Technical Area – The Man City Midfield

Through the first two months of the season, no side has scored more frequently than Manchester City.

In their second season under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage, City have averaged more than three goals per match to open this campaign and already look to be mounting the strongest title challenge on show.

With Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus as options in attack, we are blessed with two obvious routes to investment. However, reading Pep Guardiola’s intentions with the pair remains a test, made all the more difficult by the news of Aguero’s return to light training following his rib injury.

Just as Gabriel Jesus seemed cemented in the central attacking role, suddenly Aguero’s return seems more imminent, casting further doubts on the likely minutes of the pair over forthcoming Gameweeks.

So, instead, our attentions are drawn to City’s midfield in an effort to achieve coverage of this potent attacking unit while we wait for the striker situation to resolve.

In this article, we’ll be running the rule over three mid-priced Manchester City midfield options – David Silva, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling – alongside the more expensive Kevin De Bruyne, in an effort to ascertain where best to seek value from this side over the coming Gameweeks.

Listened to the Scoutcast, some podcasts, read articles and came up with the below.

    Fabianski - Elliot
Alonso - Davies - Van Dijk - Ward - Wimmer
Silva - Sterling - Richarlison - Chupo Motíng - RLC
    Kane - Jesus - Vardy

    0.6 in the bank..

Bit stuck with my WC defence. I think Ward is nailed and I want to keep Jones and think Holding is a bit of a bargain so that’s three spots done. Playing a 3 or 4 man defence:

    A. Luiz, Simpson
    B. Van Dijk, Maguire
    C. Trippier, Cedric

    Thanks

Great article, really helpful. Nice to see the expected goals and assists starting to feature as well.

Pick 2 out of these 3:
    A) Mee
    B) Daniels
    C) Moreno
