Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Relentless Kane Rolls On

Harry Kane emphatically breaks more records and the hearts of those Fantasy managers who risked turning their back on his talents ahead of an impending blank.

The Spurs striker made it back-to-back hat-tricks from a blisteringly productive festive schedule so far. In doing so, he shattered Alan Shearer’s Premier League record for goals in a calendar year.

Those Fantasy managers who showed patience and held on to Kane will be overjoyed, but now have another difficult decision ahead of them.

They will face a dilemma with a second consecutive 17-point to sweeten the pill, but two hat-tricks in the space of three days cannot shift the fact that Kane now has a blank to come.

More than 131,000 managers had brought him in for the 5-2 win over Southampton regardless of that blank, with 1,161,712 making him the most-captained player of Gameweek 20.

They are now part of a 41.2% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership that must decide whether to stick or twist on the forward.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata is an obvious replacement for Gameweek 21, and he made his case with a first goal since Gameweek 15. To add to the Spaniard’s appeal, the Blues entertain Stoke City next and the Potters, already without Kurt Zouma, saw their skipper Ryan Shawcross limp off today.

But the downside of selling Kane involves cost – in both price and transfers expended.

His value is on the move. It rose to 12.9 ahead of Boxing Day and could increase again before Gameweek 21 with a number of managers either oblivious to, or simply not caring about, his blank.

Some 33,000 have already transferred him in for his non-existent Gameweek 21, so should his price rise again, those selling him could lose profit as well as the two transfers the transaction will cost – assuming, that is, that they bring Kane back for fixtures with Swansea City and West Ham. That is surely a given.

Ignoring Kane for that upcoming pair of attractive fixtures seems untenable. He will be the most-captained for Gameweek 22 and, those with the Triple Captain chip in hand will surely consider putting it in play on the back of Kane’s confidence and devastating form.

Spurs Midfield stake their claim

Kane isn’t the only member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad who warrants consideration ahead of the double-header.

Son Heung-min is building a convincing case.

The midfielder started his sixth straight match against Southampton and produced a goal, two assists and a bonus point for a second double-digit haul of that run.

In fact, Son has managed four goals and as many assists from those six matches and although he’s currently the fourth most bought player despite the blank Gameweek 21, he’s still only owned by 3.9%.

Previously far more popular, Dele Alli (11.5%) is also enjoying a min-revival.

He followed up his brace of assists at Burnley with two more, and a goal, against the Saints, with two bonus points pushing his Gameweek tally to a season’s best 15.

Son’s 8.0 price and his considerably more consistent recent form will ensure that the South Korean is favoured, with Alli reduced to an unlikely Gameweek 22 differential.

The same will probably apply to Christian Erisken. The Dane’s assist was dwarfed by other performances, but marked a fifth return in six Gameweeks.

Elsewhere, it remains difficult to justify investment in the Spurs defence.

Pochettino’s rotation policy concerning his wing-backs is now confusing everyone but him, with Serge Aurier (0.5%) handed a second straight start – and his third in four matches – as Kieran Trippier (5.8%) joined Ben Davies on the bench.

With the points potential of Spurs’ wing-backs now difficult to predict, the side’s lack of defensive stability – they’ve kept just two clean sheets since Gameweek 12 – further dampens the appeal of recruitment for the forthcoming double.

What do you think of my ML rival's team?
    https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/team/872273/event/20

WC'ed in GW19 and has already taken a hit.
He is smashing it playing differentials.

Any guesses on his 2 transfers? Had 0.9 in bank.

Hm will take a look but it’s much tougher with 2 transfers

Also I’ve noticed the team values not updating or updating late on the team pages this season which makes it a lot harder to confirm rival price changes

      Initially ITB =0.9
      Pogba=7.9, Gray=6.3
      Total funds available =15.1
      Lingard=6.0, Firmino=8.8

Guys How do i fit Coutinho into this team ? (Really tough to watch liverpool matches as i feel Salah is not enough given their all out attack approach)

    Courtois (Elliot)
    Otamendi Jones Duffy (Masuaku Naughton)
    Salah Sterling KDB Richarlison (RLC)
    Kane Morata (DCL)

Wait & See KDB. I feel he might be too expensive.

If downgrade KDB to Silva, do you have enough to upgrade Rich to Coutinho ?

nope. 0.6m short. think richarlison still offers very good value.

i could do something like kdb richarlison morata --> cout silva firmino (-4) for gw22 though

Similar scenario, my approach is to replace my high value mid (Haz not KDB) with Son for 22 and keep him after it. Allowing funds for defender upgrade to Alonso for 23. I can see why you would be less keen to lose KDB than I am to lose Haz 🙂

Any owners of Salah + Coutinho here, may I ask for your thoughts about Firmino ?

Salah is untouchable and Coutinho has been consistently getting points (3G 2A in last 3).

Triple Liverpool attacks look too much, but Firmino looks like FW of choice (4G 2A in last 3).

Not too much, but I have Morata who I'd like to give more time to. Also, Liverpool have a couple of tricky fixtures after Leicester and while Salah and Coutinho are fixture proof, Firmino is streaky. I'm happy with Morata for now

Couthino probably up for a rest next week, might transfer him to Hazard. Or hope for the best and then transfer him to a Spurs mid in GW22. Will get him back after fixture congestion for sure.

Note: Klopp has allowed Salah and Mane to attend the African Player of year Ceremony on 4th January. A day before their FA cup tie vs Everton.

Presume Salah and Mane will play all the games from now and miss the Everton game. Coutinho looked tired yesterday so expect a rest in the next two games.

Would not do it unless you have problems redistributing funds to bring kane in..most teams with good fixtures have 2 games within 48 hours which increases likelihood of rotation..

Those with a Single City attacker (Mostly Sterling,Silva, Sane).

Is it better to get Son who might not start one of the dgw games.
    Or
Is a City attacker better with Palace this week and Watford next??

Total of 17 pts from Hazard in the last 5 games.

I considered moving him on two gameweeks ago based on my theory that Chelsea have accepted they won't win the league which impacts Hazard's motivation levels.

His best FPL points have all come when Chelsea are challenging for the league.

    See you next season Eden.

What reasons are there against triple captaining Kane in the DGW? He'll be rested, in form, with the two best dgw fixtures we'll see all year, and nailed to start both...

So far all I can think of is that it would feel more comfortable saving it for later, and also maybe the teams he faces in the last dgw will be more tired?

Tbf, Virg is very good at it. Very subtle, and long term game rather than short term like Chapelle. Stuff like hailing Jay as the jizz and then immediately turning on him after Kanexit went wrong is classic stuff.
