The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 12

Paul Pogba’s impact on his return has been instant, both on Manchester United and on Fantasy managers.

His double-figure return from a goal and assist against Newcastle United helped spark a revived attacking performance from Jose Mourinho’s side.

He set up Anthony Martial’s equaliser and reinvigorated Romelu Lukaku to snap a seven-match drought in a United shirt.

Pogba was cited as the inspiration for United’s devastating early season form and now, with the Frenchman back in the fold, we can only hope that Mourinho’s side will rekindle their relentless goal scoring exploits of the first five Gameweeks.

There are some who required little encouragement to invest in Pogba’s influence.

Having dropped back to his initial valuation of 8.0, he is already the top transfer target in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), claiming 55,000 new owners at the time of writing.

While impressive against the Magpies, this seems classic knee-jerk material, particularly with United’s fixtures soon stiffening and managers eyeing up a potential exit for Lukaku from Gameweek 14.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata will doubtless be the target as the striker’s replacement, with Spaniard doing little to put that trade in jeopardy with today’s performance at West Brom.

His eighth goal of the season, and fifth on his travels, took him to the top of the FPL forward standings.

Indeed, United’s rebirth as an attacking force coincided with another convincing display from Chelsea in which Morata and, in particular, Eden Hazard again sparkled.

Pushed up in a central role in tandem with the striker, the Belgian is beginning to convince as a midfield heavy-hitter.

But unlike Morata, Hazard remains on the periphery of our thinking.

Part of just 5% of squads, his net ownership actually dropped ahead of today’s 18-point haul as he struggles to convince managers to make him part of their plans.

Even now, hours after his Hawthorns performance, Pogba, Leroy Sane and Mohamed Salah are all enjoying greater transfer traffic than a player who amassed 224 points last season – Hazard’s third tally over 200 points in his five-season FPL career.

Maybe our standards and expectations have altered.

While Morata can be eased into our line-ups in a swap for one of the rotating Man City strikers or a stuttering Harry Kane and Lukaku, Hazard requires major surgery in an area of our squads well served by cheaper and more consistent performers.

The aforementioned Salah continues to run riot, producing 16 points to top the overall standings. Sane, meanwhile, kept ticking over with an assist in Man City’s victory at the King Power Stadium.

Pogba has rapidly rejoined this contingent of midfielders threatening to better the likes of Hazard and certainly Alexis Sanchez, as our perception of what constitutes a midfield heavy-hitter is challenged.

I don’t doubt that Hazard will have more to say on this but, for now, it’s Pogba’s potential that has convinced Fantasy managers to act.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Upcoming FT is planned to be Kun>Morata, but going to hold firm & delay Until after the Friday deadline, giving Kun one more game. Promised myself I wouldn't take points hits during the busy season, by Friday evening will have 2x FT's with a midweek GW to follow & more fixtures again 3 days later.

So tempting to move early though, with Pogba, Morata, Hazard, Christensen, Daniels, Niasse, Wilson, Sterling, Sané, Silva on the "in" list.... and Kun, Chalobah, Jones, Naughton, Groß (and potentially Kaku now too) on the "out" list, with a great chance to take a 12 point hit & potentially build another 0.5-1.0 of TV!

Will take a more points vs. pounds approach for these few weeks & see how it goes

I presume a lot of folks will be in a similar scenario, lots of low ownership players suddenly looking great options, and high ownership players blanking, so it can be a good time to make up ground with hits, it's just a gamble

for attackers i think thats right
for defs who easily fall but not rise, i think you need to move to protects drops unless youve got a or a long term plan

i have to get rid of davies for example.......hes been trash, non regular starter and now hes losing value fast

Sometimes it's better to take one big hit than spread it out.

Gets you want to be so you can move forward with confidence.

If you can accept that if may be a minor setback than go for it, end of the day, 12 points is 12 poimts.

I'm in similar boat posted above but more my fault than bad luck. At least you still field a defence this week. Not the best fixtures but probably still pick up a clean sheet. I think Christensen is the best replacement medium-longer term but he doesn't have the best fixture this week either. If I were you I'd save if they both hold in price

Time to trade Kane? Has only produced returns in 33% of games this season!!!

doesnt mean it will continue. didnt happen last two seasons.

so all of a sudden he doenst become a rubbish striker. laws of logic says he will start scoring against them

Seriously if he can't score against West Brom something is seriously wrong!!!

Wind back 12 months and the same discussion was being had after B2B C blanks against Hull and Burnley with a missed pen against Southampton shortly after, remember it well, his lack of shots and playing deep was the major justification.

What happened next was brutal for sellers.

Who scores more in next 5?
    A. Vardy and TC
    B. Niasse and Pogba.

B requires a change in formation to 442 or 352 with niasse first sub.

    Elliot (hart)
    Alonso mee Daniels monreal otamendi
    Surman sterling ali zaha pogba
    Kane morata niasse

Look good for a -4? Or keep vardy and TC

Is Sterling to Sane for - 4 too sideways?? Sterling looked good against Lei.. Any other day could have had a goal or two.. But Sane seems so much more involved in every attack.. Plus his price rise tonight is bothering me.. Already pulled trigger on Kun - > Morata... Or shud i just dump city and go for Pogba instead.. Have Kaku..

Sane and Silva seems the best route to city attack at the moment.

Good morning gents. Has there been any news about the extent of Abrahams injury? Likely to miss out next weekend?

For me 90k is terrible. Anything below 10k is a failure.
