Scout Notes

International Scout Notes – Thursday

A late Harry Kane goal spares a dreadful England, while the complexities of qualification in South America could have a knock-on effect when the Fantasy calendar resumes in eight days’ time.

Here are the notes from last night’s World Cup matches.

Kane again to the rescue

Harry Kane scored for the fourth consecutive match to win a woeful match for lifeless England.

The Spurs striker now has 14 goals from his last nine matches in all competitions, with a late winner against Slovenia confirming England’s qualification for next year’s World Cup in Russia.

His 37.5% Fantasy Premier League ownership will now be hoping that Sunday’s dead rubber in Lithuania will tempt England boss Gareth Southgate to rest Kane, but that seems unlikely should the forward retain the captain’s armband.

Man City’s Kyle Walker provided the assist on a night when England laboured to break down their well-organised opponents.

His club team-mate Raheem Sterling covets a central role in Pep Guardiola’s side and was handed a chance to prove he was worthy of just that when Southgate elected to play him behind Kane.

But Sterling fluffed his lines, too often caught in possession in key areas, although he was unlucky not to open the scoring as England finally came to something approaching life in the second-half.

Few players impressed on the night, although the in-form Marcus Rashford caught the eye before the break with a display of pace and intent from the left-wing, and Joe Hart ended up with the man of the match award for a fine double save towards the end of an otherwise unedifying night.

England will travel to Russia with the hopes of a nation towards the past caring end of the scale.

Fantasy managers will be rather more invested in Sunday’s trip to Vilnius as it provides Southgate with a chance to experiment with his line-up and rest key assets for what will be a busy October once the domestic, and then European, schedule kicks in again.

Kane’s pitch time could be all the more pertinent with Romelu Lukaku now
ruled out of Belgium’s clash with Bosnia on Saturday.

The Man United striker has failed to train all week due to an ankle complaint but is optimistic of making Tuesday’s encounter with Cyprus.

It is thought that the issue is the same injury that cast doubt over Lukaku’s start against Crystal Palace in Gameweek 7. Reports state that the striker had painkilling injections to overcome the problem and he completed 90 minutes against the Eagles. Manchester United are said to be in constant contact with the Belgium FA over the Lukaku’s condition.

However, Fantasy managers are now left with a situation where there are doubts – of varying degrees – over the availability of the three top-scoring FPL forwards – Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Morata and Lukaku – ahead of next weekend’s deadline.

South American Plot Twists

A number of Premier League stars, most notably Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Man City defender Nicolas Otamendi, are in for a fraught final World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

With the top four South American teams going through automatically to the finals in Russia, and the fifth into a play-off against New Zealand, only Brazil have already qualified.

Six teams below them are now fighting it out for the four places remaining.

Uruguay, at home to Bolivia next, need just a draw to guarantee their place. Chile and Colombia also have their fate in their own hands, but the former must travel to Brazil and the latter to Peru, with both needing a win to secure qualification for sure.

Argentina are currently out of the qualification places, and will have to win at altitude in Ecuador. If they do, they will be assured of at least a play-off place. Draw and they’re relying on other results to go their way, lose and they’re out.

All of that sets up a huge night for Sanchez’s Chile in Brazil.

The Arsenal midfielder scored the winner in a 2-1 win over Ecuador last night, adding to his back-to-back assists over the last couple of Gameweeks. Although he’s back in action on Wednesday morning, Sanchez’s trip to Watford isn’t until next Saturday evening, giving him a little more time to recuperate.

Otamendi is in for a do or die tie in Ecuador before travelling back for a 3pm home match against Stoke City two Saturdays from now. He played the full 90 minutes, as did Man United’s stand-in keeper Sergio Romero, as Argentina were held to a goalless draw at home to Peru last night.

Whatever the outcomes for their national teams, both Sanchez and Otamendi are likely to be drained by a fraught international break.

Brazil drew 0-0 in Bolivia, with Man City’s Gabriel Jesus playing the full 90 minutes of a match played at altitude.

Philippe Coutinho had a poor evening and was subbed off after 66 minutes, Chelsea’s Willian replacing him.

Fernandinho was given an eight-minute run-out towards the end of the fixture, while Roberto Firmino was an unused sub, as was Ederson.

David Ospina and Davinson Sanchez played the full 90 minutes in Colombia as they lost 2-1 to Paraguay.

Spurs defender Sanchez has started the last four matches for his club but might struggle to make that a fifth, at home to Bournemouth next Saturday, as he will have been involved in a winner-takes-all clash in Peru early on Wednesday morning.

West Brom striker Salomon Rondon started and finished Venezuela’s 0-0 draw at home to Uruguay.

Elsewhere…

Bournemouth’s Josh King scored twice and provided an assist as Norway romped to an 8-0 win in San Marino.King was, however, forced off with a knock, with the Norwegian media reporting that he had an ice pack on his knee after his withdrawal.

Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen got the winner in Denmark’s 1-0 victory in Montenegro. Both he and Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel played the full 90 minutes.

Germany eased past Northern Ireland 3-1, with Leroy Sane and Emre Can given second-half run-outs. Shkodran Mustafi and Antonio Rudiger were unused substitutes.

Gareth McAuley, Jonny Evans, Chris Brunt and Steven Davis played the full 90 minutes for Northern Ireland, with McAuley providing the assist for the home side’s late consolation goal.

Scotland’s last-gasp win over Slovakia included 90 minutes for Andrew Robertson, James Morrison and Matty Phillips. Darren Fletcher played 78 minutes before being replaced by James McArthur.

Brighton keeper Matty Ryan and Huddersfield midfielder Aaron Mooy started and finished Australia’s 1-1 draw with Syria.

Bournemouth striker Lys Mousset scored as France’s U21 side won their Euro U21 qualifier 2-1 against Montenegro.

Drop Van Dijk as saints good run almost at an end.

If you go with Forster even from saints you could upgrade van dijk to a chelsea defender if you wanted or else drop him for an even cheaper gk and upgrade to alonso?

Is mariappa 3.9? if not might be worth swapping him out for a 3.9 def (are there any yet) since he is not likely to be playing for Watford anyway.

Really reckless going with no subs but might work for you, good luck with it.

You are on a wc, that is the end of the run. You should be looking at players with a lot longer runs than that as you don't want to be wasting transfers fiddling about with your defence imo

Just my own thoughts on it but I wouldn't bring in a player for 4 gws on my wc. You don't know when you will get a chance to shift him on (could have multiple other fires in your team by then) so why do something so short term?

I don't think so, he's just giving Delph some hope now that's he's back from injury. He's probably created a nice problem for Pep as he's delivered when given the chance.

I'd expect Danilo to come back in when Delph has a bad game.

Yes Jones does look a steal atm (will probably bench V`s Liv and play 3-4-3)
More and more edging towards Raheem Sterling with KUN being potentially absent for 6 weeks , City seem to have goals in them a bit like Liverpool early season 🙁
A bit weird that for now NO LFC in that squad but guessing you shouldn`t really have too much loyalty when it comes to FPL !!

It is hard alright especially when they are scoring so well. I think mane and salah will return premium like scores all season but FPL have put them at a price point that makes it hard to accommodate them and the three big forwards you have.

I have basically got your team except one less top forward and salah and eriksen over your silva and miki. I do have a much more premium defence but I'm not sure my premium mids are worth that much over your budget mids and extra striker.

Still in two minds myself which way is the best way to go but my wc is donned so have to just grit my teeth and hope for the best I guess.

Isn't the best way to play FPL just to pick players that make you want to hide if you don't own them? Like Kane, Aguero (when fit), Sanchez (now he is back), Salah (even if he misses you are still crapping yourself when he gets the opportunities and you don't own him), Davies, Utd defender, Chelsea defender.

I don't see players like Lukaku, Hazard, KDB in that bracket.

Maybe dropping Alli to make money for kane is the answer then? Still not sure having so much exposure to spurs at Wembley is the best of strategies (I have Kane and Eriksen).

I don't want to get blinded by Kane having a good run and Alli having a bit of a drought given the 3m price difference. Alli should be well rested and he takes up very advanced positions.

It's very unlikely that Kane-owned teams will have Lukaku, Hazard and/or Sanchez who are also capable of double point returns.

I agree but if you stand back and look at this as a game of texas holdem say. Someone hurting you by going all in with a pair of 5's when their is an ace on the table is not as likely to happen as the person with 2 aces in their hand.

Not owning Alli will not hurt you but not owning Kane could massively hurt you. Alli might have a decently high ownership but nobody/(barring the odd loony toon) will capt him so the negative side of not owning him is not that great. Alli to sterling, kaku to kane looks a sensible move to me.

Kaku without pens is not as dangerous either imo as his explosive potential is seriously diminished. A bit like Costa, he may well tick along with a goal a game maybe the odd random double but without the added bonus of pens I just don't know if he has the same destructive potential as Kane does.

      None of these:
      A) You could do it but i don't like swapping defenders of the same team.
      B) Just don't
      C) No chance to predict who will score more. Plus that Sterling is cheaper.
      D) I would do it but not for 5th defender. Maybe for 4th defender..

If you are on a WC in what order are you prioritising your money?

    A) Forwards

    B) Mids

    C) Defenders

    Are you favouring a

    A) 343

It's great that he's back in the gym. I just think there's no chance Conte starts him against Palace when they have Roma in the CL a few days later.

      Batshuayi will start, imo.

I think that was a very different game. Man City boss possession so Conte tried to counteract that with Willian. Palace is an entirely different proposition... Chelsea will have all of the ball.

          Batshuayi starts.

I'm a physio. Grade 2 is 4 weeks +. If he was player that didn't rely on his speed as much, maybe less. Bike is the first thing a player can do after a hamstring strain and the fact he's taking pics suggests he's not exactly going 'balls out' either.

Hamstring injuries are one of the most recurring injuries in professional athletes. The muscle can feel fine but still be weak and should be given more time for recuperation.

As his injury has been described as myofascial then he doesn't actually have a muscle or ligament tear, but an injury to the connective tissue that covers the muscles. That may well be reduced in 2 weeks but should be handled carefully.

I don't think he is saying limited playing time but rest and allowing the injury to heal 100% before going back.

As per below I am not sure it would be possible for Morata to go from playing 1900 minutes last year, 2400 minutes the year before, 2300 minutes the year before that to playing 4500+ minutes this season (champions league, premier league, fa cup (later stages), league cup (later stages), international football could all ad up to over 5000 minutes if he stays fit). He will have to have his work load managed or he will pick up injuries that will allow his body manage it for him.

                This...

Awesome comment and 100% agree. Similar to when Shaw came to Man U - was told he wasn't fit, extra training and got injured.

Morata was deemed not fit enough, put extra in and has got injured.

I'm not a physio but there are plenty legitimate articles advising runners etc, if you look for them.

All our organs and muscles regenerate, so for a hamstring, it would be sensible to give it the appropriate time to rest and recuperate. I'd be surprised if 2 weeks is enough.

I wouldn't read too much into the myofscial - kind of a buzz word and whilst there is a difference in recovery times between inter/intramuscular injuries I don't think this will be the case here.

Main reason is because he doesn't need to be so why risk it? Chelsea have a lot of games and this kid has never played a full season of games. They will have to manage his workload over the season or he will get a lot more of these muscle related injuries imo

Wait for the training to start. But its not the kind of injury you can play through like Lukaku's ankle for example. Think of it more like a twig your trying to see how far you can bend.....once its broke, its broke.

Forget him. He's been ruled out by medical professionals for 4 to 6 weeks, inline with what normally happens with a grade 2 tear. Him being on a bike saying he hopes to be fit doesn't cut 2 to 4 weeks off his prognosis does it ? Unless they got it wrong

You may be right in this instance . But I feel it's only fair to mention that Morata has not suffered a grade 2 muscular tear (up to 6 weeks) He has suffered a grade 2 Myifascial injury, which is a lot less severe and can in circumstances only take 2 weeks

Ok mate. I'm no physio , just going by what they quoted. Even if he takes 2 week to recover will he be match fit . Even worse a cameo from bench

          Time will tell

            Yeah. Im no physio either.
Hec could well be still out for weeks
Im just clearing up the facts. Seems the papers have picked up on the phraze "grade 2" and automatically decided it's a tear.
A mate of mine had Myofascia injury syndrome. When he played and it pulled he couldn't play on but the cooking following week her was back up and at them.
Im still stearing clear of Morata though until Hes actually back on the pitch.

What's the equivalent of 'hiding behind the sofa'
for owning players who get a lot of chances but miss them
It's like constantly being too far off the sofa or something ...

u can sell for .1 for every .2 differenxe from buying price
so you can sell for 4.7 when he is at 4.8 if bought at 4.6

    3. Klopptomist Scott Jelly

No - he's currently 4.9, which would drop to 4.8

This is 0.2 above your buying price and so you'd gain 0.1 relative to before you bought him (sell at 4.7).

If he drops again, selling price would be 4.6 🙂

          No

Hegazi price is 4.9 which will become 4.8
You bought him at 4.6. His selling price will be 4.7 whether his value is either 4.8 or 4.9
Selling price will drop to 4.6 if value drops to 4.7 (not happening any time soon)

A lot of the predicted droppers will hover just above -100% due to nearly all transfers during IB will be on wild card. Expect non-wildcard transfers to pick up next Thursday.

Some are playing him as a third mid. Plus it is taking a possible important United slot.

While Pogba is out for a while I just find it hard to find a better punt in that price bracket. I’ll be playing him as 3rd mid but rest of squad should make up for it if he doesn’t work out

He's worth playing IMO. There are plenty of peeps playing Atsu / Ritchie as part of a rotation strategy - well I think Felleini is well worth the extra over Ritchie... Felleini will score goals.

Actually I'm going to go ahead and entirely disagree with you.

There isn't a single midfielder who has a higher score than him who is cheaper. He's scored 3 goals in less than 4 games playing time. On a goals per minute ranking - he's well ahead of the other cheap midfielders.

Sorry for the RP, would like some advice on this line up:

    Foster, Elliot
    Otamendi, Daniels, Simpson, Cedric, Mariappa
    Salah, Alli, Silva, Richarlison, Carroll
    Kane, Lukaku, Rodriguez

1FT, £0.2 ITB, WC still available.

What would you go with here:

    A) WC to fix up mostly defence, and help work Rodriguez out of the team.
    B) Lukaku -> Jesus
    C) Rodriguez -> Joselu
    D) Other

    The 'Keep Kak' draft :

    Pope Elliot
    Alonso Davies Otamendi Ward Wimmer
    Eriksen Sane Sterling Fellaini Carroll
    Kane Lukaku Calvert-Lewin

Means no Jesus, no Couts, playing 4-4-2/5-3-2...not sure I like...
