Dugout Discussion – Brighton vs Stoke

Gameweek 12 comes to its conclusion at the Amex Stadium this evening as Brighton entertain Stoke at 8pm.

For the hosts, Pascal Gross has been the standout asset in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Sitting in over 19% of FPL squads, the playmaker has averaged 7.2 points per match (ppm) in front of his own fans – when on the pitch, he’s played a part in 83% of their home goals.

Four strikes in the Seagulls’ last three league outings have brought Glenn Murray (5.8) onto our radars as a potential budget frontman – over 112,000 acquired him for Gameweek 12.

Up against a defence that has conceded at least twice in six of their last eight, Murray is the most captained player for tonight’s encounter, handed the armband by 6,868 managers compared with Gross’ 3,904 backers.

The Potters’ two most popular players, Eric Choupo-Moting (5.8%) and Xherdan Shaqiri (5.3%), have struggled on their travels, with just an away assist between them (for the latter) in five road trips.

Yet the duo’s home form means that, overall, they’ve still averaged a decent 4.0 and 4.5 ppm respectively this season. And clashes with Palace and Swansea in the next three could warrant further attention for the midfield pair.

Brighton, though, have been fairly resilient at home – league leaders Manchester City, in a 2-0 win in Gameweek 1, are the only side to have scored more than one goal away to Chris Hughton’s men.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

A lot of jammy bar stewards with their auto subs.

Is it jammy though? Surely just smart to have a strong subs bench incase. Like I had both Bailly and Jones with Moreno and Fernandez on the bench so gained 7 from those. Plus 5 from Loftus on my bench. Advantage of having a stronger bench.

Yes, it is lucky because you benched them thinking your starters would earn more points.

Having a "strong" bench is different to having Hunemeier and Mbemba on the bench - that's just bad planning.

I've seen ML rivals have Cork (11 pts) and RLC (5 pts) coming off the bench. That's not investing in the bench in case of rotation, that's pure luck that a bench fodder player earned you points this week.

Gross and Choupo-Moting are genuine 4th midfielders. RLC and Cork, sadly, are not. They're players that help you out with a couple of points, in a pickle.

I guess it depends on the situation. But in my case all my on field players bar Kane and Vardy scored 6-10 points this week with my captain Salah getting 32. The likelyhood is, if both Jones and Bailly started United would have probably got a CS as normal as Lindelof's slip kind of gifted Newcastle their goal. So Moreno and Fernandez points weren't lucky, both were viable options I just preferred alternatives and my players on the pitch outscored them regardless. RLC I feel is harsh to call bench fodder, I have him because he's honestly better value than anyone until maybe Gross/Choupo.

I stopped reading at "my captain Salah getting 32.". How is that relevant to having a strong bench?

But well done... a good captain pick, a good week and you got to tell everyone about it! 🙂

Clearly someone's had a bad week, genuinely thought people on this website were pretty mature, clearly was wrong. Regardless hardly makes up for my garbage weeks before this one. But that wasn't the point, the reason I said all those details was to explain that my on field picks were correct but even my bench picks were viable options so I don't really view it as luck. I've just planned my squad incase of any injuries/rotation of people like Jones and Sane.

Don't take my comments so seriously. We're on a fantasy football forum at 1am... it's a bit of fun.

Regarding the points you make, Jones was red flagged before the GW deadline so we could start him and ensure we had a strong sub just in-case. People even took hits such as Bavies > Daniels to prepare for this as it was a likely scenario.

I don't consider this lucky. This is good preparation for a GW. I've explained above what is lucky, so please don't take my comments personally.

My apologies, sometimes hard to judge whether people are being serious or not! Yeah which is why Moreno was my first sub, unfortunately for me Bailly got injured as well which meant Fernandez came in. Earlier I accidentally made it seem like I got 5 points from RLC as well. I didn't, he was still on my bench, I just meant if I'd had another issue he was also there. Yeah fair enough makes sense!

Got a quick question for you. Do you think trading Bailly for Mee this week before his price rise is worth it, or should I just hold Bailly and get Lowton next week instead?

Very nice planning. Sorry for any insult felt.

I’d keep Bailly for Brighton if Mourinho indicates he’s available for that. If not, I’m not sure I’d be getting a Burnley defender for Arsenal at home and then 2 away games. Burnley have been excellent though.

Presumably you’re trying to free up funds so if the budget is 4.6m then they do look the best options right now. Tarkowski looks to have greater goal threat from what I’ve seen, btw.

No problem! Yeah trying to go Gross to Hazard but need to take Bailly to someone. Could just go Daniels instead and then have 0.1 itb to eventually upgrade Fernandez. But I though I'd do Mee/Lowton first before they both rise again. Should I just go Daniels next week alongside Hazard and leave Fernandez for now and then see what I want to do GW15 with him. I have Pope regardless.

Big fan of Daniels. He’d be the one I’d go for if you can afford 4,9m and still get Hazard next week or in the future. Good luck!

Oh ps just looked at your squad and it's literally near enough identical to what I'm hoping to have after next game week. Only small changes are:
                        Alonso > Azpi
                        Mbemba > Fernandez
                        Sterling > Salah
                        Carroll > RLC
                        Calvert > Niasse

Identical structure basically just tiny changes! Really like the look for your team!

          You're missing a little context.

In playing West Ham on Friday, Leicester have 3 full days rest before playing Spurs at home (Spurs have just 2 days rest). Following the Spurs game, Leicester have another 3 days rest before playing Burnley at home (again, Burnley only have 2 days rest).

Then comes new, sot and CPL ... all reasonable fixtures for Leicester.

By all means sell Vardy, you've remained patient, I'm just trying to give you a ray of hope.

I pesume there are some super scores on here! I got away with it, as 59(-4) was a decent score for me in the end considering:
    1. I had no CHE.
    2. I had no LIV.
    3. I had no ARS but double Spurs attack.
    4. Duffy 1 pointer in for Jones.

Gross has been a super signing (one of the few things that I've gotten right this season) and that was a nice going away present from him!

88 (-8) here. brought in Daniels, Alonso, Sane and Morata for Davies, Cedric, Eriksen and Jesus.

The Morata move on its own wasn’t great, but I captained him over Kane so it did help (would never have captained Jesus). 26pts better off overall including captain difference.

Just need to figure out how to get Salah in my team!

Thank your lucky stars that Choupo and RLC returned points this week!

Looks like a good week to save a FT.

I don't like your GKs or your defence. Simpson to Daniels or Mee, assuming your Ward is the CP one.

What combo will get more points long term?
    A. De Gea + Sterling
    B. De Gea + Coutinho
    C. De Gea + Mane
    D. Pope + Hazard

I don't think anyone can predict this. If I was to guess then I'd say De Gea will outscore Pope by only 20 points max, and I think Hazard could end up outscoring all of those midfield options by 20 points. So D.

Having most of your funds in Hazard allows you to jump off onto Sanchez, KdB, whoever comes along next without having to sell De Gea too, so I'd always go with the cheap (but performing) GK.

    Thoughts on:
    1) Christensen for cheap while nailed Chelsea defensive cover?
    2) Lloris for cheap while nailed Tottenham defensive cover?

    1. F4L
      • 9 Years

Spurs aren't solid w/o wanyama and aldy, wouldn't be going near their defence tbh. Christensen could be gold, but Luiz will be waiting in the wings

        • 7 Years

Agreed about Spurs not solid without Toby, it's just that a few weeks ago I was planning to get Vertonghen in by now, not likely anymore, but if they reinvent defensive chemistry they have nice fixtures to take advantage of.
As for Chelsea, ideally I'd go for Alonso/Azpi but trying to build a better bench there have to be some compromises.
Courtois could be another way if Lloris's defence doesn't get clean sheets.

    A. Aguero

    C. KdB

I think I'd say 1. Hazard 2. KdB. 3. Aguero But if Aguero gets enough minutes he'd be the heavy favorite, but I'm assuming he'll pick up an injury and just be regularly rotated.
