Scout Picks- Gameweek Eleven

Before we’re rudely interrupted by yet another two-week international break, the Scout Selection Committee have knocked their heads together once more to come up with a squad ahead of gameweek eleven.

With so many matches looking prosperous for points, balancing the budget proved to be tricky this week. With the Wayne Rooney midfield conundrum thrown into the mix and rotation high on United’s agenda, plenty of options were discussed behind the scenes before we eventually came to a conclusion. Rolling out a 3-4-3, we present to you the following…

It was a toss-up between Tim Krul and Shay Given for a place between the posts but the Toon Army stopper gets our vote in the end. Newcastle will be buoyed by last Monday’s triumph at the Britannia and ahead of a tricky set of upcoming fixtures will be looking to maintain the defensive form that earned them a clean sheet in the last home game against Wigan as Everton pay visit to St James’ Park.

A home clash with Swansea could offer Jose Enrique a chance of points both at the back and going forward. The Liverpool left-back has also returned bonus points in three of his last five games and with Brendan Rodgers’ side somewhat toothless on their travels, Enrique stands a strong chance of prospering.

Having started eight of his side’s ten games so far, Jonny Evans offers a cut-price option at the heart of the Man United defence. With the return of Nemanja Vidic bolstering the champions’ back-line, the 4.5 priced Irishman seems set to benefit from an increased resilience as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side line up at home to Sunderland.

Ten gameweeks into the season and only three players have produced more assists than Micah Richards. With 4 to his name already, the right-back has benefitted from Man City’s more attack-minded approach this term and having been rested in the midweek Champions League trip to Villarreal, looks an assured starter this weekend as the league leaders make their way to Loftus Road.

With four assists and a goal in his last five appearances, Juan Mata is returning solid, if perhaps unspectacular, returns for Chelsea. A goal and assist in the previous game at home to Arsenal suggests he’s becoming more pivotal as the gameweeks go by and with Andre Villas-Boas’ side rolling up at Ewood Park, Mata could be set for a double-figure Fantasy return for the second game running.

Subject of a Watchlist article this week, Aaron Ramsey takes his place in the Scout Picks midfield. The young Welshman has produced 3 assists in his previous three home games and is creating plenty of goalscoring chances for the like of Robin Van Persie and Gervinho right now. A home clash with West Brom could see him plunder the points once again.

It’s impossible to ignore Rafael Van der Vaart now. The arrival of Scott Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor seems to have furthered the Dutchman’s potential with in the Tottenham team and Van der Vaart has flourished, with 6 goals and 11 bonus points in his last five games. A trip to Fulham is by no means easy but he has the form to prevail, regardless of opponent right now.

The next two spaces in our Scout Picks team prompted the most debate. We needed Liverpool and Man United attacking cover and the choice boiled down to Nani and Luis Suarez or Charlie Adam and Javier Hernandez. Both duos had their merits; Adam is just one point behind Suarez for the season so far, is on most of the set-pieces in Steven Gerrard’s absence and Hernandez led the line for United at Everton last week as Rooney dropped deep.

Nani and Suarez, however, are, on their day, capable of explosive Fantasy returns and with that in mind, they won us over. Both face home games with Sunderland and Swansea respectively and offer the potential to score strongly this weekend- we expect them to justify our faith.

Robin Van Persie– we could just leave it at that, really. If you somehow need a reminder: 2 goals in each of his last three home matches, a total of 9 goals in his last five games, the Dutchman is on fire right now. Fresh after a brief midweek sub appearance against Marseille, the Arsenal skipper faces West Brom at the Emirates with an incredible 61% of votes in this week’s Captain Poll.

As mentioned above, a slight concern over David Silva has reshaped our plans. Sergio Aguero is hardly a bad replacement, though; the number one forward in the top-scoring team in the Premier League, Aguero played just sixteen minutes as a substitute at Villarreal in midweek and surely seems set to be named in City’s starting lineup at QPR tomorrow.

Evening all. I have 1 FT burning a hole in my pocket and Ward and Bosingwa annoying me so I'm not sure whether to stick or twist for this week.

    Current Team:
    Vorm, Krul
    Enrique, Bosingwa, Ward, Raylor, Naylor
    VDV, Silva, Nani, Eagles, Moses
    RVP, Adebayor, Sturridge

    1.7m in the bank.

    So my questions are:
    A) Do I transfer out one of Ward or Bosingwa or keep the transfer for next week?
    B) If I do make the transfer, which of those two should it be?
    C) Who do I switch to - Jones, Evans, Richards or another suggestion you lovely people may have?

Making the transfer would certainly save me the question of which one of Ward/Bosingwa to play and may allow me to catch price rises in the case of Jones/Richards but it would be nice to have 2 for the international break. Dilemma.

Keep Ward for 1 week. Get rid next. Wigan at home is about as good as it gets for a Wolves defender.

Why doest anyone have Zamora instead of Sturridge? Strurridge hasn't done much in recent games

Fulham have tough games coming up and have gone off the boil a bit since their 6-0 win vs QPR. Sturridge has only not scored in the last two; admittedly he was shocking against Arsenal but before that he was sacrificed for a defender after half an hour against QPR. I'm backing him to return to form and nick a goal at Blackburn.

Plus, with their newly attacking style I reckon you need at least one Chelsea attacker for most of the season; Sturridge is the cheapest. I'll be looking at Mata as he may be a better bet long term though.

      That's a hard hitting midfield.

You have RVP but I'd want a better striker than Ade & Sturridge right now. Ade might seem to get in the right positions but the boy couldn't score in a brothel. Hopefully he proves me wrong as I have in my team!

Jones would be ideal but considering Fergie's chubby for Evans at the mo he's a good shout too.

Yeah I've pondered that as well. When I was gonna WC after this week I was pretty set on Ade -> Suarez for one week only but I've been persuaded not to WC so I thought I'd give Ade one more chance as 'pool have tough fixtures after this week and there's no one else I'm desperate for. I like Bendy, Graham and Hernandez but the first two have tough ones this week and I want to make sure Hernandez is definitely nailed on before I bring him in.

With the defenders I really dunno what to do. In terms of fixtures, sticking with Ward/Bos this week wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but since I'll probably be getting a Utd defender at some point soon, if I don't do it this week I'm paying more and missing out on a good chance of a clean sheet this week. My brain hurts.

          'My brain hurts'.
Never a truer word spoken (typed), my friend!

Paralysed by fear, riven with indecision, I made one transfer this week.
          Bardsley to Naylor.
          That was it.
Anything else was, frankly, beyond me.

Never asked for an RMT, but unsure what to go for this weekend! Defence looks ok:

    Given

    Johnson / Assou-Ekotto / Simpson / Enrique

    Walters / VDV / Silva

    RVP / Rooney / Best

So my dilemma surrounds the Rooney / Silva axis. Do I go

    1. Silva > Mata (for Chelsea coverage)
    2. Silva > Adam (Differential, leaves no city cover though!)
    3. Rooney > Aguero & Silva > Mata (Solves the city conundrum)

I'm likely to wildcard the international break coming up, so any changes aren't definitely season long.

Currently in the top 1000 so opinions welcomed.

IMO that team doesn't need wildcarding, particularly if you're in the top 1000. Save it for when you're in a bad way; at least that's the advice that many gave me on here the other day. So with that in mind I would stick this week and keep two transfers for the international break. At that point I'd be looking to ship Best out. Or do you already have 2 transfers?

I only have 1 free this week unfortunately, I'm not adverse to taking a hit to sure up the team however, have done previously already.

Best has been a good budget points scorer so far.

Tempted by Rooney > Aguero to be honest, have a nagging feeling Rooney will get something against the black cats though.

In that case, I'd personally sit tight, save 2 FTs for the international break and not WC. If you must WC and use a one-week only transfer, Rooney to Aguero or Suarez are both good options. Another one worth consideration if you can afford it is Walters -> Ramsey. Walters will probably be knackered from his Europa League exploits and I fancy Ramsey to pop up with a goal or assist.

Re. Best, I've just seen his 2 assists and 2 BAPs vs. Stoke which is pretty impressive so fair enough. I'd be worried about his fixtures and rotation risk with HBA lurking in the shadows.

    Krul
    Jones, Enrique, Woodgate
    VDV, Silva, Ramsey, Brunt
    RVP(c), Rooney(v), Adebayor

    Subs: Vorm, Boyat, Brown, Dyer

Looking allright? Getting Brown and Dyer in if Silva and Woody doesn't start is not making me very cheerfull. VDV over Rooney for vc?

If you're looking for 2 points week in week out then you won't find a better player than Moses. He is boss.

Maybe he will do a Sessignon.

moses is a ideal 5th mid though

    Gents,
Just moved up to second in my league with value and points.

    Here is the squad:

    Vorm (Given)

Simpson R.Taylor Enrique (De Laet, Gabbidon)
    VDV, Nani, Gutierrez, Moses (Faurlin)
    Aguero, Adebayor, RVP

1.2 in the bank and 1 FT.

I am feeling a value drop in Nani and Adebayor, but I also have a lot of "dead weight" I need to address.

Thoughts on a strategy this week? Longterm?

(The guy leading our league suggested I burn 20 points this week for the following:
    Vorm (Given)
Mertesacker R.Taylor Enrique (De Laet, Gabbidon)
VDV, Milner, A. Johnson, Ramsey, Sesegnon
    Aguero, Ba, RVP

But I am not buying it.)

Quick question, start J Evans or Walker.

United home to Sun but he might not start.
Can spurs keep a clean sheet?

I suppose if I go with Evans and he doesn't start he probably wont come on later will he.

Can see Drenthe being a massive fail .His career goalscoring /assist record is most unimpressive,

ive been impressed with him thus far, apart from his temperament, strong player, belter of a foot on him.
but yeh hes only just back, so ill wait, everton have some favorable fixtures in which to prove himself, its too early to say flop or not yet

What do we think to Phil Jones as a United option long term? Looks like he could get a goal soon or at least some assists.

The team in the scout picks looks like it could 100 points easily,is it even affordable??!!
kompany is suspended for this week and larsson, tiote and silva all doubtful for me
is it worth it taking out komp and putting in richards?obviously looking long term also with his attacking potential

The starting XI is about 90mil and the entire team 108mil.
That's without a sub goalkeeper aswell.
