To expand on my point: if you have no other fires to put out except Christensen then get rid. If not, the fixtures are there to retain him for now. I do think you have gotten unlucky owning him as the potential value plain to see.

      Pickford
      Alonso - Christensen - Jones - Otamendi

More so because my defence is horrific.

By all means, It's a really really good team.

Personally I wouldn't play just 1 striker, but your midfield and defence are seriously good so hopefully it'll work for you!

I've been a 3-4-3 man since the dawn of time so even though I feel its a good team the lack of strikers is slightly scary. I think its more a mental thing, as the likes of Mahrez and Son are scoring similar to Aguero and Firmino for less.

        similar to mine

        i have :

        pickford
        alonso jones danilo vvd
        salah sterling sane mahrez arnie
        Kane

i'm not sure what to think, i'm partly happy but I am craving firminho mainly so a change to a 4-4-2 possibly but also mane or hazard...

if it wasnt for these 3 i am happy. (will swap Danilo soon of course)

do you see 4-5-1 good long term or are you looking to change too?

I've only just got here. I just decided Mahrez is better value than Firmino and Aguero. With Jesus waiting to come back and Firminos usual 5 game blank coming up I'm struggling to find a reliable striker, so I decided to go all out defence and midfield.

great i thought exactly the same :

arnie & mahrez probably better than firminho and any other striker right now fixture wise...& man city mids and salah are fixture proof (id only change son if i were you due to the next fixtures, which coincidentally is the difference between our mids sane/son :))

but thanks for your post, your confidence in this gives me confidence to continue with the formation, just one slight tweak in the defence and im done i think

            Long live the 4-5-1!

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

      Spurs replacements

The Double Gameweek 22 hangover still carries on for many with the likes of Alli, Son and Eriksen still in our sides.

With three tough games coming up now looks the ideal time to swap one of these Spurs assets out.

What are your plans for your Spurs midfielders? Keeping hold? If ditching - who for?

And what of Kane - is he ditchable over the next three - for Aguero perhaps? Or is that too bold a move considering the Tottenham talisman's explosive potential?

I scribbled down some guesses at Kane v Aguero scores over the next 3 games. Including a hit to get Kun in and a hit to remove him in 28, the scores were coming out about par between the 2 for most scenarios i considered. However captaincy was the real swing in favour of Kun, as I dont think i would captain kane in any of the next 3, whereas I would certainly captain Kun for at least 2 out of the 3 games.

I already did Eriksen to Mahrez prior to the weekend. Now looking at Alli to Shaqiri and Kenny/Schindler to Alonso for my two frees ahead of GWK 25.

But two tempting other swaps remain.

Hazard has an incredible track record against Bournemouth. He could be a great captaincy pick. The problem with this move is that I'm not sure I want Hazard long term.

Kane to Aguero (c) and Alli to Shaqiri. The priblem with this move is less about Aguero (c) and more about whether Salah(c) is better. Would be annoying to make this bold move and then see my current captain Salah outscore the Argentinian.

Odd rest perhaps but Alonso is still number one choice....especially while Emerson gets up to speed. I only want Alonso for GWK 25-27 if he's blanking GWK 28.

          Hey J-dizzle

Kane to Aguero I think feels a bit unpalatable but as a naked points grab it's something I'm trying to think about (mainly because so many people won't do it and it's a bit of a template-buster to go Kaneless... sound familiar??), however I probably won't have the cojones to actually go through with it.

A plethora of options available for Spurs mids, both in terms of straight (ish) swaps to maybe a City midfielder to take advantage of aforementioned naked points grab with Sane and perhaps Silva on the list. Liverpool (forgotten Mane) another destination. Your boy Mahrez. Or even a release in equity is on the table with the likes of Shaqiri, Choupers and even Walcott entering the discussion now.

I for one am quite pleased about the changing of the guard a bit - hoping it'll lead to slightly more diversified team compositions as this weekend for me at least rammed home just how boring it can be when your side is shared by everyone else!!

I agree with your last sentence so much. As despite me owning about 9 of the current "template", I still somehow ended up scoring about 15 points below the average! Still trying to work out exactly how that happenned.....

Haha hey! How are you doing?

Nick and I have ended up in the same situation this week, same score somehow and the same players to go. For me that's just unacceptably dull so I think for my own entertainment I'm tempted to take a -4 this week to swap things around and get some differentials in. Bad FPL management perhaps, but unlike my counterpart I'm not trying to preserve a top 10k finish after a disastrous H1 and just trying to finish within the top 1% now (50k).

Bottled it on Salah after seeing the flag on Friday as well, but I know this is just grass-is-greener syndrome and if Kane had put a second away I doubt I'd be at all worried. Got him and Firmino to go on 47 so I suspect I'll get either a small red or a small green.

Hey! I'm doing a lot better in real life than in FPL life lol - had a very enjoyable 50k bike ride on saturday afternoon - which was the only way i'd be seeing 50k this weekend as I got home to a FPL score of 11!

Haha yeah out of seemingly nowhere after the DGW a clear and obvious template suddenly emerged, a template I actually wasn't a million miles away from, but not having my differentials perform has seen me leak away about 15 points both last week and this.

Yeah me too. Its funny how you say your first half was disaterous whereas I thought mine was about par, and we're on about the same score, but then I'm not running an FPL podcast and website 😉 Do you feel the pod and site have added pressure on to you? Genuinely interested as I know you have an interest in psychology 🙂

Yeah that illness to Salah was the push i needed to armband Kane. Not dissappointed with Kane though, 8 points is a par score for a captain. Its the rest of my team I'm annoyed with! Yeah you'll be ok, I'm only on 36 with the same 2 to go lol.

Lol wow nice - I was in a car most of the weekend going back and forth to the west country to see my family

I was down in the millions, though - I had 6 weeks of consistent greens to get me back to the 250-300k mark where I'm currently living. I think that to some extent in the early days I was doing things a little bit to differentiate from Nick too much, and also felt a bit compelled to do something if I'd said I'd do it on the pod (often to my detriment).

I don't know if I'd describe it as pressure, but I think the potential for cognitive dissonance and openness to charges of hypocrisy can definitely play a role if you are giving advice but then as the week progresses you realise that it's better to not follow through with that advice. The pod is for obvious reasons early on in the week and sometimes things do change - so I try to underline the fact a lot that we are not positioning ourselves as experts like Eggers and co, more as just guys who are FPL geeks but not inhuman FPL monsters and susceptible to group think and the need to belong (despite my knowledge of psych being more in depth than most perhaps)

I'd say the big factor for me has been exposure to more platforms than before, when I was FFS-only. Now we have the Twitter and I'm on that as well (I'd describe that as FFS on crack) I have so much exposure to the meta and the herd-mentality than before (Nick's far more busy and important than I am so he has less time to do this - to his benefit) which definitely seeps into my psyche when making a move.

Oof. Think it's just one of those weeks really. Treading water and hoping the red arrow isn't too large

Yeah was really good, which also made me feel less guilty about eating out twice over the weekend haha! Cool, hope you had a nice time 🙂

Yeah thats true, you've fought back well though! I had a similar season last year but got to 70k after being in the millions too, which I was happy with. This season has felt like one long water tread! Still enjoying it though of course.

Interesting points, cheers 🙂 I think you have to play your own game for your own sanity as much as anything haha. As you say so much can change in a week, both in terms of your own view as well as influence from others, and the pressers, midweek games etc aswell. I don't think its very fair to accuse anyone of hypocricy as we are by our nature thinking about decisions right up to the deadline each week.

Yeah this season has opened my eyes to so many more resources than before on FPL too, which I think will be to our benefit on the long run. I'm personally just still at the point of working out which advice to take and how to apply it to my own team, as well as coming up with my own ideas of course!

Yeah indeed. I'm trying to work out whether I've been more unlucky than usual this year or made poor decisions. Missing out on 4 clean sheets from Christensen, owning Sane for 7 weeks for the return of 1 assist, owning Firmino for 8 weeks for 1 goal, bringing in Aguero only for him to be involved in a car crash, bringing in Silva only for him to have an ill son, bringing in Ramsey only for him to have a hamstring injury seems a bit unfortunate to me.

Was my grandmother's birthday so I ate out twice as well... still trying to shift my "holiday weight" 😀

I'm still enjoying it too - to some extent I think Jonty hit the nail on the head a little while ago when he said the season he enjoyed most was last when he had a poor start and had to fight back. I'm in the same boat now (obviously coinciding with starting my podcast and my team being more on display than ever... you can't make it up!) but it's actually quite a fun challenge in some ways; the usual slog of being around the 10k-50k mark and going up and down through the course of the season had started to drag, even if I had a bit of a disappointing end note on 21k last year.

It's crazy isn't it? So many sources now - we started at the same time as a few of our newfound friends did and there's definitely a wealth of advice out there. Some good, others not so good, of course.

Yeah that's unfortunate and I share your experiences. I wildcarded in GW6 to pull my team apart and specifically bring in Kun so I feel your pain there! I think every hit I've made this year has been instantly punished too (on -30 at last count) whereas last year I was hugely in the black when it came to hits paying off. Lots due to luck I think - thinks like Otamendi having 7 8 7 before I bought him and now has returned me 2 -1 2... really not my fault that kind of thing, though it can feel like it at the time!!

                        😀

Yeah exactly, I ended up loving the end of last season as I scored 403 in the last 4 weeks to claim podium finishes in 2 cash mini leagues and win the guff LMS competition with the final kick of the season, was quite the AGUEROOOO moment! 😀

I'm not good enough to have ever bobbed around that high up lol, so I'd probably find it quite thrilling at first, but its all relative isn't it? I can certainly understand how frustrating it would get after a while. There certainly is, and the impact is its probably making us all better players, so the general standard is going up, making it harder.

Yep I wildcarded then too, nightmare eh? Yeah if you read topmarx's HOF articles you will see the points gained from immediate transfers are way down on last season, and this is from elite players, so its definately a trend. Why i cannot say, most likely a statistical curiosity. Haha yes, most likely ill luck, although possibly stones yet to play his way back into form and the loss of delph hasn't helped their defensive unit.

Kane’s PL record against the three teams
          Started : 19, Scored: 11, Assists: 2, Home goals: 7, Away goals: 4, Won: 4, Drawn: 9, Lost: 6, 3 double digit hauls ... not so bad ?

I have already sold Eriksen as planned for Salah

          Hold Kane
Son - review closer to the deadline but no urgency to sell

No GW22 hangover to worry about, stomach lined with a few Spurs for GW28 blank

But Kane's record against the big boys this season isn't great.

I think we place too much emphasis on such historical stats and not enough on what a player is potentially capable of in the ‘here and now’ ... nevertheless .., 4 goals home to Arsenal, 1 goal home to Utd, 2 goals away to Liverpool - that’s 7 out of the 11 goals as the fixtures fall.

For me ‘form over fixtures’ every time, and unless Kane is injured I won’t be selling

I do agree Kane is on beast mode this season but historical significance plays a role like kun vs Newcastle. I capped kun only based on that. Its same as Kane vs arsenal or hazard vs bou. Top players get points against all teams but they do favor some teams with a kind of setup favorable to their attributes and it cant be ignored

If I had Kun against a weak team such as Newcastle I would captain him irrespective of history - teams, players and style all change

Likewise I would captain Kane, Hazard and Kun against Bournemouth because Bournemouth play an attacking style and leave space to themselves be attacked .... not bothered at all if they have blanked or hauled in the past against them

Not in to this hocus pocus stuff, I just look at the style or strength of teams and react accordingly

Each to their own though 🙂

I would still captain Kane in the same fixture again, same as I would TC Kun again this season if he had the same DGW fixtures as last season.

The reasons can be right, but the result doesn’t always work out 🙂

Seems like there's a fire sale all of a sudden.

I only have Son and haven't made any plans yet, could just about afford to switch to Mahrez but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm priced out by the time the next deadline comes around which is when I'll be considering making a transfer. May well end up holding for another match at least.

I wouldn’t call Arsenal at home a tough game... so they’ve only got two tricky games on the bounce, then a sensational run of fixtures. Three is too much, but Kane and Son still look good to keep.

Might do Son to Mahrez, but Lingard to Shaqiri may be a better transfer. It would also allow Mane instead of Mahrez the week after.

Cup games will hopefully make my decision for me.

It depends from Arsenal - Chelsea Carabao semi-final result. If Arsenal advance, I will sell Kane and one of mids to aquire Hazard and Firmino (I already have Kun). Then before 28 GW or 27 I will swap Kun for Kane.

I only own Kane and already got Aguero and Firmino.
Might just ditch kane to Vardy (?) and try to replace Christensen and Lanzini with Alonso & Mahrez.
With some ITB and hopefully price drop, should be easy Kun to Kane at GW29...
then again injuries/suspensions/BGW has not been factored in in this plan obviously 🙂

I wildcarded partly to take advantage of this fixture shift for Spurs, and partly because the problems were piling up for my squad.

Kane and Son both out, got in Aguero and Mahrez. Keeping Aguero for 3 gws, then switching back to Kane for the run in.

My rule this year with Kane is one learned through hard experience: if you think he’ll haul, he won’t, and if you think he’s got tough fixtures, he’ll haul. So I’m keeping.

Son, however, I’m not sure about. There’s few like for like replacements at his actual price (£0.1m in the bank) so it would be a downgrade one way or the other.

Not removing Kane, punished me too many times.

Don't have the money to do Son to Mahrez so will likely keep him too.

Way I'm looking at it is I have 3 transfers left before a possible GW28 blank for City/Utd/Chelsea/Arsenal players.

If that happens I have 6 players from those clubs and only 4 bench spots to keep them.

So I'll be focusing on being able to field 11 players, using my transfers to switch Christensen and Lingard (probably for VVD and Shaqiri) and possibly Depoitre for someone I know will play GW28.

In the comfortable (and not so comfortable) position of owning Kun & Kane.
Said I would get Kun if Jesus got injured and so did so in GW22.
Thought I could get away with it if Christensen was playing.
Son was always going for Mahrez.
Along way to go to next GW with City & Chelsea assets possibly 2 games in that time.
Am considering Kane out to sort out defence as not captaining him next 3 GWs. Then swapping Kun to Kane when Jesus comes back into contention.

Son's form/pts have been at home. Not done a lot away from home. But also a strong possibility Alderweireld could be back for Utd game which could easily see Son benched.
RLC out for season. Coleman back for Kenny soon.
Bit maverick but i'd look at a -4 taking Kane, Son and a weak defender out for Firmino, Mahrez and a stronger 3rd defender maybe P.Jones but leave funds for Kun to Kane (when Spurs fixtures pick up & Jesus is back to threaten Kun starts).

Likely to replace Eriksen with Pogba, Mkhi or Walcott, depending on BGW28 news. These downgrades allow me to upgrade DCL to Vardy 🙂

The problem is that it seems too early to have faith in Walcott, and the other 2 may blank.

I sold Kane in GW18, but will likely get him back by GW28 at the latest, hopefully for free.

Keeping Son, his home form is too strong to knee jerk out after one blank.

Keeping Kane, he's doing nothing wrong apart from not playing for City last week or being Argentinian last week.

Selling Alli, big game player, scores against all the big teams but 3 Spurs is a bit much and would feel happier with 2, if it's Son V Alli, Son wins purely because he's more exciting to watch and can explode against anyone, Liverpool could not live with him earlier in the season and the Arsenal defence is there to be got at, only United looks tough to me but this is now must win for Spurs or they can kiss goodbye to the top 4 dreams and will playing in the Europa in their new stadium, expect them to go for United in a big way.

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 25

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will be selected at random at 8:30am Wednesday and then asked to submit their XI by 5pm next Monday by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

The champion will be revealed in a midweek Scout Squad article, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual in the Scout Picks article.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

Kane > Firmino would allow me to get the following team:

          Ederson
          Alonso Rüdiger Jones Bavies
          Mahrez Sterling Arnie Salah
          Kun Firm

          Bench: Elliot Dunk Milivojevic McBurnie

Would need to do it over several weeks as it would mean getting rid of Pope, Ogbonna, Zanka, Kenny, Lingard and Kane. Looks pretty good I think. Thoughts?

It does, but I'd reassess after the league cup games midweek. Because if Chelsea and city make the final then you're going to be left in gw28 with potentially no playing keeper, 3 of your 5 defenders with no fixture (potentially 4 if rose plays over Davies that weekend), no sterling or kun, and McBurnie starting (if he plays).

Could do yeah. Other option is to go without Davies or Rudiger as i think these are the weakest links in your posted team - both are expensive rotation risks.

I have Hune, RLC and DCL and 1.5itb, which transfer to priortise first?

I am considering Hune -> Maguire at the moment, team below:

          Courtois
          Otamendi Jones Azpi Duffy
          Salah Sterling Son Lingard
          Kane Firmino

          Bench: Adrian, RLC*, DCL*, Hune*

Your defs are very playable for next 3, so probably RLC if out long-term.

Downgrade DCL to mcburnie and use the money to upgrade RLC to someone decent like Shaq. Ur defence is totally fine so hold on that. Use/save ur FT to sort out 1/2 for those premium defenders that are blanking in GW28

No. I'd be reluctant to cappo a defender but you could be on for 12 points minimum which sounds semi-decent to me.

            Team:

            Lloris
            Alonso - Maguire - Masuaku - Kenny - Dunk
            Salah - Sterling - Son - Lanzini* - Richarlison
            Kane - Firmino - Quaner

*Lanzini has picked up a hamstring injury - hence the plan to bin him but will not make any move until Monday pressers next week*

            Best gw25 moves?
            A) Son + Lanzini > Sane + Shaqiri (-4)
            B) Kane + Son + Lanzini > Aguero + Hazard + Shaqiri (-8)
            C) Lanzini > Shaqiri (FT)

Down to 400k OR and losing ground in ML's so looking to do something a little different

Please don't mention Mahrez. I will get him in, but not fancying him this week.

Probably already discussed here but is Sanchez to United likely to limit Mata's minutes more than anyone else's? Lingard likely to continue in number 10 role?

No idea personally, but from others' comments Mata apparently most likely fall guy & views are mixed on whether good/bad for Lingard.

Chelsea could complete deals for Dzeko and Emerson in the next 24hrs, according to Sky. Emerson could potentially rotate with Alonso when fully fit which would bring an end to Alonso being FPL gold
