The Community Round-Up

Wildcard timing, the form of premium strikers and the fallout from the international break dominate this week’s discussions as the community eagerly anticipates the return of domestic action.

Our round-up also takes in the latest community articles, with our resident scribes full of advice on the best players to hand the captaincy to and where to find clean sheets in Gameweek 12.

Meanwhile, our Members’ Area statisticians have been busy gathering the latest data on teams with a strong run of fixtures over the coming weeks.

The Community Articles

The form and fixture data, analysed by YMA, strongly backs Harry Kane for the armband ahead of the Spurs striker’s trip to Arsenal. However, as the Career of Fame hall of fame top five, being tracked by Top Marx, found out in Gameweek 11 when he blanked at home to Crystal Palace, it can be costly to put too much faith in the Spurs talisman.

The crowd are also anticipating strong attacking returns from Spurs, but believe only one team is capable of keeping a clean sheet over the next set of fixtures, says Hutch_James.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Among the key lessons learned from our analysis of the Hall of Fame top ten managers is that Wildcard timing is key, with those who used this chip early missing out on Manchester City’s upturn in form.

Dugout followed this up by inviting Fantasy managers to take part in his survey of their ranks and when they played their Wildcard. After sifting through around 100 responses, he has been able to reveal whether the wider community’s experience mirrored that of this elite group.

All of the Hall of Fame top ten have kept their Free Hit chip in their pocket, with a deployment around the second half of the season blank fixtures likely. But Rhinos wonders whether using them during a double Gameweek may prove more lucrative.

Key issues for those Wildcarding this week, according to Jacky Boy, include whether to seize the opportunity to triple up on the array of premium strikers who have strong fixtures on the horizon.

Among those under consideration is Manchester United marksman Romelu Lukaku, who has split the community between those who have been left unimpressed by his failure to find the net since Gameweek 7, and those who think he will return to form in style with Newcastle’s visit.

Manchester City’s strike duo of Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero are also among the heavy-hitters under consideration. But when we asked for your views on the best Sky Blues cover it is their midfield where most of the interest lies.

Rotation is a key factor when deciding on which of Pep Guardiola’s troops to pick and, as FPL Freddo pointed out, this makes it difficult to captain their Argentine forward in particular.  Hobolicious is also unsure whether Aguero is worth handing the armband to this season.

There has been less chat this week around Kane, with his team-mate Christian Eriksen instead attracting attention as his hat-trick against Ireland took Denmark to the World Cup in Russia next year. Jinswick wonders whether the 70,000+ FPL managers to ditch the midfielder may regret that move in light of his international exploits.

Another player to catch the eye on international duty is Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, who impressed in both England friendlies against Germany and Brazil. Wakey believes the defender could be a strong option for home games, particularly as he looks set to continue at right-back with Nathaniel Clyne sidelined for another three months after undergoing back surgery this week.

The Reds defender was handed his England debut, against Germany, after coming on for the injured Phil Jones, who will out for Manchester United at home to Newcastle this weekend, according to Jose Mourinho. Given the previous concerns surrounding the centre-back’s fitness, we asked his owners whether he is still worth keeping ahead of the busy Christmas schedule.

With Crystal Palace’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek also impressing for England, we also canvassed your views on how Fantasy managers can best use the ‘eye-test’ to assess Fantasy potential.

The Community Tournaments

Matchweek 6 of the Community Watch tournament gets underway this weekend, according to Speedyboyzzzz’s latest update from the organising committee.

    My shambolic defensive squad is

    Mee Cedric Ota Suttner Mbemba

The last three won't play this week and the last two are deadwood. Thinking of ditching Suttner first. Daniels or Moreno to come in?

I would really love to get your thoughts on my dilemma. I've not been in this situation before.... I fear only having 6-8 players this weekend and that's including Tom Carroll. I've 0FT and 0.3 itb.

    Elliott Foster
    Moreno JONES OTAMENDI DAVIES MBEMBA
    Salah Richarlison Carroll STERLING ATSU
    Kane Morata AGUERO

How many hits should I take (-4, -8 or more) and in what order??
Think Davies and Sterling need to stay as there's still some possibility they'll play?!
I had planned Aguero to Lukaku, is this still viable?

Any help and advice you could offer would be much appreciated. Thanks very much!

Due to how bad it is I’d forget Kun>Kaku for now Kun could play and do well. Any money in the bank. You know mbemba wont play and with a busy fixture period coming he will keep being a problem replacing guarantees you another player then maybe a hit for another defender to ensure you field 11? I don’t know that’s some bad luck sorry

      omg

i guess wc is used? If not use it now!

Hm, i think Ota should stay as it is just one match. Sterling is fine, no need to fret about. Atsu could be upgraded to say Gross/Shaqiri or someone else in 5.5-6 bracket. Davies wil lplay tomorrow so need not be swapped out now (but maybe soon?) and Aguero is fit so i would (as i am) hope he plays. Jones is beginning to get difficult and it depends a little what you bought him in for, tricky this one. Hm, my thinking is this; Davies is clearly a rotation risk and the other is more or less nailed, and Ota back next and Jones is expected back also next week so if you downgrade say Davies to Dunk, that wil lgive 1.0-1.3 something in which you can turn Mbemba into a 4.5 defender from either Burnley/Bournemouth and Atsu to Gross, or you could say swap for Dann if you have the money? Could also get a cheaper than Gross, Chopo or Doucore but think Gross could be worth the outlay.

Stats are useful buy you need to use your own football brain and see what's happening on the pitch and the reasons why stats maybe slightly misleading in its detail but the broader picture is right and can not be argued too much after 11 GW's. A picture is forming

2 FT and nothing really major so sorting out Suttner now that he's looking at a second drop seems sensible. Looking at replacing with a nailed Brighton defender, is Duffy worth the extra 0.1 over Dunk?

Baps in favor of Duffy too, got Otamendi with 3YCs, got 0 point, 1 point with 2 ycs in two games he played for me. What a fecker, don’t want to experience this with Duffy also. 🙂

Yeah fair enough, it's more the 0.1 difference that I'm hung up on.

Pogba In anyone? Could potentially line up like this on wildcard.

        Speroni
        Daniels - Mee - Moreno - Duffy
        Salah - Sane - Pogba
        Kane - Lukaku - Morata

        Subs - Elliott - Dann - RLC - T Carroll

If you have cover on the bench for him, definitely not. He's an absolute gem when he's fit, so I would wait for more news regarding his injury status

He's back, was dropped for tactical reasons apparently - bit of knock too maybe.

Never take a hit for a def right? Well I just took a -12 for a keeper, two cheap defs and a cheap mid 🙂

Well done to my cup opponents but I reckon I'll do okay in the long run

        Foster - Pope
        Cedric - Daniels
        Jones - Moreno
        Brady - Richarlison

Dunno about losing the best value defender in the game but I like the other moves mate. Carnage this week. I'm not taking a hit for once

Yeah Risky, but Jones is an ongoing problem and can't see it being viable to stick over Xmas

Best option to play with Daniels and Ward in defence. (Other defenders Fernandez Jones BDavies)

        A Fernandez
        B BDavies
        C Duffy for BDavies (-4)
        D Smalling for Jones (-4)
        E Gomez for Jones (-4)
