The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Robin Red Faced

“He is an exceptional player and when you feed him in the box, he’s deadly.”

You see, we kind of knew all that. We realised that, against Blackburn, particularly a Blackburn reduced to ten men after half an hour, Van Persie had the tools to destroy them and deliver massive returns. The problem Mr Wenger, is that on Friday afternoon you uttered this…

“I will rotate a little bit because many players have given a lot…[With Van Persie] the temptation is there.”

That was news to us Fantasy managers. That put the frighteners on and, despite our attempt this morning to deconstruct that statement and put up arguments against the idea of resting Van Persie, some took action. Indeed, two of the top four ranked Fantasy Premier League managers opted to give the armband to Sergio Aguero – perhaps oblivious to Wenger’s threats, but more likely as a result of them.

The very idea of us, a site dedicated to passing information to Fantasy Football managers, ignoring the quotes from Wenger was never a viable option. We turned a blind eye to Friday’s Sun report, but when Wenger speaks, we had to report it. So, to counter that, in this morning’s Preamble, we stressed the need to keep faith with Van Persie and hope that Wenger resisted the gamble. Hopefully, that helped some in their decision to sit tight.

Is there a lesson to be learned? Certainly the fact that Van Persie remained on the pitch to provide an assist to Thierry Henry with the score at 6-1, indicates that the idea of resting Van Persie didn’t cross Wenger’s mind once the goals started flowing. Had Van Persie been tiring, had he been desperate for a break – why was he left on the pitch when the match was dead and buried?

Only Wenger has the answers, and it seems we’ll never quite work out his thinking when it comes to Van Persie. With the Champions League programme looming, we can surely expect more uncertainly, perhaps some smokescreens.

However, today surely confirmed that we can ill afford to take risks with Van Persie and the armband. There is no better Fantasy damage dealer and if there’s a chance that he will be on the pitch, particularly against abject opposition, we have to back him. That policy may cost us – there may well be occasions when Van Persie will be left fidgeting on the bench whilst sporting our armbands. The question is, will those who suffer that fate feel any worse that those who missed out on today’s incredible haul? Right now, in this Knee Jerk, it seems unlikely.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I played McClean and Sessegnon last week, just didn't want have enough room for 2 Sunderland players and a Stoke player for this GW.. The game looked like a close one on paper, so wanted one from each team who would be likely to score. Hence McClean benched :/

I'm regretting putting Enrique on the bench instead of Dempsey, have a gut feeling Pool will keep a shock clean sheet against spurs. Not that it would be that shocking considering they concede very little at home. The fact Spurs have scored in their last 20+ games put me off. Disappointed Silva didn't get anything from a walkover today too! What a dour game

I have no sympathy with the Huth bandwagoners, Stoke are a woeful team and only have a reputation for shut outs because they're so poor at doing anything but aggressively grinding out results. Crouch makes them even more unattractive. I'm glad we beat them today even if I think we got a bit lucky with the snow, it slowed the game down and ruined any momentum the home side might have.

Yeah, but you described Huth as a bandwagon, which he was not. People got him in with a view to potential CS with 3 nice home games coming up. Plus his stats indicate that he gets into attacking positions and shoots way more than most other defenders.
Now all that potential could be screwed because of a potential 3 game ban.
Definitely worthy of sympathy, regardless of your opinions on Stoke.

Hardly a bandwago , was one of last seasons best defenders and with good recent form (goal in fa cup) and good fixtures he was a genuine good purchase

Temperatures are set to rise tomorrow with snow to start melting away early on, and both st james and stamford bridge should make swift work of clearing the pitches with under soil heating

no indication from either club that the games are in any doubt

It's not the pitches that are the problem, it's the surrounding areas and perhaps most importantly the travel links. If these are shut down like they have been (largely) tonight then the game will be off imo. All guess work obviously but the possibility is certainly there

in all honesty, go for sig. I wouldn't consider moses solely on the fact he plays for one of the worst sides in the epl. On top of that, he is selfish. Sigg has potential so id go for him.

But definately pull the trigger before price rise tnite.

Snow tonight in London has been heavy for a few hours and is lying. Tubes were off after about 10PM on certain lines.

Unless it get markedly better by tomorrow morning the Chelsea game could be in danger of being off

why don't you go to Google, type in 'Weather in London' and see if you still think he's lying? I'm 3 miles from the ground, and there's at least 3 inches of snow outside right now. I have tickets for the game tomorrow and players from both sides in my team if that helps my credibility?

I always laugh when London gets snow and grinds to a halt with 'heavy' falls of 2cm.

Honestly, i bet all of Scandanavia, Canada, Russia and a fair bit of Eastern Europe must laugh their tits off when they watch the news and see how our country copes with a bit of inclement wintry weather.

That is because these countries invest massively in anti-winter infrastructure because they have proper cold and snow for three/four solid months out of the year

Their airports, motorways and households are permanently set up for severe weather. If we were to fund that kind of ability tax would go through the roof. Its just not worth it for the five or six days that we typically have to endure

To be fair, there isnt exactly the same amount to keep going in Newcastle - the Metro and the East Coast line from London to Scotland? Plus there is about twenty times less people to be transported about

The fact is, there are tens of thousands of miles of rail tracks in and out of London. Without specialist line clearing vehicles these cannot be kept clear. There are probably hundreds of thousands of cars - without sufficient grit and every driver having a set of snow chains, you can't keep these moving either

These are all things that Scandenavian and Russian countries have because its a regular occurence. Its just not possible down here. And its not just because we're a bunch of lazy southern softies - and I'm a Scotsman originally

WC played this GW. Made a mistake of keeping that lummox Walters in my team and benching McClean. I had planned on keeping Walters until GW28, but with stoke being so tire I got almost no choice but to get rid. My SP on him is 6.3 and only have 0.4 in bank so cant do much in terms of upgrade.

    Options are, team linked:

1 - Save FT and play McClean vs Arsenal
    2 - Get Taarabt/Barton/SWP
3 - punt on Ox (some tough games coming)

yeah RVP saved me went downhill during the 3pm games until aguero scored pen later. it is just gutting leaving 11 pts on bench. I have left many clean sheets and a 10pt haul from Dyer on bench this season, frustrating but ho hum

For all the terrible decisions I've made (Walters over Sess the last 3 weeks hurts possibly the most) I'm happy to say that my 3-week punt on John O'Shea worked out brilliantly with 3/3 clean sheets :-). If he was a 5m striker and had scored 6,6,5 there'd be a massive O'Sheawagon right now!

    Vorm | Sorenson
    Richards | Evans | Huth | Simpson | Caulker
    Silva | Tony V | Sess | Walters | Barfa
    RVP | Aguero | Fletcher

    Bank:£3.2m FT: 2

I'm considering doing Huth + Walters ➡ Bardsley + Dempsey.
Leaving me money to get do Fletcher ➡ Ba next week.

As I posted earlier..new to the FPL this year..it seems you only have to guess clean sheets and goal scorers and then rely on the lucky bonus points to do well..I dont see the skill compared to the Metro opta game which uses all variables...am I wrong cos you might as well pick the bookies favourites each week to do well in the FPL???

and the bookies favourites always win??

if they did wouldn't we all be rich?

First of all you have to know the game, second of all you have to know the fixtures and thirdly you have to follow player form.

If it is so easy then I expect you will win it next year.
