Sky Sports Focus

Friday lunchtime has us turn to the Sky Sports game as we take a look back at the previous set of fixtures, before preparing you for the forthcoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 23 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
Huddersfield vs West HamMarko Arnautovic
Watford vs SouthamptonTroy Deeney
Newcastle vs SwanseaKyle Bartley
Crystal Palace vs BurnleyTimothy Fosu-Mensah
Chelsea vs LeicesterHarry Maguire
West Brom vs BrightonCraig Dawson
Tottenham Hotspur vs EvertonSon Heung-min
Bournemouth vs ArsenalCallum Wilson
Liverpool vs Man CityAlex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Man United vs StokePaul Pogba

Harry Maguire (11%) was the most popular player to win the accolade in Gameweek 23.

The Leicester City defender has successive clean sheets ahead of a favourable three fixtures (WAT eve SWA) and a trip to Man City before the Overhaul becomes active.

The twinkle-toed centre-back has two goals and two MoTM awards for the season, so could be a wise addition.

The second most owned player featured is Paul Pogba (10%); his 16-point Monday night haul will have been captained by many Fantasy managers, making the Frenchman’s impact probably the most significant in the Gameweek.

Gameweek 23 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 35 points or more in bonus for the season.

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could deliver until the Overhaul in four weeks time (Gameweek 28).

Three specific price brackets will be used to cater for our available budgets.

The players will evolve with fixtures and form, and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in the right direction.

Notes

A slight drop in rank despite a respectable 77 points – mainly due to Paul Pogba netting 32 points as captain for my rivals – until then I’d been hovering just outside the top 100.

I missed out on Pogba, but Phil Jones still got 14 points and I kept a transfer back, so I’m in a fairly good place considering that I’m attempting to bank my trades ahead of the February Overhaul in four weeks’ time.

One transfer I’m very glad I made was to bring Mohamed Salah back into my squad – despite initially considering waiting until this coming Gameweek.

The Egyptian netted 13 points and is so highly-owned it would have killed my overall rank had I not backed down. However, removing Christen Eriksen could still hurt me on Sunday as the Dane has sustained his convincing form.

As mentioned, I’m hoping to make it to the Overhaul without spending any further transfers.

But some players are on thin ice, with Jonjoe Kenny and Nick Pope possibly losing their first-team berths soon, while Eden Hazard, David Silva and Andreas Christensen have had their minutes limited of late.

If I have to use a couple then so be it, but if I can get to Gameweek 28 with 11 or more, I’ll be very happy, given the average transfer data listed above.

Captain Plan
Sat 20th – De Bruyne (NEW)
Sun 21st – Kane (sot)
Mon 22nd – Salah (swa)

He should move on Adebayor. Had 1 excellent season for Arsenal and other ok. Nonetheless a good player overall if he wanted to, problem is he was not interested mostly.

    Greetings to all

I have been doing really well having climbed rankings from around 1.9m in gw 4 to 3k in gw18, but have hit a bit of a brick wall and now i have 4 reds in the last 6. This is my team and i have already used my FT to bring in Salah for Eriksen.

Any pressing issue here and am i to expect a green arrow with this team?

    Fab (Elliot)
    Christensen Alonso Otamendi Jones (Hunem)
    Hazard Sterling Salah Arnie Lingard
    Kane (Depoitre Niasse)

you can rarely expect a green arrow from 3k! Only potential problem is your captaincy choice.

    When is Klopp press?

    1. The Rumour Mill

      6 years, 3 months ago

      now:

Jürgen Klopp is hopeful Mohamed Salah and Ragnar Klavan will return to training today following illness, but Liverpool will need to check on the condition of Dejan Lovren.

The trio missed Thursday’s double session at the club's Melwood training complex due to sickness, though Virgil van Dijk was involved once again after missing Sunday’s victory over Manchester City due to a hamstring complaint.

Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “Virgil was back yesterday and completely fine. We have a few problems with players feeling ill or unwell.

“Raggy was out, but hopefully back today. Dejan was out. Mo Salah was out, but hopefully back today.

“Mo and Raggy are on the good side of it already, but with Dejan we are not 100 per cent sure [if he will be back today].”

The most difficult GW this season for me to choose where to go with this lot!
Really want Alonso~ but it may require a hit.
    Any ideas?

    Lloris.
    Christensen, Kenny, Otamendi.
    Sterling, Salah, Richarlison, Arnautovic, Eriksen.
    Kane, Firmino.
    Speroni, Ogbonna, Mee, Calvert- Lewin.

      okay i'm bucking the trend.
Very probably coming in for Son for me next GW.
Got a point to prove. Has managed 7 goals and 5 assists in an up-and-down Arsenal side. Potentially a great diffeential at under 3% ownership.
Going early on players has worked really well for me this season.
So I'm looking at Kun & Son out for Sanchez & Firmino next week.

    10. FlockofSeagulls
      • 6 Years

      A great prospect imo.

United have never had a problem creating chances in the past 2 seasons. Their biggest problem has been finishing.

Ibra, Lukaku, Rashford, Martial, Lingard and Mata have all been guilty of poor finishing in the past 2 seasons.

In Sanchez they'll have a proven finisher who can also create chances. Having watched United closely over the past 2 seasons in particular I have no doubt he'll flourish in this United side.

Arguably a better finisher than all the above mentioned players, and can also create his own chances if given half a yard.

Haters will disagree, but as a neutral my unbias opinion is that it's hard to see a player of Sanchez's caliber not prospering in a United team that is much better than the Arsenal team he's coming from considering what he was able to achieve there.

      1. George Sillett
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 3 months ago

Very constructively argued. For me he could effectively be an 11.7 forward option as United will have a solution when Lukaku is rested. Similar to yourself , contrary to some opinion I believe that United create plenty of quality chances and Sanchez deserves to compete with Kane , Kun , Salah , KDB etc in the FPL higher price bracket .

That's because great minds think alike Slouch my man. 😉

Sanchez is 100% top of my watchlist should this deal finally go through.

I also don't think it's too difficult to fit Kane, Salah, Sterling and Sanchez in the same team given the emergence of the cheaper value mids we're now seeing come through.

Having the power 4 so to speak gives you the top club cover and ample captaincy options.

A wait and see I guess.

Salah illness rumors start on here.

    People remove captaincy.

Dirty casuals and dead teams don't.

Salah scores a brace and 1 bonus.

Dirty casuals and dead teams win again. 🙂

I've seen the future and it's glorious! 😆

    Adrian
    Ogbonna / Gomez / Robertson / Otamendi
    Salah / Son / Sterling (v) / Lingard
    Kane / Aguero (c)

    Fabi / Kenny / DCL / Carroll

Already did Morata & Alli > Aguero & Sterling. GTG?

    Am I G2G?

    DDG

    Otamendi - Jones - Azpi - (Mee/Bruno)

Salah - Sterling - Arnautovic - Pogba (Obiang)

    Kane - Firminio - DCL

Looking to get rid of DCL next week?

"Shaw looks set to continue his run in the side despite the return of Ashley Young. “Luke has done very well recently, played very well. I’m really happy with him. I can say in this moment, I don’t see many left-backs better than him."

    Bargain?

Add Danilo and got some serious cheap cover from both UTD and City?

    Agree?

Anything to do with a Rose / Shaw swap .... Rose is already unsettled and now Jose is suddenly saying Shaw is the best left back

Rose isnt going anywhere near UTD and to be fair they have kept 3 clean sheets in the 3 games his played.

Firmino but I'm looking to move him on possibly as I want Mane.

Got my eye on Shaw and Danilo but looking at the fixtures, Maguire.

So my situation is that I'm fairly comfortable in mini-leagues, but would like a better overall rank (currently 95k). Have Kane and Salah (as do rivals) and Kun (who they don't). Who to captain?

    A) Kane (safe option, especially as rivals will captain).
    B) Kun (risk and reward option).
    C) Salah (good fixture, everyone owns, ill).

Which WC team would you suggest?
    A)
    Pickford
    Alonso / Jones / Stones
    Salah / Sterling / Arnie / Shaqiri
    Kun / Kane / Wilson
    (Elliot / McArthur / Dunk / Mbemba)

    B)
    Pickford
    Alonso / Jones / Stones
    Salah / Sterling / Arnie / Mahrez
    Firmino / Kane / Wilson
    (Elliot / McArthur / Mee / Mbemba)
