The Midweek Team News – Tuesday

Aaron Ramsey is back for Arsenal. Liverpool’s Jordon Ibe faces up to a month on the sidelines, while the Tigers’ striker Nikica Jelavic could return against Sunderland. West Brom sweat on the fitness of their form forwards, as Tim Sherwood crosses his fingers over Ron Vlaar’s availability. Eagles captain Mile Jedinak could face severe repercussions for his apparent elbow on Diafra Sakho last week.

Aaron Ramsey has been passed fit for Arsenal’s trip to QPR. Francis Coquelin may yet feature in spite of sustaining a broken nose on Sunday and will require a protective mask if selected, though Jack Wilshere and Mathieu Flamini remain sidelined for the Gunners.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Jordon Ibe won’t be available until the end of March, after the rising star sustained knee ligament damage during the Reds’ Europa League clash against Besiktas. In better news, Steven Gerrard is progressing well in his rehabilitation.

Hull City boss Steve Bruce revealed that Nikica Jelavic, who sat out the Tigers’ last match against Stoke City, could be in line for a start against Sunderland, having returned to training on Sunday. However, Robbie Brady has been ruled out for five-to-six weeks with a calf injury, while Maynor Figueroa is a doubt after sustaining a wound against the Potters.

Baggies striker duo Saido Berahino and Brown Ideye face late fitness tests to determine their availability for the West Midlands derby, with the pair suffering from foot and knee complaints, respectively. To compound Tony Pulis’ selection headache, Victor Anichebe is still sidelined with a groin injury.

Newly-installed Aston Villa head coach Tim Sherwood said that Ron Vlaar was “touch and go” with a calf complaint ahead of the West Brom clash but did rule out Kieran Richardson and Aly Cissokho.

Sunderland were successful in their claim of wrongful dismissal with regards to Wes Brown’s sending off against Manchester United, prompting the FA to write off his one-match suspension. In other positive developments for the Black Cats, Gus Poyet declared Ricky Alvarez, Billy Jones and Jack Rodwell available for selection at the KC stadium. Adam Johnson has been suspended by the club following his arrest in light of off-field allegations.

Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson is back in training after recovering from a minor hamstring injury and will be in line for a start against former club Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.

Crystal Palace captain Mile Jedinak has been charged with an act of violent conduct after appearing to elbow West Ham’s Diafra Sakho at the end of the London Derby. If banned, the midfield general would be forced to sit out the Eagles next four match-ups (sot, QPR, sto, MCI), having already been sent off earlier in the campaign against Sunderland – he has until 6pm this evening to appeal.

Finally, Southampton’s defence could be set for a well-timed boost with news that Ronald Koeman will include Toby Alderweireld in his squad if the Belgian came through Monday’s training session unscathed.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

    Morning guys,

I thought I’d put a bit of logic behind my transfers for a 4 point hit –

    ADM to Eriksen
Looks like time is running out for the spritely argentine. He delivered a consistent amount of points but being subbed off early for Januzaj was the final straw. Eriksen offers the DGW and has some decent fixtures on the horizon. He’s not really an assist king and wont get 180 mins but for this GW he’ll do well, imo.

    Giroud to Austin
Now this was a more tricky. Like ADM, Girouds points have ticked along nicely so why sell him? Especially for hit. For me the reason was two-fold my ML rival has Defoe and will no doubt get Austin as his replacement and I am more than happy blocking that. The second reason is more personal, in my ML there is manager of the month prize. There is a flaw in the system FPL so hits taken in the first GW of the month are taken taken into account for your monthly total. So essentially it is a free transfer with respect to the March prize.

Each person on the site is different with goals for the season but in my situation I think these transfers are the right ones. Just need to hope Silva stays quiet.

Decent reasoning but it won't make much sense if Giroud outscores Austin (which as someone who owns neither I think is a real possibility)

      Good reasons for me!

I think similar - people in my mini league with Giroud will probably go for broke so it's probably worth having Austin.

All depends on your team and reasons but I like this.

Not a decent first post of a new article though 😉

      Kane and Eriksen (-4)

Needed a hit to get Eriksen without losing Alexis, Hazard or Ozil.

Dawson in for Trippier to fund it seems like a decent long term move given Burnley's fixtures.

Went DGW crazy for a -8 - all moves that make sense I'd say though - ship out players with poor fixtures / not-nailed in theo's case - still paying the price for that dark midweek night 3 weeks ago where the teams came out pre deadline and I sold Giroud for Defoe and got Sanchez and Walcott in for Silva and Punchy

      Tripper - Rose
      Wally - Eriksen
      Ings - Austin

Feels weird to have made all transfers pre-deadline though, can see myself hovering over the Walters - Phillips button at 7:28 tonight! It's a DGW so criminal not to get at least 5 in!

      Interesting point!

I know Spurs have only kept 6 clean sheets but their fixtures are decent and he offers good attacking returns potentially.

When there isn't this congestion of games he's also nailed on at 4.9m. Decent longer term pick for me.

Better than Toby? I'm not sure, Southampton have kept double the clean sheets!

Curious repost. I don't understand why people think Eriksen or Kane would be benched. They've both got their rest in the last 1.5 weeks or so. Besides they don't have any midweek games before the United game, so that affords Mauricio's group sufficient rest after the Qpr game. I'm sure he really wants top 4.

But he has been pretty poor when he has played. I see it as 80 20 Rose plays both, I just feel Poch will not risk rotating in two vital matches.

I could be totally wrong though 😀

That means Eriksen will 360 mins in 9 days, not sure that's gonna happen tbh considering his performances have dropped recently (presumably due to fatigue). Kane won't be rested, already missed the Fiorentina game.

Really stuggling to see the benefit in a -4 hit to get Eriksen in. I have..

    Ozil | Silva | Hazzard | Cazorla
    Kane | Aguero

    Ozil + Cazorla v QPR
    Hazzard v West Ham
    Silva + Aguero v Leicester

In any other gameweek I would be mad to sell any of these players?

Same midfield except i have Sanchez rather than Ozil.

I'm struggling to convince myself to bring Eriksen in. I don't think I would be tempted at all if it weren't a DGW and I can't see myself keeping him for the duration - I'd rather have Sterling.

I like Coutinho. Just think with Sigurdsson back to face his former club the Swansea game might be a 1-1. Eriksen would need to outscore Cazorla by more than 6 points and thats it Cazorla on gets 2pts.

I made a prediction a while ago that someone random would outscore Kane this week and my money was on Rose but that all depends on minutes.

I'm going for a 4 point hit - Kane, Austin, Eriksen, Rose.

      3 Spurs

      Kane, Erik and Rose.

No way I'm getting rid of Gru for Austin when it would cost me -4 and a future transfer, I wouldn't even do it for free.

I added Vertonghen to the main 3. Security of starts, goal threat, bonus appeal, plus good games in the future.

Kane and Eriksen only. I think it's unlikely the top scoring player this GW will be from Spurs or QPR.

I've gone for Kane, Eriksen and PHILLIPS.

The reason behind Phillips? Next week I upgrade my 3rd striker (Berahino) to Costa whilst everyone else is still messing around with Austin.

Good thinking, for me Austin will be benched so not a problem. Philips was on my list but I couldn't justify getting rid of Puncheon for him, but i think he could do well. 🙂

To be honest it was easy for me because I've been playing 3-5-2 and the extra money in Di Maria just isn't worth it. Phillips in for him this week even with -4 should just about pay off, or make a small loss at worst, but then next week the steamrolling begins.

Kane, Eriksen and Vertonghen, the best player in each position for the good team in this DGW. Could do Defoe to Austin for a hit but not keen.

Got the same four as everyone else - Kane Erik Rose Austin, but very tempted to do a last minute Walters - Phillips move and bench Sanchez. Why not eh, it's a DGW - the FF version of Christmas!

May sound a bit mental but could see Big Matty delivering - 10 chances created since Ramsay came in - if he's good enough for The Puntmaster, he's good enough for me! Also, I like to play this game for fun - sure we're all agreed if Sanchez or Haz do well you feel like 'Yay, I get the same points as everyone else' but when an under the radar gem like Phillips bags the points it feels twice as good

Three - Spurs' usual suspects. Took a 4-point hit to get Rose in, but one clean sheet will repay that and I'm expecting more from the Spurs back four.

How's the rest of the team?
Sanchez much more explosive than Ozil and could be played up front if Gru is rested.

I'm on a WC as well, pondering ditching Hazard and keeping Sanchez - thinking being that I can switch Sanch to Haz for the DGW 34 and Arsenal have better fixtures.
But Hazard has much better form than Sanchez...... arghhhhhh!!

So I need to pick two to play from Cazorla, Giroud and Mane. I'm thinking 1 Arsenal + Mane.

Either Cazorla or Giroud or both could be rested and I'd like to avoid any cameos in a week full of good options. After the scoutcast last night and discussion of Giroud possibly missing out I'm leaning towards playing Cazorla.

    Seem reasonable?

I'd play Cazorla, and probably Giroud as well. If you have a FT then Giroud -> Austin.
