Scout Scribbles- Cahill and Luiz Both Out of Newcastle Game

Roberto Di Matteo rules David Luiz and Gary Cahill out of Chelsea’s home clash with Newcastle tomorrow. Danny Welbeck could be a doubt for United due to an ankle problem, Matt Jarvis expects to overcome a groin problem for Wolves’ home game with Everton, while Newcastle welcome back Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveuax to the first-team squad ahead of their trip to the Bridge:

David Luiz and Gary Cahill have both been ruled out of Chelsea’s game with Newcastle tomorrow evening. Roberto Di Matteo confirmed the defensive duo will be missing from the Magpies clash, though with Branislav Ivanovic available after a three-game suspension, his options at the back have increased from Sunday’s squad against QPR. Ivanovic is likely to partner John Terry in the heart of defence against Alan Pardew’s visitors, with Jose Bosingwa perhaps favourite to get the nod over Paulo Ferreira at right-back. Although reports earlier today suggested Luiz is on course to recover in time for Saturday’s FA Cup Final with Liverpool, the interim Chelsea boss gave no indication of a time scale for a return.

Reports suggest Danny Welbeck could be an injury doubt for United after leaving Old Trafford with a protective boot on his ankle last night. Welbeck was in decent form heading into the City match, with two goals and a pair of assists in his last couple of Gameweeks but dropped out of the starting lineup as a result of United’s change to a 4-5-1. Climbing off the bench with just over half an hour left, he was subject to a heavy challenge by Nigel De Jong, resulting in Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini squaring up on the Etihad touchline – with United needs goals on Sunday, Javier Hernandez could be a decent differential as Swansea roll up to Old Trafford.

Matt Jarvis expects to overcome the groin problem that forced him off at Swansea last weekend. The Wolves winger lasted 71 minutes at the Liberty, returning two goals and the maximum bonus points for his Fantasy owners and continues to be the main performer for the midlands outfit under Terry Connor, having scored five of the side’s 10 goals since the dismissal of Mick McCarthy. With Wolves grabbing four at Swansea last weekend, it seems as if caution has been thrown firmly to the wind and, with their final home game of the season against Everton followed by a trip to Wigan, Jarvis has the potential to continue his recent strong form.

Gabriel Obertan has declared himself fit and available for Newcastle’s trip to Chelsea tomorrow evening. The winger has failed to feature since Gameweek 28 due to an ankle problem but is likely to be on the bench as Newcastle look to bounce back from their 4-0 thrashing at Wigan last weekend. Sylvain Marveaux is likely to join him – the Frenchman has recovered from hip and groin problems which have ruled him out since November.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Ha, Obertan was part of my first team this season - first season, he was a cheap mid to fill out my squad. It took me long enough to drop him though...

Here's hoping for a sting in part II of the DGW, including a three goal tonking of Everton at the Brittania, a double strike for Captain America tonight and a 7 goal thrilla at the bridge with Cissé et al in on the act. 😛

Hodgson's first job is to persuade UEFA to allow Dickson Etuhu's to switch nationality from Nigerian to English.

Then its over to Leicester to scout out Paul Konchesky as a replacement for Ashley Cole.

Looking forward to the brave new era of Woy.

personally i would prefer Zamora over Crouch but there isnt much in it.

Sturridge can not play the lone front man role so if he goes it will be as an auxilliary striker/winger

I'm considering Rosicky, even though he isn't a goalscoring machine, but he's playing really well recently and could get a few assists with RVP upfront. Other than that Ox could be a punt but Benayun and Gervinho are the prefered options right now by AW.

Anyone else thinking that if Welbeck is out, Rooney is not a great option. Yes ok he recent home form is monsterous, but he has played alongside Welbeck. Other than the Bolton game early in the season, Rooney has not performed well when paired with Chica.

Could Chica be a better option this week?

As for his score against Barca, lets remember that the only reason he scored was that he stupidly tried to driblle out of the defence in injury time and his momentum carried him forward. If he had done what everyone though he should have done(which was to boot the ball out of their area), he would have never been in position to score that goal. Drogba on the other hand is a beast, who scored a real goal vs Barca and was a huge presence throughout. Newcastle is a much more important game than FA Cup Final, and they wont be defending like QPR. Completely expect Drogba to Start that one.

Never...the only week this was ever possible was that double gameweek where Rooney went mental and got 62 pts for those that captained him. I got 150 ish. Reckon the top score was close to 200 then.

This week may see a 200 plus score for anyone who captained Jelavic, Pienar, Mata, Torres or VDV...should they play.

I guarantee this week top score breaks 200 easily - if it is currently 144 with 11 to play, then just needs 56 more to get there. 144 is normally a top score for double gameweek and has already happened in 1st half - It will be pretty simple.

Nope and I don't think they will this week due to rotation amongst Chelsea and Liverpool players.
One guy only needs 62 pts has a decent chance with Torres as captain. The guy on 142 is actually on 102 pts after transfers.

I'm just not sold on his point potential. Before Newcastle, the Wigan rebirth had been achieved without very much in the way of fantasy returns for the holy one.

Im not too convinced about the games this week, but 1 punt that I think Everyone is overlooking is Odemwingie as a 1 week punt. Bolton will need to score that game and win. Should be open and although he blanked this week, I Believe he was one of the weeks leading shot takers and didnt get any luck. Bolton will be at home and leave themselves wide open to be scored on.

Ok that makes sense then. I'd probably go for RVP and Moses. Moses h as 2 rally good fixtures where you can see him scoring. Pienaar has 1 good fixture and 1 tough fixture coming up.

I haven't got either at the moment. Yeah you're right abotu form. Wigan are looking lively though and you'd expect Moses to be involved. It's a tough call, there probably wont be much between the 2.

When Steve McClaren signed as a England manager, Sam Allardyce, who was many's favourite to land the job, resigned after an 8 year spell at Bolton. This was arguably mostly down to him having become unsettled during the FA's long-winded and poorly communicated recruitment period.

You should think they had learned from past mistakes ...

How? Surely the speculation is entirely media driven and the only way the FA could have affected the situation would have been to confirm that Hodgson was the target and destabilise WBA?

I don't see anything in your posts which suggests what they should have done instead? Any action (or inaction) on the FA's part would inevitably have affected some manager(s) and club(s) unless they appointed someone out of work (hardly likely). They said no appointment would be made until near the end of the season (presumably once WBA were safe from relegation) and everything else has been media generated.

I know football fans are fundamentally selfish creatures so presumably having the focus on Hodgson and WBA would have been preferable to you but as a neutral I can't say I see how that's any better.

that's an over-generalization you project on to me

simply saying that almost the exact same thing happened last time the FA wanted "an English manager". that's a fact. it was poorly handled. and that's my opinion on the matter. if you are of a different one, so be it.

You may not always behave that way but I'm referring to your responses to me in this post, saying you 'do a fine line' in something doesn't particularly imply that it's something you always do anyway.

From what I recall Allardyce resigned because Newcastle approached him, I don't remember any huge speculation linking him with the England job (some speculation but not a great deal). It's a pretty shaky parallel in my eyes at least and certainly not a fact.

I'm not one for defending the FA most of the time (I think their behaviour is quite often a joke) but I honestly think this was an impossible situation for them.

Anyway, enough of this, the post is moving on!

It depends - there might not be any animosity there at all. It's hard to say when all the media wants to do is fuel the situation. In truth though, I think I'd go Terry/Rio and Cahill anyway - young legs alongside an old head should make for a strong defence.

Rio isnt half the player he was. I would leave him at home so he can concentrate on his tweeting, he should have won the header that kompany scored with. For a CB he doesnt attack the ball well at all

Back 5 is easy for me

        Hart
        Walker Cahill Terry Cole

        Then it gets tricky.

in fairness I think Kompany was Smalling's man, not Rio's

But I agree Rio is not the player he was. IMO he will not start next season as first choice, which I now expect to be Evans and Vidic.
