The Numbers Game – Budget Midfielders

Starting the season priced at just 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Raheem Sterling quickly cemented his place in many a five man midfield thanks to a consistency of game time under new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. Handed a first-team chance in Gameweek 2, the winger rose steadily in price to 5.7 as the bandwagon showed little sign of slowing down but a run of 16 consecutive starts was brought to an end in Gameweek 18, with Rodgers citing signs of fatigue in the youngster’s play:

With the arrival of Daniel Sturridge added to Fabio Borini’s return from injury, the attacking options are increasing for the Merseysiders – having started just three of the last six, Sterling’s owners are starting to get twitchy. He’s now dropped in price to 5.5 but, with a 17% ownership, remains the most popular sub 6.0 midfield option in the FPL game at present. As winter wildcards continue to be flourished, we take a look at the upcoming six Gameweeks and, in accordance with our Rate My Team projections, analyse the likely protagonists for those Fantasy managers eyeing up a potential transfer out…

Which combination gets your vote long-term?
    A Cuellar, Clyne and Aguero
    B Rafa, Nasty and Fletcher

The Rafa and Nasty pairing looks good for a fair few CS points, but woudl it be enough to outweigh Aguero?

      A. aguero should score very well and cueller should keep a good number of cleanies. plus clyne will chip in with the odd goal, assist or cs

and united defense is still shaky. don't trust them tbh

Just wondering, if I hit the WC button now and then one of my players gets injured in the FA cup, am I fecked or can I still make unlimited changes until the deadline?

    Thanks

Yep unlimited changes. You can't get players backin for the price you sold them for however. E.g. If you sell shawx for 5.5, he'll cost you 6.0 or whatever his current price is to get him back in again

Keep an eye out for your players dropping below the price you paid though and you can quickly sell them and buy them back to save 0.1. Eg, I had Benteke at 6.6m and sold him before he dropped to 6.5m so I could get him back now if I choose to and spend that 0,1 elsewhere.

The only thing you lose is money if you decide you want to buy back a player you sold and lost value on. The wildcard is for all gameweek not just for Christmas.

The wildcard conudrum now seems to have develped into

"which team do you not want attacking coverage of, liverpool, chelsea, or city"

for my money its chelsea or city with the rotation maniacs in charge.

    Morning all,

    My team is:

    Begovic - Federici
    Mariappa - Davies - Martin R - Wilson - Sagna
    Fellaini - Walcott - Mata - Noble - Gerrard
Ba - Van Persie - Suarez
    Bank: 1.1
    1FT

Obviously I'm very weak in defence, inc Wilson won't return for weeks and Martin likely to get displaced. I'm happy to sit on my front 8 for this week... Thinking:
    A. sagna to zab
    B. Wilson to obrien
    C. Martin to onuoha

    Any preferences or other suggestions?

    UNITEDNATIONS SAYS:

Decided to use my WC in gw25:D..so this is the team for gw24:

    Begovic
    Rafael Hughes luiz* (demel Davies)
    Michu Walcott fellaini bale (Nolan*)
    Rvp berb podolski*

Have 1Ft and 0.1m. For a 1 week punt, what would you recommend?
A: luiz >> huth/zabaleta/azpil…apart from huth, don’t expect city/chel to keep cs bt already have begovic..never taken a doubling up gamble before

B: podolski >> dzeko if dzeko is in the starting lineup

C: luiz + podolski >> Baines + dzeko (-4), if dzeko isn’t in the starting lineup, then will do benteke

Currently leaning on C, it’s the flair option:D.

I'd have RVP Sturrudge Tevez or RVP Suarez .... No point in doubling up on united.

FFS has strong reliance on underlying stats. That's fine if there's a cause-and-effect, but I suspect something is wrong because the stats are constantly predicting player performance that never materialises .... Taarabt a good example.

My transfer plans all seem to boil down to Fellaini vs Bale (with Mata,Michu, Walcott and a cheapie). For me it's suspension-risk versus inconsistency...but obviously Fell allows the extra cash to invest elsewhere. Should I let the extra cash steer the decision (assuming it's wisely invested!)?

Gut tells me Fellaini because he's cheaper and their scoring potential is similar.
Heart tells me Bale - he's a proven performer. I'm also concerned Fellaini's numbers will drop off second half with improved performance of Jelavic, Mirallas etc.

Exactly! Summed it up perfectly Home Run; I just think the potential to get Nasty with the spare cash, swings it the way of Fellaini. I know however that once every 3-4 weeks I'll be kicking myself...

The thing is with Evra is his price tag. 7.1m is a lot to be investing in one player in defence. Would you prefer Evra & Demel or Nastastic & Apzi? Because they are the same price. Evra may be the best defender in the game at the moment but his pricetag means that there may be better options.
