The Numbers Game – Attacking Full-Backs

With clean sheets so scarce again this season, Fantasy managers have been largely forced to look to their defenders for attacking returns. With budget options also proving popular acquisitions, there is a drive to identify those defenders who can perhaps offer supplementary points to add to those rare occasions when they can keep their opponents at bay.

Thankfully, the role of the modern-day full-back in the Premier League also appears to have changed, with the emphasis now on joining the attack and helping provide a stream of opportunities for others.

In this latest article for our members, we cast an eye over those full-backs who have recently impressed in this area, assessing those most likely to deliver those occasional assists that can make all the difference to our Gameweek totals.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Want to get Lambert out, have 1 FT and 4.4 in the bank.

Obvious choice is Defoe leaving me with 2.0m, but really want Bale when he's back next week...

I need Monsieur Gorkss off of my squad (for a week at the very least, I am satisfied with the rest of my squad so I can afford a punt and then switch to another defender).

Reasonable choice given Fulham's fixtures, but that CMF DMF role is typified by 2pts most weeks. I prefer a more attacking option for that price. Puncheon especially. Having said that he is on pens and I always have a soft sport for Sidwell after his successful loan spell at Brighton a few years back.

Sorry for the repost but need some opinions.:

      Foster,
      Enrique, Cameron, Demel,
      Cazorla, Michu, Fellaini, Sess,
      RVP, Tevez, Berba.
      Subs: Fed, Cuellar, Puncheon, Clyne.

Got 1 FT and 2.3m in the bank. Should I
sort out my GK situation by doing Fed>
Begovic, or should I do Sess> Silva
instead? Or maybe Tevez to Suarez?

Definitely don't do Tevez to Suarez. After all the heat Mancini had to deal with, I'm pretty sure he'll start Tevez during Christmas season, especially since he can't afford any slip ups. Plus, ManCity have favourable fixtures coming up. I wouldn't get Silva since you already have Tevez. I wouldn't recommend Begovic since he's got some pretty tough fixtures coming his way but I'd definitely recommend changing Foster, maybe to Szczesny since he's got pretty decent fixtures coming up and is moderately priced.

So a repost from the last page, is it worth a -4 to do Enrique to Johnson this GW or would I be better accepting a probable 0 from him and that he'll be back next week? I have no bench at all to come on in his place and also have Sterling in the starting lineup who may not play 🙁

So it turns out only Clint Hill would sneak into this table in 20th place if it hadn't been filtered by crosses, surprised it didn't take more work than that. Still, it will need to be checked each week if Mark wants to make sure it still works 😉

Cheers for the advice (and compliment) on the last page Doos, but still not sold on Gorkss > Neslen. Bench player for bench player (who may play this week only if Enrique doesn't).

Sell it to me! Do we think QPR defenders are realistically start-able yet? Is bringing Mert in not a good idea?

        Just to be clear, it's:

Enrique (doubt), Cameron, Shorey (Nelsen, Cuellar)

        OR

Enrique (doubt), Cameron, Mertesacker (Shorey, Gorkss)

What midfielders do people fancy this week?

I need a Sess replacement but no-one tickles my fancy. Maybe Dempsey?

think long term. Not sold on Dempsey long term, but yes, this week in Bale's absence a great option.

I'm personally keeping Sess this week as all replacements aren't back until next week or are doubts (Chelsea mids, Walcott, Bale, Puncheon).

Guys I have a big dilemma:

Should I play it straightforward and replace Cuellar with Manu/City defender

      OR

play it cleaver, save the transfer and leave room for Cuellar -> 4.0 defender and Sterling -> Bale/Silva next week.

I'd go with the latter. Davies is a good choice for 4.0m. Plus, Bale's price is likely to decrease by next week.

Sess > anyone seems a popular transfer right now.

Is there any merit to playing Sess (and get Bale next week if available)?

What about taking a punt for this week only? e.g. Sess > Dempsey / Cazorla
