Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 7

Time for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article where we take a look back at the weekend action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 7 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result:

FixtureMoTM
West Ham vs SpursHarry Kane
Swansea vs WatfordKiko Femenia
Man City vs Crystal PalaceLeroy Sane
Stoke vs ChelseaAlvaro Morata
Burnley vs HuddersfieldChristopher Schindler
Everton vs BournemouthOumar Niasse
Southampton vs Man UnitedPhil Jones
Leicester vs LiverpoolPhilippe Coutinho
Brighton vs NewcastleTomer Hemed
Arsenal vs West BromNacho Monreal

Alvaro Morata’s 24-point haul made him the highest scoring player this week and adds yet another expensive forward option to a growing list.

Harry Kane’s impressive away form continued with a 17-point return to follow his 19 against Everton, while Philippe Coutinho flew the flag for pricey midfielders with 16 points, leaving managers pondering how to stretch their budget even further.

Luckily, Christopher Schindler and Kiko Femenia seem to be on hand to offer us great enablers. Both players have been in excellent form, with the former now the eighth highest-scoring player overall. He costs just 6.0.

Gameweek 7 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn eight points or more in bonus for the season.

The Transfer Trends

Gabriel Jesus is the top target out after his benching at the weekend – but that was before the Sergio Aguero story broke earlier today.

The lack of points from Everton duo Wayne Rooney and Michael Keane seems to have counted against them (as has the latter’s injury doubt), while Christian Eriksen and Roberto Firmino make up the final two spots.

Sergio Aguero is again the most sought-after player and is now the highest scorer in the game. However, his injury following a car accident in Amsterdam is obviously going to have its effect this Gameweek and beyond.

Jamaal Lascelles is a somewhat surprising inclusion but has already netted twice in the league to add to his appeal. Mohammed Salah continues to feature week after week, while Alvaro Morata’s hat-trick and Alexandre Lacazette’s brace make them hot properties.

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could be good options for the coming six weeks.

Notes

A jump in rank by nearly 3,000 places for me, so all in all a pretty good week.

Fraser Forster and Kyle Naughton claimed clean sheets in the previous round and they handed the torch to Mathias Jorgensen and Markus Suttner in Gameweek 6. If I can get two shutouts a week I’ll be more than happy.

My early move for Philippe Coutinho really paid off as he returned a 16-point haul.

He was Sky Sports gold last season thanks to his monopoly on the MoTM award and I expect the same again moving forward.

Mohamed Salah chipped in with his usual goal, but it’s the other two midfielders that are causing me most concern.

Nemanja Matic failed to provide bonus and has now earned it just three times – that’s a major worry for a player whose sole appeal is passing and tackles.

My other main issue is Anthony Knockaert. The reason for his inclusion was to cover Brighton’s many single match days and therefore offer a captain option.

But as it turns out, Markus Suttner appears to be the better captain option as clean sheets seem more obtainable than Knockaert points.

I’m not sure how I look to rectify those issues, but have a number of players on my personal watchlist.

Switching to a 4-3-3 formation with Phil Jones at 7.5 was an option I had considered but he now looks set to miss out against Palace tomorrow.

Another alternative is to switch to a premium midfielder and budget midfield gem such as Watford’s Andre Carrillo, who is just 5.8.

Obviously Carrillo’s main appeal is his enabling price, but he’s also looked threatening in the matches I’ve watched, so he could start to churn out the odd assist. He’s started the last four matches in a row, although Roberto Pereyra’s return may change that.

Thankfully, Watford’s fixtures are still pretty tough, so I’ll sit back and assess before jumping ship. Unfortunately, that means I’ll likely stick with Matic and Knockaert for now in an effort to conserve transfers.

Captaining Alexandre Lacazette on Monday was a great feeling as finally one of my armband “hokey-cokey” transfers paid off in style.

The fact he didn’t get MoTM was a blow, given that he earned it early in the season for essentially “making his debut”, but I guess I can’t argue with Nacho Monreal, who was sensational on the day.

Captain Plan

Sat 30th – Kane (hud)
Sun 1st – Lacazette (BHA)

    Matchday Roles at FFS

Fantasy Football Scout have one or more part-time positions available to help us with the services we provide on matchday.

We’re looking for candidates who are keen Fantasy Premier League managers, familiar with the intricacies of the game.

They ideally need to be proficient writers and familar and experienced with various forms of social media.

They also need to able to adapt to a pressured environment, in order to provide content and articulate insight quickly and effectively as match events unfold at pace.

Candidates need to be available to work on major matchdays – mainly Saturdays - including availability over the Christmas period.

The successful candidate(s) work in the London area in the UK so ideally, you will live there or nearby.

The roles will be paid on an agreed hourly or daily rate based on experience.

If you’re interested, please send your application – CV preferably – to mark@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

I'm afraid, given it's Friday and very hectic, I can't answer questions on this now in this thread but if you mail me, I will try to respond to any queries over the weekend.

The plan will be to contact some candidates and interview them in London over the break.

‘Last Game of the Season’ is an interesting shout! Haven’t heard it before...
At first I was like: wow that’s a dumbass idea, totally defeats the purpose(cause wouldn’t have a BGW Squad to go back to). But then I thought about the madness that Championship Day brings (Hopefully Title/Relegation, Form, GoldenBoot, etc.) and 1week WC might outweigh lack of return to OG team...

    A. Antonio > Ramsey
    B. Firmino > Rashford
    C. Save FT. (Although might WC next GW)

    Foster
    Monreal • Trippier • Daniels
    Mkhitaryan • Antonio • Eriksen • Atsu
    Lukaku • Kane • Firmino
    (Elliot, Carroll, Suttner, Long)

It has to be A, he's not a sure starter this week (50-50).

    One last question:
    (1) Kun to Morata
    (2) Kun + Kola to Kane + Monreal (-4)
    Have Kaku and Firmino.

My question effectively is whether Kane can outscore Morata by 4 pts. I will get the one left for Kaku regardless next week.

Vardy and Mooy or Firmino and Choupo-Moting for this week?

Any help would be great. Cheers!

    WC draft: http://tinyimg.io/i/0VXfpkR.PNG
Gives me quite a bit of flexibility I think to go 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 or 3-5-2

Would you do Clark to Cresswell for a hit?

Think it could pay off in the medium-long term - maybe not this week, but all I know is that Clark is nailed on for a 1-pointer, while Cresswell could get anything between 1 and 15

    Have 2FT

    1) Firmino and Jones -> Vardy (riski?) and Danilo

    2) Jones -> Maguire (can't afford Danilo) and save 2FT to international break

    3) Jones -> Cedric and save 2FT to the international break

I'm sure we're all in a similar boat but I'd love to know peoples thoughts on Aguero replacements.

    A) Jésus good fixture and now the main man in the most attacking team in PL (Free)

    B) Morata Great long term fixtures, now has Hazard back for assists, very strong fixtures till Jan. (Free)

    C) Lukaku Not great fixtures, Great form (-4)

Looks like price rises mean this has to happen tonight... A,B or C?

For the next 4 GW, I prefer Jesus, but it's risky going without Lukaku for this week. I would still go A though, as it doesn't cost you a hit.

    Aguero to morata or lacazette?
    Start Schindler or mbemba?

No other arsenal or Chelsea cover

Not Kola, despite what every single soul out here said and repeated on and on less than a week ago

I didn't. I think Kola is a one trick pony (give into feet and run rather than getting to byline and picking someone out). Anyone marking him worth his salt would suss this.

Bellerin if you hope for atta king returns

Monreal if you think you could use the extra 0.5 and love bonus points when CS

          So, Monreal imo

Bellerin for me if you have the cash, otherwise Nacho.

Not much between Kola and Bellerin attacking wise, in my opinion. Monreal gets BPS apparently so also a good shout if you can't afford the first two.
