Scout Picks

Scout Picks- Gameweek Eleven

Before we’re rudely interrupted by yet another two-week international break, the Scout Selection Committee have knocked their heads together once more to come up with a squad ahead of gameweek eleven.

With so many matches looking prosperous for points, balancing the budget proved to be tricky this week. With the Wayne Rooney midfield conundrum thrown into the mix and rotation high on United’s agenda, plenty of options were discussed behind the scenes before we eventually came to a conclusion. Rolling out a 3-4-3, we present to you the following…

It was a toss-up between Tim Krul and Shay Given for a place between the posts but the Toon Army stopper gets our vote in the end. Newcastle will be buoyed by last Monday’s triumph at the Britannia and ahead of a tricky set of upcoming fixtures will be looking to maintain the defensive form that earned them a clean sheet in the last home game against Wigan as Everton pay visit to St James’ Park.

A home clash with Swansea could offer Jose Enrique a chance of points both at the back and going forward. The Liverpool left-back has also returned bonus points in three of his last five games and with Brendan Rodgers’ side somewhat toothless on their travels, Enrique stands a strong chance of prospering.

Having started eight of his side’s ten games so far, Jonny Evans offers a cut-price option at the heart of the Man United defence. With the return of Nemanja Vidic bolstering the champions’ back-line, the 4.5 priced Irishman seems set to benefit from an increased resilience as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side line up at home to Sunderland.

Ten gameweeks into the season and only three players have produced more assists than Micah Richards. With 4 to his name already, the right-back has benefitted from Man City’s more attack-minded approach this term and having been rested in the midweek Champions League trip to Villarreal, looks an assured starter this weekend as the league leaders make their way to Loftus Road.

With four assists and a goal in his last five appearances, Juan Mata is returning solid, if perhaps unspectacular, returns for Chelsea. A goal and assist in the previous game at home to Arsenal suggests he’s becoming more pivotal as the gameweeks go by and with Andre Villas-Boas’ side rolling up at Ewood Park, Mata could be set for a double-figure Fantasy return for the second game running.

Subject of a Watchlist article this week, Aaron Ramsey takes his place in the Scout Picks midfield. The young Welshman has produced 3 assists in his previous three home games and is creating plenty of goalscoring chances for the like of Robin Van Persie and Gervinho right now. A home clash with West Brom could see him plunder the points once again.

It’s impossible to ignore Rafael Van der Vaart now. The arrival of Scott Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor seems to have furthered the Dutchman’s potential with in the Tottenham team and Van der Vaart has flourished, with 6 goals and 11 bonus points in his last five games. A trip to Fulham is by no means easy but he has the form to prevail, regardless of opponent right now.

The next two spaces in our Scout Picks team prompted the most debate. We needed Liverpool and Man United attacking cover and the choice boiled down to Nani and Luis Suarez or Charlie Adam and Javier Hernandez. Both duos had their merits; Adam is just one point behind Suarez for the season so far, is on most of the set-pieces in Steven Gerrard’s absence and Hernandez led the line for United at Everton last week as Rooney dropped deep.

Nani and Suarez, however, are, on their day, capable of explosive Fantasy returns and with that in mind, they won us over. Both face home games with Sunderland and Swansea respectively and offer the potential to score strongly this weekend- we expect them to justify our faith.

Robin Van Persie– we could just leave it at that, really. If you somehow need a reminder: 2 goals in each of his last three home matches, a total of 9 goals in his last five games, the Dutchman is on fire right now. Fresh after a brief midweek sub appearance against Marseille, the Arsenal skipper faces West Brom at the Emirates with an incredible 61% of votes in this week’s Captain Poll.

As mentioned above, a slight concern over David Silva has reshaped our plans. Sergio Aguero is hardly a bad replacement, though; the number one forward in the top-scoring team in the Premier League, Aguero played just sixteen minutes as a substitute at Villarreal in midweek and surely seems set to be named in City’s starting lineup at QPR tomorrow.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    "balancing the budget"?

    A total joke.

Yes we'd all love that team, but beyond changing nearly all the selection rules of FPL, it ain't gonna happen.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE POST THE SCOUT PICK RULES? i.e. there seems to be a budget - what is it?

Mark posted a comment on page 1 or 2 of this article...He basically said he puts those squads up regardless of budget because they pick the best players for the gameweek...and they wouldn't place a second choice player because they lacked .2 on their budget...just take the scouts pick as a glimmer of hope if you have players from their pick on on your squad.

Beginning to think cheaper MCity players like Johnson and Dzeko are worth having cos they mostly either play and score well or don't play at all. Will need 90 minute benchers as backup though.

RVP has form, a good home fixture and is likely captain for lots of people in the top 10%. None of the others have all of that so he looks the safest bet. Having said that he is due a bad game so do you want to risk a differential captain or play safe?

New dilemma! Now Murphy is a doubt I'm considering ditching my resolution not to make any transfers this week. The idea being with 2 frees for the international break I'd be less likely to be tempted into wildcarding next week.

    Given (Vorm)
    Raylor, Simpson, Enrique, Bos (Barnett)
Nani, Silva, VDV (v) (Murphy, Dyer)
    Suarez, Sturridge, RVP (c)

Murphy was due to start but now on the bench.
With so many doubtful or off form players and Newcastle doubled up in defense should I just switch Murphy to Ramsey now?

why would you get rid of silva? sure he might be out one week but if he is he should be back for the next gw because there is an international break inbetween. plus he might play this week! but even if he doesnt he's one of the best players in the highest scoring team and you've probably had him since the beginning of the season so if you sell then you will lose quite a lot of money getting him back later

      how many free transfers?

i'd downgrade brunt as you don't want 6 mil sitting on the bench. if you dowgraded him to allen or dyer i think you'd have about 2.5 in the bank which you could use to maybe upgrade adebayor to hernandez as you already have vdv but dont have any united. or you could downgrade brunt to allen or dyer or moses this week then next week downgrade someone else a little bit and upgrade dzeko to aguero.

not sure what you're gunna do with ba though. you planning on keeping?

you could also consider bosingwa to enrique to get some cash? not sure

    Begovic (Ruddy)

    Assou-Ekotto, Evans, Simpson (Brown, Wilkinson)

VDV, Nani (c), Silva, Ramsey (Sessegnon)

    RVP, Agbonlahor, Ba

Opinions? I know Assou-Ekotto is unconventional, but is as good as Walker IMO, and 0.5 cheaper. Taking a calculated gamble on Nani captain, RVP is the obvious choice but all runs must come to an end some time.

Good point, thanks for the input. I've always had a soft spot for Nani though and with Rooney dropping into midfield, he seems the best Man Utd attacking coverage, especially while Ash Young is out. Keeping Agbon for the home game vs Norwich. If he fails to score I'll look at how to get rid.

    Who to start from:
    Krul, (Vorm)
    Ward, Bos, Enrique, (Wilkinson, Simpson)

Could take out Ward for Simpson...

Why on earth would you have Ward or Bos starting ahead of Simpson?

Would have Newcastle were one of the safer bets for a CS this week.

Interesting question, which players from your current team have you had since from the beginning of the season.

Hi TW. I have Rooney. Just wondering if it's worth -4 swapping him for aguero??

thats a tough one. rooney could get stuck in mf again and not get any goals while aguero could really tear it up. or rooney coudl surprise most people and score. i think the first is more likely honestly but its really a matter of opinion.

do you think aguero will score more than 4 pts better than rooney this week? and would he be your captain?

Of my 7 Midfielders and Strikers this GW, I have 2 Arsenal, 2 Man City, 2 Chelsea, and 1 Tottenham. Big wins for those teams means I have my best GW of the season, and if they don't, I'll have a normal GW.

      let me guess:

      ramsey, silva, mata, vdv
      rvp, aguero(or dzeko), sturridge

that what your frontline looks like?

switch VdV for Milner, and Aguero for Adebayor.

I'm keeping the faith with Ade and Sturridge this week, both had price drops, but are due big scores

So no further rise for VP overnight; thats gotta be proof that no player can rise more than 0.3m in a single week ala Dzeko earlier this season.
