The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk- Taking Liberties?

Three home games and not a single goal conceded- Swansea once again returned a clean sheet this afternoon as Brendan Rodgers’ side finally picked up their first three points of the season.

While the swashbuckling performances of both Manchester clubs provide Fantasy managers plenty options going forward, the Swans continue to offer plenty cut-price options at the back and, in this thoroughly unpredictable Fantasy campaign, are showing a defensive consistency that seems to be lacking the length and breadth of the Premier League.

Michel Vorm defied West Brom at the Liberty Stadium with a string of saves and jumped to second in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goalkeeper rankings- at 4.1 he’s cementing his position as one of the bargains of the season. Ahead of the Dutchman, the likes of Angel Rangel, Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor –the left-back was stretchered off after a clumsy challenge from Peter Odemwingie, however- are all racking up the points right now.

Shipping four goals in their first fixture, it seemed impossible that Swansea would then go on to concede just one in the following four but, exposed to the harsh realities of Premier League life in the Etihad Stadium opener, Rodgers’ side have learned fast. While the likes of Arsenal are hit for four by a side managed by Steve Kean, the Welsh club are defying all expectation with a series of resolute displays.

In a sense, it merely adds to the frustration of many Fantasy managers this season. There have no doubt been a proportion of casual players who initially added Swansea defensive options to their ranks simply due to the low price, allowing their budgets to be allocated to big-money buys such as Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. Hand one of them the captain’s armband week after week and bang- there’s your big points haul right there. No need for tactics.

As the big names bang in the goals, the dirt-cheap options chalk up the clean sheets- this Fantasy lark is supposed to favour the more dedicated player; study the form and the fixtures, rotate as and when accordingly. At present, though, it seems far from it.

    Hey guys.
    Do we think that Suarez, Silva, Nani, Lucas, Agger, Bosingwa, Clichy and De Gea will outscore Enrique, Adam and Dzeko by 22 points?

    My current H2H situation atm. He has lots of players to play but some clash so surely that limits their potential.

        The thinking behind that is that I reckon the way things are going on the defensive front in the league I can afford to have Gabbidon/Ward come in when Bosingwa doesn't play. Not to menyion Dyer in midfield could be decent after the chelsea game to step in for the more expensive players

          I agree about Gabbidon off bench.

          However, I'm prepared to lose Bosingwa when I wildcard if AVB starts rotating him with Luiz.

          A wildcard is too precious to leave expensive rotation risk players in, imo.

    Pretty alright result so far, nothing spectacular. RVP wasn't complete failure, first time got more than 4 p from my captain (10p).

    I also changed Brunt out and put Dyer in on last minute, which was nice.

    After tonights performances thinking of going (of course, depending on results)
    RVP->Adebayor
    Brunt->Mata

        Not really any other alternatives. My big attackers are (beside RVP) Suarez, Rooney & Silva, rest of the midfield is 6-6.5 m hopefuls. In defence, big names are Kompany, J. Enrique & Bosingwa, all justifying their value.

        RVP might make points and has played more and more better. Still, I don't think Arsenal is good enough to have many goals and Arteta, Walcott and Gervhinho are competing of the same scoring chances.

      Always easier to have some suggestions tbh, but....

      1 - Baines has to go

      2 - You need to improve your attack as not having one of Rooney, Dzeko/Aguero is likely to be costly

      3 - Midfield is quite week too

      just my imo

    1 M left in the bank.

    Defense : Baines, Warnock, shawcross, Enrique and De laet

    Midfield : Nasri, bale, Anderson, Brunt Tiote.

    The obvious weak links in Midfield are : Brunt and Tiote. Now my plan is to sell baines and I want to get Mata in midfield.

    I can do this by

    1. brunt - mata which leaves me 5.5 M in the bank to buy a defender

    2. Tiote -> Mata which leaves me 4 M in the bank.

    which option is better guys? I am liking 2 , but will my defense become very poor or is it still fine

    Sorry to be cyber grumpy here but what the hell is with all the RVP love?! Yes he can play, but so can another 4-5 quality and much cheaper forwards playing premier league. The fact that he STILL hasn't produced at round 5 says a lot. RVP is a good player in a shite team, no different to 6-8 other EPL forwards, except he costs a packet... wait til he scores a goal, then wait 2 weeks to monitor the hamstrings, then think about considering him! Urgh!!

          RVP had decent chances (as always). Robinson was good goalkeeper and rain made the conditions awful. Arsenal's attacking was good, but they were mediocre on the first half and terrible on the second.

          Greatest problem was their complete inability to defend set pieces. Song's own goal was also weirdly imcompetent.

          I only watched the 1st half yesterday. Tbh, RVP got into some good positions but without the quality of Nasri and Fabs to pick out those passes the service was limited.

          From what i saw, he was also drifting deep and wide looking for the ball at times which again doesnt bode well.

          At home to Bolton (not with the armband), and i will review then. Having 11.9m tied up in a striker is a lot if he isnt scoring goals. However, on a positive note, you can replace him with almost anyone.

      find it hard that some people claim rvp was poor yesterday
      he had a header tipped over, shot that robo saved very well with chest,he peeled off the centre half and just needed a ball from gervinho and he was through 8 yards out. he had 2 good corners that almost lead to something. his cross was a peach. his build play was good i cant remember a time in 90mins where he gave the ball away. i think it would be a crime if he did not get in the bonus points but i guess the yak was clinical as ever.

    Well as their only out and out striker, RVP for arsenal ended up crossing for chamakh... although he did get the assist but i presume wenger brought chamakh on to PARTNER rvp... and not for rvp to be switched to the left flank... thoughts???

      RVP is a modern forward who roams around here and there, him being out left to cross for a goal doesn't mean he was a winger when Chamakh came on.

    I think Dzeko will play the majority of Prem matches this season with Tevez & Kun rotating in the centre fwd role. The Big man is made for the league. Out muscle the likes of Stoke and other big defences, He's a great target man for tricky situations.

      Is Bolton so rubbish? It gave decent amount of difficulties to both City and Liverpool. I don't see that they are in any more greater peril than Arsenal.

              Oh, so you are making a team for one week then giving up?
              Him suggesting Sinclair is better than your idea of Silva out for Nasri for a 4 pointer last week 😉

    is obertan in for petrov a sensible transfer for next two weeks?

    petrov arsenal(a) chelsea (h)
    obertan blsckburn (h) wolves (a)

    The only thing putting me off is ben arfa is due back soon and am not sure who he will be taking place of. am i right in saying it will probably be tiote? or will it indeed be obertan? any other mids you would suggest for 5.7 for the next 2 weeks?

      Ben Arfa will be in the Carling Cup squad this week, apparently, but how long it will be before he's fit to play 90 minutes regularly is anyone's guess. According to the NUFC fans on here Pardew said he'll play behind the main striker when he does come back, though.

        mmm I think both may score, I'm a spurs fan, i think the game could be anything from 2-1 to 3-2 to spurs hopefully

        Ade 2, suarez 1 would be great

        I think it will be Adebayor. People forget because he's such a moody bast*rd that when not being divisive in the dressing room he's normally destructive to opposing teams. I think 'Arry can handle him and get the best out of him and Carragher - as usual - will struggle to contain him.

          Adebayor has really good fantasy football history if you look at it, he is a steal at 8million should be at least 9-10

            thats why i brought him in. 8 mill is a bargain and i think he will will play a lot of games.certainly the best striker at spurs at the moment if you ask me.

    Present Side:-

    Given/Vorm

    Bos Kompany enrique DeLaet Warnock

    TCahill NZog Moses Yaya Arteta

    Rooney Zamora Dzeko

    Need to now get rid of Timmy/get in Silva(.3 in bank)

    Best options:-

    Timmy/Yaya--> Silva/SWP
    Timmy/Yaya--> Silva/ who else?(Barton/Dyer/Sinclair)
    Timmy/Dzeko-->Silva/Odem(but would then end up wth 2 man city midfielders and also lose Dzeko)

    Feedback plz!

        Wondering, Yaya-->SWP/someone else(max value 7.1)

            S.Taylor is also a possibilty, basically, I am getting rid of Baines and can get anyone for less than 6.8M and still have enough to upgrade Bent to Rooney. My defence is currently:
            Baines, Richards, Enrique, Brown, Bosingwa.
