The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 6

Quite simply, we can’t have them all.

On a day that began with us fixated on the fortunes of Sergio Aguero, it was perhaps fitting that almost every other big striker produced their own bid to steal his thunder.

Aguero was a slow starter but eventually found his gear to take his turn in Manchester City’s mauling of Crystal Palace.

A goal and an assist were his reward, with two bonus points ensuring that the Argentine avoided being dwarfed by the double-figure blitz from Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane from midfield.

Again, there was evidence that Pep Guardiola’s attacking riches border on the ridiculous. Just ask Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian sat unused on the bench, forcing his 678,000 owners – not least the 183,000 who acquired him with Palace in mind – to choke on a bitter pill.

Pep’s Jesus decision was perhaps signposted by 90 minutes in midweek. But it’s no less confusing for us Fantasy managers, who must now wonder if Guardiola will toy with ongoing rotation of his strikers, with Sterling and Sane building compelling claims for regular starts.

Chelsea in Gameweek 6 will tell us more, although it’s City’s meeting with a beleaguered Stoke City defence that we really care about now.

We can, of course, opt out completely. It’s not as if our options are limited.

Harry Kane’s brace at the London Stadium offered a reminder that he will not surrender the Golden Boot, or his place in squads.

Sold by 196,000, with 141,000 of those swapping to Aguero, the Spurs striker set the bar for the City man with a 13-point return in the early kick-off.

Kane remains a force of nature, with the talent to circumvent Spurs’ woes on the Wembley turf – he now has 11 goals from his last five away matches.

Romelu Lukaku wasn’t to be put in the corner. He picked off his sixth goal in as many Gameweeks, as Manchester United endured a hard-fought victory at St Mary’s.

But Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata won today’s battle.

He ruthlessly exploited an ailing Stoke City defence to punish the 148,000 who had disposed of his services amid the clamour for Aguero.

Chelsea and Morata won’t play against a centre-back pairing of Darren Fletcher and Glen Johnson every week, but the Spaniard’s haul was nonetheless telling.

It offered a reminder that this is a season awash with goal scoring riches.

Our midfield firepower may have stalled – thanks in no small part to the absence of Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez. But that’s allowed the strikers to roll back the years and reinstate themselves as the critical position in our squad.

This could have a marked impact on our squad construction, particularly for those still with Wildcards to play. Funds in midfield will surely be scrutinised, monies in defence squeezed.

This could be a season where the big-hitting forwards take turns to dominate. Restricting ourselves to just two may no longer cut it.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Your main issue is Stephens, so it may be time to get rid this week, possibly for Cedric. But from next week, I would be looking to do Jesus > Morata, Lukaku > Aguero, even for a -4, it should pay off in the long run. Both City and Chelsea have good runs after their game next week.

Kane may have played himself into splitting that dominance.

A goal or two in Europe would swing it for either.

Sanchez could be the best one though if he arrives on Monday.

Ya but the fact he's been found out. They analyzed it on MOTD. He just put his head down and runs full belt and hits it. If keepers stay straight, they'll save it. If Vardy tries for the corner, hell probably blast it wide. I wouldn't say his penalties are secure at the moment, he's got some practice to do

Chelsea at home and Morata is nailed. I think Jesus likely starts but with Sane, Sterling, Silva & Aguero all doing well, there is a chance he doesn't.

Lukaku -> Aguero next week for the decent run of fixtures.

B a good move, but a week too early for Morata. Vardy has a great fixture though, but I'd want Morata over Vardy long term. So, I don't really like it.

I would consider A. GW 8 is probably the time to wildcard with the fixture swings. Laca and Coutinho have good fixtures, so that's as good a punt as any.

Vardy could have had a hatty, although, we have to accept that Liverpool have a shitty defense.

I thought he looked very sharp. Had he scored the pen, people would be falling over themselves to get him in.

Think I'll go Kane, Morata and Lukaku.
I just don't trust Pep and Jesus and Kun will always share their spoils.

My take on the forward line is as follows.

Aguero and Morata are priorities for their upcoming fixtures. Especially since Spurs, United, Liverpool and Arsenals fixtures stiffen all around the same time. All those teams are pretty much playing each other.

The third slot has the following options:

      A. Uber cheap: CL, Niasse, Hemed, Abraham all look options that you could play or bench. We need a couple of more weeks to see if they nail down spots though. You could then use the extra funds to strengthen other areas of your team.
      B. Mid-price: there are a couple of options here. Wood, Bony, Carrol, Chica. They just don't look worth it though. Unless we see some form emerging.
      C. Poor mans premium forwards: Vardy/ Firmino. Vardy edges it with his fixtures. It ensures you can get a nice balance to your team.
      D. Another premium forward. Here you would decide to slot in either Kane or Lukuku. This would however mean you're probably going for a 3 man midfield. Or a budget-friendly defence. But you do get a strong looking forward line with captain options across your front three, which is always a nice dillemma to have.

Nice summary of options. Cheers! C or D for me.

Expensive defender fails can be annoying but I'm gonna give Alonso one more chance...if Firm fails you again then get rid.

What's the criteria of the fun team? Unless its clearly defined the 2nd team usually just gets the transfers the first team doesn't...

        - fun with captaincy choice (riskier one)
        - fun with more balanced team
        - fun with only login to make some transfer and setup team before gw

        😉

Actually a pure torture team needs to be setup consisting of players you transfer out from your main team. And if you bring them back into your main team, you get rid of them from the torture team. You just know everyone in the torture team will be hauling every single week.

RMWCT over the International break (Gw8)

    Krul Elliot
    Luiz Cedric Otamendi Fernandez Hunemier
    Alli Coutinho ECM RLC Tarroll
    Kane Kun Morata

Alli could be Salah by Gw10

Thoughts?? No Wingbacks might be an issue though
But the big front five Are irresistible atm
