Apologies for repost - bottomed in last article.

Real Madrid vs Spurs from a fantasy football perspective.

I thought i'd write a short report for the benefit of those who didn't watch the game. First of all, full disclosure. I currently have 3 Spurs assets in my FPL team - Davies, Eriksen and Kane.

Poch came up with a creative gameplan unexpectedly fielding Llorente to partner Kane. While last season Poch rarely varied from his standard 4-2-3-1 formation this season has seen him change formation depending on the opposition. For FPL managers this is a slight concern as the line-up is no longer very predictable. This was the most defensive I have ever seen Spurs line up under Poch but it was still an open and entertaining game. It would have been no surprise if the score had been 0-0, 3-0, 0-3 or 3-3. Both sides had chances and both were denied by excellent goalkeeping.

Lloris was superb in this game bringing off several world class saves and only being beaten by Ronaldo's penalty which he had no chance with. From an FPL perspective though at 5.5m De Gea is the better pick.

CBs - Vertonghen, Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez all had a very good game. The star though was Sanchez who was an absolute beast on showed he had a big game temperament. They are all priced at 6.0m but I suspect that Sanchez will turn out to be a baps monster and the pick of the 3. Personally I think they are all slightly overpriced though given the other tempting Spurs options available.

Wing-backs - It's probably a misnomer to call them WBs in this game as they mostly concentrated on defending. Going forward though the return of Rose may be a long term issue for Davies owners. He's clearly not ready to start yet but he's a better defender and faster and stronger than Davies. The corollary to this though is that when he is fit he is likely to get the tougher games while Davies should still score highly when he plays. I'm not going to get rid of Davies but I wouldn't be bringing him in until Spurs schedule gets easier.

On the other side of the pitch Aurier has a very good game despite giving away the penalty. It's a similar situation to Davies/Rose for Trippier but possibly more so as I can see Aurier becoming the clear 1st choice pick. At 5.9m though with disciplinary issues I don't think Aurier is a good FPL choice. Trippier may remain so at a tempting 5.5m if you have a strong bench.

Midfield - Both Sissoko and Winks had their best games in a Spurs shirt. At 5.4m Sissoko isn't really an option but if you are looking for a cheap enabler and haven't used up all your Spurs slots you could do far worse than Winks at 4.8m. He will get assists and a few goals too plus the extra point for the CS quite frequently.

Eriksen - I'm a massive fan of the Dane and he's been Spurs best player this season and a fixture in my team since GW1 but he was the worst player on the pitch last night. He does have a bit of a history of not showing up in the big matches and with Spurs tougher upcoming schedule I am now thinking the unthinkable and will probably lose him from my team. He just looks tired and was clearly off the pace. It wouldn't surprise me to see him rested or at least his minutes managed over the busy festive schedule and with tough fixtures coming up there is better value elsewhere.

Attack - Llorente had a decent game but he is always going to be a bit part player. Kane was relatively quiet but was instrumental in the RM own goal and but for two world class saves by Navas would have had a brace on the night. It's a brave manager who gets rid of him.

Disagree with aurier becoming first pick. So glad I picked Trippier over Davies not too long ago, he's had the games and done well...can only see Trippier starting more in the league

I think the fact that Aurier has started ahead of Trippier in every game he has been available for suggests there must be some doubt regarding Trippier's primacy. I still think Trippier could be a good pick as he will get the easier matches where he racks up the points. Poch does love to rotate his WBs though so no-one is nailed.

But Aurier has only taken part in two Premier League matches so far - GW5 and GW6.
In GW5, Aurier played 27 minutes while Trippier played the full 90.
In GW6, Aurier played 69 minutes before his red card but Trippier only played 12.
In GW8, according to Sadio Sane, Aurier was on the bench while Trippier played the full 90 minutes.

So your assertion that Aurier has started ahead of Trippier in every game he has been available appears to be based on just one Premier League match (GW6) plus a few non-Premier League matches.

Yeah, I'm also considering shipping Eriksen next week partially for the same reasons, partially to fund Vardy to Morata! 9.7m is a lot in a midfield asset over those fixtures who is looking a little lethargic as you elaborate on!
Prob a brace and 3 bonus V Pool then 🙂

Yeah, looks good but think I'll hold Jesus as I feel he's still value even if his misses out on minutes.
Will likely go Eriksen + Vardy to Richarison + Morata

He always does. Unfortunately last night it was mainly chasing the player he'd just lost the ball to. It may well have been a one off and if I get rid of him it will certainly be temporary but he does have lengthy quiet periods when he goes off the boil. There is a myth that Eriksen is consistent but Alli is explosive whereas the opposite is true http://whogottheassist.com/decision-time-eriksen-v-alli-and-mkhi-v-pogba/

Interesting re Eriksen and potentially being a flat track bully, as I do recall barren spells from him and maybe Dele is just due a spell of points over him now. I'm looking for a Pool mid for GW10 and he can be downgraded to any of them.

I have trouble accepting the uncertainty over Ben Davies starting games.

He has missed 2 PL games; Swansea(H) in GW5 and Bournemouth(H) in GW8. The Swansea game followed an away trip to Everton in which he provided 2 assists in a 0-3 win, and a vital CL game against Borussia Dortmund midweek which Spurs also won. Pochetino rested Davies for Swansea in what would have been his 3rd game in a week, as a nod to how tiring the wingback role is. We know that he missed the GW8 game due to illness.

When we consider that Spurs spluttered as an attacking force in both the PL games Davies missed (0-0 and 1-0), and factor in the attacking returns Davies has directly contributed, I'd be amazed if Pochetino doesn't now regard Davies as his first choice LWB.

I'm not sure what is going to happen with Rose. I'm expecting him to be given the League Cup fixtures and show that he's back to his previous best. He's been out an awful long time.

If you're selling Davies because of Spurs' tricky fixtures, fine, but let's not dress this up as his starting spot being under threat.

Would be hesitant to sell Vardy with a new manager coming in.

Teams under a new manager often have a quick upturn in form.

True but for me, Vardy's complete and instant transformation under Shakespeare hints that he was very much "his player".

Makes me wonder how he will react.

I have similar fears and wonder if there will be added pressure on the new man to finally bed Iheanacho in - from what I've seen so far, they don't gel well together.

The main issue for me regarding Leicester is a complete lack of central midfield creativity . Vardy's goal scoring chances are few and far between ( even less so than previously).

With Spurs and Chelsea next up after HUD, I see more value in getting Morata and reassessing when MUN fixtures turn

I'm totally confused by Spurs defensive options.
      1. Will Bavies be dropped for Rose
      2. Will Trippier be dropped for Aurier

Aurier in his last 2 games recieved a red card and conceded a penalty.
its driving me nuts as Bavies and Trip are fpl gold. Come on Poch, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

I think Trippier and Davies remain first choice but I think Rose and Aurier will start getting the "easier" fixtures.

Davies will still get 1 in 4 starts for me, perhaps 1 in 5 but much depends on whether Rose comes in and impresses, which he could, very easily.

He's a great option, has been very unlucky. There are fine margins between a mega haul and no points, i don't have him but every match i see he's close to a goal or assist.

Who to get as a replacement for Kolasinac?

          A - Jones (+0.7 mil)
          B - Stones (+0.4 mil)
          C - Otamendi (+0.3 mil)

Also consider Daniels, who is due to drop to 4.8 and has great fixtures from GW11.

Might do the same with Bellerin soon but he has been passing the eye test and I kinda want to keep him! But I've watched Kola closely over the last couple and I'd be happy to ditch him.

          1. Is Moreno decent pick ?
          2. Is Hunemeier good pick for bench ?
          3. Is Mariappa good pick for bench ?

Moreno does look a good pick, yes. However, I didn't have much joy owning him a couple of seasons ago, which I'm not sure I'm entirely over!

I'm getting him on my current WC. 2 Home fixtures in the next 4. Conceded 2-3 goals only at Anfield.

            He s 4.5 and attacks

          Elliot
          Davies Luiz VVD
          Coutinho Silva Sterling RLC
          Kane Jesus Vardy

          (Elliot Carroll Wimmer TC)

Saving FT and reassessing the striker situation next week the best option?

          Also who to start:

          A) RLC (new)
          B) Carroll (LEI)
          C) Wimmer (BOU)

          Appreciate your thoughts! 🙂

Yes, I think I'd probably save if I was in your situation.

Out of those three, I'd be tempted by C.

My thinking behind RLC & Elliot is atleast maybe one of them can get something?

I don't think Leicester are that good without Drinkwater and Kante tbh, minus the new manager boost of 5 or 6 games they got under Shakespeare their record has been dreadful

Vardy is not the problem, it's rest of the team, midfield lacking and Vardy does not look like he's going to get the supply! I'm 90% on getting rid next week. 7 points from 3 games for me doesnt cut the mustard!!

Who else is tempted by Salah > Sterling?

                          Say Aye!

Was close doing it last week and I regret it. Keeping him Salah for now

Good fixtures coming up and his performance yesterday was amazing. If you don't have any other City options then maybe I would do it

                            Did that move last week.

It's a massive yes from me

                          Davies > Cédric
                          Eriksen > Sterling
                          J Rodriguez > Jesus
                          Kane > Morata

                          Worth -8? Hehe

                            Not a spurs fan? hehe

I would keep Kane, the rest seems fine 🙂

Play Fabs LEI (H) or Elliot CRY (H)? Feel like the Chelsea win could be the start of a Palace renaissance.

toss a coin. mahrez or zaha could ruin either clean sheet in a second.
ok off the fence, elliot, just just just
