Dugout Discussion

Tuesday Dugout Discussion

With the rest of the footballing world tuning in to the occasion at the Nou Camp tonight, the Dugout Discussion opens with it’s eyes firmly fixed on the remaining fixture from double Gameweek 35. It’s not glamorous, it’s Aston Villa versus Bolton Wanderers in a relegation scrap. The team news is in…

Villa XI: Given, Hutton, Cuellar, Baker, Lichaj, Albrighton, Herd, Warnock, N’Zogbia, Heskey, Weimann.

Bolton XI: Bogdan, Steinsson, Wheater, Ream, Ricketts, Ryo, Reo-Coker, M Davies, Petrov, Eagles, Ngog.

Gabriel Agbonlahor misses out due to injury for Alex McCleish’s side, whilst David Ngog is recalled in place of Kevin Davies for the struggling visitors.

The Dugout Discussion is open and can be accessed right here, with Champions League chat still permitted.

      Nah, i dont think he will. RA will lose his mind and go for someone with the big CV, once again.

        Its a difficult decision for me, as I am 32 points ahead of my rival, and he has his wildcard.

        My current thinking is:

        Turner -> Terry
        Walcott -> VDV
        Sessegnon -> Bale/ Ramires

        That would be an 8pt hit, leaving me with 7 DGW players. How does that look?

        I might have to change this if I decide I want both RVP AND Rooney next week.

          I was thinking the exact same transfers myself. Well, somewhat atleast.

          Turner->Terry

          Walcott->VDV

          Sessegnon-> Pienaar.

          Thing is, i cant really afford those transfers on their own, which means i`ll have to either get rid of Tevez/RVP for a cheap striker - most likely Jelavic, which would also cost me another 4 pts for a total of -12. Would leave me with 7 DGW players, whereas my main rivals will have to take as many hits to match, or play with less.

          Thing im wondering is, do i sell RVP or Tevez to afford this plan? Skip JT and just play Vermaelen or Turner?

            We must be on the right lines then 😉 I would probably not bother with terry, and keep RVP and Tevez. They have good fixtures for the last two

              Does Tevez have good ones? QPR at home should be nice, but Newcastle away surely doesnt have to go riot? Not to mention he could just get ejected if/once they lose last hope of winning the league?

                Sorry. I'm thinking from a toon fan perspective. If he doesn't score, great, if he does score, at least I get fantasy points ;). I certainly don't expect him to score more than 0-1 at our place. You could probably get rid of him

                  Thats what im thinking too. Would like to keep him this week, atleast kinda, but then i`d want to get rid of him next week anyway, so i should just get Jellavic in i guess. But who to bring in in MF? VDV i think ive already decided, stuck between Pienaar and maybe Chelsea, but im worried about rotation.

      Indeed! RDM is the man. There isn't much doubt. Mind you, Abramovich is crazy about European football and will rate RDM as one of his best managers after last night. However, there is job to be done...

      Ever contrasted the plight of two assistant managers - Terry Connor & RDM. Destiny has a big say in these things!

        This guy couldnt keep the job at WBA. Im telling you, he`s gone in the summer. Probably for Capello if i were to guess, but atleast someone like that. RDM cant attract the big name players Chelsea want/need, imo.

          There's a very slight possibility you're right. There's just so much right about RDM - I can definitely say he's been the best "man-manager" that Chelsea has seen in the last 10 years.

          Lol Capello. No chance. They'll try and get Mourinho I think. If that doesn't happen I think it'll be someone like Larry White. Could even be Di Matteo if they win the champions league and the media / fan hysteria gets him the job.

            Laugh all you want, i think its a realistic possibilty. He`s claimed one more big job before retiring, he`s settled in England and he`s much more of a club than national manager. Capello brings with him Ibrahimovic, you heard it here first :p
            Who the f*** is Larry White? I dont disagree that its possible that RDM now deserves a chance, but i just dont think Abramovich will settle. Mourinho i cant ever see coming back tbh.

              The England fans hated Capello so it wouldn't be a popular decision with the Chelsea faithful. Bringing Ibrahaimovich would be a deterrent to appointing him in my opinion.

              Larry White = Laurent Blanc

              I would LOVE for it to be Mourinho and watch him spank the two Manc clubs.

                Why did they hate him? He always backed JT and Cashley. You dont think bringing Ibra will sway them, even though it automatically wins them the league?

                I hear ya about Josè, i just dont see him mending fences with the mad russian. I might be wrong though, and i think Josè is looking to get back to the Premiership after this amazing season in La Liga.

      Yes, absolutely. Was Guardiola any more experienced?

      Two issues:
      a) [Nonsense] Roman has Russian designer-label-disease, hence RDM not glamourous enough...
      b) [Real] AVB's instinct to clear out the deadwood was right, hence RDM a backwards step (albeit successful in short term)...

      Tough to be a Chelsea fan...

      I don't know for certain, but I'm sure I remember last time that instead of 3rd place having to go through qualifiers, some other team from a completely different country with the lowest coefficiant had to go through it.

          By the letter of the law it was a sending off, I just don't think the ref would've done it had it been someone like Pique or Puyol or anyone else wearing blue and red pinstripes.

          Not unlike how by the letter of the law, RVP was "correctly" booked and therefore sent off for kicking the ball just after the whistle had blown against Barca last season.

            I think those are two completely different things. The decision vs RVP last year was just completely absurd. I cant for the life of me not see sending Terry off after that. I mean he knees Alexis in the bum. Why on earth would he do that? And how would you react as a ref?

              Well, no. RVP's decision was absurd but by the rulebook it was correct.

              Defenders are always looking to get at their man in matches, should they be sent off every time they step on someone's foot or when they shoulder into the back of whoever theyre marking while waiting for a corner too?

              There really wasn't much in what he did. People just hate Terry and if it'd been a "good" guy like say Vermaelen, people would probably react differently around here.

                Nah, youre wrong. Its a sending off and its totally different from the "small normal" things that goes on elsewhere. The ball is 40 yards away, he knows what hes doing. Vermaelen was an ass this weekend stomping JT`s ribs on that freekick, after the whistle has gone, so clearly hes not a good guy either.

                RVP`s sending off is just ludacris. You cant possibly expect someone to hear the whistle 40 yards out with 95k in the stands.

            The ref didn't see it, all he knows is that he got a message through his ear piece telling him that Terry has just kneed someone. With that information he would have no choice but to send the man off regardless of who it was.

              This is true. It was also the 5th ref`s decision to give the penalty. The ref had no choice, and fwiw i think the sending off is totally 100% correct. Its just _that_ stupid.

          Not at all deserving of a win.

          Both were dubious, especially the penalty call. Reg the red, if Puyol/Masceranho were put in the same tight corner, that Turkish ref would have barely called it a yellow.

            our overall performance did not deserve a win? obviously the article i read on barca's website says we were by far the superior team and were extremely unlucky not to advance

            This is drunken gibberish, Barca clearly should have gone through, even though Chelsea still earned their keep. Youre wrong about the red, it wasnt the ref`s call, and its correct. Please agree:)

              Agree, but Barca didnt deserve to go through. Dani Alves said that in 09 Chelsea had bad luck with refs because refs are not Barcas fault and the reson they didnt win was because they didnt take the game to Barcelona. Well how things change. Barcelona 1 man up and leading the game 2-0, to lose that lead with all of the help that they always get, definitely do not deserve to move forward. Just as Dani Alves made those claims about Chelsea, much can be said in a similar way about Barca - While they dominated the stats, chelsea had some good chances on the counter in the second half and Barca never looked to take their chances - it always seemed like they were trying to walk the ball into the net. Nobody ever took a shot and the urgency of the situation never seemed to set in. They were unlucky a few times, but so was Chelsea to lose Cahill, Terry stupidity, Ivanovic flubbing a free header, Torres punting ball away on 1v1 with Mascherano - everyone needs a bit of luck, but at end of day, Barca should have had 30 shots this game, not 16.

      Richards is a no-no, he probably wont even play, and even if he does they probably wont keep a cleanie anyway. Kelly is said to have a hand injury, which he played the 2nd half of the Chelsea game with, but it kept him out this weekend. So id ditch both if i could.

    2.) Passed on Jelavic as not clear who to take out and will know more for GW37.

        No, i just have the one FT. Thing is, City-United might be a very tight game or it could be a multi-goal rampage. I still dont see him doing a ton away against Newcastle, hell he might even get kicked out from the team if they have no chance of winning the league. And Jelavic has Wolves following the doubles, which is tempting

          You would pay for that with an 8pt hit though. I think the 2nd option is better personally. Verm and Turner are good prospects for that week I'd say, Tevez as well

        Only reason im considering double hit is that im probably gonna lose Tevez and Sess the next week anyway (both with hard away games), and this way i can get some cash to afford other moves in the final 2 games, and i get 2 more double GWers.

    So I have these players in my team and they are all serious doubts

    Ade* (falling out with 'Arry/Hamstring)
    Cahill* (hamstring)
    Richards (hamstring)
    Surman (useless)

    Absolutely gutted that I could be losing 2 DGWers 😡 I specifically went a few players short in GW34 so I could maximize GW36 and the plan is falling apart due to these problems, very annoying.

    I guess the replacements are the usual candidates

    Jellyfish
    Pienaar/Fellaini?
    Jags/Hibbert?
    Terry
    BAE

    Any advice on what I should look to do?

      Funny how Barcelona cant win a major European game without unfair help from the refs. Funny how the week before El Classico they beat Levante on a bs call to keep them in the league. Funny how their dominance while unquestionable is rid with controversy. Chelsea 08/09 - Arsenal last year - La Liga unquestionable amount of calls gone their way over the years. - They will always have major questionmarks hanging over their most prized trophies.

    BAE* Simpson* Evans Vermaelen McAuley
    Dempsey* Valencia Sigurdsson Walcott Surman
    RvP Rooney Cisse*

    Walcott->Bale/VdV
    Valencia->HBA/Cabaye/Pienaar
    maybe Rooney->Jelaric

        Cheers!

        I think Bale, VDV, Jelavic and Cisse will all play both games and all have the potential to score big.

        Bale & VDV have CL places to fight for and have great fixtures, but are out of form.
        Cisse is on fire and is fighting for CL also, but has tougher fixtures.
        Jelavic is on fire with good fixtures, but nothing really to play for.

        Very tricky. Swaying towards VDV!!

      it's definitely a toughie, I'm hovering over Jelly atm, but Bale/VDV or Cisse would be up there IMO

    I've been discouraging people from doing it all week and now I find myself considering it after my ML leader has increased his lead to 31 points...

    ...I'm thinking of taking a hit to break up the Cisse, RVP, Rooney front 3!

    Rooney > Jelly (-4)

    Talk me into/out of it!

    I could always get Rooney back in time for next week...

      FYI the guy I want to catch is 99% likely to use his WC this week so I have no idea who he will choose. He could even end up with Jelly too.

          City, Everton. I sure would, mind you I sold Rooney last week because I thought he would struggle in the same fixtures.

      Dont overlook Torres. This goal will have given him immense confidence. Chelsea home both matches and although game time on 2nd match may be halved, qpr looks promising as he will surely start. There is a good chance that Chelsea can finish top 4 if they win both games this weekend. They will be only 1 pt back of Newcastle and Tottenham ( assuming Newcastle beat wigan and Tottenham win both games). Save Drogba for FA Cup Final so Torres both games looks good. Then their remaining 2 games will be Liverpool away and Blackburn home. Newcastle will have City Home and Everton away. Expect them to drop points. Tottenham will have Villa Away (potentially still fighting to stay up) and Fulham home (potential of dropping pts as well in their current form). Chelsea have all to play for and they are peaking at the right time. They will want to go into the Champs league final with 4th Place already secured, FA CUp title and no pressure. QPR also fighting for relegation, London derby - should be an open game with Chelsea Old timers given a rest. I fully expect Nando to break out that Game and can be a great differential for ML chasers. Nando Captain?

        oh not this again, there have been 3-4 times this season where Torres has scored one goal and then everybody thought he would go on and hit a bit of form and he never does...just wait till next season

          Im speaking strictly for people that need to take a punt. That QPR game looks like it could have some goals, and I think it can be a big haul for him.

          and it was 3 times to be exact and one of those times he got a red so I doubt anyone jumped him in on their teams then.

      True, might not be the case every week. They were using Jelly to pick up after his aerial wins. Pienaar is just more active, however Fellaini does move in the box quite a lot and is actually a decent finisher too. Preferance bro

            Whoa, was honest question... Not a member, just recently found site mid-late season. Haven't joined for a partial season, so don't get privilege of seeing those articles. I'm sure to join for next year.

            Wondered what stats you were referring to because I was curious. So I asked. That's all.

                So that aside and out of the way, any brief summary of what insight they had that would suggest scoring outburst on the way, because watching them, I haven't exactly seen it.

    Which do you fancy to score most from these 3 options? Probably all comes down to what happens in the Manchester derby this week right?

    a) Terry (QPR,NEW, liv, BLA), Yakubu (WIG), Moses (WOL)
    b) Turner (BOL), Caulker (LIV), Skrtel (CHE), Rooney (SWA), Aguero (QPR) + 4 points
