The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 12

Paul Pogba’s impact on his return has been instant, both on Manchester United and on Fantasy managers.

His double-figure return from a goal and assist against Newcastle United helped spark a revived attacking performance from Jose Mourinho’s side.

He set up Anthony Martial’s equaliser and reinvigorated Romelu Lukaku to snap a seven-match drought in a United shirt.

Pogba was cited as the inspiration for United’s devastating early season form and now, with the Frenchman back in the fold, we can only hope that Mourinho’s side will rekindle their relentless goal scoring exploits of the first five Gameweeks.

There are some who required little encouragement to invest in Pogba’s influence.

Having dropped back to his initial valuation of 8.0, he is already the top transfer target in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), claiming 55,000 new owners at the time of writing.

While impressive against the Magpies, this seems classic knee-jerk material, particularly with United’s fixtures soon stiffening and managers eyeing up a potential exit for Lukaku from Gameweek 14.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata will doubtless be the target as the striker’s replacement, with Spaniard doing little to put that trade in jeopardy with today’s performance at West Brom.

His eighth goal of the season, and fifth on his travels, took him to the top of the FPL forward standings.

Indeed, United’s rebirth as an attacking force coincided with another convincing display from Chelsea in which Morata and, in particular, Eden Hazard again sparkled.

Pushed up in a central role in tandem with the striker, the Belgian is beginning to convince as a midfield heavy-hitter.

But unlike Morata, Hazard remains on the periphery of our thinking.

Part of just 5% of squads, his net ownership actually dropped ahead of today’s 18-point haul as he struggles to convince managers to make him part of their plans.

Even now, hours after his Hawthorns performance, Pogba, Leroy Sane and Mohamed Salah are all enjoying greater transfer traffic than a player who amassed 224 points last season – Hazard’s third tally over 200 points in his five-season FPL career.

Maybe our standards and expectations have altered.

While Morata can be eased into our line-ups in a swap for one of the rotating Man City strikers or a stuttering Harry Kane and Lukaku, Hazard requires major surgery in an area of our squads well served by cheaper and more consistent performers.

The aforementioned Salah continues to run riot, producing 16 points to top the overall standings. Sane, meanwhile, kept ticking over with an assist in Man City’s victory at the King Power Stadium.

Pogba has rapidly rejoined this contingent of midfielders threatening to better the likes of Hazard and certainly Alexis Sanchez, as our perception of what constitutes a midfield heavy-hitter is challenged.

I don’t doubt that Hazard will have more to say on this but, for now, it’s Pogba’s potential that has convinced Fantasy managers to act.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Patience is one thing but Vardy needs to go now!

Vardy + Gross to Morata + RLC (-4)

    ...decent move?

Vardy's fixtures are getting better but Morata is the got property. Considering form and fixtures, Morata/Hazard is a must

I have owned Hazard for a while and brought Morata in this week with a view at the upcoming fixtures.

If you can afford to wait a week and avoid the hit I would, Morata facing a resilient Liverpool defence at Anfield and Vardy facing a David Moyes West Ham team, only thing is price rise/fall to contend with.

No unfortunately, Gross is at OT next game week and RLC plays Swansea so it might work out ok.
Between him and Richarlison and I think I'd rather keep Richarlison. Thanks though mate.

    Tom Carroll to Pogba

    Firmino to Niasse

    Good moves?

Niasse would just be used now and again, would be 352.

    Sterling, Eriksen, Salah, Pogba, Richarlison.

    Kane, Morata (Niasse)

Hard to say. TAA was used for CL whilst Gomez was banned from CL, but now I think both are fit and eligible. TAA didn’t have international games so maybe that’s why he got the nod?

Ok, decided to make moves for Hazard as opposed to Pogba initially. Only got .1 itb and 1FT so considering a hit for the following moves, I don't expect it to pay off initially but think it's a hit worth making or I'll be priced out.

    GW13
    Foster > Speroni
    Joselu > Niasse (-4)

Leave .1 for Hazard price rise this week then GW14
    Eriksen > Hazard

    Will give me

    Speroni, Elliot
    Alonso, Jones, Kolasinac, Mee, Mbemba
    Salah, Sterling, Hazard, Richarilson, RLC
    Kane, Morata, Niasse

Look ok ? Worth the hit ? Only thing that would stop it is a double price rise for Hazard this week but can't see it due to his high price and other managers opting for Pogba.

Good day to you Jafalad, you are right, I am certainly not a sheep lol, and generally a patient manager with players. I am however tired of Eriksen playing so deep for Spurs and don't see him offering the same returns as Hazard when I look at Chelsea's fixture list and Hazard/Chelsea's form. It's basically a case of stick with Eriksen and hope he delivers (we all know he is a quality player and will eventually get 'some' returns), or move to Hazard for a hit and enjoy that run of fixtures.

Really want Pogba in, think my options are:
    A) Sterling/Silva > Pogba
    B) Richarlison & Jones > Pogba & 4.7m
    C) Choupo-Moting & Jones > Pogba & 4.0m

    Rest of team is:

    Pope | Elliot
    Alonso | Jones | Daniels | Kiko | Naughton
    Salah | Sterling | Silva | Richarlison | Choupo-Moting
    Kane | Morata | Crouch

5 goals in 5 games or so at 4.9.

Wilson 3 goals in 2 games or so at 5.9.

Look similar to me. The issue with Niasse is continued gametime whereas Wilson will start every game.

Will he start every game though? Have to consider King, Afobe and Defoe as well. Everton really do not have such options. Rooney isn’t a pure striker anymore and Sandro is nowhere to be seen.

He does look ridiculous value at 4.9. If he's starting every game & being tee'd up by Siggy he should probably be minimum 6.5.

The things that would concern me though are #1 when things look too good to be true they often are, will a new manager drop him, will he get suspended for the dive etc

Certainly at the minute though he looks a great bench striker

He has a lot of cheaper competition - Pogba, Sterling, Sané for example - they won't be a million miles behind him (may even outscore him)

Not to mention Salah, Mané, Coutinho

And Morata is also a little cheaper for nailed Chelsea attacking slot

Salah Sane Pogba Richarlison Zaha Gross all look brilliant in mid already.. Whereas upfront Morata doesn't have much competition at his price and below. So it's probably that factor that's causing ppl to overlook hazard. Brilliant option though

Niasse or RLC as cheapest attacker. Different positions I know but it's more a 3-4-3 v 3-5-2 question

    A quick question -
How high can one expect to finish with a rank of lets say 400k after 12 gameweeks ?

    Thanks

One should expect to win FPL.

Even with 200 points behind the leader ?

Absolutely. You will close in on the leaders now with dgws, chips and that new chip. Just got to get the captain right on a consistent basis.
