Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 39

As the final Gameweek approaches, our Sky weekly article draws to a close. Once again, we take a look at the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends.

Gameweek 38 Man of the Match Awards

Here’s a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Aston Villa vs HullAndreas Weimann
Everton vs Man CityJoe Hart
Man United vs SunderlandSebastian Larsson
Newcastle vs CardiffTim Krul
Stoke vs FulhamOussama Assaidi
Swansea vs SouthamptonLuke Shaw
West Ham vs TottenhamHugo Lloris
Arsenal vs West BromOlivier Giroud
Chelsea vs NorwichMichael Turner
Crystal Palace vs LiverpoolDwight Gayle
Man United vs HullAdnan Januzaj
Man City vs Aston VillaPablo Zabaleta
Sunderland vs West BromLee Cattermole

A very even split of awards this week with three goalkeepers, defenders, forwards and four midfielders claiming MoTM. The only players listed above with over 10% ownership were Pablo Zabaleta, Luke Shaw and Olivier Giroud, with many of the others having little impact across the rankings. Going into the final week Eden Hazard, Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez have the joint most MoTM awards for the season, with nine apiece.

Gameweek 38 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more. Brad Guzan was the top performer with seven saves over the two games. Vito Mannone is still top overall with 30 additional points.

In defence, 21 players gathered bonus, seven for tackles and 14 for passes completed – full-back Marcos Alonso was the stand out performer here with two clean sheets and an assist to go with his tackling bonus. Swansea’s Angel Rangel leads the way for the defenders with 28 extra bonus points.

In midfield, 22 players earned bonus points – four for tackling and 20 for passes. United’s Michael Carrick managed tackling once and passing twice over the two games to earn an additional six points. Mikel Arteta is the games top bonus earner overall with 48 extra points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
AgueroMan City9.810.04%
RamseyArsenal5.87%
RooneyMan Utd9.64.23%
OscarChelsea7.64.07%
GiroudArsenal8.53%

Wayne Rooney looks likely to miss out this week whilst Oscar remains a doubt for Chelsea. Sergio Aguero and Aaron Ramsey have been passed fit after recent injuries.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
DzekoMan City8.511.80%
ToureMan City8.67.09%
SterlingLiverpool4.84.62%
NasriMan City6.33.72%
SturridgeLiverpool9.23.68%

The top five transfers in unsurprisingly involve title chasing Liverpool and Man City players. With few teams left with anything to play for it looks a sensible tactic going into the final Gameweek.

High Liverpool score could hurt you h2h this week.

He's gonna bring in Sturridge for Rooney, giving him x2 pool players.

He also matches your city cover.

It's essentially his Gerrard & Sturrige v your Ramsey & Kun.

Could be tight this gw but with a 28 lead I wouldn't get majorly concerned.

Arsenal aren't playing for much but I think Ramsey will start to get minutes under his belt after missing out last week

After 37 Gameweeks, the following is the breakdown of the Bonus Points awarded:

    Total Games: 370
Total Bonus Pts: 2654 Average : 7.2 points awarded per game

    Goalkeepers:152 (5.7%)
    Defenders: 928 (35.0%)
    Midfielders: 864 (32.6%)
    Forwards: 710 (26.8%)

40.7% of Bonus shared between Goalkeepers and Defenders. 59.4% shared between Midfielders & Forwards.

While the share of Baps is definitely shared out very evenly between all areas, there are a few anomalies - Centre backs overly favoured vis a vis Full backs...............probably due to full backs giving the ball away more often given the nature of their position, and of course, the "Defensive" Midfielder has no real chance of bonus points.

Tweaking definitely required for next year IMO, but a reasonable start for the new system and has definitely forced FPL players to look at the centre back area - Mertsacker/Cahill/Terry/Koscielny etc......1 or 2 are essential and there is a fascinating quandary where we must decide to go for the strong CB's for 3 Baps or stick with the Coleman/Baines type for goals/assists.

I have to squeeze Amalfitano into my team somehow as I'm 22pts behind and need differentials...
Who should I drop to the bench from Mata, Ramsey or Eriksen?
