Captain Poll – Gameweek 13

Preparations for Gameweek 13 get underway this morning with the launch of our Captain Poll to canvass your views on the armband options.

Those Fantasy managers who have captained Harry Kane (12.8) for his “kind” fixtures at Wembley Stadium will have their resolve tested once again when West Brom drop by Spurs’ temporary home.

Kane has failed to find the net against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Swansea City and Burnley – all sides that, like the Baggies, have been happy to concede possession and soak up pressure on the road.

Yet West Brom’s recent record bodes well for Kane, who was handed the armband by 17.2% of Fantasy Premier League managers for the 2-0 North London Derby defeat by Arsenal.

The visitors have one clean sheet in 10 and have shipped a combined seven goals against Man City and Chelsea in the last three Gameweeks.

But this morning’s departure of Tony Pulis may help address that run and afford the Baggies a new lease of life.

Sold by more than 37,000 managers this week, Kane has had more shots (37) and efforts in the box (24) than any player in front of his own fans.

Yet Kane’s five blanks in six at Wembley may well open the door for Romelu Lukaku (11.7) to top the poll for the second Gameweek running and the 11th time in 13 Gameweeks.

The forward ended a seven-match goal drought for Manchester United with a strike in the 4-1 victory over Newcastle.

This weekend he faces another potentially favourable home clash, against Brighton. But with just six goals conceded and three clean sheets on the road, the Seagulls may still limit the Belgian’s potential.

Lukaku still builds a strong case – no player has scored more times at home (five) than the Belgian, who also leads the way for big chances (nine).

Paul Pogba’s (8.0) return helps to boost Lukaku’s stock, though he himself could also challenge for the summit after returning from injury to deliver a goal and an assist against Newcastle.

With three goals and four assists from five league starts, the Frenchman is already the most bought player for Gameweek 13, picking up more than 171,000 new owners.

Once again, rotation fears look set to limit the potential of Manchester City’s key targets, despite a favourable trip to a Huddersfield Town side that has conceded 14 times in their last six, including a 4-0 loss to Spurs at the John Smith’s Stadium in Gameweek 7.

However, second guessing their teamsheet may be a little simpler this weekend after Pep Guardiola admitted he will “change the team completely” for City’s Champions League encounter with Feyenoord on Tuesday in order to cope with the demanding schedule.

This indicates that Sergio Aguero (11.7), who was an unused substitute for City’s 2-0 away victory over Leicester City at the weekend, could be in line to start in midweek and potentially miss out in the league once again. More than 68,000 FPL managers have already ushered the Argentine to the exit this week – he’s started just one of their last five away matches in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, those listed on Pep’s teamsheet at the King Power Stadium look destined for another domestic start – if they’re overlooked on Tuesday.

Gabriel Jesus (10.5) has started every away match in the Premier League, scoring three times and assisting another, yet he has failed to produce double-figures on his travels.

Midfielders Leroy Sane (8.9), Raheem Sterling (8.1), David Silva (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.1) could easily outscore the Brazilian.

Of this quartet, Silva could be the most intriguing armband option. Away from home, he is City’s number one player for shots (17) and efforts in the box (13), and has already delivered five assists.

Elsewhere, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (9.6) moved to the top of the FPL standings thanks to a brace against Southampton at Anfield – his fifth double-digit points haul of the season.

The Egyptian is now the most popular midfielder in FPL – he sits in 43.8% of teams after earning 73,000 new owners this week alone. However, with a visit from a Chelsea side that has not conceded since N’Golo Kante returned from injury, Salah’s support and supply line could be restricted.

Similarly, interest in Blues’ pair Eden Hazard (10.6) and Alvaro Morata (10.5) may be muted, given that Jurgen Klopp’s troops have only conceded once in six matches at Anfield.

Both roll up to Merseyside in sensational away form, though – Hazard has 29 points in his last two, while Morata, the top player for big chances on the road (10), has blanked just once in five away trips on his way to the top of the FPL forward standings.

Watford’s Richarlison (6.5) looks a genuine alternative in the mid-price bracket for a trip to Newcastle United.

The Brazilian – whose goal against West Ham yesterday was his fifth of the campaign – boasts impressive numbers on the road. Away from home, he’s fired more shots in the box (20) than any other player and is averaging 7.2 points per appearance.

Having scored in each of his three Selhurst Park outings since returning from injury, Wilfried Zaha’s (6.8) strong home form cannot be ignored.

Stationed up front by Roy Hodgson again at the weekend, he is set to host a Stoke City side that, prior to their visit to Brighton tonight, have conceded 11 and kept just one clean sheet on their travels.

Finally, a hat-trick at home to Huddersfield at the weekend is likely to help Callum Wilson (5.9) garner votes. Acquired by over 52,000 new owners, the Bournemouth striker travels to a Swansea side that has shipped 10 and earned just one shut-out at the Liberty Stadium.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under Recent Comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of this Friday’s Gameweek 13 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

12.8 is too much for any player in this game, especially for fwd who is blanking against, on a paper, weaker teams. For this price, he should scored almost every game and double-digits is a must in every third game for example. One goal against WBA in GW13 isn't something that you want for 12.8.He can't score even against stronger sides(except Lpool, every player can score against Reds 🙂 ).Whit Pep's rotations, only striker you need is Morata.Forget about this scouts advices - it's all about statistics, last season and almost same sentences every GW: "Kane is best fwd in PL, he can explode in every game bla bla bla".Invest in your midfield, there are so many valuable players(Salah, Sane, Pogba, Hazard, Sterling, Mane, Richarlison...).They can score 10 or more points much easier than attackers. You can even boost your defence with a money from Kane and play 4-4-2. 4-5-1, 5-4-1 etc.

It's only too much if he continues to blank. You make some valid points but Morata isn't the only forward you need

"He can't score even against stronger sides(except Lpool, every player can score against Reds"

ok what about dortmund? and are we just going to ignore the previous seasons where he's destroyed teams like chelsea arsenal etc?

looks like youre afraid of not owning kane and either want reassurance by posting this or want others to join in so rish of now owning is reduced, because if i felt strongly about player being overpriced i wouldn'be posting paragraphs about it, in fact i wouldn't warn others at all. let them suffer

I agree. I think he's just trying to convince himself of not owning Kane. And yeah, if he really did have those views, he would keep them to himself and shoot up the ranks. But anyway, Kane is the best striker in the league (Apart from Aguero in my opinion) and is worth it in my view.

I havnt been on much recently so not seen your posts but I was the first to rib you when the tigers beat you four times during the season. So now i feel that i should admit that you showed us how to play "one off" games in the grand final. Congrats to you and your team you won when it mattered. Hope your FPL is going ok.

What about Dortmund?! Man, this is Premier League, why r u talking about Europe? You don't get points from CL.Yes, you must be real and ignore previous seasons and look in the present and future. For that price he doesn't get enough points! You want proof? Aguero played 602 minutes, Kane 939 and Kun scored 1 point more than Kane. What is most important thing, if you have Kane, than he must be your captain every GW coz of his price.

" if i felt strongly about player being overpriced i wouldn'be posting paragraphs about it, in fact i wouldn't warn others at all. let them suffer" Dude, wake up, this is fu**ing game, not war and if you want to be 1st at the end of season, you need more luck than knowledge.Keep Kane, live in the past and pray every GW that he will score more than ones.Actually, pray that he will even score one goal.

Don’t disagree with this, but not sure if ready to offload Kane. Spreading the risk over a high scoring mid, could now be a better option - Sanchez, hazard, Pogba all performing this week. Spurs have some good fixtures in Dec. currently looking at a front 2 of Kane and Morata, but could change over the next 2 GW.

The main thing that's stopping me selling Kane ain't the way he ended last season.. but when he blanked against Burnley and hull and I sold him then he scores a hatty and went on a crazy run from then. I don't want to make that mistake again.. however.. should we be looking at Kane purely on this season alone?

Mahrez is a good example imo. Unplayable 2 seasons ago and last season was pathetic. Or even hazard 2 seasons ago was dire compared to season before. I'm not trying to convince anyone or myself to sell Kane but his form/fitness is worrying!

    Hi

Hoping for bit of advice. I have both Jones and Stones injured and one free transfer. Stones seems the longer term injury, so looking to replace him.
    Current defence is
    Moreno - Stones - Jones - Kiko - Mariapa

No money itb, so limited to 5.6 sale price for Stones. I'm considering:

    Mustafi (5.3m)
    Monreal (5.6m)
    Mee or Ward (4.6m)
Smalling (5.4m) - but would leave me with 2 Man U defenders once Jones is fit

Probably leaning towards Mustafi because of price, but any thoughts or other suggestions appreciated.

Dunk if you don't own Duffy or Lejune, would be worried about yedlin being rotated with Dummett returning as it means either him or Manquillo won't have a place in the starting 11

this simulation tribunal thing is a joke. Why for example doesn't Fabregas get a ban for a clear dive aimed at winning a penalty? because he got a yellow in the game. Now they will look at Niasses , not be able to agree between themselves, as they did with Richarlason- and nothing will happen.

    Wheres the deterrent?

if they start banning players who are already punished in teh game or gained absolutely no advantage we'll have half a dozen bans being dished out every week. not worth the effort. kind of like having a hawk eye challenge for every close call in tennis

If you compare this to Sanchez who was tugged at in the penalty box at the end of the Spurs game, almost fell over but regained his balanced and got his shot off on goal, its a clear sign that these players are athletes and capable of staying on their feet when being pushed and pulled in different directions. A flick on the chest by the Dann was contact but for him to fall over like that makes it a dive and he should banned. If they want to eradicate diving, this is how to do it. Zero tolerance, regardless of the circumstances

I agree. Carded or not action should be taken. Why should one player get away with a yc then others who don't get caught mainly due to the incompetence of referees , get a 2 game ban.

It's the FA though . The same FA that let Vardy stick 2 fingers up at the ref a couple of seasons ago. They do what they want for who they want

    Team for GW13:
    Elliot
    Daniels - Jones - Moreno
    Carroll - Salah - Sterling - Richarlison
    Agüero - Lukaku - Kane

    Bench: Foster, Mee, Hegazi, Chalobah.

0.3M ITB, 1FT.. Thinking Chalobah to RLC and play him instead of Carroll who was benched last game.. Or maybe transfer out Hegazi for a cheap def and play 4-3-3..

    Thoughts? Other ideas?

I have Morata, Lukaku & Kane.
I seriously need to get rid of one to bolster my midfield as that is where the points are really at. Kane is really hard to trade because of his potential however Lukaku (yes has been poor), however with Pogba's return he may soon be the man he was firing away at the start of the season. Morata is a no brainer to keep.

    Who is best to go?

    What would you do, early?

    Eliot,
    Simpson, Daniels, Naughton,
    Eriksen, Salah, Richarlison, Groß,
    Lacazette, Lukaku, Jesus.

Mignolet, Tarrol, Ward, Löwe. 1 FT, 0.2 ITB.

Save FT than Laca, Eriksen and Löwe for Niasse, Hazard and Azpi?
    Other opinions?

Not football related but RIP Jana Novotna. At Wimbledon (tennis) in the 90's, her story was epic.
