Watchlist

The Watchlist – Steven Fletcher

Having failed to find the net in each of his previous five Gameweeks, Steven Fletcher picked the perfect occasion to get his bandwagon up and running ahead of Sunderland’s strong upcoming schedule. A goal and assist at Fulham finally ended the drought that had seen the Scot fall off Fantasy radars but his return to scoring ways at the Cottage last Sunday has led to plenty new investment this midweek:

With the Wearsiders set to welcome four teams to the Stadium of Light in the next four, including a double Gameweek 16 also on the cards, the appeal of a forward who has had a hand in 70% of his side’s goals is obvious. Granted, the Black Cats have only notched 10 times but with six goals and an assist to his name, Fletcher has averaged six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points per game since moving to the club from Wolves last summer.

Indeed, the lack of goalscoring alternatives amongst Martin O’Neill’s charges makes Fletcher all the more enticing an option. Every time he’s found the net, he has also picked up maximum bonus points – a total of 15 is the equal of Robin Van Persie and has been bettered by just one player, Carlos Tevez (16), over the opening 12 Gameweeks of the season. This has boosted Fletcher’s FPL total to 60 points – considering John O’Shea is his closest outfield rival at Sunderland, with 35 points, it’s fair to say that the forward stands head and shoulders above his team mates right now.

While O’Neill is desperate to address the lack of attacking edge that has mustered just three goals in four fixtures at the Stadium of Light this term, the defensive form of their upcoming visitors affords optimism. West Brom and QPR roll up next and, with neither side managing an away clean sheet so far, Sunderland will be confident before a tricky trip to Norwich, given the Canaries’ recent resolve at the back. Chelsea and Reading then arrive in double Gameweek 16. Similar to West Brom and QPR, the Royals have conceded in every away fixture so far, while Chelsea have failed to keep out their opponents since Gameweek 5.

Priced at 7.0 in FPL and 7.7 in the Sky Sports game, Fletcher offers an intriguing mid-price alternative to the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and Rickie Lambert over the short-term, at least. O’Neill’s side could hardly wish for more obliging opponents over the next few home fixtures and if the Black Cats are to scramble up the table, it’s more than likely that Fletcher will have a significant say.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Need to bring in someone from Utd frontline, I'm not getting so much from Baines and feel 7.5m too much with City and Arsenal in his next 3, Norwich's backline looked really solid last week, very tempted to go:

    Baines > Garrido
Berba or Ba > Rooney (Can't quite afford RVP)

Ridiculous or am I right to think against QPR some Utd coverage is a good idea?

Just done a bit of research into the next 6 games for everyone.

IMO, the strong are: Arsenal, Man United, Liverpool, Sunderland ... and Norwich and QPR have an okay run as well.

The weak: Everton, Swansea, West Ham

I'm really thinking of sacrificing Baines, in order to free up funds for a possible RVP, Suarez, Giroud strikeforce. Not until after Suarez gets his 5th yellow though!

Finding a decent keeper for 5 or less to rotate with Migs is tough. Tremmel and Guzan have poor rotation, Ruddy's 2nd rise has caught me out and means I can't get Billy Jones unless he falls, Clyne rises or I sell one of Baines, Rafa or Huth.

Do you think it is a good idea to get Charles N'Zogbia into my team for GW 19?

No, certainly not. Unless, of course, you are building a team of the Premier League most inconsistent players.
        1) He is not a regular starter for a struggling team
        2) This one a little more obvious, he plays for Villa (a struggling team).

With Lambert now consistently playing Agbonlahor, Weimann and Benteke expect the midfielders to have to do excess defending and the strikers to make most of the assists and score most of the goals.

Difficult to tell. The first half of last season he barely played but in the second half he assisted nearly every game. He just hasn't look like he is about to fire just yet, however similar to many of his teammates. I would also advise that you stick with two United players for the time being. I obviously don't know your full team and budget available however I suggest that you look at Silva and Cazorla, it has taken a little while to get started but now look to be coming to top form. Silva is now showing why he was priced 10.0M at the beginning of the season. If that is not possible, I expect Fellaini to pick up again after 3 tough upcoming fixtures and like the look of Michu again back in the 'hole'.

I would also advise you to look at Liverpool cover, with fantastic upcoming fixtures. If you do not have any Liverpool cover I would consider Raheem Sterling, and if he continues of the left of the front three then Jose Enrique. Jose as a defender gets six points per goal, a great chance of BP for attacking displays but also Clean Sheet points for doing little defending.

If you have a fit Starting XI then I would wait with my transfer until Tuesday and again consider your options.

      Team for the GW is:

      Bego
      Baines / Clyne / Gorkss
      Bale / Sterling / Barfa / Walcott
      RVP (C) / Tevez / Berba

      Subs: Jussi, Fellaini, McAuley, Nelsen

      1 FT, £0.3m in bank.

With Barfa, Walcott and Fellaini not playing, I'm tempted to do Barfa to either AJ / Sess / Larsson.
Was also considering getting in Silva, but not sure how, and possibly Enrique.

Any other thoughts? Thanks for the help!

I like the look of your defenders, most being cut-price options.
I would probably remove Bale to get in Silva, giving you a spare 0.3M in the process.
I would probably wait another week or two to decide which Sunderland mid to purchase. I really do not fancy the look of Larsson and Johnson as they look too inconsistent. On the other hand, Sessegnon could be a great purchase, especially playing in the 'hole' but I would wait to decide if he can deliver agin, thus proving he can be consistent.
Apart from that I really cannot see any flaws with your team.

        Good luck.

Hope you see this, but thanks Paul! Have decided to go with Barfa to Sess, as I already have Tevez as City cover anyway.

I have been planning on saving my WC until last ten games or so, but have just seen that the Jan wildcard can be used right up until end of GW 24, leaving 14 GWs with no WC....

Might be time to play it next week.
