The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 12

Paul Pogba’s impact on his return has been instant, both on Manchester United and on Fantasy managers.

His double-figure return from a goal and assist against Newcastle United helped spark a revived attacking performance from Jose Mourinho’s side.

He set up Anthony Martial’s equaliser and reinvigorated Romelu Lukaku to snap a seven-match drought in a United shirt.

Pogba was cited as the inspiration for United’s devastating early season form and now, with the Frenchman back in the fold, we can only hope that Mourinho’s side will rekindle their relentless goal scoring exploits of the first five Gameweeks.

There are some who required little encouragement to invest in Pogba’s influence.

Having dropped back to his initial valuation of 8.0, he is already the top transfer target in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), claiming 55,000 new owners at the time of writing.

While impressive against the Magpies, this seems classic knee-jerk material, particularly with United’s fixtures soon stiffening and managers eyeing up a potential exit for Lukaku from Gameweek 14.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata will doubtless be the target as the striker’s replacement, with Spaniard doing little to put that trade in jeopardy with today’s performance at West Brom.

His eighth goal of the season, and fifth on his travels, took him to the top of the FPL forward standings.

Indeed, United’s rebirth as an attacking force coincided with another convincing display from Chelsea in which Morata and, in particular, Eden Hazard again sparkled.

Pushed up in a central role in tandem with the striker, the Belgian is beginning to convince as a midfield heavy-hitter.

But unlike Morata, Hazard remains on the periphery of our thinking.

Part of just 5% of squads, his net ownership actually dropped ahead of today’s 18-point haul as he struggles to convince managers to make him part of their plans.

Even now, hours after his Hawthorns performance, Pogba, Leroy Sane and Mohamed Salah are all enjoying greater transfer traffic than a player who amassed 224 points last season – Hazard’s third tally over 200 points in his five-season FPL career.

Maybe our standards and expectations have altered.

While Morata can be eased into our line-ups in a swap for one of the rotating Man City strikers or a stuttering Harry Kane and Lukaku, Hazard requires major surgery in an area of our squads well served by cheaper and more consistent performers.

The aforementioned Salah continues to run riot, producing 16 points to top the overall standings. Sane, meanwhile, kept ticking over with an assist in Man City’s victory at the King Power Stadium.

Pogba has rapidly rejoined this contingent of midfielders threatening to better the likes of Hazard and certainly Alexis Sanchez, as our perception of what constitutes a midfield heavy-hitter is challenged.

I don’t doubt that Hazard will have more to say on this but, for now, it’s Pogba’s potential that has convinced Fantasy managers to act.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Watford for sure. Not confident he will do much vs Leicester. I know he scored 4 in that fixture last season but Leicester were on the beach and Kane was shooting from everywhere just to get the golden boot.

      The great thing is he is also price protected until next Saturday night, so no risk of being priced out of him either. Really want to see Utd v Brighton to answer the following:

      - will Jones be back
      - has Lukaku remembered how to score again
      - is Pogba on pens
      - how will Ibra affect a Kaku

      Lukaku > Pogba & 5 man midfield while keeping Jones & DDG could be the best way to utilise Man Utd assets, allowing more funds for a Chelsea also

      Klavan & Kenny have caught my eye in the 4.3 bracket. Dunk is your man at 4.4. Then into all the usual suspects at 4.6 - Mee, Moreno, Gomez, Lawton, Tarkoski, Dann etc.

      Daniels at 4.8 looks a bargain if you fancy splashing the cash.

      Then if you're really flush - Phil Jones & Christensen are the rolls Royce models.

      Spending any more than 4.8 on a def now looks a bit silly with these cheaper options to be honest

        Personally disagree with the final statement. So many high quality reasonable priced mids and a lot of uncertainty with the strikers I feel like a well invested defence with a couple of cheap options is the best way to go.

    Hi,

    My current team:
    DDG, Elliot
    Kolasinac, Mee, Moreno, Mbemba, Davies
    DeBruyne,Salah,Richarlison,Gross,Carroll
    Kane,Lukaku,Diouf

    0,7 itb / 2ft

    I was quite happy with the team but I am thinking now it may be worth to WC.

    Kane->Morata
    Carroll->RLC
    Diouf -> Niasse
    Gross-> Pogba
    That gives 10.9 for Davies and Mbemba replacements

    And still question mark on Lukaku.

    Any thoughts?

    Many Thanks

      Hazard in particular has form for this. Although to be fair for those knee jerking, both Haz & Morata have a sea of green fixtures for weeks

    Booking and hamstrings cost me 11 points yesterday. No idea who’s a suitable Stones replacement either

    Like many I can see myself heading to 352 in the next few weeks.

    What is the consensus on the best 3rd striker sub 6m?

    Looking for someone who will play the majority of minutes.....they will spend a lot of time on my bench but will have to feature when rotation kicks in around Xmas..

    Wilson niasse Murray Abraham 3rd.. ..what is the view?

    Thanks

    DDG
    Jones, Daniels, Mee
    Salah, Sterling, Silva, Richarlison
    Kane, Morata, Vardy

    (Elliot, RLC, Hegazi, Mariappa)

    1 FT, 0.3 ITB:

    A) Sterling -> Pogba
    B) RLC & Vardy -> Pogba and Niasse (-4) (switch to 3-5-2)

    Cheers.

    Do we like either of these pro-Pogba routes?

    A) Vardy and RLC to Pogba and Niasse
    B) Sterling (or Silva) to Pogba

    I'm aware its jerky!

      I'm doing A with Carrol out

      Niasse should get a ban though. Depending on who is on the 3 man panel of course

    Would you hit he wildcard button to go from this:
    Foster - Myhill
    Jones - Daniels - Mee - Duffy - Goldson
    Salah - D.Silva - Sterling - Richarlison - T.Carroll
    Kane - Aguero - Abraham

    To this:
    Elliot - Speroni
    Jones - Daniels - Mee - Duffy - Dunk
    Hazard - Salah - Sane - Pogba - RLC
    Kane - Morata - Niasse

      Hopefully, if not he is part of my route to Pogba. If he is back, then it's either DDG (for Pope) or Kaku ( for Niasse, Wilson, Tammy etc) who makes way

    Have Kane Lukaku Jesus... a lot of people ditched them

    Wonder with will I harm them the most next week as a C?

    A) Kane
    B) Lukaku
    C) Jesus
