Scout Mission – Gameweek 16

There may be a few days until the deadline but, as always, we’re already casting an eye over the upcoming set of fixtures. Here’s the scenarios and line-ups on our radar for Gameweek 16:

Silva’s game time
Back with a goal in Tuesday evening’s Champions League win over Bayern Munich, the Spaniard is already being cautiously considered by Fantasy managers. Silva has picked up a couple of injuries this term but, like many of City’s main attackers, has looked reinvigorated under Manuel Pellegrini’s guidance – with three goals and a trio of assists in just seven league appearances, he’s averaged six points per game so far. A start and a fine performance against league leaders Arsenal this upcoming Saturday could well persuade those on the lookout for a differential – Silva’s 3% ownership looks hugely tempting.

Michu’s goal threat
The Swansea man is another premium-priced option to return from injury earlier in the week. Though, handed the full 90 minutes up front in Monday’s home game against Hull, Michu failed to produce the goods, as Michael Laudrup’s side stuttered to a 1-1 draw – he’s blanked in his last six appearances now and is down to 8.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). The Swans boss conceded his star man had struggled with injuries for a number of weeks prior to being sidelined and, if he can step up his match sharpness and impress away to Norwich this weekend, Michu may well present us with another alternative for a midfield shake-up.

Deulofeu’s impact on Mirallas’ minutes
Climbing off the bench late on in Sunday’s match at the Emirates, the youngster’s superb equaliser denied the hosts victory and ensured Everton received a well-deserved point. Having served up a goal and assist in his first start for the Toffees in Gameweek 13, Deulofeu has been tentatively used from the bench in each of the subsequent two trips to United and Arsenal, but a run of four home games in the next six looks ideal for Roberto Martinez to hand him further first-team opportunities. Kevin Mirallas’ owners would have been eyeing up this run of games as a potential source of points but will now be a little uneasy in light of Deulofeu’s recent showings – despite his classification as a forward, a price of 5.4 and two goals and an assist in his last 124 minutes suggest the Barcelona loanee may even be worth a real punt if Martinez affords him an extended run in the side.

Liverpool’s response without Gerrard
Liverpool have yet to officially confirm it but it seems all but certain their skipper will be ruled out for the festive period with a hamstring injury. Having limped off against West Ham on Saturday, Gerrard’s absence will be a major blow to Brendan Rodgers’ side – he had scored or assisted in nine of the last 10 league games in an incredible run of consistency. Luis Suarez owners will be looking for the silver lining here – the Uruguayan could well be on spot-kicks in his skipper’s absence but, with a trip to Spurs this weekend and visits to City and Chelsea in the next four, the Uruguayan’s threat may well be diminished without Gerrard pulling the strings in the centre.

Rooney and van Persie in tandem at Villa
With Suarez and Sergio Aguero proving mainstays in many a frontline, and the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Loic Remy offering mid-price options with form and favourable fixtures to follow, faith in United is low at a time when the schedule smiles kindly. Despite their side’s stuttering displays, the United front two have impressed in recent matches – Rooney has four sets of double figures in his last six, whilst the Dutchman has scored in all but one of his previous five appearances in the league. Free from suspension and injury and sitting in just 13% and 18% of FPL sides respectively, their ownership levels are relatively low enough to shake up the rankings if they can plunder the goals at Villa and boost their side’s ailing title bid.

Palace’s resilience at the Bridge
The Eagles’ trip to Chelsea this weekend is Tony Pulis’ first real test since taking the reins last month. Palace have conceded just once in the three games under their new manager but Jose Mourinho’s side have been particularly lethal in front of their own fans and have scored at least twice in every home game so far – if Palace can frustrate and limit the Blues on Saturday, faith in their budget backline options is likely to see further investment – aside from Danny Gabbidon, their defensive regulars are all owned by 2% of Fantasy managers or less.

Ozil’s Form on the Road
The Arsenal playmaker has been outstanding at the Emirates but has so far struggled to replicate that form on his travels. Ozil has produced just three assists in six away appearances – blanking against Swansea, West Brom, Palace and United so far. Certainly, his previous away appearance (an 11 point haul at Cardiff) bodes well but, with the Gunners facing a City side that have conceded twice at home all season, he faces a tough task to produce.

Brady’s Role at Home to Stoke
The Tigers playmaker is on borrowed time now after warming the bench for the full 90 minutes of Monday’s draw at Swansea. Three sets of double figures in the first six highlighted Brady’s top-flight capabilities but, since picking up a hernia problem, he’s never been quite the same and, looking short of confidence, was taken out the firing line at the Liberty as Steve Bruce opted for Maynor Figueroa on the left of a 3-5-2 instead. At present, Brady still sits in over 8% of Fantasy teams but if his manager doesn’t turn to his talents against the Potters, the exodus will surely pick up pace.

Would still start Collins, though on another note Adam Johnson would be an awesome two-week punt -- don't have the money or transfers to do it myself, but that might be a high scoring match.

Trying to figure out from FPL/tfpl who Gerrard sellers are bringing in -- it looks like the vast majority of them are shipping for Hazard. Some movement on Yaya, and very little movement on Silva, Walcott, Coutinho, Michu (Transfers In, Round):
    Hazard CHE 9.8 47195
    Lampard CHE 7.7 16864
    Yaya MCI 9.6 16215
    Nasri MCI 8.3 13972
    Ramsey ARS 7.6 13051
    Özil ARS10.3 12166
    Oscar CHE 8.8 7373
    Silva MCI 9.1 5203
    Coutinho LIV 8.6 3630
    Michu SWA 8.5 1277
    Walcott ARS 9.1 505

I'm a Hazard owner but damn that's a lot of ownership in one basket.

exacty. if he's expecting more money, he could be using the current situation to his advantage.

also strikes me as quite clever how throughout the whole summer he didn't give a single interview or quote about the transfer saga. everything was generated by the press.

won't expect anything different. if he signs, he'll just say he always wanted to sign blabla. if he moves on, he'll say the time was right for a new challenge.

He's not an idiot - he's basically waiting to see what it best for his career in his opinion.

If United fail to make the Top 4, he may want to move on to another club in the CL. It can't all be about money, he's already very well paid.

Was Van Persie an idiot for jumping ship at Arsenal at a time when they weren't in the mix?

I'm a United fan by the way, we'll survive whatever Rooney does. Better players than him have left the club.

I wanted him to leave last season when he begun to act up, let Kagawa play his role with RVP up top. We didn't have the spine to tell him to get stuffed and now he has us exactly where he wants us. I don't blame him in this case though, United's squad needs some serious revamping.

I was convinced Rooney leaving was the best thing for the club. If SAF was still around he'd be gone. Moyes bent over backward to praise Rooney throughout this whole period and Rooney's got everything wrapped around his finger now.

The squad def needs revamping and Rooney could and should be the first one out of the door.

Though I do think he is a professional and he will do everything he can to have a good season and earn the club a decent transfer fee if anything. He owes us that.

            I think so too.

Certainly he is a great player, would be sorry to see him go but at the end of the day if he's unhappy, as indicated by these numerous issues, he needs to leave for greener pastures. Last thing I want is a player who I love to see playing for the team I support not wanting to be there. It's why Lewandowski has gone so far down in my estimation (although a big part of that is the fact he wants to join his team's main rivals).

Utd fans are an ungrateful bunch. Only player performing for you this season, he is doing what practically every other high profile player does. I would suggest it's the ego's of Utd fans is bigger than their grasp of reality.

Not true. I haven't lost my grasp on reality as a United fan. I've just been talking about this with my pet unicorn, and we both agreed a period of adjustment was inevitable. Moyes needs to buy well in the summer and have a good clear out - Young, Anderson etc. 4th is a realistic target this season, and a good cup run would be a bonus.

I'm more frustrated with the situation, it shows a lack of real spine at United. He's acted up a number of times and has been given his way each time. Been the only one putting in the graft certainly and he's kept us chugging along but I wish he'd either commit for more than 6 months or feck off, it's too up and down. I swore 2 months ago he was delighted at United by what he was saying about being much happier playing more forward etc.

I'd rather we sold Rooney and kept our dignity in tact than let this chavvy little runt dictate terms to us, when he isn't even that good in the first place. So what if he's been our best player? That isn't saying alot, it's time for a major overhaul at OT, and all mercenaries need to be let go, so let's start NOW in January

United and SAF keep harping on about no player is bigger than the club. But this Rooney saga and the ones of seasons past have shown that Rooney is not like any other player to the higher echelons in the club. I think it's very much a case of RVN when he was keeping the team together while SAF built a new young core of Ronaldo, Rooney, Carrick, Silva twins.

Exactly. Why is it when a player underperforms and gets dropped for pure footballing reasons, is the first reaction from the player to throw a strop and hand in a transfer request, ask for more money etc?

It's absolutely insane, imagine if the real world was like that. slack at work, i know, let's question the company's ambition.

It doesn't add up, but i suppose it wouldnt when every man and his dog seems to love Rooney, especially the fickle press

If he wants to continue playing Champions League then he could always return to Everton, since Robbie Savage is tipping them to finish 4th ahead of Liverpool, Spurs and United. Didn't he used to say "Once a blue, always a blue"? Don't think he'd like the pay cut at this stage of his career though.

But would Everton actually want him back? When he left Everton for United all those years ago, Everton's results immediately improved. Why? Because they were no longer a one man team and so the rest all had to learn to play as a team instead of just relying on regular miracles from their star player.

Chester would be decent, cheaper than 4.0 too!

happy to take a hit if its gonna help = loathe to get rid of Zab though he seems to return me pretty good points. JEvans is happy to go though.

Not sure I have enough to get Lukaku even if I sack Zab.

Not bad fixtures at all, though I'm always skeptical of their defense over the long haul -- anything that can get you from Long to Lukaku/Remy has to be a nice move.

Hi, some advice would be most welcome. I have two free transfers, no extra cash in the bank and a modest hill to climb in league rankings. My current lot is:

    Migs,

    Coleman, Debuchy, Dawson

    Hazard, Ramsey, Nasri, Barkley,

    Suarez, Lukaku(C), Aguero(VC)

    Lewis, Coutinho, Turner, Ward

I think the midfield is where I can make gains. Question is who?!..Nasri and Coutinho have been meh, although they show flashes of promise. Ozil, Michu, Silva, Walcott, maybe an outside shot on Schurrle who I quite like...very open ended question I know!?

    Thanks!

I have a similar midfield dilemma.
      Ramsey, januzaj, Oscar, Nasri, Coutinho...

What do folk think of Coutinho?? Been in and out of my team all season - always looks promising, often looks a bargain - never delivers: one goal, one assist. He's just all foreplay and no penetration - very frustrating!

BUT little else convincing around the 8.5 area. Lower priced - Schurle is tempting, but doubtful gametime. Same for Mirallas. Veering towards Cabaye (post suspension) .

      Help?

Ay up. Trying to figure out some differentials as everyone else in my league are starting to get the exact same team. Team's worked well for me recently but need a few extra points...

        Howard
        Merts, Johnson, Shaw (Yanga-Mbiwa, Baker)
        Ozil, Ramsey, Hazard, Shelvey, (Lallana)
        Lukaku, Aguero, Saurez (c)

        Thinking one of both from

        Merts/Johnson > Distin or Jones
        Yanga-Mbiwa > Chester

Merts is a risk but can swap for cheaper Kosc in a week or two. Have a feeling Man U are going to come back and with Jones in midfield could be worth a punt. I could just play safe though and only go Yanga to Chester for no hit.
