Scout Scribbles- Tevez Says Sorry

Carlos Tevez publicly apologises and withdraws his appeal against City. John Terry is set to undergo investigative surgery. Ryan Taylor returns to training, Gabby Agbonlahor is available for selection and Martin O’Neill is looking to get more from Stephane Sessegnon in a central role:

Carlos Tevez has finally issued a public apology to Man City after his recent misdemeanours. The Argentine has also withdrawn an appeal over the club’s decision to severely fine him- this was due to be heard by the Premier League this week but Tevez’s actions may help draw a line under the whole sorry saga. The ball is now in Roberto Mancini’s court- the City boss has his apology and, with Tevez undergoing a training program to bring him up to full fitness, it seems he may, after all, play come part for the league leaders over the remainder of the season. This further complicates matters up front for Fantasy managers and, considering Tevez is omitted from the club’s Europa League squad, his chances of playing in the league could well be boosted, raising question marks against the guaranteed game time previously enjoyed by Sergio Aguero, in particular.

Chelsea confirmed last night that John Terry is set to undergo surgery to ascertain the extent of the damage to his injured knee. The Blues skipper had trained prior to last night’s 3-1 defeat in Napoli but was in no state to play- Gary Cahill continued alongside David Luiz in Terry’s absence and, with a possible two-month absence on the cards for the latter, Cahill’s game time could be set for an increase. The official club statement went on to say:

John has tried hard to be ready for tonight’s game but it was clear after training last night that it was not going to be possible. He will undergo an exploratory arthroscopy in the next day or so, after which the club’s medical team will be better placed to advise on a prognosis.

Andre Villas-Boas went with a 4-2-3-1 formation for the trip to Napoli. This allowed Juan Mata to play centrally, tucking in behind Didier Drogba, with Florent Malouda taking up the left wing berth. Mata grabbed the opener, firing home just before the half-hour mark, and with Bolton, West Brom and Stoke up next for the Blues, could well be ready to pick up the Fantasy points if his manager continues to field him in a central berth. An upturn in Fantasy fortunes won’t be difficult, though; Mata has returned just a goal and assist in his last seven league games.

Fantasy owners of Ryan Taylor will be relieved to hear he returned to full training for Newcastle yesterday, having recovered from his recent leg injury . The club’s official website confirmed both Taylor and Cheik Tiote turned out and, with Yohan Cabaye also back from suspension, the Magpies midfield is looking close to full-strength ahead of the weekend match with Wolves.

Gabby Agbonlahor is fit and available for selection ahead of Villa’s trip to Wigan this Saturday. The forward has missed the last three league games due to back and hamstring problems but has undertaken a new fitness regime and is “flying” in training, according to Alex McLeish.

The Villa boss received some mixed news after yesterday’s reserves match with West Brom. Chris Herd returned to action for the first time in a couple of months, managing an hour in the 4-1 win. Herd had begun to establish himself in the first XI alongside, starting six gameweeks (10-15) in a row before succumbing to an ankle ligament injury. Eric Lichaj continued his comeback from hip surgery by playing the entire match, while Barry Bannan revealed via twitter he had picked up an ankle injury in the game.

McLeish also revealed Ciaran Clark is hoping to return in a month’s time from his recent knee problem but there are fears that Fabian Delph could be sidelined for the rest of the season. The midfielder picked up an ankle injury during his one-month loan spell at Leeds and his manager admitted he’s unsure if he will return before the end of the current campaign.

Martin O’Neill confirmed he intends to utilise Stephane Sessegnon through the middle as much as possible for Sunderland. The Benin international had occasionally been used as a wide man by Steve Bruce but with Seb Larsson and James McClean in such sparking form on the wings for the Black Cats, Sessegnon has been afforded a license to spark his side into life in the opponents’ final third. O’Neill admitted just how crucial a player Sessegnon is for the Wearsiders, saying:

He has individual quality and all the best teams have individuals who can turn games. It is nice to have one in our team. He can hold it up, bring people into play and he can turn and twist and get at players. He has been so important to us. He can go out wide right but playing up the middle and as close to the opposition goal as possible is best. But sometimes he has got to drop in for us.

Paul Scharner is a doubt for West Brom this weekend. The midfielder was forced off in the 5-1 win at Wolves after suffering a blow to the ribs and has yet to train after sustaining the injury. Shane Long has returned to full training for the Baggies, after finally overcoming a recent chest problem and, while Chris Brunt is in line for a return to training at the end of the week, Roy Hodgson refuses to put a timescale on his first-team comeback.

Teams seem to wear black armbands all the time these days, it's like they're playing it safe just in case someone has died somewhere and they haven't noticed.

I think if selected Tevez should be made to dress up as a 1930s golfer on the pitch, complete with giant cap and tweed plus fours, to mark his exploits on the courses of Argentina over the last few months. That'd learn him.

    Hi,

I would appreciate any suggestions for transfers for my squad.

I have 2 FTs and 1.2m in the bank. I am thinking of binning Dzeko and possibly Enrique

    Vorm, Ming
    Simpson, Enrique, Taiwo, Richards, Evans
    Silva, Sess, Bale, Dempsey, Dyer
    Dzeko, RVP, Ba

    Thanks

Guys, this is my team for the coming GW.

    Krul

    Kompany BAE Evans

    Sess Silva Bale Dempsey

    RVP Aguero (C) Ba (VC)

    Mignolet Caulker Kelly Valencia

Would you go Valencia > Siggy for a 4 point hit?

    Any suggestions?

In response to Jinswick from the previous post - back 4 is nailed on so if Raylor plays it will be OOP in midfield. There's one place up for grabs alongside Jonas, Tiote and Cabaye and he's probably favourite to take it but the other main options are Ben Arfa, Obertan and Guthrie.

I'd rate him about 85% to start but I suppose it depends how well he does in training.

So FPL geekos & machos. With the last 2-week break of the season almost drawing to a close, I know all you have brainstormed your exit strategies for the remainder of 13 weeks, if your current FFS template team doesn't perform upto the mark.

What are they? Care to list them? Would love to hear em all. 😀

Let me start with my thought process - I'm looking to go with:
Defence - 1 big differential def (GJ/Skrtel or Evra or Baines) surrounded by uber-cheaps at the back
Mids- Remain mediocre in midpark with Nani over Silva & possibly VDV over Bale (if he can continue to be fit)
Fwds - Invest big in the front (even if it means Ade/Drog over Ba along with RVP and Rooney).

I prefer not to look too far ahead - only results in bitter disappointment when my best laid plans come crashing down around me! Looking to play short term transfers for the next few weeks and then assess matters at around GW29 when I'll probably wildcard and ruin everything! 😉

Def - doubling up on Liv pool def depending on double + Pienaar if fit
Mids - selling Sess(tick) and Dempsey sooner rather than later. Scaling down in the process to afford Rooney & the more exp defence.
      Fwd - Standard.

I rushed to FPL to see if Pienaar was classified a defender. But then, got your point.

Very nice, especially your ideas on getting rid of Sess/Demp at the "right" time. Would you not be disappointed if say Sess actually continues his remarkable form & consistency? Or are you going to wait to see a dip in form over say 2 weeks before removing them?

          I've already sold Sess. 😉

Everyone's team has turned out generic with all these WCards that has been dished out this year. Time to have some fun as the season is coming to and end and odds are I can write a top 1k finish, qualification from the Reserves and my mini league title on my Ass. Last season all over again. 😥

I was lucky to own Sess for most of his good run after selling him earlier this season after 5 or so weeks of 2 pointers. I'm bargaining on him having a lean spell from here on in. If he keeps on scoring than so be it. Can't win them all.(my mini league leader is ranked 14866th and has never owned Rvp this season!)

My planning pd off with Demps as I bought him in the week prior to his monster haul vs New. My mini league rival also don't own him(he has val/Walcott) so I'm reluctant to sell him yet. Might keep for the NOR(h) game depending on the re scheduling of the missing fix. I won't own him post gw 30 for sure.

Yeah, sold Sessmeister. It's all about timing. I hung on to long with VDV after his excellent run...refusing to get Bale in...he cleans up I get him in the next week...he gets injured...luckily I kept calm and held on.

              Missed Young's 23pt haul...got him in...gets injured....waited and waited with Nani...missed a 18pt haul...get him in next the week...injured...

This game looks so easy if you look at the top ranked players(you included). But it's NOT.

WILDCARD!!!! For me everything stops there. I am just looking at a 2-3 week period, after which I will do the long term thinking which is likely to be pretty straightforward.

      As for some advice,

Firstly don't over think it, go with the flow else you will miss out on the form players. Form>Class in fpl. Something that really hurt me in my initial seasons.

Defence- I am in no position to advice with the state of affairs in my team but I always prefer a cheap but regular starter from the top teams. Players like evra/a.cole produce too few assists for my liking. Baines is cool but only if you have the cash, else he can be avoided.

Mids- As interesting as a differential is , not going for a season-keeper is a poor idea. VDV over Bale is a bad idea as of now and my view will only change if vdv exhibits some of his last season form. Especially as hamstring injuries are a part and parcel of his game.

Nani over silva makes sense, but only if nani can just show a resemblance of his earlier form.

Fwds- Unless you are really keen on a differential I had avoid Drogba. I am not too fond of expensive differentials. But Ade could still be a good bet.

Very valid pointers there, Prats. Thank you!

I've always envisioned VDV as a crunch-time player. As you say, the numero uno criteria would be to wait on his fitness. But I can see him putting on his firing boots once again as it nears the end of the season. He's gone a bit off the radar cos Tottenham have been flying in the last 10 weeks or so. But remember who was the lad who lifted them to give more hopes early in the season? VDV. From here onwards, the going will only get tougher for the Spurs with the next 4-5 games and Harry will need his best man once again.

        Vaaaaaaaaan deVaaaaaaaaaart.

        That is all 😉

Hey I love vdv (There, I said it, people). He was a gold mine for me last season. But this season I kept him through one phase of his injury and it turned out to be very costly for me. Bale ending up scoring 40+pts while vdv remained injured with a minor hamstring. Doubts of his fitness emerged from the first weekend, but he only ended up playing after 3-4 games. This season bale has been so good, there has been no reason to switch to vdv. Let vdv atleast score/assist once more before you bring him in, irrespective of what your instinct says. Trust my instinct for a change ( cough * McClean * cough)

Very difficult to look beyond the two fixtures of the week. What makes you think that this week could be the remarkable turnaround in Fulham's away form?

With Dempsey you're expecting an inflow of 2-8 points, but with Kun/Ba (and possibly RVP) you could expect 2-16 points. As the wise men would say, the upside is higher with Kun/Ba.

Defence - Thinking of bringing in GJ for Riise, keeping Kompany and the rest being around 4.5m or below.

Midfield - Sticking with my current 2 rotating cheapies (though the players may change) and 3 from the set of generic Midfielder pile.

Forwards - Will be looking at Forwards from the teams that are gonna be competing for something until the final day, eg. for the title. May lose RVP if Arsenal continue their form, or I may come to my senses when that time comes.

"Will be looking at Forwards from the teams that are gonna be competing for something until the final day, eg. for the title."

That's a very valid point there, Jukesy. But why would you restrict that philosophy only to fwds and not mids as well? Any reasoning?

It depends what the midfield options are really. It's possible I may look at losing Bale if Tottenham have 3rd place, but aren't challenging for the title, as there may be a lot of rotation and I don't particularly rate the spurs youth.

+1 on the players with something to play for. Always some heroics from a relegation threatened team in the last few weeks resulting in some potentially great bargains. Now if only I could spot them before it's too late...

Don't usually do the whole planning in advance thing, but this 2 week break has driven me to it. I know this probably won't work out by then but they're just early ideas. Playing it a little safe to allow for price rises. How does this look:

    GW26: Valencia & Brown > McClean & Caulker
    GW28: Ba & Sorensen > Rooney & Bogdan
    GW30: Dempsey > Valencia
    GW31: Vorm > Friedel

    Vorm, Sorensen
    Richards, Evans, Simpson, Kelly, Brown
    Silva, Bale, Valencia, Dempsey, Moses
    RVP, Aguero, Ba

2 FT. 0.7 in the bank

Seriously, how did you manage to raise the cash. You needed to raise about 5 mil. Valencia->McClean would have given you 3mil. What about the rest? Are my figures pretty wrong.

Btw even if you could afford it, aguero->rooney sounds better especially in light of this article. If tevez starts playing, expect aguero's game time to be diminished further.

3.3 from selling Valencia, 0.4 from Brown, 0.5 from Sorensen, 0.7 from Dempsey back to Valencia.
Ha I've just done it and I'm 0.2 short now with Rooney's rise and Valencia's current buy-back price.
I'd need Ba & Dempsey's rises to match the Rooney rises and Valencia fall. Might have to go with losing Aguero anyway then. Just not too sold on what I'd do with the extra cash. Ba & Agger (1.6 left over) vs Aguero & Caulker.

Ha first comment hits the nail on the head. Yeah that's my only dilemma really. I just figured that I can still have a strong mid with the usual 3 and then rotate Moses and McClean.
Ba's fixtures aren't much more appealing than Aguero's in a few weeks, but Aguero obviously plays for City. Could be Tevez to consider by then too. Torn.

Yes, but there are at least 5 reasons why Ba is more beneficial to keep than Aguero, don't be misleaded by the fact that Aguero play for City.

Cheers. Yeah it's a fair point. Got a couple weeks to monitor how well Ba plays and if Tevez is gonna mean any rotation. Not sure what I'd do with the spare cash, but I suppose I could always get a Liverpool defender and maybe get Mata or double-up on Spurs mids.

Is it madness to go RVP > ROONPIG?

RvP has got TOT, Liv, NEW, no game gw29.

Rooney has got Nor, Tot, WBA, Wol.

Other 2 strikers are Aguero and Ba and they really have the fixtures go in their way.

Yeah? He is the stand out player for this week imo, although maybe because i don't have him i feel that way! Tempted to get him in for Valencia and then swap Richards for Evans/Cahill. It's a tough one because i think we'll score against City (which would be terrible news for my fantasy team) this weekend but then i also think they will probably keep a clean sheet in GWs 27 & 28

The thing is you would want 1 attacker each at least from the two Manchester clubs and with ManU losing Val and Nani only back from inj it leaves you with Rooney...with Citeh the possible rotation is upfront...so i would be worried that you have the fdw/striker combo the wrong way around.

I guess, the others have convinced me. Even though my instinct says r.taylor, logically Cahill seems correct.
            Infact if R.Taylor-Cahill

*Infact if (R.Taylor-Cahill) is less than 4 pts, I face a straightforward loss.

But come Saturday, if there are even the slightest doubts that cahill might be benched, I will transfer him out of the team.

Pratik, Fuz & I were trying to predict where you'd do this move this GW.

Honestly, I'd only do Clark > Evans. Cahill out for a hit is insane.

      Raylor = 2
      Cahill = 2

Stoke vs. Swansea. My squad is overloaded with players from these teams.
Who to play out of this lot?

    Vorm, Graham (SWA)
    Sorensen, Walters (STK)

Stoke have home advantage. But the Britannia is no longer a fortress. And Stoke are playing in Europe on Thursday.
Walters is on penalties. But he's also playing back in midfield.
Swansea are good at home. Not great on their travels. If they do score, Graham might get the finish.

        I'll go Sorensen in goal.
Then either of Walters or Graham.
Or maybe both, hedging my bets.

Interesting news. But Stoke are always poor after a Europa league tie.
They will be knackered after chasing Valencia around the pitch.

Afternoon lads. I'm afraid i'm going to have to go against my promise to myself not to take any more hit for the rest of the season. But its for a good cause. Im gonna do Dzeko > Aguero & Valencia > Siggy for a 4 pointer then Silva > Sess in 27 then finally Aggy > Piggy in 28. I've been mulling over just doing Valencia > Sess all week but had a bit of a urika moment whilst looking at the captains pole and realised I could get Aguero for a 4 pointer. I feel warm inside knowing im joining all the cool kids captaining Aggy for the next two weeks then switching to Rooney. Now watch this well laid plan fall flat on its smug face. Guaranteed.

Surely you'd want to keep Silva vs Bolton GW27? You could save that transfer and do it GW28.

        Team is

        Vorm/Mig
        Taiwo/Kompany/Santon/Cahill/Senderos
        Dempsey/Bale/Silva/Siggy/Valencia
        RVP/ba/Dzeko

1FT. I want to do Valencia > Mcclean i think. that would leave me 6.0 in the bank!
could do Dzeko> Rooney for a 4 point hit or wait till next week

        thoughts and/or ideas? thanks

Looking at your points and how far ahead in your leagues you are, I'd say take a chance on the hit, I would.

But go for Rooney, not Aguero, I've a feeling Rooney could do well this week!
