Sky Sports Focus

Friday lunchtime has us turn to the Sky Sports game as we take a look back at the previous set of fixtures, before preparing you for the forthcoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 23 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
Huddersfield vs West HamMarko Arnautovic
Watford vs SouthamptonTroy Deeney
Newcastle vs SwanseaKyle Bartley
Crystal Palace vs BurnleyTimothy Fosu-Mensah
Chelsea vs LeicesterHarry Maguire
West Brom vs BrightonCraig Dawson
Tottenham Hotspur vs EvertonSon Heung-min
Bournemouth vs ArsenalCallum Wilson
Liverpool vs Man CityAlex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Man United vs StokePaul Pogba

Harry Maguire (11%) was the most popular player to win the accolade in Gameweek 23.

The Leicester City defender has successive clean sheets ahead of a favourable three fixtures (WAT eve SWA) and a trip to Man City before the Overhaul becomes active.

The twinkle-toed centre-back has two goals and two MoTM awards for the season, so could be a wise addition.

The second most owned player featured is Paul Pogba (10%); his 16-point Monday night haul will have been captained by many Fantasy managers, making the Frenchman’s impact probably the most significant in the Gameweek.

Gameweek 23 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 35 points or more in bonus for the season.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could deliver until the Overhaul in four weeks time (Gameweek 28).

Three specific price brackets will be used to cater for our available budgets.

The players will evolve with fixtures and form, and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in the right direction.

Notes

A slight drop in rank despite a respectable 77 points – mainly due to Paul Pogba netting 32 points as captain for my rivals – until then I’d been hovering just outside the top 100.

I missed out on Pogba, but Phil Jones still got 14 points and I kept a transfer back, so I’m in a fairly good place considering that I’m attempting to bank my trades ahead of the February Overhaul in four weeks’ time.

One transfer I’m very glad I made was to bring Mohamed Salah back into my squad – despite initially considering waiting until this coming Gameweek.

The Egyptian netted 13 points and is so highly-owned it would have killed my overall rank had I not backed down. However, removing Christen Eriksen could still hurt me on Sunday as the Dane has sustained his convincing form.

As mentioned, I’m hoping to make it to the Overhaul without spending any further transfers.

But some players are on thin ice, with Jonjoe Kenny and Nick Pope possibly losing their first-team berths soon, while Eden Hazard, David Silva and Andreas Christensen have had their minutes limited of late.

If I have to use a couple then so be it, but if I can get to Gameweek 28 with 11 or more, I’ll be very happy, given the average transfer data listed above.

Captain Plan
Sat 20th – De Bruyne (NEW)
Sun 21st – Kane (sot)
Mon 22nd – Salah (swa)

And I am currently in 650k OR so I am pretty bad

Need some advice on when to play Triple Captain chip please. Analysis follows:

Plan for now seems to be use free hit GW28 or GW31 as FA Cup will disrupt many teams with a fair amount of blanks around
GW34 seems to be best for wildcard
GW35 or GW37 are looking to be good for Bench Boost as these are likely to include DGWs

Leaving Triple Captain to a game week where a key player gets two games - as long as it doesn't interfere with Bench Boost plans would be my normal strategy but I'm thinking that Aguero this week particularly is a prime candidate to outscore many others and possibly players with 2 games. Is it wise to take the punt now or should I wait for a DGW? If so which one?

Well My SKY FANTASY game is in the bin. - After years of playing and taking it pretty seriously this year, I have to bow out.
I now need to prove my identification to log in because of it's unbreakable link with the Gambling Industry. As a reformed gambler I find this all very distasteful. I've wasted my time since August playing the game, strategising, listening to the SKY FF podcast.
    ---------------------------------------------------
SKY FF's response when I mailed them was:
"You log into the fantasy football website with your Sky Bet . . . If you have been locked out . . . you will need to contact them directly
. . . so you can log into the fantasy football website. Unfortunately I cannot help out with any issues regarding Sky Bet"
To which I replied and they basically confirmed: "So you have no control over me CONTINUING to play YOUR game ?"
    -----------------------------------------------------
My Chat with SKY Bet can be summarised as:
SKYBET: "Firstly I do apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
I can see you have been with us many years and understand that this may have come as a shock. However as regulation within the industry constantly changes and is updated to protect businesses and customers, we are now required to go though every customer to ensure they are verified. We are required to do this by the gambling commission
ME: I am NOT gambling !
SKYBET: I appreciate that, however we are a gambling company though.
ME: It's just fantasy football though?
SKYBET: I understand, however as it is one of our products we still have to verify our customers as they can play for money etc.
    --------------------------------------------------

For the record I will miss the game. I enjoyed how it offered different challenges and demands on your planning.

But as I said. I'm not gambling. It should be a game kids can play. It's 'fantasy' football

          1. MTPockets
              6 years, 2 months ago

I'm not disagreeing, just noting the money/lobbying power of the industry and knock-on to other stuff. Like fantasy football. i.e. they're fishing for your gambling business, not your participation in a football game.

I'm having the same problem and I'm ranked 130ish overall. I emailed Sky FF saying that I could not log into my account, that it was asking me to verify my account even though I've been playing it the past 3 years. I received this..

            Dear Mr Grimes

            Thank you for your email.

If you are having issues with verifying your Sky Bet account, you will need to contact Sky Bet directly as this is where your log in details for the fantasy football game are held. We run the fantasy football games for Sky but we are not allowed access to any entrants Sky Bet accounts, which is what you use to log into the website, so I cannot help out with verifying your Sky Bet account myself I'm afraid.

If you email Sky Bet at support@skybet.com, or ring them on 0330 024 4777, they will be able to help you out.

                    I tried that, no joy

I got to the end to which I got "It looks like you’ve registered through one of our products before." Log in it said(I can't) 🙄

              Yeah I got all that.
I got onto a LIVE CHAT and gave name; user name; DOB; mother's maiden name but that only got me as far as "How can I help you" and then the paraphrased chat above.
I think the game is over for me.
Although if I was 130th I'd bite the bullet. If you attach a document required to the live chat they'll sort you out. I'm just refusing at this stage.

to think at the start of the season every was falling over themselves every week to get Lukaku / Kane / Jesus / Aguero / Morata / Lacazette / Firmino. even Chicharito and Abraham had high ownership

              Alonso Jones
              Salah Sterling Son
              Kane Firmino

All the same as me. I have Adrian, Masuaku, Pogba, Arnie instead of your remaining 4. Nice though.
