Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 8 – Sunday

Sunday did its best to provide incident and excitement, although it was always going to be difficult to follow on from yesterday’s spoils. An unexpected Manolo Gabbiadini brace stole the show, while assists for budget midfielders provided the rest of the Fantasy fare, as defences buckled in both matches.

Gross the provider once again

Brighton has now scored six goals this season, with Pascal Gross involved in five of them.

The German claimed his third assist of the season with his interception that lead to Anthony Knockaert‘s sweetly struck opener.

Gross took an ownership 14.1% into Gameweek 8, having been signed by over 109,000 new managers, although another 68,000 saw fit to move him out. They may be regretting that decision this evening after another steady six-point return from the budget midfielder.

It was Knockaert who went into the campaign considered our most likely attacking option in the Seagulls ranks. But the Frenchman has been on the periphery until today. He fired a first goal of the season on his recall to Chris Hughton’s starting XI following his benching at Arsenal.

Both midfielders can build on Sunday’s points over a continued run of favourable fixtures over the next four Gameweeks. Hughton’s men face visits to West Ham and Swansea, while Southampton and Stoke are the next visitors to the Amex Stadium.

However, that run is more likely to promote interest in the Brighton defence and, intriguingly, we may have a new budget option available to us.

Shane Duffy was forced off with what looked like a thigh problem to be replaced by Uwe Huenemeier, who, at 3.9, may now be called into action. The German is already owned by 6.2% of managers as a bench warming budget option but could now enter more squads should Duffy face a spell on the sidelines.

Gabbiadini delivers as Forster falters

Manolo Gabbiadini scored his first goals since Gameweek 2 with a brace against Newcastle United to provide a rare double-digit return.

The Italian first pegged back the visitors with a fine solo effort before converting a spot-kick after Shane Long was felled.

Dusan Tadic was on the pitch at the time of the award, indicating that Gabbiadini has now assumed penalty duties. Tadic had previously taken and scored a spot-kick ahead of the striker against West Ham in Gameweek 2.

Gabbiadini was recalled to the Saints starting line-up today having been reduced to cameo roles since his last start in Gameweek 4. He had suffered a loss of 190,000 owners over that spell and went into today’s game as part of just 95,000 squads.

The 12-points appear unlikely to spark a renaissance, although Gabbiadini’s confidence levels will be boosted ahead of West Brom’s visit in Gameweek 9. Another return against the Baggies could see some begin to reconsider the striker, although his previous inconsistency, coupled with the availability of Swansea City’s Tammy Abraham, will likely temper interest.

Fraser Forster‘s uncertain display helped ensure that Southampton had to settle for a point.

The keeper was slow to react to Isaac Hayden’s first-half strike, while he also lets Ayoze Perez’s shot rebound back to the striker for the eventual winner.

Forster is part of 9.0% of squads and went into Gameweek 8 having produced nine points via a penalty save at Stoke City last time out. That haul had earned him 56,000 new owners before Saturday’s deadline, second only to Newcastle’s Rob Elliot who picked up 70,000 managers. Both keepers produced just a single point to reward their recent investors.

Elsewhere for Newcastle, Christian Atsu recovered from the knock that kept him from international duty and duly delivered an assist for his 4.2% ownership. The Ghanian’s initial drive was blocked before rebounding to Hayden to convert the Magpies’ opener.

Like Atsu, Matt Ritchie also figured having recovered from the injury that kept him out of Scotland’s squad over the break. However, his role on set-pieces remains reduced by Jonjo Shelvey’s presence. Ritchie took 13 of 15 corners with Shelvey out of favour but shared them four apiece today.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Palace yeah but Arsenal had enough players on the pitch that could have troubled us. Fair point about United but the times they did try to go forward Gomez wasn't troubled or beaten at all

    Kane Aguero Aguero

0.8 - 1.4 itb (will be use to get rid of TAA or Mbemba next window)

Thoughts? Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. Especially when it comes to a midfielder in the price bracket 5-6.5 mil.

One of the Agueros was meant to be Jesus

Nuts...was hoping there was a double-Aguero chip out there that I'd somehow missed. 🙂

Salah (v tot and whose price is about to - 0.1) out, Fabregas (v WAT) in for GW9

Then back to Salah for GW10 v HUD

    ???

Or is it that risky in case I need a free transfer for an injury?

Depends on Spurs defensive resolve against Liverpool I suppose

I agree. Just because you get a free transfer to use every week, doesn't mean it has to be used that week. If you save it this week when you have no urgent transfers to be made, you can do a double transfer for free next week that might make all the difference. You never know what the state of our team is going to be this time next week.

I've had a decent week, but it could have easily been better. Davies and Clark both sit out, which means I'm down to 10 men because I decided to hold on to Morata despite his injury and RLC was ineligible to play against his parent club.

Anyone know why Clark didn't play?

No clue on Clark. Was a rough week in terms of players playing.

Everytime I think my next gameweek will be great and everytime it's shite. I'm now 1.5M overall, that's terrible.

        Foster Elliot

        Davies Otamendi Jones Cédric Mbemba

        Alli D.Silva Mkhitaryan Carroll King

        Kane Lukaku Chicharito

I already took an early -4 this week to ditch Chicha & Mkhi. Just brought in Abraham & Sterling. Completely kneejerk and I'm not sure about it. But I've been patient enough and it didn't pay off as expected so let's have fun a little bit!

Okay, so updated team looks reasonable. Don't have Lukaku myself, but captaincy vs Hud looks promising. Think chances of a nice green arrow next week are very promising! Keep an eye out for injuries from the midweek matches in Europe.

Haha, well, do you happen to know how the price changes work? I read that they're going to be adjusted after this coming gameweek - does that mean that they're going to change before we can make any transfers? And if so, would it make sense to wildcard now for the coming gameweek so that we can get players likely to rise based on performances?

        1. ★Kuntheman★
          • 8 Years

I think that it'll change before you can make transfers. (check the rules just to be sure) I'd wildcard based on my knowledge of it.

I hate their price change system...

Cheers, yeah I think it wasn't 100% clear that they'd change before we can transfer but it makes sense.

I think overall I like a stable market that doesn't reward lucky early transfers as in FPL, but I have very limited experience - this is my first time with UCL.

    Fabianski (Elliot)
    Azpilicueta Davies Monreal Jones (-------)
    ------- ------ Fellaini (Carroll, Loftus-Cheek)
    Kane Morata --------

Benching Fellaini until he gets back. Basically narrowed down other moves to a few options, would love some help because I have just enough for each of these:
    A) Mbemba-Eriksen-Salah-Jesus
    B) Mbemba-Silva-Salah-Aguero
    C) Mbemba-Eriksen-Sterling-Aguero
    D) Ward-Sterling-Salah-Aguero

Option D could be any of Ward/Mee/Moreno btw, figured Ward was the best placeholder.

Eriksen is too good to leave my team anytime soon, then again I don't have Kane! Getting a non-playing defender in is a bad idea imo.

With the 4 defenders you have already, I feel like you're never gonna need your 5th. Having had my team end up with 4 players not playing this weekend, I can say that it is important to have players that play every week, but what happened to me this week is the exception, not the rule.

With all of that said, I would potentially look at Hunemeier. Looks like he's going to get a few games now and he's only 3.9. Perfect for maximising your budget for the other players you're looking at.
