Bolton XI: Bogdan, Steinsson, Wheater, Ream, Ricketts, Ryo, Reo-Coker, M Davies, Petrov, Eagles, Ngog.

Gabriel Agbonlahor misses out due to injury for Alex McCleish’s side, whilst David Ngog is recalled in place of Kevin Davies for the struggling visitors.

    Quick formations overview…

    Chelsea:
    Repeat of previous match. Three holding midfielders in the middle to stifle the game, pushing Barca wide and hopefully cross where Chelsea’s height can win it. Ramires and Mata stay out wide to threaten counter-attacks and take some pressure off the defence, though they will have to track back a lot too. Drogba as a target man.

    Barca:
    Alves dropped specifically to avoid falling into Ramires’ hands by getting caught too high up the pitch (that’s how Chelsea scored the first goal). Barca respond to Chelsea’s lack of players up front with 3 CBs (instead of 2 CBs, who could be outnumbered on the break). Push an extra man into midfield. Roughly a 3-3-1-3 with Messi playing in the hole and Alexis added as a center-forward to break up the defence. Could work, but am a little bit worried by Barca’s lack of width.

          Yep, Messi is renowned as a 'false 9'. Center-forward, but drops deep to confuse defenders and pull them out of position. Already playing quite deep tonight, he picked the ball up near the centre circle just now.
