The Weekend Team News

Spurs are dealt a massive blow as Harry Kane is ruled out of their trip to Manchester United. West Brom have concerns at the back ahead of a home clash with league leaders Man City, while Bournemouth have mixed news up front as Chelsea roll up to the Vitality Stadium. Here’s our round-up of the team news so far, with eleven press conferences still to come today.

Earlier this morning, Spurs confirmed that Harry Kane has a minor strain to his left hamstring after undergoing assessments.

With a Champions League clash against Real Madrid in midweek, Mauricio Pochettino admitted that his star striker will miss tomorrow’s crucial trip to Old Trafford.

“We cannot take a risk for tomorrow, we’ll see after for Wednesday (v Real Madrid). But tomorrow, it is impossible.”

Fernando Llorente or Son Heung-min will now lead the Spurs attack at Old Trafford, with Pochettino perhaps set to field a 3-4-2-1 formation.

Meanwhile, United’s first-choice centre-halves Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, along with Marcus Rashford, were all pictured back in training yesterday.

Arsene Wenger has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the home encounter against Swansea City.

Martin Olsson is almost certain to miss out for the Swans due to a hamstring injury, while Renato Sanches and Wilfried Bony remain sidelined.

James McArthur and Chung-yong Lee are both doubtful for Crystal Palace’s home fixture against West Ham United due to knocks.

Georginio Wijnaldum has recovered from a knee injury, and is fit to return for Liverpool’s home meeting with Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers’ Elias Kachunga has trained all week following a back injury, and is available for the Anfield clash. Collin Quaner has a chance of being involved after stepping up his recovery from a calf injury.

Roberto Pereyra will miss Watford’s home clash against Stoke City due to a hamstring injury, while Sebastian Prodl and Younes Kaboul remain out.

Peter Crouch (back) is a slight doubt for the Potters, while Bruno Martins Indi remains sidelined.

Tony Pulis will be without Craig Dawson (knee) and James Morrison (achilles) for the home encounter with Manchester City. Gareth Barry (hamstring) and Jonny Evans (groin) remain concerns for the Baggies.

Jermain Defoe is back in training following a hamstring injury and “should be fine” for Bournemouth’s home match with Chelsea, according to Eddie Howe. Josh King has recovered from illness but is now doubtful due to a back problem, while Ryan Fraser will be assessed after picking up a knock in midweek.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche revealed Chris Wood is “touch and go” for the Monday night meeting with Newcastle United due to a hamstring injury, but Sam Vokes could return following an abdominal strain.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this tomorrow’s 11.30am deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from today’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Even with a broken Kane, it feels like I'll be starting the week 4+ points clear of a few million people lol.

Looking at the free hit, what value do we put on it for a small DGW or reduced fixtures week? Around 25-30 points on the basis that you will probably get 6/7 more players than you would otherwise at around 4 points per player? Trying to decide whether I can put together a team to outscore my current crop by that kind of amount

20+ is what Im valuing my free hit chip.

I just can't see a FH team adding 20 points to what I currently have. Having a united and a spurs defender this week has become more appealing than it was a couple of hours ago, couldn't afford to get Alexis in...

Thats why I plan to use it in blank gameweek. Should get me 20 points at least while not destroying my team.

Yeah same. I remember going with 8 (I think) in the Everton v Bournemouth GW last season and then having to spend a few weeks getting rid of players I didn't want. On that basis, it was probably worth even more than 20 points

Idea for a new use of the free hit chip; a week when Kane is temporarily injured, Sterling and Aguero won't play, and my subs are Carroll, Fernandez and Mbemba.

What is usually the minimum amount of time for hamstring to heal?

If he is out for 2 GWs I may take him out but if it is just this one then I may just bench

Is Carroll your best sub? Assuming you are referring to Tom and not Andy?

Will you be planning to bring Kane back for next week, as if so then you effectively need the player you bring in to score 8 more than you think Carroll will to break even.

      1. Going Home
        • 12 Years
        6 years, 5 months ago

Amazes me how few people see this. If your sub is a starter, and you plan to bring back Harry immediately, you need the replacement to score 6 points minimum (10 if you had another change planned for next week)

That’s not a comparison most people would make. There’s 3 million between them.

You need to factor in what that extra 3 million gets you elsewhere.

      Note: I have them both.

    4. Aarono23
      • 8 Years

If purely based between the two individuals then Salah easily.

If you are taking into account price differences and what the extra funds could get you elsewhere, then depends on where you spend those extra funds and the rest of your team.

My biggest annoyance with this is, what if I want to make a permanent change to take advantage of a player rising in value and also play my FH? Why can't I lock that in but still play the FH?
