The Community Round-Up

Second guessing Pep Guardiola’s starting XI dominates much of the discussion this week as the Spaniard continues to torment us with his teamsheet tinkering. Our Hot Topic posters also find time to discuss whether to hitch a ride on Jose Mourinho’s bus and mull over Harry Kane solutions, while our community scribes analyse the different ways teams build their attacks.

We also welcome back one of last season’s most popular community article series, sift through the best defensive statistics and find out who has got the measure of the Manchester City line-up at the top of our community leagues.

The Community Articles

This week saw the welcome return of YMA’s look at how form and fixture data can help pick the best captain for the next set of fixtures, with Sergio Aguero among the key players to consider for the armband according to his Gameweek 10 preview.

Manchester City assets are also under scrutiny in André94PT’s analysis of the different ways Premier League teams attack, and in Hutch_Jameslatest crowd predictions.

Meanwhile, Sky Blues rotation produced mixed results in Gameweek 9 for the Career Hall of Fame top five being tracked by Top Marx.

Elsewhere, Niemi dropped by with the latest news on team form in the Norwegian top flight, as Fantasy Eliteserien nears its nail-biting conclusion.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

While City’s excellence in attack is not in dispute, what is troubling our community is how much pitch-time their assets will be given.

As our Gameweek 9 rough with the smooth round up of your highs and lows revealed, many were caught out by some surprise omissions from Pep Guardiola’s starting XI last weekend.

We canvassed your views on how you plan to deal with the heavy threat of rotation that looms over City assets, while Ktk Interista attempted to find some method in their manager’s team tinkering. In addition, Ludo’s analysis of Pep’s team sheets left us in no doubt that the Spaniard simply doesn’t care about our Fantasy teams.

The community feels they have a better steer on how City’s rivals Manchester United will set up ahead of the visit of Spurs this Saturday and a trip to Chelsea the following weekend.

Eden Wizard has strong reason to believe Jose Mourinho will be eschewing attack and is  preparing the biggest bus he can find to stop Spurs, although following today’s revelation of Harry Kane’s absence, maybe even Jose will consider changing tact.

But even if the Red Devils may take a more defensive approach, The Twelfth Man believes that Romelu Lukaku owners should keep hold of him, particularly with Kane injured, while unlike City options, the Belgian is at least guaranteed to start.

Among the teams to see an upturn in fortunes from Gameweek 10 is Watford, which has prompted considerable interest in their Brazilian sensation Richarlison, who has scored three times and assisted a further four this season. But while he earned considerable praise on our latest Scoutcast, we asked whether you think he is the real deal.

The young winger also earns a mention in VK’s discussion on the perfect midfield and Pukka–Geoffs Hot Topic on the increasing competition for midfield places in our Fantasy line-ups.

We also found time to discuss Kane’s dazzling display against Liverpool in Gameweek 9, when he broke his league hoodoo at Wembley by scoring twice. With strong underlying statistics over his barren ‘home’ run, we asked whether Sunday’s turnaround was a victory for number crunching analysis.

But, of course, Kane will sit out Gameweek 10 which today sparked much discussion on possible solutions. First our Hot Topic asked for your plans in light of his absence. Then chatter turned to the Free Hit chip as a possible solution. Tears for Fers turned up to clarify the rules, while Musicholic offered an example of how the chip can impact squad value and budget while active.

Finally, our Live Hall of Fame has been updated to take into account Gameweek 9’s scores, and it revealed that a former number one is staging a dramatic march back to the top.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members’ Tables

Had enough of Ben Davies failing to make the first XI? Electrue understands your pain and has been taking a look at some replacements to consider.

But those shopping for an alternative to the Spurs defender are urged to steer clear of those highlighted in dingo 1982’s dreadful defences table.

There is further rearguard analysis in Montafly’s comparison of Liverpool and Burnley assets, with both teams having a raft of budget defenders to consider.

Jurgen Klopp’s troops also come under the gaze of Dexter4king, who is in search of their best midfield options.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Fabio Borges has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season league, as well as the summit in the FFS Members League, while Damir TeNay still leads the main FFS league and is seventh in the overall standings.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing, the safety score was 39, which saw 202 players depart and over 2,600 remain.

FC Lackless retains top spot in QPR Utd’s FFS Frequent Summer Posters league, and in the FFS Old Farts Club league, PDM has a commanding 21-point lead over second-placed Ross Graham.

Uwais Ahmed remains first in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league, with Stilicho’s ghost ship team docked in second.

In Heels Over Head’s R U Smarter than 10K Club, for those who have never finished so high, Bargain Hunters is in the lead. Heels Over Head also issued a plea for community members to take part in his expanded draft competition.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-Ups, please email us summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head-to-head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Sold him for Morata. Poch has a history or down playing injuries and I’m not letting 1/8 of my budget sit on the bench. Having Eriksen makes it easier too. If I get burned next week so be it

Has anyone attempted to calculate what the expected added value of playing your free chip is?

I've been aiming for 20 points extra in RMT compared to my old/existing team. I have only managed ~+15, but I'll make the case to myself and anyone who's reading anyway FOR playing my free hit now and not in the mini GW...

    1) I believe that a 4 fixture mini GW is a rarity, you're more likely to have ~6 fixtures. Getting 11 players from 6 fixtures should be no issue, I had 9/10 last year without King and still had a good GW.
    2) You are also less likely to be able to spend your budget on one of these mini GWs. Not that price = points, but there is obviously a correlation.
    3) Teams will be more standardised. They already are but there's punts like Sanchez & Hazard to be had.

    1. Kevtheotter

There will be multiple DGWs though. Can be used there also. I get your logic but I’d rather take -8 than play it this week.

    2. GuyIncognito
      • 14 Years
      6 years, 6 months ago

It's hard to calculate because it has value over multiple gws. People are ignoring the possibility of using it for a DGW but I think that might actually be a good idea depending on the situation because it means you don't suffer the same sort of GW33 rank drop.

You will surely want BB and TC for 2 of the DGWs, no?

        1. GuyIncognito
          • 14 Years
          6 years, 6 months ago

TC yes because you aren't losing anything by using it. Like, let's say Kane has Stoke (H) Everton (H) in a DGW you are going to have him anyway so the TC comes at no cost.

BB I'm not convinced is actually that good because people wreck their teams to bring in goofball bench players who are punts to do anything even in a DGW. So you might gain 10 points for the DGW but you lose points in the weeks surrounding it because those moves are only optimal for one week. That said, BB would be god-mode if we have a week of fixtures called off for weather or security reasons.

Generally there is too much focus imo in the FPL community on getting one massive gw score rather than steady consistent points. This also affects how people rate players like Eriksen and KDB who get you 6-7-6 rather than 2-12-2.

Accidentally pressed submit. Another point specifically on Kane, the avoidance of -4/-8 for many to perform a hokey cokey either next week or within the next 2/3 GWs. This is less likely to be an issue later in the season, when you are very unlikely to have an 'essential' player getting an injury perfectly synced with the mini GW.

      1. Last year you say you had 9/10 players but I'm sure at least 3 of those players were bought just for that GW and maybe 2 taken out after that.... that's 5 wasted FTs......
I ratea FTs at 4 points each so thats 20 points before the GW stsrts

How the hell am I supposed to be able to fit Sanchez into my team! Do we need to? I'm inclined to think much of his success as an fpl asset last term was down to playing a lot of the season up front. There is no way you can fit him into your team without making massive sacrifices elsewhere, and surely there is better value out there. I personally cannot see myself getting him in the near future, or at any point this season, unless he becomes 'consistently explosive'. It's decisions like this that could make or break your season, what a potential differential (and captain) option he could be, but my decision is ultimately down to a loss of confidence in Arsenal, just don't have any faith in them anymore, Barcelona 1 week, Nuneaton the next. Don't think they will make top 4 this season, again, Wenger is taking them backwards, slowly, but surely. What are your thoughts? Will you be getting him in? Do you have faith in Arsenal?

It is hard to fit him in I was assuming you had a big front 3 where you could downgrade your 3rd forward and use the money to upgrade to Sanchez. With your team wouldn't worry about Sanchez looks like a very nice team foster has tough fixtures coming up maybe get rid of him?

Those that sold Kane, would you be happy not owning him vs Arsenal in GW12?

For those that don't own Lukaku along with Kane, who would be your priority to get in?

Priority would be Kane over lukaku. And I don't mind not owning for gw12 but I will be worried not owning for gw11 and defintely going to make sure I have him from gw13 onwards

How long you reckon Kane's out for Rainer?

Touch & go for Palace I reckon. Lose vs United and Real and Poch might feel forced to play him... Also, a nice game for him to sit out and have an 'IB injury' too.

Ah bollocks, really should have sold. Did you sell in the end?

Ummmm, any chance it might be Poch mind games ahead of Utd, and he will play? 😀

Okay, I'm now convinced Sanchez will be on the bench tomorrow after seeing him with the black bib on. Doing digging through previous sessions those with the black bib are always on the bench.

I don't think the bib theory was 100% correct last time few weeks back. Sanchez will start.

Anything worth a hit? Might be able to just squeeze out 11 starters. 0.1 ITB. Bench order is key this week. Everything in order?

    Elliot
    Mee-Alonso-Cresswell
    Richarlison(C)-Gross-Salah-Eriksen
    Vardy-Kun-Kane

    Foster; Mbemba-TC-Naughton

    Thanks for the help all.

Kane > Aguero/Jesus/Morata (for a hit) or rely on T Carroll/RLC first on bench?

In the end I kept Kane and did Davies & Sterling > Ward & Salah for -4pts.

      But now regretting it......

The SCENES on here tomorrow when the City line up is released and upfront it's:

    B.Silva | Sterling | Sane

Can see it happening, and I own both Aguero and Jesus

Haha. We never know. Tomorrow it can easily either be:

      Sane- Jesus- Sterling
      Sterling- Aguero- Sane
      Sterling-Aguero- Jesus
      Sane- Jesus- B.Silva

      Phew it goes on ......
