to myself. I'm sorry, but it's quite a kick in the bollocks when you spend your free time trying to add to the community and you get shot down like this.

It really isn't clear that you don't accept my kind of questions, and it really isn't clear why. I had all these questions earlier, and even edited them to tried to fit them with questions along a similar theme. This is very disappoining.

'Cleaning up' is a source of much aggovation in the comments section from what I'm seeing. It's hard not to take it personally, because you're reading the words that somebody's written and decided you, and everyone, shouldn't look at them anymore.

I'm sorry I may have given you more work to do with the essays, and linking to RedArrows' question. I shaln't reply to people on this HT next week, but it's hard to accept that my questions won't make good discussions, though I appreciate it would be easier to to have just a few small questions so the Scouts can talk about it as they like, without too much insight from the community all in one place! haha

                  Have fun on the cast

          Scoutcast questions:
Is it a risk captaining Kane over Lukaku if you have both?

Are people getting carried away with double and even treble utd attack?
SWA are relegation fodder and WHU played very poorly at OT. Pogba & Mhki won't keep the scoring up to the rate Alli & Eriksen did last season, not even close imo. Mourinho will revert back to type and won't let the horses loose for too long. This is coming from an utd fan!

Im keen to bring Kane in while others are keen to take him out but with Man City assets questionable at this stage, if you have Lacazette, Gabriel Jesus and KDB, which one of Lacazette and Gabriel Jesus do you transfer out for Kane?(Free)

I'm relatively new here. I've noticed a lot of people on FFS favour certain players for reasons beyond their form, fixtures or statistics. It may be that a certain player helped them win a mini-league, or was a key differential for them. On the flip side (which is more interesting!) many have players that they will never touch because they have been seriously let down by them despite all the signs suggesting otherwise.

Last year for me it was Alonso (saviour), and Redmond (complete troll).

I'd be interested to hear who yours are and why!

Few things that have been whirring round my mind:

          • Cheap midfield rotation - thoughts on this as a viable tactic? With so many heavy hitters firing, it looks to me that opting for a pair of 4.5M midfielders (such as Carroll and RLC) could be the key to unlocking the funds required to fit in all the players you want elsewhere. Both players mentioned have looked capable of scoring well and have been unlucky not to have registered some points thus far; is their 4.5M price tag putting people off starting them? What's more, rotating a pair of cheap midfielders also means you can opt for different rotations, for example, 4-3-3, if you prefer a defender one week over both.

          • Opinions on coverage - this is something which is mentioned so much. I always seem to find myself wanting to have a player 'covered' from each of the top sides, but as we all know this is poor logic and essentially just preference so you can feel comfortable when said team has a juicy fixture. Should we just pick who we think will score well even if it means foregoing some teams altogether?

          • City conundrum - most of us started with KDB and didn't really consider going without an attacker from the Manchester club, with Jesus and Aguero also popular options. Lots of people are dropping their City assets to get in players who are already firing. Following on from the previous topic, how dangerous is it to go without any City 'coverage'? Should we stick with our initial plan and keep KDB and his premium price tag, or should we avoid them altogether until they show more form, and we have a better idea of how the points will be shared?

          • Alonso or Alonsno - after an impressive display last season, Alonso proved his worth again this week. There have been a lot of different opinions on whether or not he is worth his price tag, and I remember Granville making a comparison in pre season comparing him to Willian and asking why so many had opted for the latter over the Spaniard. Putting his past off the pitch antics aside, is it worth caving and sticking him in for the long haul, or does he pose a threat from a potential LB/LWB signing at Chelsea? How tempted would you be to downgrade him every time you were in need of funds?

          • Coutinho at Liverpool - it looks almost certain that Coutinho will stay at Liverpool now, after the club held out and Barcelona have stopped their persuit of the player. Coutinho and his representivites have also said they want to make amends with the club. A sub 9.0 price for the most popular Liverpool asset in pre season could be something to shake up the ever forming template. How will he perform though - will his head be in the right place, and will be physically be in the right place (given he may play in a deeper role).

          • Pogba or Mhkitaryan - a question on everyone's minds at the minute. Pogba switches on in the late stages of the game, especially with Martial on the field. However, can we rely on this for the long haul, or will be play deep for the majority of the season? After watching the game, many noted that Pogba actually looked more threatening than Mhkitaryan for the majority. How much of a rotation risk is the Armenian, and is Martial one to watch?

          • Hazard and Sanchez - both have imminent arrivals back into their respective squads, and potentially our teams? If they start firing in their typical fashion, how are we going to fit them in? Do we need a contingency plan or just play stubborn and hope they don't punish us too much?

For Scoutcast, but honestly would be surprised if discussed:
          - With some posters persistently spamming the comments with troll-like attitudes quite a few regular posters are dropping off. I know of at least 2 long term users who log on, see a specific user is doing their usual, and log off again as it's becoming horrendous here at times. My question - anything likely to be done about this? Rumblings of a mute button, or blocking individual users from your feed have been around for ever but nothing happening. Due to this, coupled with a few offensive comments recently, membership and contribution is being affected negatively.

What can you tell us about the price change mechanism?

Many people are new to FPL and/or FPL, and don't know how the price changes work in general. I am sure you lot know a lot more than me about how it operates too.

Basic questions include: is it proportional? Do players with low ownership rise and fall quicker than players with high ownership? Do fall quicker than they rise?

More complex questions include: What changes seem to have been made this season? Is there any manual intervention?

The latter question is one that Ruth_NZ has voiced his disapporoval of/suspicions about at least a couple times recently, as seen here, for example: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2017/08/21/scout-notes-gameweek-2-monday-4/?hc_page=39#hc_comment_16278990

Okay so I've been using FFS for a few years now and for some reason I've never had an account/posted a comment - so here goes!

          Pogba or Mkhitaryan?

As a United fan I'm concerned Mkhi may be rotated once UCL commences, but will he outscore Pogba sufficiently to outweigh his increased rotation risk? Could he have an Ozil 15/16-like season where he lays assist upon assist and racks up a decent share of the BPS as he currently appears to be threatening to do?

And is Pogba flattering to deceive, with his explosive hauls so far only coming late in the game once Martial and Fellaini enter the field? Surely he's playing too deep to justify being picked over an advanced playmaker of the ilk of Mkhitaryan - or does his goal threat, ability from pieces and general nailed on-ness make him the better pick?

Would genuinely appreciate all feedback as this is my final transfer of the week after getting in Chica and Kane

Rough: Got 23 points and took a 4 point hit so 19.

Only Phil Jones delivered anything. Kane, Jesus, Aguero, Salah (C), Kolsanic, Willian, Ward-Prowse, Daniels, Forster, Stephens all failed to deliver.

After captaining Lukaku gw1/2 and seeing the benefits of having Mhiki/Pogba in other teams, would having all 3 be considered overkill bearing in mind how good United currently look going forward? Even though that was against West Ham and Swansea.

I've 2 Itb but I'm stuck with him... have Mooy already.
Would need a hit to get him out for someone at 7.5 or below but not sure it's worth it. Haven't decided yet if I play himor Carroll.

How do we feel about KDB to Eriksen and Salah to Mane on 2 FT?

I feel Eriksen and Mane will probably outscore Salah and KDB over the season.

        Agree?

Agree but KDB seems like he won't be rotated, unlike pretty much the rest of the City attack. Difficult to have City attacking cover otherwise. With Spurs you can have attacking cover by having Kane.

Worth taking -8 and doing Ritchie to Mooy to free up the funds?

Is it knee jerky getting rid of De Bruyne. I mean I know it is, it's just it's 10m and I could bring in the likes of Mkhitaryan or Eriksen who are in good form. Owners what are yous doing?

It is knee jerk yes BUT i did KdB to Eriksen last night. Its too difficult to try to cover MCI attacking returns. Eriksen will likely rise this week (maybe tonight) so wanted him in beforehand

          Not a knee jerk.

I had him last season and he did the same thing to me, played very deep and barely got in the box. I took him out after about GW6 and he never returned.

Silly me thought this season would be different with Pep spending £200m+, KDB finishing last season strong and then ripping it up in pre-season. But he's started this season exactly the same as the last.

I'm happy to go without City assets, Pep's system has players popping up all over the place (often not where you want them), he's a nightmare for rotation and I think the attacking points will be shared out.

He's gone, Eriksen is far more reliable I should have went with him at the start but didn't want him and Kane and wanted to cover City. Not making that mistake again.

Please help me by choosing one!!

        A) Monreal, KDB and Jesus -> Phil Jones, Mkhi and Kane (-4, no City cover)
        or
        B) Monreal, KDB and Jesus -> Phil Jones, David Silva and Kane (-4)
        or
        C) KDB and Jesus -> David Silva and Kane (No hit, keep Monreal)

Should I remove either Daniels or Fraser for a hit? Thinkin Daniels > Jones/ Maguire as both will rise in price. Less options available as Fraser replacements.

        Foster,
        Kolasinac, Bavies, Stephens
        Mane, Eriksen, Mkhi, Fraser, Carroll
        Kaku, Kane

        Myhill, Daniels, Rosenior, Quaner
