The ScoutCast – Episode 231 – Eavesdrop

This is a very strange experience.

Denied the opportunity to host this week’s ScoutCast by BT’s shortcomings and with the Wildcard active, I am forced to join you and eavesdrop while my decision-making is torn apart by Andy, Jonty, Az and Luke. I have to admit, it’s pretty tortuous.

It’s like my hands are firmly fastened to the couch while the quartet lapdance* their critique around me. How I want to get “involved”.

Aside from appraising my “ill-timed” Wildcard, the boys tackle your other community questions.

They consider the Liverpool double-up, question whether midfield coverage can replace either Kane and Lukaku, debate whether Alonso is essential and then look at how fixtures can shape cheap defensive acquisitions.

I’m pretty sure they answer them all exactly as I would. In fact, listening back, they appear to justify my Wildcard for me. I can hardly wait for next week.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Check Spurs and Southampton this week because Aurier and VVD may come in for their teams in place of Tripper and Stephens/Yoshida

Definitely no need to wild card! Team is strong. Just change slowly with FT's

Really considering Lacazette as a one week punt on my WC and getting Kane in week 5, would captain him if I do.

Chances of Lacazette scoring 4 more points than Kane to at least break even on the transfer?

Do you think there's a good chance it'll pay off?

I've got Eriksen, and if I go with Lacazette will have Davies as well. If I go with Kane I'll probably get Bellerin instead of Davies.

Starting to do my head in this WC, two weeks of tinkering is almost too much!

I am thinking use 2 FT to bring in Sanchez (c) for Mane. If he fails I can do a FT to Alli/Eriksen or take a hit to upgrade Lukaku/Jesus to Kane (have had no Spurs so far and better fixtures than Liverpool). Is this mad?

I wouldn't be thinking about it if I was using 2FT to do it.

Being on WC is what makes it an option I think.

Saving the WC for 2nd international break, the other transfer this week would be William to Brady.

I feel Sanchez would only be worth 11.9m playing striker, which unless Wenger is bold enough to bench Lacazette again I can't see happening, especially after the Liverpool game.

If you feel differently then go for it, it could pay off.

Looks like you have to add defenders in the mix from above. Potentially a better fixture for sure.

                So overall its:

                Morata + Kane + Bellerin + FT

                vs

                Lacazette (C) + Davies

But the defender carries on. Lots of pressure on Lacazette in that scenario.

I prefer Davies to Bellerin, but both have good fixtures in the next 5, so it's pretty close.

If I went with Lacazette and he blanks while Kane delivers then it was a failed experiment and I can move on, I think that would be easier to deal with than if it were the other way round and I played it safe and missed a haul from Laca.

Yeah it's not something I would normally want to do, but the lack of standout captain options, along with the chance of a Kane blank and further price drop make it somewhat appealing.

If Lacazette scores and Kane blanks again, would you actually do the transfer? Because that's the most likely scenario if Lacazette were to outscore Kane by 4 points.

      1. willl
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 6 months ago

Yes, it's a one week punt no matter what as I am set on Kane in by GW5.

I could also leave slightly more money itb to make Morata to Kane possible but I'm not as keen on that.

Actually I'd prefer to leave 0.4 more in the bank, in case Hazard dampens the prospects of Morata & Lacazette does well.

not definetely but a fair chance he will. We will see whenever they get one. How many will they get? Not sure they get more than a couple, maybe three and if so, is it worth the wait? But he is a decent pick beside the possible pk duties imo

Mooy & Brady for sure over next few games due to better fixtures. I'd be tempted by Richarlison & RLC longer term, but would probably go with the former anyway to play it safe - It's still a bit of a guess which of the mid-priced mids will come good as FPL assets this season, so fixtures seem comforting.

Repost for the late folk -

I've written another article - this time, it's a comprehensive analysis to get an answer to the Eriksen vs Alli dilemma, followed by a comparison of three budget strikers in Abraham, Vokes and Mounie. In-depth with all the stats, heat maps and average positions. Do give it a read.

Thanks for this. The Eriksen minutes situation is leaning me towards Alli.

Yeah, it's really tricky. Stats point towards Eriksen but SWA (H) after Dortmund at home, BOU (H) before Real away, CRY (H) before Real at home and WBA (H) after Dortmund at home.. could be rested for one of those based on last season, maybe not if Spurs' CL campaign is looking hopeless by then.

The rest came in that Swansea slot last year too. Poch's words and after last years disappointment in the competition suggest much more focus on getting out of the group this season.

Thoughts on this WC team; ?

    Foster

    Alonso - Jones - Cedric - Naughton

    Salah - Pogba - Willian

    Kane - Lukaku - Firmino

    (Elliot - Carroll - Chalobah - Long)

    Any feedback............ GO !

Looks good to me! Perhaps downgrade Willian to a 5.5/6.0 mid so you can upgrade Chalobah? Not sure how Hazard return will impact Willian, and would be nice not to have two 4.5 mids.

I really like B and D (have both in my team) but a bit worried about upcoming fixtures for both, especially D - If I was choosing again I'd be tempted to go B&C so you have Brady's strong home fixtures, and see how Richarlison gets on over next few weeks.

    Thank you.

      Carroll.

Cork likely 3 points, Carroll good chance of getting a CS as well but offers more at the other end of the pitch.

Really stuck for the first time this season - Soton defenders, PVA, KDB, Willian and Gabbiadini all need to go at some point. Just undecided what to do with only 1 FT and 0 in bank.

    Begovic Elliot
    Yoshida Stephens PVA Mee Long
    Salah KDB Willian Ritchie Carroll
    Kane Lukaku Gabbiadini

    A) KDB & Gabbiadini > Pogba & Firmino -4 pts
    B) KDB & PVA > Pogba & Alonso -4 pts
    C) KDB & Willian > Alli & Brady (giving me enough to do Gabbiadini > Firmino next) -4 pts

For Mark. These line up would be good to step in for IB breaks. Nothing worse than no FPL and no Scoutcast. Great show this week guys. It was a bit like Last of the Summer wine without compo and cleggy with Foggy keeping it going.

Never done it before but considering 5-2-3 this week! Any thoughts about it with this team?

    Foster
    Cedric Yoshida Suttner Naughton Kolasinic
    Eriksen Salah
    Lukaku(c) Kane Abraham

    Bench: Elliot Willian Carroll Ward-Prowse

I'd be tempted to play Carroll over Suttner, but could be worth it playing 5-2-3 just for the lols!
