The Gameweek 16 Team News

Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic will be fit for the derby at Old Trafford, though David Silva remains a doubt for visitors Man City. Arsenal has concerns over defender Shkodran Mustafi for their trip to Southampton, while Burnley’s Ben Mee is expected to face Watford at Turf Moor.

Here’s our summary of the key team news so far, with an array of big press conferences still to come this afternoon.

Burnley will be without key midfielder Robbie Brady for Watford’s visit on Saturday. The schemer faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines after undergoing an operation on a knee injury sustained in the defeat at Leicester City. Meanwhile, Matt Lowton (knee) remains “touch and go” for the home clash against Watford, though manager Sean Dyche has indicated that Ben Mee has a “strong chance” of being available having suffered a gash to his knee.

For the visitors, Miguel Britos remains a doubt due to a leg problem, with head coach Marco Silva to make a decision on the defender today.

Wayne Hennessey, James Tomkins, Scott Dann and Yohan Cabaye have all returned to training ahead of Crystal Palace’s home encounter against Bournemouth and should be available to return. James McArthur (illness) also has a good chance of being in contention but Joel Ward is a doubt due to a groin problem.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe will be without the suspended Adam Smith for the trip to Selhurst Park, so Steve Cook is expected to return to the back four.

David Wagner will again be without the suspended Rajiv van La Parra for the home fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion, while Martin Cranie is a slight doubt. The Seagulls have no new injury concerns, though may again rotate at full-back and on the flanks.

Spurs will be without the suspended Davinson Sanchez when they host Stoke City at Wembley Stadium, while Danny Rose is a doubt due to an eye injury sustained in Wednesday’s Champions League tie.

The Potters will turn up without the injured Bruno Martins Indi but Geoff Cameron is available again after returning to full training following a head injury. Jese is ruled out due to personal reasons.

Swansea City defender Federico Fernandez is available for the visit of West Bromwich Albion to the Liberty Stadium, having returned from two weeks’ compassionate leave following the death of his father. But after playing 62 minutes for the U23s yesterday to build up his match fitness, he isn’t expected to replace Mike van der Hoorn.

Gareth Barry will miss the trip to south Wales but Matt Phillips and Chris Brunt look set to return to contention for the Baggies.

Shkodran Mustafi is doubtful for Arsenal’s trip to Southampton due to a small thigh problem, with Per Mertesacker on standby to replace his compatriot.

Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno remains a doubt for Sunday’s Merseyside derby with an ankle injury. Jurgen Klopp will decide on Andrew Robertson or James Milner for the role should the Spaniard miss out. Elsewhere for the Reds, Jordan Henderson will return as skipper having been rested for the 7-0 rout of Spartak Moscow on Wednesday.

Leighton Baines remains a big doubt for the Toffees, having missed the last two matches with a calf injury with Sam Allardyce perhaps set to name an unchanged side following back-to-back wins and clean sheets.

Following the 2-1 victory over CSKA Moscow in midweek, Jose Mourinho has revealed that Nemanja Matic will start when Manchester United host Manchester City but he will, of course, be without the suspended Paul Pogba. Phil Jones and Marouane Fellaini are thought to have a chance of returning to contention, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic should also be back among the substitutes.

David Silva is a minor doubt for the visitors at Old Trafford due to a knock which saw him sit out Tuesday’s Champions League defeat, while Sergio Aguero is expected to get the nod over Gabriel Jesus for the central striker role.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section, together with predicted line-ups ahead of this tomorrow’s 11.30am deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter account for breaking news as the day unfolds.

2010:.the one year (at least)where messi or ronny didnt deserve the ballon d'or

Its become a bit of a farce now.not those two players fault, they have been the best players overall in the last decade but other deserving players are being overlooked by the voters for what they did in a calender year, wesley schneider being one of them.

G2G? I'm just unsure which player to cap, Haz/Salah/Kane in that order atm.

    Fabianski
    Christensen, Otamendi, Kolasinac
    Gross, Salah, Hazard(C), Ramsey, Richarlison
    Kane,Morata

    Thanks!

Good team, what's the bench. I'm probably going Haz out of those options

Bad bench only Tarkowski playing atm. Fixing bench next week. Yes but I am leaning towards Kane now just to afraid of rotation for both Sal/Haz even though they should play cuz of "rival game"

Fair enough 🙂 I can see the reasoning. ML rival doesn't have Kane so (as I'm not bothered about OR) I'm happy with just getting any Kane points 🙂

Yeah. I think Kane will score on saturday and he will play 100 % so no risk. My ML rival doesnt have Kane but hes got Salah and Hazard. What should I do?

No idea! I think I'm going for Hazard but my captain scores have been pretty dismal. Let me know if you settle on one 😉

Last week I had Hazard so got 30 points 😉 But don't know so tough, I hate to captain a player that plays the first game, ur GW can be ruined 🙂 I just have a feeling Kane will get minimum 2 goals, he does not have the form but he got some rest this weekend and Spurs should definitely deliver now after their chaotic matches.

                Currently on:

                1. Kane
                2. Hazard
                3. Salah

On one hand I've never owned Alonso and always wanted to and never been a huge believer in expensive keepers, plus Palace have some decent fixtures. On the other, a) seems to give more balance. Thoughts?

Defence is cheap but plan is to save FT gw17 and fix it up for gw18 maybe bringing in creswell. Why wouldn't Chelsea get clean sheets. One of best defences with a good manager and amazing fixtures

    Worth switching Sane to Coutinho?

Already have Salah & Sterling. Liv fixtures are better up until the new year.

    a) switch now for -4 but avoid sane vs united
    b) switch next week for free
    c) stick with sane & salah

They do. But the West Ham match could be a funny one. They looked decent VS City. Currently on Hazard, I feel like they could wallop West Ham if they're up for it.

Arsenal are top for attacking stats in the last 4 by a big margin which makes things trickier.

Sanchez having a midweek rest (unlike Hazard) is an important point too.

"Stoke striker Jese Rodriguez has been disciplined by the club after he left the bench early during last weekend's victory over Swansea

Asked if Jese had apologised, the Welshman added: "Not in so many words because his English isn't great but he understands that it was incorrect."

It is, of course, entirely plausible and not at all complete nonsense that Jese's English is so bad that he cannot express the simple word "sorry", or any similar phrase despite having been at Stoke for four months.

Genuinely have no idea what changes to make this week, I've got 2 FT's and £0.9ITB

Only players I'm waivering on are Elliot, Daniels, Duffy, Choupo, Silva and Wilson.

    Rest of my team is;

    Fabs
    Kola, Ota, Ward
    Salah, Richa, RLC
    Kane, Morata

What would you guys suggest? Feel like I need to squeeze Hazard in but it's difficult.

Well you're currently only playing with 9 players, getting a full 11 would be good.

Bench a £5.9m defender? That doesn't sit quite right with me.

Silva would have been straight out of the door had he not scored last week. The fact he's 75% this week is a little worrying but it's an important game so surely he will start? Will he do anything though...

Also, if you think I should bench Daniels this week then surely I should sell due to awful fixtures coming up? He would be the makeweight in a 3 transfer (-4 hit) to bring in Hazard for Silva possibly.

        I'm so confused!

I'm benching Otamendi because I think Man United will win. If you want to sell Daniels to bring in Hazard, then I would go for it.

Im still torn between Ramsey and Coutinho. Cout may be rotated while Ramsey will play every game. But Cout has potenial to explode. But Ramsey means i can get a decent defender for Daniels. Anyone care to help me with this dilemma?

Go with Coutinho mate. You can still get a decentish defender for 5.0 anywho.

I would go Ramsey and decent defender. Just don't trust Coutinho playtime/transfer issues/..

Couts is vital for LFC he may be rested for a game sometime soon but looking over a few weeks id expect him to easily outscore ramsey

I believe Mark mentioned this on the ScoutCast before but do you agree that starting players that are up against eachother is a bad idea and that you should always bench the weaker player and start someone else?

For example; I'm starting Richarlison but then have to choose out of Ward and Daniels to start. Burnley have better CS odds than Bournemouth but if Richarlison scores or assists I've lost the CS from Ward. I own a Palace player (RLC) but more than happy to leave him on the bench every week.

      No

I see that as akin to choosing a team based on your league rivals

Just select the players you feel have the best chance of scoring points for you

Obviously to do so you'd factor in their opponents anyway so it really should take care of itself.

Good point. If that's the case how does this starting XI and bench look to you?

        Fabs
        Kola, Ota, Ward, Duffy
        Salah, Silva, Richarlison
        Kane, Morata, Wilson

        Elliot, Ota, Choupo, RLC

          Nice.

Ota is a question for me. I mean he brings attacking returns too...

Also personally I dropped Kane to hulk my mids and love that I did, but many kept Kane...

Depends if the defender has attacking threat or not. So for example I'd play Alonso or Otamendi against anyone.

I have that issue this week that you mentioned. I have Richarlison and may play Duffy not Ward as a result as they are much of a muchness. If Richarlison blanks and Ward keeps a cs I get 8 pts most likely.

If Duffy keeps a cs and Richarlison assists/ scores I obvs get more.

Yep. Some defenders are just buy and play always.

It would be painful to watch ota score a goal knowing he was on your bench.

Kola and Ota in for me due to attacking threat then.

I'm thinking Duffy better than Daniels for this week which means I should use the latter, Silva and Wilson for a -4 hit to bring in Hazard.

Best 5th defender and 3rd striker for £9.3m? Wish I had more £
