Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 12 – Sunday

Richarlison ends his Vicarage Road goal drought as Will Hughes catches the eye against West Ham. Elsewhere, the heroics of Heurelho Gomes helps the Hornets to a rare clean sheet as David Moyes’ tenure at West Ham begins with defeat.

Richarlison ends home drought

Such a reliable source of goals and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points on his travels, Richarlison finally found the net at home after failing to produce a single effort on target in his previous five at Vicarage Road.

Owned by 18%, the young Brazilian’s home output was of particular concern bearing in mind that his next two visitors are Manchester United and Spurs in Gameweek 14-15.

Yet Sunday’s strike maintained a remarkable run of consistency – he’s now delivered attacking points in six of the last seven Gameweeks ahead of next weekend’s trip to Newcastle United.

Heightening his appeal for that Magpies clash is that, away from home, Richarlison has averaged 7.2 points per match and is the league’s top player for shots inside the opposition box (20).

On the downside, he also has a testing trip to Burnley directly after those United and Spurs matches. But the case for holding is very convincing, with the fixtures turning in his favour from Gameweek 17 once again.

At a price of 6.5, Richarlison is now the top FPL midfielder for value in terms of points per million and sits fifth in the midfield standings on 66 points.

Despite that, his inability to claim bonus points continues to dent the South American’s captaincy potential. He has scored or assisted in eight of the first 12 Gameweeks but has earned bonus points on just two occasions.

Today’s BPS haul was limited by two shots off target and two fouls conceded, while he was also tackled twice.

Hughes impresses in tactical tweak

Handed a central support role alongside Richarlison as Marco Silva moved to 3-4-2-1 against the Hammers, Will Hughes overshadowed his more popular team-mate thanks to a goal, assist and maximum bonus.

But Watford’s form on the road suggests that Silva could revert to his usual 4-2-3-1 at St James’ Park – only Man City (16) and Chelsea (14) have scored more away goals than the Hornets’ 12.

Regardless of formation, Hughes (4.6) now looks likely to be on the teamsheet for the trip to Tyneside after months on the periphery.

Handed just 10 minutes in the opening 10 Gameweeks, Hughes has now started both of Watford’s last two. However, Roberto Pereyra made a return to the bench and replaced the former Derby County man late on; he will doubtless threaten Hughes’ start in weeks to come.

Andre Gray was again a starter up front as Troy Deeney served the second match in a three-match suspension. Gray’s scuffed assist for Hughes’ opener was his second in as many matches.

Gomes keeps it clean

Silva can thank Heurelho Gomes for their first clean sheet in eight attempts after he denied Cheick Kouyate and Marko Arnautovic with superb stops.

Indeed, David Moyes can at least take encouragement from the fact that his side had three big chances today – they had managed just six in their previous six road trips under Slaven Bilic.

For the hosts, the decision to bench Jose Holebas came as a surprise as Marvin Zeegelaar (4.4) earned his first outing of the season at left wing-back. Holebas had played every minute of the previous 10 matches he had been available for, only missing the Gameweek 3 encounter against Brighton due to suspension.

Ranked top for crosses (82) and successful crosses (17) among defenders, Holebas is second only to Ben Davies for key passes (15 to 22) at the back.

Watford’s primary corner taker over the first 11 (he had taken 33 of their first 50), Holebas’ absence saw Hughes also claim dead-ball duties, taking all three of Watford’s corners.

Zeegelaar impressed on his first start, picking up two bonus points on his debut having won three tackles. Kiko Femenía – our preferred option among Silva’s defence – picked up a single bonus point but hobbled off late on with a knock.

Elsewhere, Adrian Mariappa – a 4.0 option in FPL – also earned a notable recall in Silva’s three-man defence having been dropped for the previous two outings.

However, like Hughes, Mariappa will surely have strong competition for his starting role with Sebastian Prödl returning from injury to figure on the bench on Sunday. Younes Kaboul is also on the road to recovery, with Silva likely to go into the busy Christmas period with the option to rotate his centre-backs.

Was Kane actually injured during the IB or was it cause he didn't want Kane to go play for England so he could rest. He didn't look anywhere near 100% fit to me.

After an uncharacteristically awful start to the season I had a “screw it” moment and took a 24 (!) point hit.

Amazingly, it looks like it’s played out not as disastrous as you’d think!

    Foster (1) > Pope (8)
    Cedric (1) > Daniels (8)
    Rosenior (0) > Mee (6)
Davies (1) > Jones (0) (daft early transfer!)
    Carroll (0) > Richarlison (8)
    Eriksen (2) > Salah (16)
    Vardy (2) > Abraham (2)

    Original players score: 7
    Transferred players score: 48
    Point hit: -24
Gain: 24 points (and a much better squad)

Anyone else had big hits pay off this season?

Scout notes trying to pick holes in Richarlison citing the lack of bonus points... The man has as many points as Kane for half the price, and he's delivered very consistently, outperforming his price point by quite a margin.

Kane, on the other hand - I don't understand why he seems to be so untouchable.

    Spurs's possession theory.

Arsenal had just 42% possession on Saturday and Spurs struggled once again.

This theory has legs. Superb by Jonty.

There is a lot of luck involved in football. Spurs could have won wit their possession and shots on target, Arsenal scored, Spurs did not, thats the way it goes

When they have lots of possession they need the pace of Rose and Aurier at wing back IMO to get in behind teams.

I would like to see Llorente play with Kane in a 4-4-2 when they play teams like Swansea etc to give them an aerial threat from Trippier and Davies' crosses.

    http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/6070/

More to come from a certain striker that was heavily transferred out prior to the weekend.

One City mid in particular is more than due.

And oddly a WBA attacker.....but feel free to ignore him unless Pulis gets sacked this week 😉

      Gabriel Fernando de Jesus

I transferred him in this week and captained him. Did better than Kane, Lukauku and Aguero.

Most on it over the last couple of weeks have scored and leapt off.

        Been a very goalalicious week.

His finishing has been the thing that has been letting him down not sure how much longer I will keep him given that Pogba is Cheaper

Captain Silva against Huddersfield? He's my vice captain at the moment.

Said striker just may get renewed trust depending on how he fares next GW , compared to a certain other highly owned forward.
Questio: Why only three players in this stat?

See above - all those who have had lots of attempts but were only scoring one max every four have now scored more and leapt off it.

This is a good thing - means those firing off lots of attempts are on the whole scoring and there is only a small cohort of players that are not yet scoring from lots of shots.

Around this time last season it was 10 strong and Ibrahimovic was top with about 1,000 shots and no goals.

          Just saw post above.
I'll definitely resist my first hunch to ship this City midfielder for Pogba 🙂

Very skinny assist imminent table too.

      http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/7385/

Two heavy hitters that are already finding the net and are set to assist more too.

Another who has set up camp on this table for a number of weeks now. One day his assist will come ....or maybe not.

Captaining Kane seemed like a great idea. I felt I was in good company to, had a look round though and all the Scouts that were extolling Kane's virtues and highlighting his form & history vs Arsenal then went on to Captain Lukaku.

I know they're good for a reason but where did that decision come from?

I'm honestly not sure why they keep praising Kane to the skies, he's probably the most overrated player around here. (N.B. by 'overrated' I don't mean 'bad', just that he's not as good as people say he is)

My reasoning for captaining Kane was pure stubbornness I guess - I refused to captain Salah because 'that would be chasing last week's points' and Hazard because he's trolled me before.

I was going to captain Kane anyway but the fact Andy, Mark etc said they were going to made me feel better about it. Only myself to blame - a Kane haul would have given the bigger rank boost so I was just being greedy I think. Will go with bookies odds next time - Lukaku was marginally ahead.

He is not getting a ban. The contact were there... Richarlison did not get a ban, then no one will.
