Scout Scribbles – Hazard Worry for Victorious Blues

Eden Hazard picks up a calf injury as Chelsea move into the last four of the Champions League thanks to goals from Andre Schurrle and Demba Ba. Wayne Rooney seems set to return for United’s crucial clash with Bayern tonight. Leon Osman is expected to be available for Everton’s double Gameweek. Aaron Ramsey looks to pick up where he left off after returning from injury, whilst Grant Holt is keen to nail down the Villa lone striker spot over the final five Gameweeks:

Hazard Limps off as Blues Squeeze Past PSG

Chelsea’s Champions League win over Laurent Blanc’s side came at a cost last night after Eden Hazard lasted just 18 minutes before being forced off with a calf complaint. The Belgian’s replacement, Andre Schurrle, grabbed the hosts’ opener before substitute Demba Ba notched a dramatic late goal to ensure the Stamford Bridge side progressed on away goals and reached the last four.

After the game, Mourinho went on to say:

“It is a calf. After 10 minutes he was saying he cannot do it and even when muscle injuries are not serious it is normally a couple of weeks out minimum, but I have no idea of the dimension of the injury. “

Hazard, meanwhile, offered up his own take on the problem:

“I had already felt some pain in my calf during the warming-up. I didn’t want to take a risk.”

The Scout Says: A spell on the sidelines for Hazard would have huge repercussions across the Fantasy games. The Belgian is the second most popular midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, with an ownership level of 39%, but has been sold on by 40,000 managers already this week after he was used as a sub in Saturday evening’s win over Stoke. With Mohamed Salah and Willian both impressing against the Potters and Schurrle grabbing a goal last night, Mourinho may choose to court caution with the player’s fitness in order to ensure Hazard is sidelined for a minimal amount of time as he chases the silverware on two fronts. With games against Swansea and Sunerland up next, Salah could be a real punt to consider after serving up a goal and assist last weekend on his first start last week – the Egyptian (at 5.5 in FPL) is ineligible for European duties – whilst Schurrle, at 6.9, could also be set to benefit. Given that Man City are poised to play twice this week, many will be prepared to part company with the Belgian and either opt for Yaya Toure, David Silva or Samir Nasri in midfield or perhaps purchase a cheaper option in order to free up the cash for a move for Sergio Aguero, should the Argentine be passed fit.

Injury Worries Ease for Moyes

The United boss was boosted by the return to training of a number of players as he prepares for this evening’s vital Champions League clash with Bayern. Wayne Rooney, Patrice Evra and Ashley Young all look to be in contention after picking up problems over the weekend, whilst Jonny Evans also stepped up his injury recovery by turning out for the club’s reserves on Monday evening. In his pre-match press conference, Moyes strongly hinted at a return to action for Rooney, who looks to have recovered from the toe problem that ruled him out of Saturday’s trip to Newcastle:

“Wayne was able to train and he is massively keen to play. He’s not trained all week so we have to be wary of that. We’ll do everything we possibly can. He’s happy to take an injection to play in the game, which shows you his feeling about the game and about the club. We think it’s okay. We wouldn’t do anything medically wrong. We’ve taken advice from the doctors and the people who advise us. Everybody knows the type of character Wayne is and he is determined to play. If he is determined we would be mad not to give him that opportunity.”

The Scout Says: Sitting seventh in the league and seven points off fourth spot with only five matches remaining, United’s chances of qualifying for next season’s competition look slim. From a Fantasy perspective, the Red Devils’ elimination would be the ideal scenario, with Moyes’ recent domestic team sheets heavily influenced by his side’s Champions League duties. Rooney has scored four times in his last three league matches but last week’s omission from the St James’ Park win, coupled with a blank this weekend, has seen over 100,000 FPL managers part company since his injury was announced late last Friday. With the prognosis looking positive on his toe, however, Fantasy managers will be once again be making plans for his acquisition – now down to 11% ownership, Rooney welcomes Norwich in Gameweek 36 before back-to-back home clashes with Hull and Sunderland the following week. Given that Everton play City in Gameweek 37, Romelu Lukaku owners will be looking for ways to free up cash in order to facilitate Rooney’s acquisition, once the Toffees upcoming double Gameweek 34 is done and dusted.

Osman Boost for Toffees

The Everton midfielder was back in training yesterday after being forced off with an eye injury with less than 10 minutes on the clock in Sunday’s win over Arsenal. In an interview with the club’s official website, Roberto Martinez was optimistic that Osman will be in contention ahead of the Merseysiders’ double Gameweek which sees them travel to Sunderland this weekend before hosting Palace at Goodison the following Wednesday:

“Knowing Leon, he will be ready and I will be very surprised if he doesn’t make the squad for Saturday.”

The Scout Says: With Ross Barkley also confirming his calf problem “is feeling better” after replacing Osman at the weekend, Martinez’ squad looks in good shape for their pair of upcoming fixtures. The versatile Osman has now started eight of the last nine league matches – bearing in mind Martinez’ recent rotation policy, he was perhaps due for a rest this weekend, but having been forced off so early in the 3-0 win, he could return to the starting XI once again. Kevin Mirallas and Barkley have both been the subject of significant investment already after racking up 23 and 24 FPL points respectively over the last four Gameweeks, but with all but Steven Pienaar to choose from in the attacking midfield areas, Martinez’ numerous options could frustrate Fantasy managers once again.

Holt Looking to Cement Starting Role

The Villa frontman is determined to fill in for the injured Christian Benteke over the run-in. Handed a rare start against Fulham last weekend, Holt notched his side’s only goal in a 2-1 home defeat and went on to say:

“When someone does what Christian does they are always big boots to fill, but you can only do what you do. I’ll just play the game the way I do and everyone else can make their own mind up. People will say I played well on Saturday and there will be people who say I didn’t. Some people you can’t keep happy, it’s just football. I’ve been waiting to play and you don’t want minutes because of what’s happened but when it comes it’s an opportunity to rise up and put a performance in.”

The Scout Says: Arriving on loan from Wigan in January, Holt has been a peripheral figure for the Midlands outfit up until now. Prior to last week’s appearance, he’d managed just 47 minutes in the previous seven Gameweeks, but with Benteke and Libor Kozak both nursing long-term injuries, he looks likely to earn further starts for Paul Lambert’s side. Priced at 5.1 in FPL, Holt – who also bagged a couple of bonus points in the Fulham defeat – plays fellow strugglers Palace and Fulham in the next three and also has a double Gameweek 37 on his agenda, with a home match against Hull preceding Villa’s trip to the Etihad.

Ramsey Keen to Finish Season Strongly

Having finally cemented his comeback from injury by climbing off the bench in last weekend’s loss at Everton, the Welshman vowed to make up for lost time. With an FA Cup semi-final against Wigan this weekend and the Gunners still firmly in the battle for fourth, Ramsey revealed:

“It was very frustrating for me to be out for three months of the season when things were looking so good. These things happen in football and I am just glad to be back out there now. Hopefully I can show what I can do, help this team achieve Champions League football again and hopefully have a medal at the end of the year.”

The Scout Says: Despite being absent since Gameweek 18, Ramsey‘s tally of 114 FPL points has still not been bettered by any Arsenal midfielder. Granted, that’s a damning indictment of his team-mates’ displays but also highlights just how crucial his contribution was over the first few months, with eight goals, six assists and 15 bonus points accrued. With his side toiling, he looks likely to return to the starting line-up for Tuesday’s home game against West Ham, and with trips to Hull and Norwich on either side of back-to-back home showdowns against Newcastle and West Brom, Ramsey – now down to 6.9 – has the schedule which could bring him back onto Fantasy radars for the last few matches, with 13,000 already snapping up his services this week.

For the people selling (or going to) Hazard, are you planning to get him back in if he's only out for 2 weeks or is this it from here?

If Chelsea go all the way in the UCL then Shurrle or Salah may be a better pick in FPL... I am planning to do Hazard to Schurrle...

I had sort of decided that, if Chelsea got through, I would sell him even before he got injured. Combination of a dip in form and possible rotation

If he was nailed on he'd by my top priority but with Martinez rotating mids so frequently - regardless of their performances in some cases - I'm going safe with Baines.

    B. Get Eriksen this week

That would be an option if Hazard is out longer term although, even then, could there be rotation (Schurlle / Salah?). This is an advantage of the Mirallas option as I get an extra week to decide between Eriksen, Schurlle, Ramsey, etc

Posted this a while ago, new crowd so wanted to know your opinions!

    The Trifecta…and Lambert

Good afternoon to all the readers here at FFS. Today, I present to you my argument of owning the ultimate trifecta;Nasri,Silva and Yaya as well as yes you heard it right, Ricky Lambert.

As you may know, most of the discussions around here are focusing on the Dzeko-Aguero conundrum with many of you confused as to who to bring in. Well I present to you the most simplest, and in my opinion, the best possible solution for gameweek 34 and beyond. Dzeko and Aguero (at a very pricey 12.0) in all probability will share minutes in the upcoming double with neither getting the entire quota of 180 minutes. I recommend not purchasing either of them this week let alone captaining them, even if Pellegrini says that Aguero is fit because he has played 74 minutes in the premier league this year. Surely he will be eased back into action. I am a City fan myself and have looked around at quite a few of our forums, and trust me no one other than Pelle knows his starting 11 this week.

Now have a look at benefits you will derive from owing the trifecta:

-maximum use of City resources with guaranteed starters
-City face Sunderland,Palace,WBA in the next four=Goals Galore! and you’ll have 3 nailed attackers
-City with another double gameweek to follow
-CS points for the three mids will get you 3 points, only 1 less than a defender gets for a cleanie
-Will allow you to take advantage of budget options such as Lambert who now with JRod injured will be a)nailed on and b)will lead Southampton’s attack against Cardiff(H) and Villa(A) being the next two. Tasty! Then you can easily switch to Ade for his fixtures against Stoke,WHAM and Villa
-Most importantly, you will not lose any sleep over the Dzeko-Kun conundrum

I know Hazard being injured has made my job in writing this a whole lot easier, but even if he wasn’t, I would have recommended losing him to own these three midfield dynamos. Another point I want to highlight is that good single gameweek options should not be ignored. So it is important not to get blindfolded by the double gameweek alone by forgetting the less flashy, but more practical options.

Hope you had a good read!

You're right. Nasri and Silva are always more likely to get assists than goals, Silva in particular, and you will never be sure which one will get an assist. This way you cover it for most of the time, but you will not get them goals and you will pretty much always have an expensive midfielder or two scoring just 2-3 points.

It's precisely that the "all provide one assist" (below) is not at all confirmed. YaYa's Silva's and Nasri's involvement in City goals is between 20% and 30% each. Combined involvement 77%. That is quite high indeed, means that 3 times out of 4 in average one is involved. But Aguero's is 50%. It means that for every second goal he really is involved.

That is, when they play. now, if Aguero is fit, he will certainly play each and every match, or between 60 and 70 minutes of it. YaYa the same. neither is currently guaranteed to be fit. Worse situation is for Silva, who is told not to be 100% fit and who may be rotated with Nasri. If Pellegrini returns to two striker system where Aguero combines with Dzeko (or Negredo), then either Silva or Nasri tends to get dropped. You will have that midfield covered, of course, but it comes with a price: you will almost always end up with one useless expensive midfielder, you will not get Aguero's big hauls, while you restrict yourself to one midfielder from any other team.

The trifecta can all provide one assist each to Aguero and Aguero may well end up scoring a hattrick in each game 😉

The problem is the first part 'all provide one assist' is more or less confirmed but the second 'Aguero may well end up scoring a hatrick' isn't because it could be Dzeko too.

I would happily take assists though 😀

I considered this earlier and have come to the conclusion that there is a major flaw with this idea. In no way will you want to keep all 3 city midfielders for the remainder of the season, you limit the rest of your midfield to just 1 other option (where presumably you start 4 midfielders). It limits your options significantly and Nasri is almost always a transfer waiting to happen (4pts essentially). If you get Aguero now you'll probably want to hold onto him for the rest of the season saving yourself a transfer later in the season.

Cheers for the reply, I do get your point but why wouldn't you want to hold on to Nasri for the games I mentioned? And its not as if Hazard will be back before 'two weeks minimum' according to Mou

Hazard isn't the only alternative. Eriksen, Lallana, Ramsey, Gerrard etc. These guys could all boss it in midfield. If you limit yourself to just Hazard it will be mighty tempting to sell Nasri/Silva for one of those guys at some point. As I said, it'd be a transfer waiting to happen. With Aguero you can have the confidence in keeping him for the rest of the season, baring injury of course.

Good point actually, but I am trying to go big this week with the 'more nailed on' options and then reanalyse my options later. You never know I may sell Lukaku for Rooney and Yaya to Mata before the double. Nothing is certain in FPL!

eeeeeeexcept that YaYa and Silva appear to be carrying injuries, so maybe it would be wise to have one of them and Nasri and then maybe a City defender? CS points for 2 midfielders and one defender are still 3 more than they are for 3 midfielders, plus defenders are odds on for bonus points when they get CS and midfielders are much more likely to be subbed of before 60 minutes. You would also still have another midfielder - obviously there are also valid midfield options in teams that provide you with cheap forwards. Good single gameweek options should not be ignored. 😉

Anyway, Aguero's scoring rate is so much better than that of any of those midfielders, or any forwards bar Suarez for that matter, that if he just is proven to be fit I would not lightheartedly pass his services in FPL.

Some interesting stuff to consider but you said it yourself:

"No one knows the staring XI"

So with Toure and Silva carrying niggles (the former losing pens if Kun returns too), Jovetic back in the mix, Aguero is not the only complication to the matter. Let's not forget Navas, who's been excellent in parts too. If you have either and one picks up an injury, you have another City midfield option at a similar price. All three and one goes, you're Navas or broke.

Now consider that Aguero has the capacity to score far superior returns, far more frequently than the others in his side and the picture is even less clear.

Good option, but nothing is certain in FPL.

And I'd rather gamble on the man who could obliterate his rivals given his FPL form, favourable fixtures and extra games.

    Mannone/Marshall

    Hazard/Yaya/Sterling/Snodgrass/Noone
    Sturridge/Suarez/Lukaku

Can get rid of Hazard but i bought him at 9.5! Is Silva fully fit, i saw something a few days ago that he's been playing with a knock?

Need a bit of advice please guys...

I'm stuck between doing the following transfers:

    A) Sturridge>Aguero and Hazard>Lallana - no hits
    B) Sturridge>Aguero, Hazard>Lallana, Gerrard>Silva, Zab>6.9 def 8 point hit
    C) Sturridge> Aguero, Hazard>Silva, Zab>5.9 def 4 point hit

The hits are to get in Silva and Aguero as I'd have to ship out Zab. I can have one of Silva or Aguero without taking a hit but I'm chasing a big lead and I think they will both score quite well. B to me looks the best but don't know if the 8 point hit is justified.

    yaya is fine

The right-back was also relieved that in-form Yaya Toure avoided a second yellow card in the win over the Saints, after the midfielder reacted badly to a challenge late on.

Zabaleta admitted he understood the Ivorian's anger but highlighted the significance of the help his teammates provided in the situation.

"There was a bad challenge on Yaya; it was not a good one," he conceded. "Sometimes in a game, you can get a bit angry but in the end, it was nothing.
"The players wanted to keep him away because sometimes on the pitch, it can be difficult and you can get angry about decisions. That's when it's important to have teammates who can tell him to calm down.
"There was a danger he could have got a second yellow but it was important that he didn't. He's an important player for us; it would have been a huge loss if we had to be without him for a game like Liverpool."

What do you think to this ?

Despite doing OK in my leagues, I haven't got Yaya. Thinking doing this:

    Hazard -> Yaya
    Dzeko -> Aguero

The first is an obvious one for me but what about the 2nd ??

However, do the 1st one now ? Fancy a price drop for Hazard before Friday ?

I just did Haz>Silva as he is already on 85% for a price drop so I think he defo will by Friday.

I can't see Haz getting much game time in the next couple of games if I'm honest. He's clearly worried about missing out on the WC and I'm sure Jose will want him at 100% for the CL Semi-Final - this is why I shipped him out

    For gw35-38

    a) Zabaleta (meaning Puncheon gw34)
    b) Nasri (meaning Nasri already in gw34)

    Thanks

A trippy forward line would be Lukaku Suarez Dzeko.

Trippy ? That is exactly what I have but not sure if I should replace Dzeko to Aguero for a -4 ?

    Evening geezers.

Still haven't recovered from the hysteria from last night. Almost don't care now if we don't win any trophies this season. Seen enough promise to keep me excited for next season!

Has any one heard about Jagielka is he coming back this week or is Stones hanging on for another week?

Any further news on Clichy? I heard he was just rotated last week. I am hoping he wont play as I have Kolarov

its 50/50 with clichy v kolorov. Depending on the opposition he will make his choice. I seem to notice he plays clichy when his anticipating City are gonna be on the back foot and have to do lots of defensive running back

Made my transfer already this week.

Was gonna play, Silva, YAYA and A.Johnson in MID, but now considering buying erikson for ward-prowse and playing Erikson instead of A.Johnson? But it will cost me points!! (-4)

    Thanks

Current midfield of De Guzman, Mirallas, Eriksen, Yaya & Hazard.

Rivals both have Nasri & Lallana. Who else is worth bringing in (Hazard out)? Way behind so willing to take some deft moves for a gutsy comeback like I did last season, but need someone preferably

Have Yaya + Zaba from MCI. Should i do hazard to silva or nasri. I prefer silva but pelle has raised some injury concerns.
MCI have 3 games in 8 days, do you guys think that Silva will start all of them?
