Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Sunday

Sunday has a lot to live up to and, from a Fantasy perspective, it looks to be little more than a scouting mission.

None of today’s four participants have a double fixture in the Gameweek, meaning that, in Fantasy Premier League terms, they’ll be few assets on show that will influence our Gameweek tallies.

Even so, Tottenham’s White Hart Lane encounter with Southampton should tell us plenty about the remaining prospects of their players over the run-in. Similarly, Aston Villa go into their home meeting with Stoke looking for a third consecutive win, with Christian Benteke certainly up for consideration as an end of season differential.

As always, you can look to our Twitter feed for news of today’s lineups, while our Dugout Discussion chatroom is warmed up and ready to go for those looking to scratch that real-time reaction itch.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Thought Soldado Played well today some lovely touches but they bought him to score goals. Eriksen set plays in the hole is a must

Flanagan looked totally out of sorts for the first half though he did greatly improve in the second. poor kid needs a rest i think. Sakho is just a hunch. Sterling looks set for a start tbh.

Lallana & rooney to silva & sturridge (-4). That was my boo boo this week. Not my worst of the season so I can live with it.

Repost.. got my math wrong and posted the 29th post 🙂

AJ and Sterling to Mutch and Lallana for free is really temptin.. on a scale of 1 to no brainer its a no brainer right? Team is

    Mannone (Adrian)
    Baines Coleman Azpilicueta (Dann Chester)
    Hazard Silva Yaya AJ (Sterling)
    Suarez Lukaku Sturridge

Dont really want to carry AJ all the way to GW 37. Lallana got some gr8 fixtures and mutch looks the perfect 5th mid

OR.. Get Snodgrass and Mutch in instead leaving enough cash for Aguero in for Sturridge if required in a couple weeks

    Who else getting lallana in?
NEW CAR avl EVE swa in the next 6. my only worry is that Southampton slowly have nothing to play for and are disappearing into mid table obscurity. and sure it was just a one off but him being taken off before 60 mins vs norwich is a tiny red flag

    Long post coming up.

The Yaya hattrick has forced me into a bout of introspection.

This season has been poor mainly because I've messed up with most of the 'big hitters'.

Yaya, Coleman - haven't owned at all this season.
Ramsey - just had him for one week (he scored 1 point)
Aguero - in my team for three weeks (out of which he was injured for one)
Sturridge - had him pre-injury but never got him back
Hazard - have owned off and on, went for Oscar over him on January WC and missed his hattrick

Even Suarez - Planned forever to bring him in as soon as his ban was up, but his comeback was against United in the COC, and - in a bout of Suarez hatred and United love - went for Lukaku instead. Paid dearly as it took me 5 more weeks to finally bring him in.

The fact that it's not a couple of the big hitters, but almost all, who I've failed to capitalise on makes me think that my foreshadowing on this account is fundamentally flawed. Without delving deeper, I have a feeling that I would find something similar if I analyze my past season performances.

At the same time, I could've been a lot worse off than I am. The only part I've gotten right this season is getting on and off player wagons at the right times. Not the season keepers, mind you, but the Nolans and Cazorlas.

Successes - Benteke, Cazorla, Ozil, Walcott, Cabaye, Chico, Adebayor
Fails - jRod (from the start), Townsend

The three main components of a successful FPL season - the season long performers, the ones who bloom and wilt (Ozil, Benteke, etc.), and the captain choices. Consistently doing well on two of these three counts will result in an above average season, but to get into the top 5k, all three are essential.

    What d'you guys think?

    *Rant over*

Suarez broke the normal formula. Leaving captain on him for a couple spells got you 30-40 points + whatever the other 10 got. If you didn't do that you slipped 3-4 GWs worth of points behind no matter what you did for the rest of the season
