Scout Scribbles- Ba Happy with Wide Role

Demba Ba maintains he has no problems playing on the left for Newcastle. Gary Cahill joins David Luiz as an injury worry for Chelsea. The injuries rack up for Blackburn, Everton are sweating over Leighton Baines’ fitness, while Royston Drenthe’s disciplinary problems raise their head once more:

Demba Ba has spoken out on his new role at Newcastle following the arrival of Papiss Cisse and the recent emergence of Hatem Ben Arfa. Ba has been stationed on the left-flank in recent matches and, resultantly, has scored just a single goal since January. Ba, for now at least, seems content with the situation…

As a striker you like to be in the striking position but now the coach has made a decision. He has decided for Papiss to be there. I do what I have to do to balance the formation for the good of the team. If I can be in the finishing area I do everything to be there, if I cannot, we do the work for Papiss….I like to be up front but lately the coach has decided to play with three strikers (Hatem Ben Arfa is the other) and I do not mind playing on the side….If I score, that’s great, but if I don’t score there is someone else who does.

Ba’s decline in Fantasy terms have been stark. He’s failed to return a goal or an assist in nine matches, whilst Cisse has flourished into a prolific scorer and top Fantasy target. Ba’s FPL price has dropped through the floor having peaked at 8.0 in Gameweek 26 – he is now available for just 7.1 with few considering him an option following Cisse’s stunning run that has brought him eight goals in his last five league outings with maximum FPL bonus in every one of those matches.

Royston Drenthe’s days as a maverick Fantasy pick look over. Everton have revealed that the Dutch winger was omitted from their semi-final squad for the clash with Liverpool due to a “disciplinary matter”. Reports claim that Drenthe failed to turn up for a training session on Friday, with the suggestion that his future at Goodison may now be over. The Dutchman has struggled to win the trust of his manager David Moyes, despite producing some effective displays which have brought him three goals and six assists in the Premier League. His direct attacking play had, for short periods, seen him flash on the Fantasy radar but given these latest developments, he looks unlikely to be seen in Everton colours in the remaining four matches.

Everton have more pressing concerns involving the fitness of Leighton Baines, after the left-back was forced off late on in the semi-final defeat suffering from a hamstring problem. The club have revealed that Baines will now undergo a scan ahead of next weekend’s trip to Old Trafford. Baines himself brought us this hopeful prognosis…

We’ll do a scan in the next couple of days…I don’t think it’s going to be too bad. We’ll just have to wait and see.

While Fantasy managers won’t be overly concerned on Baines’ fitness ahead of the United clash, he is, nonetheless, a prime target for transfers for the Toffees double Gameweek fixtures with Fulham and Stoke.

Gary Cahill is another defender firmly on the radar for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36. He will face two home encounters with QPR and Newcastle and, with David Luiz picking up a hamstring injury in Sunday’s semi-final, would seem set up to play both games, given the rib problems still endured by skipper John Terry. Our enthusiasm for Cahill should be tempered somewhat, however, with news that the former Bolton man left Wembley with an injury of his own. Reports are vague but suggest that Cahill has a foot problem which adds him to the list of doubts for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Barcelona.

Steve Kean’s troubles are mounting on and off the pitch once again. Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Swansea left them floundering in the bottom three and counting the casualties. Grant Hanley, Yakubu and Junior Hoilett all picked up problems. It’s feared that ankle ligament damage may have ended Hanley’s season, with Steve Kean giving us a gloomy prognosis post-match…

Grant Hanley has quite a bad ankle injury, Yakubu is feeling his patella tendon on his knee so he had to come off and also Junior Hoilett has come off with a hamstring injury. Grant Hanley could miss the rest of the season, and we hope that we’ve caught Yakubu and Hoilett in time, but Grant is a huge doubt.

Hanley’s potential absence is compounded by off-pitch wranglings with Gael Givet. Reports suggest that he was fit and able to take part at Swansea but was left out of the Rovers squad by Kean who revealed outside factors were at play…

I spoke to Gael this morning and after having a chat with him it was very apparent to me that he was nowhere near in the right mindset to be involved in this game…I don’t want to go into the reasons why, we’ll keep that private, but there was no way he could have been on the pitch today.

Rovers are now three points from safety and face crucial home encounters with Norwich and Wigan, with testing trips to Spurs and Chelsea also ahead of them. Next weekend’s meet with the Canaries is surely pivotal – fail to find three points in that one and Kean’s sideseem doomed.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Well, if one had done Rooney->Tevez BEFORE this gameweek, it would have been a good move.

Its not just about how many points Rooney gets, its about how many Tevez gets.

I can easily see Rooney scoring against Everton, I just happen to think that Tevez(C) as a differential in my mini league has the potential to take me to the top!!

Tricky week coming in GW35. Who to bench!?!?

    Bogdan (Swa and Villa)
Kompany (Wolves) Evans (Everton) Verm (Chelsea) Simpson (Stoke) BAE (QPR)
McClean (Villa) Dempsey (Wigan) Valencia (Everton) Yaya (Wolves) Siggy (Bolton)
Cisse (Stoke) RVP (Chelsea) Rooney (Everton)

Impossible to decide on a bench for that lot. The only thing I know for sure is that Mignolet will be bench-warming.

so i have decided to completely ignore the gw35 dgw (villa/bolton) due to rotation, form etc.

    Bogdan – Mig
    JEvans – Simpson – Baines – Wheater – Kelly
    Valencia – Sess – Demps – Walcott – Siggy
    RVP – Roon – Cisse

Which is best for GW 36 ?:

    A – Demps to Mata
    B – Walcott to Mata

Whoever it is I plan to get them back for gw 37. Thinking B at the mo to get the Dempos and Mata DGW’s. Thoughts?

Some people seem to think it means an 8 point hit if you are transferring him out again, but mathematically it is just one extra transfer if you were shipping out Rooney anyway. Tevez could make up those 4 points in the first 5 mins at Wolves.

why its wrong to transfer in Tevez (or indeed Aguerro) for Roo/RVP
i am aware that comments below are justifications for my own resistance
    1. Its a knee jerk - don't chase last week's points - don't attend the funeral if you did not even get an invite to the wedding.
    2. Rooney does not perform well vs Everton. Well, Aguerro does not score away - neither does Dempsey - RVP does not perform well in early sat kick offs, walcott is so inconsistent. All "truths" that have been taken as gospel recently
    3. Can we trust Mancini - i mean we should trust him - he cant pull a stunt again - can he? prob not - but....Aguerro off at half time to protect him for ManU, Tevez off on 57 mins for Adam Johnson.
    4. It means you are pretty much committing 1 of your GW36 to being Manchester derby. A game that will have yellows (and reds) aplenty one fears.
    5. Next Man C games are not that clever either. And you sense if City lose to Man U - Mancini will tell Tevez to go back to the golf course
    And that's enough from me.
And yes i know - another 6-1 vs Wolves and i will have been made to look a fool but thats the fun isnt it!

      1. The after party at a wedding often has its own rewards.

      2. One truth that is incontestable is that Rooney was poor yesterday.

      3. He could get a lot done in 57 mins against Wolves.

      4. That is not the case if you were shipping Rooney for a DGWer anyway. It is one extra transfer: 4 points.

      5. True on 37. 38 doesn't look too shabby if title still on the table. And if its over, I reckon you're right; golf for Carlos. 🙂

I would go for Aguero over Tevez as I think he will play more minutes. I will however be keeping Roo and RVP this GW.

Wolves is a game that will see rotation just before the derby so you will need a load of goals to benefit (which I would not rule out given Wolves' form).

Current team for GW35 folks, with 1.5m in the bank and 2 FTs. In the top 2500 overall & ahead in nearly all

my ML, but with a couple chasing close behind & one with Aguero now.

    Krul (Vorm)
    Kompany, Evans, Assou-Ekotto (Kilgallon, Caulker)
    Dempsey, Bale, Valencia, Walcott (Buzsaky)
    Rooney, Cisse(C), RVP

    Plan for GW35 was Buz > Davies/Petrov & then GW36 Wal > Mata & Roo > Ade/Jel.

Really hard to ignore City forwards now they've a gelled strike partnership who face Wolves in GW35. Now

    thinking Roo > Tevez in GW35 & then Wal > Mata/HBA/Pien & Tev > Ade/Jel for GW 36. No hits

What you reckon, stick to plan A or switch it to B. Or is there a C? 🙂

Tough! similar to myself - Chose to ignore the Tevez/Aguero trade in. Was going to do it last week, didnt, so will stick with Rooney who is just as formidable. For a hit, i'd take cisse over tevez purely as he has an extra game and rivals will probably have him.

Mainly as a differential to a guy chasing me with Aguero. Thinking about it now could prob go Roo > Aguero to even things out. but then he has Roo as well so I'd lose out on that one. Tough time of the year!

Just think Tevez is the reason for this resurgence, and with the games coming up in mind he'll be on a mission against united and has proven over several seasons to be arguably more effective away than at home.
