Dugout Discussion – Brighton vs Chelsea

Gameweek 24 begins by the seaside as Brighton host champions Chelsea at the Amex Stadium.

Despite notable absentees for Chelsea, there is keen interest from a Fantasy perspective.

The Blues defence is heavily backed and, with five clean sheets from their last six Gameweeks, we should perhaps expect further returns against a goal-shy Seagulls.

However, with Thibaut Courtois missing through injury, there is disruption in the Chelsea rearguard, which could mean that owners of Marcos Alonso and Andreas Christensen may well be forced to seek attacking returns.

That’s not out of the question given that Antonio Conte’s side rank second for attempts from corner kicks, while Brighton have conceded more goals from dead-balls than any other side, including 12 from corners.

Elsewhere, the inclusion of Michy Batshuayi in Conte’s line-up suggests that Hazard will be sparred a false nine role, with Chelsea perhaps lining up in a 3-4-2-1.

Brighton’s formation is also significant, as Chris Hughton mirrors Chelsea’s three-man defence by handing a start to Connor Goldson alongside Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy. That’s a situation to monitor given his price tag of just 3.9.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Can't wait to see him in a good squad, he's like Hazard in needing good players around him to perform but damn... he performs alright!

I find it hard to have good will for him after the way he completely shafted Everton

Barkley deliberately chose to turn Chelsea down in the summer so that he would get a bigger signing on bonus, and Everton would get a much smaller fee, knowing he wouldn't be fit enough to play for Everton again

That's a piece of shit move, to the club you've been at since you were 11. Sterling/RvP doesn't compare at all imo

Us Chelsea double defence owners are very very lucky as of now, a Brighton goal will happen though.

If VAR was used properly reckon the first Brighton penalty shout would have been given IMO.

And by 'properly' I mean rather than give some guy in a booth in London the call, let the on-pitch refs watch all the replays and make the call. It is unlikely a guy in a booth miles away is going to overturn a ref's decision as it would piss off the on-pitch refs.

The guy in the booth should be used for things like offsides where you need technology to put up the lines etc.
