Dugout Discussion – West Ham vs Brighton

A third Friday night kick-off of the season brings us to the London Stadium and a Gameweek 9 opener between West Ham and Brighton.

Sadly, the Fantasy interest in this fixture is somewhat limited.

The Hammers defence has kept three clean sheets in their last five Gameweeks, but that’s not been enough to keep left-back Aaron Cresswell in the starting XI.

Arthur Masuaku has been pushing for inclusion in recent Gameweeks, with impressive cameos from the bench that have brought two assists. He gets the nod tonight, with Cresswell dropping to the bench.

Elsewhere, Chicharito’s start always looked guaranteed once he was declared fit with Andy Carroll suspended. The Mexican – who is still owned by 15.7% – looks to be the lone striker in a 4-2-3-1, with an attacking trio of Michail Antonio, Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic patrolling behind.

Meanwhile Brighton – who make their second appearance on a Friday night – boast the 14.7% owned Pascal Gross.

He gained an assist at Bournemouth on his last Friday outing and has remained integral for the Seagulls, earning another assist in Sunday’s draw with Everton. He’s been involved in 83% of Brighton’s goals when on the pitch.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm trying to ignore it, at least with those players they already went up a bit so will stills be able to transfer to good players

Right, so I was tempted to WC last week but feel there will be a greater degree of certainty over this coming week. Long-ish post here, but would appreciate opinions.

    My current team is:

    Foster* / Elliot
    Alonso / Jones / Mee / Wimmer* / Mbemba*
    Eriksen / Salah / Sterling / Gross / Carroll
    Kane / Lukaku / Abraham

*Foster is pants. I want to get DDG and leave. Mbemba's playing days are over & although Wimmer has good fixtures, Stoke fans have been pretty unhappy with him. I get nervous every time the teamsheet pops up and feel he could be dropped (temporarily).

Now my MIDs are okay, but I do slightly prefer Richarlison to Gross & RLC to Carroll. I gain can 0.1 on Gross over this GW, however. As for Kane & Lukaku, I feel like Aguero & Morata could be better-value picks.

So, to avoid being priced out, I could WC to the following team tonight:

    DDG / Elliot
    Alonso / Jones* / Ward / Fernandez / Moreno*
    Eriksen / Richarlison* / Sterling / Gross* / RLC
    Aguero / Morata / Abraham

*Moreno is a placeholder for Daniels, who could drop 0.1 (but is also an alright pick). Jones could be switched to Stones, if I didn't fancy a United double-up for the next few fixtures. I would move Salah to Richarlison to nab his rise (Salah may fall, and Gross will gain 0.1 for me). By the end of the week, I would switch back to Salah. Strikers as per above.

By the deadline, I would have a team of:

    DDG / Elliot
    Alonso / (Jones/Stones) / Daniels / Ward / Fernandez
    Eriksen / Salah / Sterling (Richarlison/Gross/Choupo) / RLC
    Aguero / Morata / Abraham.

    Yay or nay? 🙂

Wouldn’t it be great if Kun and/or Jesus were season keepers like Kane Morata and Lukaku

Just know which ever I get I’ll have to watch them get benched now and again which makes captaining one very risky

Before the car accident, Kun was playing every game and usually 90 so I think he'll become a safe captain option again.

Not really because we're only allowed 3 strikers and then there would be 4+ season keepers by your theory

    1 FT

Still got my wildcard to play. Team value ridiculously low though.

Probably worth pocketing the transfer next week even if the mids and sub defenders need sorting?

I remember him most for his time with Norwich. He's deserved better than he's got a lot of the time. Hope they're OK - some of the teams at the bottom this season are particularly dire, wouldn't surprise me if they survive.

He took a lot of sh*t at Norwich for playing pretty much the same way he’s playing with Brighton now. The difference is Norwich we’re pragmatic and still conceding goals whereas Brighton look really solid and have that extra bit of quality up top with Groß and Knockaert.

Yeah it was Norwich, thanks. He certainly likes this 4411 formation and perhaps he has the right personnel with Brighton to get the results.

Hoolahan didn't seem consistent enough for it to work with Norwich.

Have 3 Spurs not in the best fixtures plus a rotation risk after few weeks makes cash in 0.2 profit from him? Alternatives?

Try taking out the players you 100% don't want to keep and replacing them with the cheapest alternatives you can find and club the money together to put him into your 3rd striker spot.

But his price isn't going to move. You can then put Firmino in for Kane or Lukaku once you've made a descision on which one to keep.

Tip: Don't make transfers forced upon by price changes. I based my entire first half of season last year on catching the price rises and dodging the price falls, and I hovered around 1.5m. Get in the players who will score the most points over the next few fixtures, don't get in a player just for the sake of them rising in price, or sell a player because they are falling. In the end, you win FPL by getting the most points, not by getting the highest team value.

Well, the thing is if you feel they'll bring you in points AND you can catch a few price rises it's a perfect situation.Let's say going for Xhaka after GW1 was wrong. Going after Mkhitarian when he was rising was OK as he was bringing in points too. Now Richarlison looks a good pick for both in the next few weeks

I agree up to a point. I'm doing the same this season and ignoring prices completely.

Last season I was around 1.5m for ages and only a kane inspired late burst got me 100k get late on.

This season is my best start ever inside 20k.

The question is if I have less cash come March will I be able to afford a late charge like that? Wait and see I guess....

I have just enough money to do lukaku/Richie to Aguero/Richarlison. After tonight I can't afford it without a hit. Yay or Nay?

If Richarlison rises tonight, I can't do my ideal transfer to get him in, do I gamble on doing it now in the hope that he doesn't get injured vs Chelsea?

I think I'm going to go for it, if he does get injured (chances are slim) I doubt we'll loose any value as he'll gain 0.1m tonight, so will only probably drop down 0.1m back to the price we got him for, good luck with what you decide & for GW9!

Can someone explain Aguero in the scout picks for me? With zero minutes since his car accident, the Scouts have the confidence to pick him as a starter?

"Gabriel Jesus was under consideration, but we are concerned about his minutes with a likely first start for Sergio Aguero (11.5) since returning to the squad last week after recovering from a rib injury."

Is this what I should be reading?

me neither! I don't think I've ever seen the scout picks go maverick before. In fact, it's usually a case that they err on the side of caution.

The Argentine is just one goal away from City’s all-time scoring record, and we feel that Pep Guardiola may well give him every opportunity to reach the milestone on home turf against the Clarets.

Burnley’s underlying defensive statistics are further indication of another handsome City victory; while Sean Dyche’s side have only allowed six goals, they have allowed more shots on goal (155) than any other side.

Do you know what it looks like to me, you know you get those old boys down the bookies who are on a losing run on the horses, they always chase that next big win to try and bail them out but it never comes, they just end up falling further in the crap.

Not sure who influenced the picks this week but can't believe it was Jonty as he's doing well.

The picks are selected via choices in our scout squad committee.

This week Paul and mark had Aguero as their top choice striker while peter and myself went for Jesus, but lower down our pecking order.

That’s why we went for Aguero in the picks.

Who knows peter and I may be proved right or wrong.

I think the Scout Picks are trying to do exactly that.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Aguero stays on the bench and plays the league cup game next week.

Annoying as I would like Richa for him who is rising tonight, but don’t want to use both my FTs as I’m not that settled on both transfers. Grrr

Also I have a weak bench so will have to replace him this GW.

It's a massive night for TVs and risk- vs non-risk taking players taking. There's about 6-7 crucial players changing in price. A good time to wildcard as well.

This. Im hoping to get a 0.1 rise for Aguero/Sterling/Richarlison. Also took out Kane so will prob avoid the 0.1 drop. May get caught out on a Bavies 0.1 drop too though. Swings and Roundabouts.
