Dugout Discussion – Tuesday

Another midweek Gameweek is upon us and with it surely another bout of heavy rotation.

Benches at the ready, we start with three Tuesday night fixtures with Chelsea the headline act.

Antonio Conte’s side travel to Huddersfield Town, with the Italian having already prepared us for the absence of striker Alvaro Morata. Fatigue and a back problem keeps the Spanish striker sidelined with his red flag sparking a fire sale – over 663,000 managers have shed the striker ahead of tonight’s deadline.

That leaves Eden Hazard as the key attacking asset on show at the John Smith’s stadium, with the Belgian seemingly thrust into a central attacking role by Conte tonight. Hazard has already produced big scores on the road and will be fancied for further returns against a Terriers defence that has creaked of late.

Meanwhile, those holding Blues defender will hope for a reversal of fortunes following just a single clean sheet from the last four Gameweeks. Andreas Christensen makes his seventh successive start in Chelsea’s back three tonight.

Defence will also be the focus at Turf Moor, where Burnley host Stoke City. Ben Mee and Matt Lowton again miss out for Sean Dyche’s side, though left-back Stephen Ward takes his 25.5% ownership into the clash with the Potters.

Finally, at Selhurst Park, we’d expect defences to play second fiddle in the meeting of Crystal Palace and Watford. Both field attacking line-ups, with Richarlison starting for the visitors despite the pre-match talk of a rest for the Brazilian. Ruben Loftus-Cheek – a fifth midfielder in 440,000+ squads, could yet become a key figure and a hero in tonight’s clash.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hopefully Salah gets a cameo at least. I had peanuts left on the bench at the start of the night and they're long gone already. Would also cancel out all the jammy Kane (VC)s.

An injured guy usually doesn't get a cameo. He either starts or sits somewhere else.

I'm not saying he was. I was asking a question due to both players having plenty of competition in their positions.

        Jones wasn't rotated either.

Christensen getting subbed early is a good sign - means he's important and less likely to be rested.

If Christiansen gets through this weekend I'll be happy as he has a week until next game. I wouldn't get Jones though as he'll be rotated a lot, particularly nearer Christmas.

        Much to ponder.

No injury for Shaqiri. Was just a mark hughes "tactical change".

I thought he looked alright, don't remember seeing any big chances being created for Stoke, but what was being created came though Shaqiri. Allen, Diouf, and Shaqiri look like the only decent players for Stoke.

He could have taken off Salah/Coutinho/Mane when the CL game was dead at 50 mins but took off Firmino instead who he then benched for the derby anyway.

Like Firmino, they still wouldn't have necessarily started the Derby. Work load vs space between games vs recovery time. Minutes isn't the only factor

Preventing possible injuries is on work load and sprints, they could have come off early in the CL and still not start vs Everton like Firmino.

I would suggest checking Anfield Index Under Pressure podcast. They have the statistical data to back it up.

Klopp: “I took Mo Salah off because he had a hamstring a little bit. Then everyone said ‘how can you take him off?’ and stuff like this. I don’t go out and say ‘yeah, but he is close to being injured.' He is not at the moment, thank God. Hopefully we took him off early enough.”

Liverpool are confident it’s only minor. Klopp must decide whether to rest Salah for Wednesday. (James Pearce)

After the recent injuries, I'm thinking I need more than 1 sub

    Pope/Speroni
    Otamendi - Vertongen - Christensen - Mustafi - Hunemeier
    Salah - Haz - Sterling - Richarlison - Colback
    Kane - Morata - DCL

    0.0 in the bank.

Silva and Kenny in for Hunemeier and Sterling? If the prices change tonight I can't afford so tempted to do it... Stick with Sterling and 1 sub or get Silva and have 2? What you reckon?
