Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope

The FA have this morning charged Oumar Niasse with the “successful deception of a match official”, deeming that he dived in the area in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, earning his side a penalty kick for their opening goal.

The three-man FA panel have concluded that there was “overwhelming evidence” that Niasse had dived as part of the incident and the striker could now face a two-match suspension as a result.

He has until 6pm this evening to respond to the decision. Should the charge be upheld, he will sit out Everton’s trip to Southampton in Gameweek 13, along with the midweek home clash with West Ham the following Wednesday.

Niasse becomes the first player to be charged by the FA’s new trial-by-video initiative, aimed at reducing the “simulation” of fouls in the game.

Saturday’s penalty came about when Palace defender Scott Dann was penalised by referee Anthony Taylor when there appeared to be minimal contact with Niasse.

The striker himself was not shy coming forward attempting to justify his action.

“People are saying I fell down too easily, I don’t know about that but the game needed it, and I did it. When I felt contact on my body all I had to do was go to the floor because I was running quickly. That is all I did, and for me it is a good reaction.”

Those ill-fated words are unlikely to have helped Niasse’s cause.

The news comes as a major blow to his new army of owners, with some 124,000+ Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers investing in the Senegalese ahead of Gameweek 13 following his 10-point haul at Palace.

Niasse took his tally to five goals and an assist from just seven appearances following the Palace draw, pushing his claims for the budget third striker slot in our line-ups.

His FPL price had increased to 5.0 as a result of the weekend investment, though with a potential ban in place, it could once again sink back to 4.9 over the coming days.

Much will depend on whether his 5.3% ownership are able to absorb his absence and keep him benched for the next two Gameweeks.

If banned, Niasse will be joined on the sidelines by three players who topple from the suspension tightrope.

Isaac Hayden of Newcastle United, Oriol Romeu of Southampton and Tom Davies of Everton all picked up their fifth bookings of the season at the weekend to sit out Gameweek 13.

Meanwhile, Simon Francis of Bournemouth will also miss the weekend fixture – the Cherries’ trip to Swansea City – after he earned a one-match suspension for earning two yellow cards in the win over Huddersfield.

The Suspension Tightrope widget keeps a tally of cards accumulated from all domestic matches across the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Premier League. It is available under the Watchlist rankings in your right sidebars or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet.

It currently shows those players one booking away from a one-match ban.

Just a reminder that players must avoid five yellow cards over their respective team’s first 19 Premier League matches in order to avoid a suspension. Similarly, they must steer clear of 10 cautions over their side’s 32 opening top-flight matches to prevent a ban.

For Fantasy managers, this means that Gameweek 19 – on December 23 – is currently the curfew for five yellow cards. Players, therefore, have seven matches yet to play before the threshold moves to 10 yellow cards.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Lets say all 11 of your starters score in successive GWs and your bench is OK - your bench is filled with enablers (cheap players) and defender rotations. Why would you change a player from a system that's working?

And they don't even have to score in both weeks - they just need to provide the value you're expecting from them in 1 game and than blank the other game.

say a 5M player scores 15 points in 1 game and blanks the second. He's made 17 points in 2 games - more than you'd expect.

I made this mistake a some weeks back. I was happy with my team and had no money ITB. With 2 FT's I just sat tight. In hindsight I should have got Suttner out for a playing defender, but at the time we didn't know he would be dropped soon after. Still got him and now down to 4.3!

The problem is that the rule doesn't apply to your team. You had Firmino who blanked in 4 successive games and was facing MU and Spurs - Firmino should have been dropped there.

Everyone in my ML's has WC'd, so I am thinking of using mine. Sat 1st/2nd in all so in good shape. Dropped to 170k overall.

    WC proposal

    Elliot DDG
    Daniels Mee Jones (Moreno Maguire)
    Salah Pogba Sane Richarlison Grob
    Kane Morata (Niasse)

    Current team:

    Elliot DDG
    DAVIES Mee Jones (NAUGHTON Moreno)
    Salah SILVA STERLING Richarlison CARROLL
    AGUERO ABRAHAM Kane

What do you think? Aguero (likely rest if plays tonight) Davies (rotation) Jones (injury) Abraham (injury then cannot play v Chelsea) Carroll (dropped)...

    Would really appreciate some help!!

he's going to be my 3rd sub a lot of the time - the ban is annoying but not really any reason to change my plans

What's the most amount of point hits you have taken in one go? My team is:

    Elliot, Foster
    Kolasinac, Daniels, Mawson, Hunemier, Rosenoir
    Sterling, Eriksen, Salah, Richarlison, Carroll
    Kane, Lukaku, Murray

I'm suffering death by cheap players who's value is falling and wrecking any chance of making some real change. I'm contemplating a -8 or -12 to sort my team out. I used my wildcard early so I'm stuck like this until the new year. Worth ruining my rank for a week to fix my team?

Took a -24 in my first season last year, will surely kick you out of LMS and mean a massive red arrow, which will be difficult to come back from, even for the new team.

Yeah, I'm kind of in a similar position owning Mbemba, Elliot, Krul, Chalobah, Carroll along with Jones too. I have taken a 12 pointer in the past I think but it was before a DGW.

I would be taking -4's along the way rather than a big -12. What was the -12 you were thinking?

Still trying to decide. I just know that I need a good bench going into the Christmas season, which I do not have now. I'm contemplating dropping Kane to afford better players, but not this week.

I think it may be better to save a transfer this week, hope for the best then I can do 4 transfers next week for -8.

These are tough moments in a season. I was going to go for Daniels rather than Azpi which would have given me a bit of cash to play with, now I have 0 ITB and feel castled.

Agree need a decent squad over Christmas. You can't really drop Kane or Eriksen this week. Mawson needs to go I reckon and that could free up a little. No Burnley defender has to have hurt.

What would your thinking be with this squad right now:

              Elliot / Krul

              Azpi Jones Mee Naughton Mbemba

              Sterling Salah Gross Carroll Chalobah

              Kun Kane Lukaku

              0ITB

Thinking a -4 Naughton&Chal out for 4.4 defender&RLC. Not inspiring but need to clear out rubbish.

On the subject of Chelsea assets from GW14 onwards, it appears that Conte has had a renaissance with Cesc. Started nine of the last ten games and historically gets well forward against weaker teams.

Obviously subject to Pedro and Willian rotation but with their new structure, can he be a viable mid option?

The decision to charge Niasse is a joke as there is blatantly contact. It never would have happened if that was say Alli or Sterling.

surely you'd agree though that there is not enough contact to bring a pro footballer down (mention that as they have sensational core strength and balance). tbh i doubt it would have brought a drunk teenager down

You could say that to half a dozen incidents in every game. If there's contact then I don't see how they can charge him. I don't own him either so it's not sour grapes (own DCL so a ban would probably benefit me).

seems to be for big incidents in games, like penalties and red cards. alli had a shocker earlier in the season, dont recall vs who but was caught and cautioned. otherwise im sure he'd have been the first if the pen was given

And the hardest to fit in at that price point when so many cheaper mods are producing.

Expect him to be 11.0 by GW 16 and everyone tearing up there teams to get him with that ownership and how price rises work.

I’ve got eriksen, Alli and Kane, last few weeks have been a disaster. Thinking of shipping out Alli and eriksen, neither appears to be in good form.
